How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Both Akshath and I had just graduated from college in 2014. I moved back home to Northern Virginia after college and Akshath got a job in Northern Virginia...but the two of us did not know each other. It was not until we swiped right, that we got to speak to one another...this was the beginning of our love story.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
This day had been planned for a couple of weeks; little did I know that my plan was extremely different than Akshath’s plan. My brother and sister-in-law had come to town and we had planned on going to a couple of breweries together and doing dinner as a family (that was it).  As our brewery day went on, we arrived at Vanish Farmwoods Brewery. Akshath had gotten up to get a round of drinks, and I, thinking I was being super slick, whispered to my brother and sister-in-law “one of you tell Akshath to propose to me here one day!” Little did I know, that day was happening right now. Akshath came back to the table and told me to grab my drink and come with him. Before I knew it, he was down on one knee! He just knew.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We knew we had to start off with the venue, once we found the venue it was all go, go, go. We researched many vendors in the area and set up meetings to go over what our vision of the wedding was and what they could do to make that come to life. From the venue, we moved on to the other "big" vendors and continued to check off our checklist.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I was particularly lucky enough to be able to select BOTH a wedding dress and a lengha. I went wedding dress shopping with JUST my mother. I figured that the less people the better, I didn't want that many opinions. We had been to one bridal dress store before finding "The Bridal Room" in Tysons, VA. My mother and I went into the store and my mom ran right up to a dress and said, "this is it Sonam, you don't need to try any other dress on!"...I didn't listen to her. I picked out 3 dresses, tried all three on and of course...picked the dress that my mother knew was "the one."
As for my lengha, this story is a bit different. My mom and I went through the wild streets of Chandni Chowk to find my wedding lengha, this was the last outfit on my checklist of wedding outfits. I knew I wanted it to be red because this was probably the only "traditional" aspect to the wedding that I really wanted to keep traditional. We went into one store and after hours of trying on lenghas, we left disappointed but the lengha search continued. Our next stop, Om Prakash Jawahar Lal; this search also took multiple hours but once I tried my lengha on, I knew it was the one!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The food and cake tasting :) Our caterers were just incredible, each and every dish was created to such perfection with amazing presentation and taste. Going to the food tasting opened our eyes to what could be offered and the experience was just great. Who wouldn't love trying all that food!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Our first dance, this was our surprise to everyone. When we look back at our first dance our initial reactions are just to sit and cuddle up next to one another and just laugh. Neither of us are "dancers" so to speak, but we were able to tell our love story in a way that no one expected! Our countless hours of practicing paid off!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
My main advice for future brides would be, when your wedding week is finally here, just have fun! All your hard work and planning will pay off and there is absolutely no reason to stress. You have worked for months, maybe even years for all of this to come together, the last thing you want to worry about is if your table numbers are printed. Enjoy each and every moment with your friends, family and your new husband

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Thank you to all our AMAZING vendors, our weekend could not have been more perfect without you all! From day one until the day of, working with the management and event planners at the Westfields Marriott to accommodate all of our needs, Yaadein Weddings for making all my crazy visions come to life, Elite Entertainment (DJ Binda and DJ Babz) for making each and every event more hype than the last one, Pearl's Event and Co. for day-of coordination to make sure everything went smoothly, Bhavna's Henna for her amazing artwork and being able to put up with me for 8+ hours, Sarah Rillon for KILLING all of my looks, Liberty Baking for TWO of the most prettiest/most delicious cakes, Moghul Caterers who STILL have people telling us that the food at our wedding was the best food they have ever had, and lastly, Sunny and the ENTIRE Photographick team for capturing each and every moment so that we never forget our amazing week. Pompton Plains, NJ Indian Wedding by Sachi Anand Photography

Welcome back, ladies! It is time to unveil the outcome of this real-life fantasy. The luxurious ballroom of The Legacy Castle hosted Kim & Sapan's grand wedding reception, and we are so excited to share all the insights with you. Thanks to the spectacular work of Wedding Design & Decor, the atmosphere of this reception was so unique and magical that it seemed to be a place out of this world. The lavender, magenta and fuschia lights that Visual Comet used for this event, perfectly contrasted with the golden accent on the walls and furnished! The result of this combination: A perfect scenario for Kim & Sapan to share this special moment with their family and friends. Our lovebirds attended this reception elegantly and fashionably, and we love the look on them! Thanks to Medley Entertainment, all the guests danced and enjoyed the entire evening to the rhythm of the most harmonious melodies. The smiles, the emotions, and the excellent atmosphere did not stop throughout the whole evening! It was a great night that was coming to an end when the newlyweds had the first cut at the cake. This lovely and magical moment got perpetuated thanks to the lens of Sachi Anand Photography. And we also want to make a special shoutout to Chowpatty Catering for the delicious food served on this gala! It is time for this real-life fantasy story to get to an end! But you can always relive this magical wedding by taking a look at the gallery that we have prepared for today! Alexandria, VA Indian Wedding by Lightyear Studio

Hello, Maharanis! We are so happy you could make it to Nisha & Avi's wedding reception party. I'm pretty sure we can all agree that this love story has exceeded all expectations, and the reception party is no exception! So let's jump right into it! This time, it was one of the elegant ballrooms of The Westin Alexandria Old Town that hosted this gala. And we are impressed by the excellent planning and execution of Kundan Events. The overall theme of this reception party was captivating, and it became a major contributor to take this event to the next level! And talking about taking it to the next level, what about the incredible DJ from M4U Events that played the most vibrant Bollywood hits to set the dance floor on fire! One of the most anticipated moments of the evening was Nisha & Avi's first dance as husband and wife. And they surprised everyone when they came up to the dance floor from behind a cloud of dusk to showcase a well-choreographed dance that left everyone speechless. We want to make a special shoutout to Lightyear Studio for the fantastic shots captured, not only on this event but throughout the entire wedding celebration. And it is thanks to those shots that we get to relive this charming love story. If you want to get more details of this celebration, don't miss the gallery that we have prepared for today!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met Avi in Philadelphia, while I was finishing up school and he was working. I knew he was “the one” when he bought me tickets to a Chris Brown concert only two weeks after meeting me (or, in all seriousness, the first time he met all of my family during Christmas because he felt right at home, as if he was family already, and the whole reunion just felt complete!)

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
After years of fantasizing about traveling to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building, Avi surprised me into traveling there together, wrote me a note to meet him at a restaurant near the rooftop, read me a poem (as he had done when he first asked me to be his girlfriend), and sang my favorite Chris Brown song. The night ended with phone calls to our families, dinner, and a surprise yacht ride across the Dubai Marina with an incredible photographer and panoramic views of the entire city. The proposal incorporated parts of both of us and to say it was a dream would be an understatement!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
When I went shopping for my bridal lengha in India, I knew I didn’t want red and gold - I wanted something different. When I reached the Aso Palav store in Ahmedabad, I saw a stunning wine purple maroon velvet dress that I couldn’t take my eyes off of. I also saw a stunning light pink dress with the most beautiful and intricate gold embroidery. I was able to combine both dresses and ‘work’ with a designer to customize my dream outfit.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
A special moment of our weekend that constant replays in our minds is our first dance to a cover of “Dusk till Dawn.” We took dance classes to learn different styles of ballroom dancing to showcase our passion for dance, and we incorporated Rumba and Bacchata into it. Although we had practiced for months, the actual moment felt like pure bliss. We weren’t thinking about the moves, the next steps, or if we would mess up the order of our dance styles. We just felt so connected, so royal, and so happy, flowing from one move to the next. Although there were many special moments throughout the weekend, this one was definitely a highlight for both of us!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
My main advice for future brides would be to never let the stress of wedding planning, family differences, or the hectic schedule of the wedding weekend take you away from the purpose or compromise your happiness. Take pauses to enjoy it, relish every moment, and realize that no matter what happens, by the end of it, you will have married the love of your life. And at the end of the day, that is truly all that matters.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
We would love to thank our incredible vendors! Liz Walters for the phenomenal decorations and for making our every vision and theme come to life, M4U Events (DJ Ravi, MC Ashish) for the most hype and incredible DJ and MC, Kundan Events for event coordination who went above and beyond to assist with every detail of the wedding, Bhavna’s Henna for the most intricate and personalized henna, Lightyear Studio for capturing our engagement and wedding photos with their most beautiful and creative visions, all of our caterers (Taj Caterers, Moghul, Rupa Vira the Signature) who had the most flavorful and variety of food all weekend, The Westin management, The Fiddle Diva for the most talented violinist, Buttercream Bakery DC for the most stunning floral cake, DJ FM for the most creative Selfie Mirror photo booth, Makeup by Adiba, Ramzah Khan, and Nabila Nayyar.

This elegant and romantic reception held in the halls of the exclusive Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa At Gainey Ranch, and thanks to the incredible work and execution of Urvashi Mishra, Wedding & Event Planner, this reception was taking to the next level. The expertise they have was reflected in the overall theme of the event and it was perfectly complemented with the charming ornaments and floral arrangements that Prashe Decor crafted. Without any question, this was a winning combination that created a captivating and luxurious setting for our two lovebirds to celebrate their recent union in the company of their family and friends. And what is a reception party without music? So, we want to give a big shoutout to the great Luxe Event Entertainment, as he played the most beautiful and vibrant melodies to enliven this gala, and put everyone to dance! How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
While we had lived in 3 of the same cities at the same time, had been part of similar groups of friends and even grown up with each other's family members - somehow we had never met. My cousin and now husband were both medical residents together in Chicago at the time and he introduced us to each other. The connection was nearly instant between us. But also between our closest friends and cousins - the two groups became one in just a few weeks. We knew right away that we had created something special.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Shawn had an interview in New Orleans so I was going there to explore the city to see if it was somewhere I thought we could live. We had decided to have a date day on Friday since he has a couple of cousins there that I knew we would be spending the rest of the weekend with.  We went to City Park and walked around - it was such a cute park with a "Fairy tale area" and a playground and sculpture garden. We walked past a boat dock and there was a romantic  Gondola ride waiting for us. The hour-long ride showed us the entire park - including a bridge which had the initials of every couple that had been on the ride in the last 8 years. We happily chalked our name into the bridge. Shawn was very clearly nervous... Asking bizarre questions like "what was your favorite class in high school?". Finally, I figured out why he bent down on one knee on the bridge above the gondola and asked me to be his wife. After a quick photoshoot from the hidden photographer and many tears, Shawn led me a few steps away to a hidden private table adorned in beautiful décor and all my favorite foods, right on the river water. I heard all my favorite Hindi songs playing and fell to my knees. I assumed this was the conclusion of the proposal but boy was I wrong. After we returned to the hotel- a makeup artist, hairstylist and multiple handpicked dresses from my then fiance showed up to get me fully glammed up for the evening. Afterward, we arrived at the restaurant we were having dinner at and out jumped our siblings and cousins from all of the world, including as far as London. I was shocked and overjoyed knowing my husband had brought the people we cared about the most together for this special moment. The weekend continued with multiple planned events, including private tables at a club, festive group brunches, a private balcony to enjoy the Mardi Gras festivities, and an engagement party at the home of his cousin. It was the best weekend of my life and one I will never forget.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I used Instagram quite a bit for finding all my vendors - whether it was perusing all the weddings on the Maharani Weddings Instagram or going through every possible photographer and videographers content for hours and hours - it was definitely a great platform for me to find everything I needed. I found the entire process of finding vendors pretty overwhelming as I think the options only continue to increase in the market which further makes platforms like Maharani Weddings even more important. However, once the vendors were selected - everything felt much more seamless.

Our venue was very important to us as all of the family and friends were from the Midwest and it was the middle of winter. We had just moved to Scottsdale and wanted to give our guests a true Outdoor Winter Scottsdale experience with views of all the mountains and outdoor events. Hyatt Regency Scottsdale at Gainey ranch had all of that in an inviting resort-style feel which we could imagine our fun families having a great time at even between events and truly feeling like they were on vacation. For the Mendhi, I knew I wanted the old-school home Mendhi but still with the feel of Scottsdale. We rented a beautiful home on top of a mountain in Paradise Valley with breathtaking views, food trucks and the homestyle feel with a dholi and Punjabi folk songs from all the family and friends.

One thing that was very, very important to us was the ceremony. We are a Sikh & Hindu family and wanted both religions represented in one combined ceremony without having to have two separate ceremonies - something we realized was much more difficult to create than we originally thought. Each religion has a set of very specific rules that in many ways can conflict with the others in how the ceremony should be done. Up until the week of the wedding, we didn't think it would all come together and considered just doing the Sikh ceremony. Finally, in the last few days, it all came together. The Hindu Pandit and Sikh BhaiSaab beautifully took the ceremony stage together and performed the joint ceremony of our dreams - putting aside any differences in traditions and bringing us together in one union under both Gods. It was the first of its' kind for our family and friends and was the perfect start to our married lives together as one.

For the decor, we knew we wanted three very distinct and different feels to each event and Prashe blew us away by giving us just that - from the Punjabi Pind Chandni Chowk style marketplace to the serene outdoor sanctuary for the sangeet,  to the elegant lush style glam of our reception. She transported us and our guests to a different world with each event.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
We knew we wanted 4 very distinct looks that brought out different facets of who we are from the childlike fun side to the traditional Bollywood classic lovers, and the American born kids raised with the idealized Disney fairy tale. For the actual bridal lengha - I knew from day one I wanted something that we hadn't seen before - that had the traditional bridal components with a twist. We went in search of a green emerald velvet lengha, and Shyamal & Bhumika made that vision a reality with my custom lengha.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Shopping for outfits in India was definitely a highlight for us, as Shyamal & Bhumika, Tarun Tahiliani & Sabyasachi were all fantastic designers to work with that went above and beyond to make our experience and outfits exactly we envisioned. Next to that was the bridal trial with Makiaj Beauty and the tasting experience with Chef Kaushik  -- both vendors made us feel so trusting and comforted in their skills that we knew we had nothing to worry about.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The décor and food were definitely the two things we heard people rave about the most at the wedding; as well as the hyped energy brought by DJ Gaurav and Dhol Nation. But more than any of that - what we loved hearing was that everyone could truly palpitate the love in the room and it felt like the genuine celebration of one family, not two.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
It was definitely the walk down the aisle. While it is a moment I have dreamt of since I was young, nothing prepared me for the gravity of the actual moment. From seeing Prashe's incredible décor perfectly compliment the natural AZ scenery, to seeing all the bridal party outfits come together so beautifully but the first time, to hearing the songs that we meticulously picked for each walk-in, to seeing each reaction from the people we cared about most in the audience as each person walked down, and last but not least to seeing my groom at the end look so regal and filled with love - it is truly a breathtaking moment I will never forget.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
The sangeet dances were huge and so special for us - both of us have grown up Indian dancing since we were children and knew our Punjabi families wouldn't skip a beat in going all out for the dances. But nothing prepared us for how amazing and full of energy each of the dances was. We had almost two hours of nonstop energetic dances in our program. We could not be more grateful for all of the hard work they put into thoughtful and talented performances.

Our sangeet dance floor had "Yaar Tera Lit" written on it - an ode to one of our favorite artists, Mickey Singh and the coming together of all our "yaars".

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Find vendors you trust and that feel like an extension of your family - those are the ones that will ensure you are not stressed on your big day and go above and beyond to make your vision a reality. There are multiple of our vendors we still talk to on a regular basis months after our wedding including our dhol player Malinder, our photographer Zaheer, and our decor vendor Prashe - and we love it. It truly makes all the difference when you have vendors you can trust, be honest with and know that no matter what they have your back. Use your instinct more than anything else on those initial meetings - if you use that more than proposals and Instagram pages - you'll quickly be able to determine who should be a part of your dream team.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
I wore my mother's actual bridal jewelry for the sangeet - something that was very important and special for me to do. One of the necklaces I wore for the ceremony has been passed down in my father's family for over 5 generations.

The day before our wedding kicked out, we went to Sedona (2 hours away) with our brilliant photographer Zaheer (zmoluphotography) - it was one of our favorite parts of the whole week. Taking a moment to breathe before it all starts with just your significant other and allow yourself to soak in that incredible moment of your life that is about to occur made all the difference for us. Plus it didn't hurt to have a super funny photographer who felt like a best friend and made us forget all the other stresses of the planning process.
While we got engaged in New Orleans, we took our engagement pictures in Positano, Italy.
Our Save the Data was a picture of us imitating the DDLJ cover - in full identical outfits as the original actors. An ode to my love for all things Bollywood.

Same place, same time tomorrow! Until then, we hope you have a great one!

Dallas, TX Indian Fusion Wedding by Steve Koo Photography

Welcome back, ladies! We hope you are ready to dance and to have some fun because we are taking you into the Nasher Sculpture Center for you to be part of Simer & Andres' reception party! This was a vibrant and harmonious reception party that was able to combine both the Indian and Mexican cultures, and we want to make a special shoutout to Significant Events of Texas for the incredible planning and execution of this event. It is not easy to combine two different traditions and cultures in such a fantastic way, but they nailed it, creating a beautiful and elegant event that everyone loved! We also want to take a moment to appreciate the incredible decor that Prashe put together for this reception party. Once again they were able to amaze us with the on-point ornaments and the marvelous floral arrangements that were created for this gala! Everyone had a great time, and thanks to DJ Dominic from LeForce Entertainment, that managed to mix the best Bollywood hits with the harmonious Mexican tunes, the dance floor was on fire the whole night! Without any question, this was a night to remember and thanks to the incredible shots that Steve Koo Photography captured, we get to enjoy every moment of this special event just as if we were there. If you want to relive this romantic and charming wedding celebration, go get yourself a cup of tea and some snacks, and head into our gallery, you are going to love it!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Andres and I met in medical school under the romantic background of coffee and anatomy. As we got to know each other I realized he was becoming my best friend and who better to be “the one” than that.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
We were in Galveston, Texas visiting his brother. We had planned to go on a morning run along the beach, which I tried to get out of because it was chilly outside. Eventually, he convinced me to go and along the way, there was a cardboard box with a puppy inside. On the puppy’s collar was a note saying his name was Ollie and the guy behind me had a question to ask. I turned around and there was Andres on one knee!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Our first decision we made was to get a wedding planner because we were about to move to Chicago to start our residencies and knew planning a wedding in Dallas across the country would be hard. We met Meredith through a recommendation from a friend and everything after that was honestly pretty much easy! She got to know us and was able to make really personalized recommendations that fit our idea perfectly.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I entrusted that to my sister who was in India at the time. I knew I wanted traditional red for my Indian lengha and she designed the rest. It turned out perfectly. For my traditional American wedding dress me and my went dressing shopping alone after I had almost quit searching for one. Once I tried on the one we both knew instantly and got it on the spot.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Cake tasting, it was a dream come true for a sweet tooth like me.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think I everyone loved how we mixed our cultures throughout the night. Especially the mixes in music that our DJ, Dominic, played. It kept the dance floor packed the whole night.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Standing at the altar about half through our vows, church bells from a church across the street started playing and gave me goosebumps during an already priceless moment.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We did a lady sangeet at my parents' house the night before the wedding. It was as our way of showcasing as much of the vibrancy of Indian Wedding traditions into one night for us. The wedding reception we blended ou Mexican and Indian cultures through food and music. We had elotes during dinner, churros, chai, and kulfi for dessert. The music had mixed Latin songs with a dhol player playing.

Join us at the upcoming wedding reception, we are sure that you are going to love it!

We hope you've enjoyed today's featured wedding! See you tomorrow, ladies!
