How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Kevin and I first met back in high school. We were lost looking for our first class of 9th grade until we ran into an upperclassman who led us to the right place. Throughout high school we got the chance to do various group projects together and get to know each other. I eventually realized how funny and enjoyable Kevin was and found myself wanting to spend more and more time with him. I even asked him to ask me to prom because I wanted to go with him and didn't know how else to tell him. Kevin then realized that we had something special and asked me to be his girlfriend a few months before we graduated. We had to grow our relationship over long distance throughout college and graduate education - making do with video chat and seeing each other only once every 1-2 months.

We didn’t have any “aha” moment, but I knew that I couldn’t see a life without him. We started to plan a future together supporting both of our dreams. That’s when we knew we wanted to marry each other.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
On August 8th 2020, someone rang my doorbell at 8 AM in the morning. I was still laying in bed just about ready to start my day. My mom answered the door and yelled out to me to come downstairs.

To my surprise, when I opened my bedroom door, Kevin was standing in the doorway with flowers. He said “Today’s the day we’re getting engaged! Go get ready!”

Whenever I heard people’s proposal stories, I was always jealous of the person who was proposing. They had rose-colored glasses on the whole day, excited to ask the person they loved to marry them. I wanted that same feeling of excitement to last as long as possible. I also wanted to look and feel pretty. So, this was the perfect way to do that.

I got dressed and ready to start our day of excitement. I had no idea where we were going but I was just so ready to spend the day with Kevin knowing we were getting engaged.

He took me to Grounds for Sculpture (a special place in our hearts from high school), dropped to 1 knee on Monet’s bridge, and asked me to marry him. We spent the rest of the day surrounded by friends and family who joined us in celebrating this momentous occasion.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?

I was so lucky to be able to have 2 weddings of my dreams - my Indian Hindu wedding and my American Christian wedding. For my Indian wedding, I looked at several brides on blogs and realized that I wanted the classic red look. My mom spent a long 1.5 months in India shopping tirelessly to find multiple outfits for me and Kevin that would be fitting of a beautiful 5 day wedding. Most importantly, she found a beautiful red sari that made a statement and also brought out my best features. I am so grateful for her impeccable taste and effort, as I wasn’t able to go to India for any wedding shopping due to my job constraints as a pediatric resident.

I grew up watching Say Yes to the Dress, so for my American wedding dress, I knew I wanted a classic white dress. We were shopping during COVID, so I had to limit my guests that I brought to the store. It made the moment that I found my dress even more special because I had just my mom and my mother-in-law by my side.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?

The dancing and food were the 2 things that people talked about most! We were in such good hands with M4U. They listened to us and made the entire wedding a party. They knew how to get the crowd excited and mesh both my side and Kevin's side on the dance floor. To this day, our guests cannot stop talking about the food either. Bhog catered our wedding lunch and sangeet dinner. Addison Park (also the venue) catered our reception dinner and dessert. We found that we were able to get the best of both worlds for our wedding using these vendors.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?

Kevin and I both enjoy country music and we found the perfect first dance song “From the ground up” by Dan & Shay that spoke to us. I wanted our first dance to be extra special, so I decided to sing the lyrics and Kevin played the piano. We recorded a cover of their song and played it as our first dance song at our reception. I was so excited to share our musical side with our friends and family and often think about the gasps in the room when they realized that it was my voice singing. Our guests were so touched.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)

The day that we bought my wedding jewelry was special. I had just matched into one of my top choices for a Pediatric Residency program and was on cloud 9. My mom and I attended a jewelry expo shortly after and found the perfect bridal set. It just spoke to us. Although it was a little out of our budget range, we knew that we couldn’t ignore the signs of all of the good energy surrounding the day so she went ahead and purchased the full set for me as a gift. I am so grateful that my mom and I shared that special moment and for her extreme generosity with gifting such a beautiful set of jewelry.

We hope you enjoy today's feature, darlings. Cheers to love and the endless possibilities it brings!
