Hello, sweethearts! The last days of August are calling me to the beach, so this destination wedding at the The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort and Spa is exactly what I need! You can't go wrong with sunshine, sandy beaches, and the sea! (Seriously, I need a vacay here!) Maharani Anita is all smiles as she celebrates with her future hubby at their pre-wedding festivities. This wedding, amazingly organized by Celebrations Ltd., is just too gorgeous, both day and night! With the mehndi applied, love in the air, and Rebecca Davidson capturing every intricate detail in the gallery, I can't wait for what's next! I hope these lovebirds make time to stop by scenic sites like the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and Seven Mile Beach to see all that this island paradise has to offer!
From the bride, on her romantic proposal story:
"I'm very hard to surprise, so Jon went to great lengths to keep the proposal a secret. He was supposed to be out of town for 10 days on a "boys trip" to Mexico, and he left an itinerary on my counter. Little did I know, the return date on the itinerary was completely faked. He flew back in secret on Thursday.
I work for my family's construction company, and that Friday morning, my sister asked me to fill in for her at a client meeting at the Tidal Basin. This was mid-March, and the cherry blossoms happened to be at peak bloom, although the area was more or less deserted on a Friday morning at 9am. I got out of the taxi and walked around, looking for our client. Instead, I found Jon! Moments later, among dozens of cherry blossom trees, he got down on one knee and proposed. My mom (also in on the surprise) had arranged for a photographer to capture everything. Cherry blossoms became a bit of a theme in the wedding planning. My aunt sent me beautiful cherry blossom stamps which had been produced for the 100 year cherry blossom planting anniversary. We used them for our RSVP cards. And, when got married exactly 1 year after he proposed - it was cherry blossom season again. Our decorator arranged for our reception centerpieces to feature dramatic cherry blossom stems in a throwback to his proposal."
On the pre-wedding celebrations:
"Our sangeet party was probably the most fun party to plan and also just an incredibly magical night. We knew we wanted to do a white party- where the dress code was white - on the beach. We envisioned tiki torches, teak wood, and a true Caribbean feel. Our planner found us the perfect venue in Cayman. From there, we set about planning the entertainment. Jon sang, as did his mom and siblings - leaving not a dry eye in the place. We also had some beautiful, light hearted dances- a Sindhi family dance coordinated by my chachi, another by a friend of the family, and a special dance by one of my bridesmaids who is classically trained. The venue was able to set up a large bonfire on the beach, and we had s'mores and bananas flambé to amp up the fire theme. Bringing the whole night together, our amazing DJ (Ravi from Dynasty Entertainment) literally kept the dance floor going all night long. By the end of the night, uncles, aunties, and youngsters alike were wearing the glow necklaces we had scattered around the venue on their heads (hipster style) and everyone was just cutting loose. I have so many favorite moments from that night; it's one of my fondest memories from the whole weekend."
