The One & Only Westmount Country Club in Woodland Park, New Jersey, is definitely a favorite venue among brides, and we're always thrilled when we get our hands on an event that's held there — like today's! Damion Edwards Photography stole these dreamy moments in picture perfect style from Sonya and Jay's Indian wedding, and you're going to be reveling in all the unforgettable details from it with us all day! Before we jump into the day's events, meet the bride and groom of the hour as they get ready and pose for a few first look portraits. Maharani Sonya is looking flawless in every frame, thanks to hair and makeup maven, SV Bridal Concepts by Sanjana Vaswani's, adept hand. While the newlyweds-to-be stroll the grounds of their phenomenal venue, Design House Decor is putting all the finishing touches on the ceremony decor, which is guaranteed to inspire you. There's still so much more from this amazing affair that you simply can't miss, including a reception featuring entertainment by Volcanik Entertainment and taste bud-tingling fare catered by Chand Palace. The bride, on how she met the Raja of her dreams:
"Jay and I met at freshman orientation in high school. We were introduced to each other by a mutual friend in the cafeteria, and honestly the rest is history! We started dating when we were 14, and we've been together ever since! He is my "one and only" ... literally!"
On her Raja's uber romantic proposal:
"When Jay asked me to be his girlfriend, we were leaving school at the end of the day and he asked me in one of the stairwells. That cherished memory has stuck with us for all these years, and so Jay was determined to and recreate that moment for the proposal, but he still wanted it to be a surprise. After being together for more than 10+ years, it would have been very obvious if he took me back to the same stairwell in our high school to propose - I would have known exactly what was happening. Instead, he got my family and friends involved to plan an elaborate proposal: My parents' wedding anniversary is December 27th, and they told me that their friends were taking them out to a nice dinner to celebrate, so they asked me to come along as well. When we got to the restaurant, the hostess said "Oh, your table is actually downstairs - follow me please." She walked me - with my parents and grandma behind me - towards the top of a stairwell. When I turned the corner to start walking down the steps, I froze in my tracks. Each of the steps had candles and roses along the ends, and at the bottom of the stairs was Jay standing in a giant heart of candles and roses! When I walked down to the bottom of the stairs, he pulled me into the middle of the heart and got down on one knee. To top it all off, after he proposed, we went back upstairs where our closest friends and family were waiting to surprise us with a mini engagement party! Our proposal remains as one of my most favorite moments in our love story - and now we share a special anniversary with my parents as well!"
On her hair and makeup:
"Sanjana Vaswani is one of the best make up artists I have ever worked with. I was impressed with how efficient she was - after all, she has so much experience with working with brides that she could probably do hair and makeup with her eyes closed and it would still look amazing! She kept me calm, cool, and collected as she got me ready at 5 am for my wedding. Also, during the ceremony when Jay was putting tilak on my forehead for the first time as his wife, he ever so gracefully dropped it right on my nose (note the sarcasm lol). Well, Sanjana was right around the corner with an emergency make up kit ready at hand. She took care of it instantly so that I wouldn't have it on my face for the rest of my photos. I was so relieved all thanks to her! Also, her team member Geeta Gulati did a fantastic job getting my bridesmaids ready as well. They are an awesome team and I would recommend them to any bride to be!"
Meet me back here later today to see the rest of this incredible event unfold!
