How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met in college. We started dating in 2011. It was hard for me to think about forever so it took about 6 years for me to be comfortable with the idea of marriage.
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
I make surprises very difficult and figured out what his plan was going to be so he double crossed me and proposed the weekend before in jersey city on the waterfront with our dog and a book mark (that he slipped into the current book I was reading with the ring tied to it) saying we’re 7 chapters in and I love where this story is going... will you marry me?
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Honestly I did not want a huge wedding but my parents did. I’m a big proponent of doing things right or not doing it at all. Since I’ve never really dreamed of a huge wedding or any particular details I just wanted to make sure we hired professionals that I could trust to make the big decisions for me. I can’t say enough amazing things about our vendors. Valley regency has been in the business for a long time and knows how to throw a beautiful party. Lax states (Nisha) is truly an artist. She took something I had no interest in (the decor) and made it into a theme that actually felt like home. Maliha Khan is the sweetest and most talented makeup artist - I’m not a makeup expert and I needed someone who would take the outfit and my face into consideration and she did just that. I feel like I didn’t have to make many big decisions because my vendors were amazing.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I got married in November so it had to be long. For the ceremony I wanted some white in it. I found a beautiful gold lengha in India and they switched out the gold satin for white. I was happy. I bought my reception dress from India too but then I realized I didn’t love it so I bought another gown from a local NYC boutique.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Small details that I wanted to incorporate like a table to represent our love for our dog Belle, a memorial table, signs for the photobooth, pictures of us
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The most compliments I received were probably about the details I mentioned above and the food.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Before the reception we had a mini cocktail hour in the bridal suite and I actually got to spend a little time with my best friends and family.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Vendors can make or break your wedding. Choose carefully but then let the professionals do their job.
Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Just incase you were wondering my husband is of Korean decent. He has a small family and did not have any Korean traditions that were important to them but his parents were great sports during the events.
