How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met through mutual friends about 11 years ago. We were just acquaintances and ran into each other here and there over the years. Once I moved to Dallas, we got closer and became really good friends and then it just happened!
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
We actually both proposed to each other! I was secretly planning mine and he was planning his. Both of our sisters knew about it and didn't tell either of us. The most synchronistic part...we planned them 3 days apart. He beat me to it though and proposed first.
He did a Dil Toh Pagal Hai themed proposal because that is his FAVORITE movie. He transformed our home into a movie set and made every room a different scene from the movie. He had lines written down for me to play along with. He even had me do outfit changes similar to the ones Madhuri Dixit wore in the movie. It was so magical! In the end, he planned a little late-night dinner upstairs with an "Italian view." Everything came full circle then. He pulled out this game called "The Love Game" that I used on him when we first starting hanging out years before. Of course back then it wasn't called the love game; it was just a questionnaire to get to know someone on a more intimate level. After all that, he proposed and I did a cake smash! Both of our sisters came out of a room and surprised me and then we FaceTimed my parents who were dressed for the occasion.
My proposal was more public. I had it at the Don Quixote theater in Deep Ellum. It was a continuous dance number of all the songs that he loved growing up until that point. I had my friends, his friends, and our sisters in on it. After the whole dance sequence finished, he met me upstairs in the dressing room where I was down on one knee with our dog. He loved every second of it! The highlight of the whole dance was Ek Pal Ka Jeena from Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. He said that song changed his life along with many other teenage boys at that time. His sister took the lead on that and crushed it!
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Planning was so simple for me because I remembered that I had to stay organized. I booked everything a year or even more in advance. We really didn't want a big wedding to be honest. We were happy going to court and signing papers and calling it a day. We did it for our parents since we were both the eldest in our families. What we told ourselves throughout the whole process is we are doing it for us and no one else. I think it's important for every couple to remember why they are getting married to begin with.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I wanted a deep velvet red. During our shopping, we looked at so many and it can get confusing at times too. I had to come back the next day and my decision totally changed. I wanted something different and unique and I think I picked the perfect dress for that.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning process was having so much support from everybody! From our family to our close friends, everyone was so happy and so willing to help at any given point.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think our guests loved the music! Our DJ was amazing! They were from New Jersey known as D&S Event Solutions. We had a video wall during our reception which highlighted our pictures, same day edit, and amazing graphics that those guys came up with. Their MC was AMAZING! He really knew how to engage the crowd. I also think the biggest highlight was my mother's dance during our Sangeet with a special appearance by my father. It was great.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The part that replays the most was me walking down the aisle and Dilan waiting at the other end. The priest let him see him because he wanted to give me a rose and locket as soon as I got to the front. He was tearing up, which made me tear up! What was extra special about it was that I let him choose my aisle song. He did not listen to that song until our wedding day and waited for that moment. That was the most magical part.
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We had so many different components to our wedding. First one was that we had a double baraat. I, the bride, had my own baraat. We both had vintage Cadillacs and met in the middle. I believe there was a moment from that featured on Bollyshake. Second, during our reception, we did a sand ceremony, which was my husband's idea. Also during our reception, he wrote several shayari's (Hindi poems) that he wanted to share with me and everyone in attendance. During our Sangeet night, we had a casino night going on at the same time in which the chips were turned in for raffle tickets and we gave out prizes in the end.
Side note: while filming for our pre-wedding shoot, we decided to incorporate a water gun fight in our video which was so fun to do!
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
I want to tell all Brides-To-Be that it doesn't matter what happens, things go wrong, and things also go right. The most important thing to keep in mind is to remember why you want to get married in the first place.
Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
The pictures can tell you everything about our wedding! There was so much love and joy from everyone and we did not want it to end! We loved every moment.
That is all for today! It is time to get back from this dream and to continue with your day, but we hope to see you here tomorrow for more! Until then, have a great one!
