Welcome to the second chapter of Nikhita and Amar’s wedding! Right after a lovely first look, the bride and groom had a few moments of quietness together and then headed to Santa Monica Jamatkhana for their Nikkah ceremony, classically transported by G&A Limousine Service. I absolutely adore Nikhita’s extraordinaire lace white saree, while most brides purchase their own outfit, our smart bride designed her own wedding dress and looked stunning next to Amar who opted for an elegant tailored plaid suit. The result of both looks combined, as you will see in each of Global Photography’s creative images, is just amazing! After the Nikkah ceremony, the bride and groom were surrounded by their closest ones and sat in front of each other to find the coin in a large bowl of brightly colored rice and rose petals! Sit back and dive into the magic images of this gorgeous Ismaili affair in our full gallery!
How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Amar and I met at a summer camp known as Camp Mosaic. According to Amar, he fell in love with me when we sat down during a moment at camp exchanging jokes and laughing up a storm. For me, I fell in love with Amar during our 10 hour Facetime dates when we could talk about anything and everything and not get tired or bored with each other. That's when I realized this is the guy I want to spend the rest of my life with.
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Amar proposed to me at Laguna Beach, where we had our first date. He had been planning the proposal for 6 months and I had no clue. I was at work early in the morning and got let out early because he called my boss to release me. Once I got home I got ready and my sisters, my best friend and I all got in a limo Amar had rented for the day for us. We were about 3 hours late to the proposal due to LA traffic, and once I got there he had a video set up for me to watch from all our friends with the sweetest messages ever. When he finally came out, he was wearing my dads favorite tie and he said, "your dad gave me his tie as his blessing and will only let me keep it if you say yes" That one line stole my heart and I couldn't be more excited to marry such an amazing and caring man. The best part was when my mom showed up because I had no idea she was there and the rooftop where we had our first date was filled with all our close friends and family cheering!
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Hair and make up for my nikkah ceremony and reception was done by the amazing dreavmakeup. My reception themes were all different shades of purple and white!
Hair and makeup for my sangeet was done by Nida Gazi, my theme for the sangeet was Indian street themed with umbrellas as centerpieces, a decked out bike as a backdrop for pictures and a bangles cart and Indian street food to top it off.
My sangeet outfit was designed by me and made by Elan Atlanta courtesy of Salima Budhani.
My reception and Nikkah outfit was a custom outfit designed by me and came to life thanks to the owner of Yasmin Boutique, Kausar Aunty.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I knew the colors I wanted for my reception since I was about 20 years old. Plum has always been a favorite color of mine so I decided to go along with that. It's a color not commonly seen worn at wedding receptions and I also wanted lavender to be incorporated somewhere in my decor and plum just matched it perfectly. I also loved the combination of peach and navy blue and Amar is a big fan of navy blue (chargers fan and all) so that is why we selected those colors for our sangeet.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I think the most enjoyable part was spending time with Amar and going venue shopping all across southern California. We would have the best time at these meetings just laughing and imagining what our big day would be like.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
If I had to pick one thing the guests enjoyed it would definitely be the food. I think we went above and beyond to make sure our food was amazing since Amar and I are both foodies!
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
I think the most special moment for me personally during the wedding was right before our Nikkah ceremony. I was getting ready and taking a few bridal pictures alone before I had to meet Amar. One of his best men came to me with a cute little Tiffany's box in hand. Amar has known that since we met I always wanted to own a piece of jewelry from Tiffany's and what better day to give it than right before our official wedding ceremony. Inside the Tiffany's box was a cute heart-shaped pendant with my father's initials and a note that said even though he is not physically here with you today he is always in your heart. Amar is known for his sweet little gestures and seeing that right before the big ceremony just made me realize my dad would be so happy for us!
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
For all our event we had decor done by BEL events. my favorite decor was for the reception with the best floral backdrop ever! we also an awesome donut wall inspired by our wedding coordinator Dana and Amar since they are both donut enthusiast and donuts catered from DK's donuts.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
My advice would be to make sure you get food at every event and to not stress during your wedding week. Don't worry about anything that goes wrong just live in the moment and enjoy the company of everyone. This moment only comes once!
