Jas and Parm’s love story first began when they both happened to swipe right on Bumble. A doctor meets an engineer - every Indian parents’ dream! After a few clumsy jokes (on Jas’ part) and some great initiative (on Parm’s part), they met a few days later for the first time.

Parm planned the perfect first date in Fort Langley, BC – simple, fun and right up Jas’ alley. Jas was, of course, late – no surprises there! They spent hours walking and talking along the river with the sun shining on them, having lunch and walking some more. They enjoyed each other's company so much that they decided to get coffee just to keep the date going; and although the date finally ended after 6 hours, it was the first of 4 dates that week alone!

That first week summed up the instant connection that Jas and Parm felt, and it only continued to grow despite living on opposite sides of Canada. They learned about making the most of the short visits and small moments that life hands you. They became very familiar with frequent flier miles, skype and games like Words with Friends (with a decent amount of competition).

A trip to New York for Jas’ birthday was a turning point in their relationship. The thrill of travelling together, the adventure of exploring a new city and the teamwork involved in picking the next restaurant or trying to not get lost proved that they were a couple that worked well together and could enjoy each other’s company for extended periods of time.

Now, after over 2 years of good morning and goodnight texts, skype dates and daily phone calls, they are excited to finally tie the knot and continue their love story in Toronto.

No thanks to COVID-19, the couple’s wedding plans went upside down. The guest list was cut from 400 person gurudwara wedding to a beautifully intimate 35 person ceremony in the bride’s parents backyard. It was the perfect blend of a very Western style wedding while maintaining all Sikh wedding traditions important to them.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
The proposal was intimate, private and absolutely perfect. While I was getting ready for our date to see the Canadian musical ´Come From Away’, he had filled the living room of our small downtown Toronto apartment with tons of tea light candles. As I walked out into the living room, there he was, standing with a beautiful bouquet of fresh flowers, surrounded by the candles - straight out of the movies. He then proposed, and of course, I said yes! Then I told him to wait, and ran to my coat pocket where I pulled out a paperclip that I had fashioned into a ring earlier that week. I walked back to him, bent on one knee, and proposed to him! Spoiler alert - he said yes too!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Thanks to COVID-19, all our plans changed completely. We ended up going from a 400 person gurudwara/hall reception wedding to a beautiful 35 person intimate one in my parents backyard. We ended doing a very Western style wedding while maintaining all Sikh wedding traditions important to us.

The decor vendor came to see the space, and with my sister (the true mastermind behind the style of this wedding), they worked create a masterpiece. They even thought of smallest details like going with burnt orange/fall flowers for the Palki, so that it would compliment our green outfits in the pictures. I am so grateful to them.

Our photo and video did an awesome job at adapting to the new COVID wedding demands, which included a full video livestream for all of our guests (as none of my family was able to attend due to travel and border restrictions). I am happy that my family was able to feel included by watching the day from start to finish as if they were there.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I knew from the start that I wanted something different, something that would make a statement. I had seen one bride on Instagram wearing a green lengha, and I had fallen in love with the colour. But I was an open canvas when it came to style and design. As we shopped and saw more designs, it became clear that I was loving all the Pakistani style designs. So we focused on that and then once I found the perfect lengha, we customized it for the green colour (which took some trial and error and people running around to find examples of green around them shop!) It ended up just how I had hoped it would, and the green was perfect.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Making the invitations and COVID signs myself! Turns out I have a creative side to me and really enjoyed designing our wedding invitations, save the dates and « keep 6ft apart » signs for our events. It was a lot of fun!
