1. Glamorous Sarees for an Effortless Traditional Look

When it comes to traditional Indian attire, sarees are undeniably classic and never go out of style. Bollywood stars are known to embrace this elegant garment, and this Diwali, you can channel that same elegance with a saree that exudes style and grace.

  • The Silk Saree: Inspired by stars like Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, a silk saree with traditional zari work or a more minimalistic design is perfect for a Diwali pooja. Opt for jewel tones like deep blue, emerald green, or ruby red, and keep the accessories simple—a pair of statement earrings or a delicate maang tikka can complete the look without overpowering it.

  • Sequin and Embellished Sarees: For a more glamorous, Bollywood-inspired evening look, an embellished saree can be a fantastic choice. Think of the sequin sarees worn by actresses like Kareena Kapoor or Shilpa Shetty—these add a dazzling touch to any Diwali party. Go for lighter colors like champagne or pastel hues to keep the look elegant yet festive, and style with loose waves or a soft bun.

2. Pretty Lehengas for a Modern yet Traditional Feel

Lehengas are Bollywood favorites, especially for festive occasions, and they offer a beautiful blend of tradition and modern style. For those in the US celebrating Diwali, a lehenga can be dressed up or down depending on the type of event.

  • The Classic Red Lehenga: Inspired by Bollywood’s regal looks, a red lehenga is perfect if you want to channel a more traditional vibe. Actresses like Priyanka Chopra and Aishwarya Rai have often chosen red lehengas for important events. Pair a red lehenga with a blouse that has intricate embroidery, and a dupatta with a contrasting border for an extra pop. Keep the jewelry minimal—a pair of gold earrings or bangles will do the trick.

  • Pastel and Floral Lehengas: For a contemporary twist, try pastel or floral lehengas inspired by Alia Bhatt’s and Anushka Sharma’s subtle, yet stylish choices. Ideal for a Diwali party, these lighter colors feel fresh and are perfect for a sophisticated yet festive vibe. A pastel lehenga paired with minimal jewelry and soft curls or a sleek ponytail can add that perfect Bollywood touch.

3. Stunning Cape Sets for an Elegant, Western Twist

Cape sets are relatively new to Indian festive fashion, but they’ve quickly gained popularity, especially among Bollywood’s young trendsetters. These three-piece outfits consist of a cape, a blouse, and either a skirt or pants, creating an effortlessly stylish look that blends Western and Indian elements.

  • Embellished Cape Sets: For a bold yet refined look, consider a cape set with sequin or mirror work, similar to outfits worn by Sonam Kapoor or Sara Ali Khan. These sets bring all the glam of Bollywood to your Diwali event. Choose a cape set in deep tones like navy blue or black with gold embellishments, and style it with loose waves and statement earrings.

  • Minimalist Cape Sets in Jewel Tones: For a sleek and modern look, a minimalist cape set in colors like emerald green, burgundy, or sapphire blue is both trendy and traditional. These jewel tones are perfect for Diwali and add a rich, luxurious feel. Finish the look with a pair of stud earrings and a slick bun or low ponytail.

4. Elegant Anarkalis for a Regal Diwali Look

Anarkalis have been a Bollywood staple for years, offering both comfort and a royal vibe. They’re versatile enough for a Diwali pooja or a party, making them ideal for any Diwali gathering.

  • Floor-Length Anarkalis with Embroidery: Inspired by the regal look of actresses like Madhuri Dixit and Vidya Balan, a floor-length Anarkali in colors like maroon, royal blue, or forest green is both traditional and glamorous. Opt for an Anarkali with subtle embroidery or mirror work, and keep the look refined with jhumkas and a low bun.

  • Anarkalis with Capes: To add a Bollywood twist, go for an Anarkali with an attached cape. This outfit combines traditional charm with a modern silhouette, perfect for Diwali celebrations in the US. Pair this with soft curls and minimal jewelry for a look that’s both graceful and festive.

5. Accessorizing Your Bollywood-Inspired Diwali Look

The right accessories can elevate your outfit to Bollywood levels of glamour, but balance is key to making sure your look is both stylish and elegant.

  • Statement Earrings and Bangles: For Diwali outfits, statement earrings are often enough to create a complete look. Choose bold chandbalis or jhumkas if you’re going for a saree or lehenga. Bangles can be added to complement your outfit, but avoid too much jewelry to keep the look balanced.

  • Maang Tikkas and Bindis: If you’re aiming for a more traditional Bollywood-inspired look, consider a maang tikka or a bindi. These small additions can make a big impact, especially if you’re wearing a more ornate outfit like a lehenga or Anarkali. Choose a bindi that complements your outfit color, and keep the maang tikka delicate to avoid an overly heavy look.

  • Hair and Makeup Tips: For a traditional look, soft curls or a low bun are great choices, as they allow the focus to remain on your outfit. For makeup, opt for dewy skin, a bold lip, or kohl-rimmed eyes to add that Bollywood flair. A touch of highlighter on your cheekbones can bring extra glow, perfect for Diwali evenings.

No matter where you are in the world, celebrating Diwali in style is about embracing the beauty of your culture and making the day memorable. With these Bollywood-inspired outfit ideas, South Asians in the US can celebrate the Festival of Lights with glamour and grace, honoring tradition while showcasing individual style. Whether you choose a classic saree, a statement lehenga, or a contemporary cape set, remember that the best accessory is your confidence and joy in the celebration!

Nashua, NH Fusion Wedding by Sadowski Photography

Paige & Suhail's fusion wedding was nothing short of magical in the heart of New Hampshire. The beautiful Sheraton Nashua, grand architecture, and modern yet timeless charm provided the perfect backdrop for their special day. The venue's spacious ballrooms, adorned with elegant chandeliers and stunning décor, set the stage for an unforgettable celebration.

When guests walked in, they were greeted by a breathtaking display courtesy of Crimson & Clover. The floral arrangements were a sight, with lush blooms whispering "romance" with every petal. The décor seamlessly blended Western sophistication and South Asian vibrancy, proving that something stunning happens when two worlds come together. The exquisite cuisine from Kashmir Indian Restaurant elevated the culinary experience. Known for its authentic flavors and diverse menu.

And let's talk about Paige for a second. She was the epitome of grace in her gown, with a smile that could light up the entire room. Suhail? Let's just say the groom was equally dashing, rocking his attire confidently, saying, "Yep, I'm the lucky one." Together, they made a picture-perfect pair that Sadowski Photography captured flawlessly. Trust us, the photos are the kind you frame in your living room and show off to anyone who visits, even if they've already seen them a dozen times.

Now, what's a wedding without a little fun, right? Your Way DJ kept the energy alive and packed the dance floor all night. There wasn't a dull moment, whether it was traditional tunes that got the family up for some cultural dance-offs or the latest hits that had everyone feeling the beat. As the night ended, it was clear this wasn't just any wedding. It celebrated love, unity, and the blending of two beautiful cultures. The kind of wedding makes you say, "Wow, that was something special!"

Want to see more from Paige & Suhail's incredible day? Head over to our Instagram, where we'll share all the highlights and some behind-the-scenes moments you won't want to miss.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?

I first met Mihir in one of our neighborhood bars in 2019, except he was my bartender and I was on a date with another person. We hit it off before my date got there, but once the date officially started I didn't see Mihir again for another year. A year later, I bump into him again. And again, we hit it off. I start seeing him around the neighborhood over and over again to the point I started avoiding bars and cafes so it didn't seem like I was stalking him. Turns out he not only worked near my apartment, he also lived a few blocks away. Knowing that COVID lock-down was going to happen, I went out one last time before everything shut down in NYC on March 15 and was able to finally get his number. We talked everyday via Zoom as his parents took him back home to NJ and we didn't see each other for 6 months (until his parents gave us the ok!). So long story short - I knew he was the one when he surprised me with flowers at my apartment door. We hugged for the first time and it felt like I was hugging someone I knew a lifetime.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Honestly, there's no scoop! He popped the question 5 minutes before my therapy session because he got too excited after buying the ring. He was no longer able to propose in my hometown as our flight was cancelled due to a snow storm, so he improvised.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
It was important for my husband, Mihir, and I to find a venue that was accessible with all food diets. The second we saw the food menu with Pier Sixty/Current, we knew the were the right venue for us. We wanted a venue that was in NYC as we wanted our non-city family to be able to enjoy and love the city we adore. To have a venue on the water was just an added bonus!

All of our vendors were amazing, and would recommend them anyday.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I went to a few bridal shops in NJ and NYC, with both family and friends. I didn't have a favorite color in mind, but I was avoiding one color - pink. I purchased my lengha from NDNY in NYC and there was some miscommunication on the base color. When I opened the box, to my horror, it was all pink!

But Vaishali from NDNY convinced me to stay with the color vs purchasing a new lengha and I'm glad I did. I have never been one to wear colors other than black. Now, I see pink as a color that brings back wonderful memories of our wedding and I'm much more comfortable and happier wearing it. Thanks, Vaishali :)

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
So many things - we connected with our vendors a lot. Our photographer, Ellie Mae, had a few calls with us to chat photo ops but also to just check in on us. She was great and chatting with her always reminded us how much we love each other even if things felt stressful.

Lilly Rivera, my MUA, and I had so much fun during my hair and makeup trial that it lasted around 4 hours (oops)! We really did love our vendors and how down to earth they are!!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The food, the dancing, the music and the company. To this day, we still are told that our wedding was one of the best weddings they have been to.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Two moments, actually. The first special moment was when Mihir, my MIL and I had an impromptu dance scene once didi tera devar deewana started playing. Everyone thought we rehearsed it. People weren't expecting it, and honestly neither did we.

Second moment was when a guest convinced the DJ to stay at the venue to play Mr. Brightside. I had no idea people loved that song so much - everyone went crazy and it was the moment we both realized how much fun everyone was having.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.

We wanted to highlight our Indian and Italian backgrounds when it came to the food at the venue and for the wedding favors. I'm gluten and dairy intolerant, so food was a huge detail when choosing a venue. The venue totally killed it and did an amazing job combining flavors, dishes and adapting on the spot to guest's dietary restrictions. People still rave about it to this day.

For our wedding favors, we chose brass elephant tea light holders and brass pomegranate dishes for guests to take home.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?

Take it a day at a time. Wedding planning can be extremely stressful and things will go wrong, that's just life! But when those moments where things go wrong happen, just remember that you and your partner are in it together. Those moments will be the ones that will strengthen and test your relationship.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)

Our henna artist, Sejal is the best! You can view her work at @trendyhenna.

Sweeties, don't forget to tag us and share your favorite moment from Andrea & Mihir's big day!

Dana Point, CA Indian Wedding White Rose Production

Weddings are a time when dreams and reality intertwine, creating unforgettable moments for everyone involved. Juhi & Neel's wedding at the stunning Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach was the epitome of this magic. With a dreamy South Asian theme, meticulous attention to detail, and love that shone brighter than the California sun, their celebration had all the makings of a cinematic love story.

Juhi & Neel's love story could rival any Bollywood rom-com. It all started during their undergrad years at UCI when they participated in Indian clubs at their universities. What started as a friendship blossomed into something more profound when Juhi began dental school at USC. After Neel's grand first date, Juhi knew this was her leading man. Juhi knew Neel was the one when she saw the lengths he would go to ensure her happiness.

When it came time for their big day, Juhi & Neel pulled out all the stops. With Elegant Events behind the planning and design, the couple's vision was brought to life most spectacularly. Juhi looked breathtaking in a pastel pink  bridal lengha, styled perfectly by Dolled Up by Lulu. She paired it with bold, contrasting light green jewelry that made her glow like the show's star. Neel matched her elegance in a regal sherwani, making them the ultimate fashion-forward duo.

Eucharis Studio set the stage with florals that turned the venue into a garden of love. But it wasn't just the florals that had everyone swooning—Duke Images captured the entire event in pure artistry. Every smile, tear, and joyful dance move was immortalized, but if you think the photos were magical, you must watch the video! White Rose Production went above and beyond, transforming Juhi & Neel's wedding into a cinematic masterpiece. Their wedding film is an emotional journey that brings the entire celebration to life. From the quiet moments of Juhi getting ready with her bridal party to the heart-stopping first look between her and Neel, they captured every meaningful glance, laugh, and even those fun, unexpected moments that made the day unique.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met my husband, Neel, during my undergrad years at UCI. We both were a part of the Indian clubs at our schools, UCI and USC. We became friends and remained friends over the next 4 years. When I started dental school at USC, Neel asked me on a date. We immediately hit it off and began a serious relationship shortly after. I knew Neel was the one because he would literally move mountains to make sure I was happy. He cared so much for my family and friends and made a huge effort with anyone I said was special. He can not only handle me at my best but also at my worst. Neel makes me a better person overall.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
My proposal day was November 14th, 2020, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Neel surprised me and made a beachside proposal with all our family and closest friends. He arranged for me to have my hair and makeup done and brought me to Newport Beach. I walked up to a flower arrangement and the words "marry me". Along the way, members of our family and friends held up Neel and I's favorite pictures of ourselves through our 5-year journey. After I told Neel "yes," we went to our villa in the beautiful resort Pelican Hill and partied the night away. We had food, drinks, and lots of dancing. It was definitely a day I will never forget. I can truly say it felt like a fairytale proposal.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I always knew I wanted something different and softer than the traditional red color lengha. I always had my eyes set on a light pink pastel color, and I wanted to compliment my dress with bold jewelry. In early 2021, I went to Mumbai to go shopping for a wedding. I have loved Sabyasachi for years and have always imagined wearing his lengha for my wedding. When I got to the store, I immediately saw the outfit and knew it was the one. The gold beading against the pastel pink silk material was delicate and not too bold. The lengha was heading, but I was wearing the lengha; it wasn't wearing me. The color of the lengha made my skin tone stand out but didn't make it look too dark. The two contrasting dupattas were perfect - one for my shoulder and one to wear over my head. I automatically knew I wanted to contrast the outfit with light green jewelry. Overall, I loved the whole look and am so happy I went with the Sabyasachi pastel pink lengha.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning process was bringing to life my vision of each events. I love fashion and decor and having multiple events allowed me to explore multiple different themes and clothing styles. I loved planning each events outfits to compliment the decor. I also loved adding little personal touches to each event such as custom drinks, a photo wall, and a champagne tower pour.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I believe the guests loved how much my husband and I truly tried to make each event unique and a good representation of us. We definitely did all the cultural and religious events, but we included a portion where our guests could enjoy the events. Our events were spread out, and we chose to have only one event each day, with our wedding week lasting a full week. Our reception was the most elaborate, with a violinist playing classic Indian songs and a saxophone player doing the same. This really brought the dancing and cocktail hour to the next level.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
My husband and I repeated our vows on the mandap for everyone to hear. Although these were intimate vows, it's felt that much more special for us both to announce our hopes and love for each other in front of our closest family and friends.
Another special moment was during my pithi event. After the pithi portion was completed, my cousins decided to throw me into the pool. Not only was I thrown in, but slowly, everyone started getting thrown in. Eventually, most of the guests were also in the pool, and it became a pool party. These guests included aunties in their sarees and uncles jumping in the pool, spraying champagne. Although we all got a little more than that day, it was one of the best memories of our wedding week.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
My words of wisdom for future brides are to truly enjoy all your wedding events. It was my biggest priority for my husband and me to enjoy all the wedding events after spending almost 2 years planning it. The energy the bride and groom have radiates. If both the bride and groom are enjoying the guests will not only see it but match this energy. There are always things that go wrong but the wedding week is once in a lifetime, and everyone should enjoy this milestone in life to the fullest.

This celebration was a perfect blend of tradition, elegance, and heartfelt moments.

Philadelphia, PA Stylized Shoot by John Martin Productions

In the heart of Philadelphia, where modern sophistication meets timeless tradition, an extraordinary visual story unfolded at the luxurious Loews Philadelphia Hotel. With its history and grandeur, this stunning venue provided the perfect backdrop for a one-of-a-kind stylized shoot that blended South Asian culture with a modern boudoir twist. The result? An elegant narrative that celebrates the beauty of tradition while pushing the boundaries of contemporary style.

The vision for this shoot was simple yet bold: to redefine what boudoir means in the South Asian bridal world while maintaining a deep respect for cultural roots. And that vision came to life as the #DesiBoudoirShoot—a celebration of elegance, charm, and timeless beauty captured.

Posh Kreations, known for their visionary approach to event design, transformed this shoot into an artistic masterpiece. With a keen eye for detail, they brought the luxurious setting to life, curating a decor that perfectly balanced natural textures with rich, elegant accents. From the soft glow of candlelight to the intricate floral arrangements, every element was meticulously crafted to create an atmosphere of pure opulence. They told a story of modern bridal elegance through each thoughtfully designed scene, elevating the entire experience with their signature touch of sophistication.

Draped in exquisite designs by Meghna Jain, models Shelisa ShajuGeethika Bhagavatula embodied the essence of the modern South Asian bride—confident, poised, and stunning. Their attire showcased intricate detailing and rich fabrics that exuded luxury. To complete their looks, Tinted Teal provided breathtaking jewelry, adding a layer of regality to the shoot.

John Martin Productions used the subtle interplay of light and shadow to highlight the models’ grace and the luxurious textures of their attire. The result was a series of timeless, cinematic frames that transported the viewer into a world of opulence. Alvin Alex Films documented the shoot’s behind-the-scenes moments, ensuring that the energy and excitement of the day would be forever remembered.

Boudoir photography often focuses on sensuality, but this shoot took a more conservative yet equally powerful approach. The goal was to create a visual story that expressed the elegance and charm of the modern-day South Asian bride. The blend of tradition and modernity gave the shoot its unique twist, with each frame embodying sophistication and beauty.

Henna by Pallavi added yet another layer of artistry to this stunning shoot. Known for her intricate and detailed mehndi designs, her work seamlessly complemented the luxurious aesthetic. The mesmerizing henna patterns, applied with precision and care, added a touch of traditional elegance that beautifully balanced the modern boudoir concept. Each design highlighted the grace and poise of the models, making her contribution essential to the overall beauty of the #DesiBoudoirShoot.
