Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Tapan and I had made a pact to travel as much as we could while in residency to make up for lost time in medical school. He booked a trip to Paris and informed me the day we landed that we had reservations at an upscale restaurant with a formal dress code. We woke up late so naturally, we rushed out of our hotel as I thoroughly embraced my caffeine withdrawal headache. He asked our cab driver to drop us off at the Bir-Hakeim bridge with the Eiffel Tower in the background. He insisted we take pictures under the "Inception movie bridge" and assured we would still make it to our lunch in time. He handed our jackets and my purse to a couple who was passing by and asked them to take a picture of us. I was too distracted by this gesture, wondering why my purse was with a stranger to notice he had already knelt down on one knee. The couple i.e. the professional photographers managed to capture my confusion and surprise oh so well.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We initially started to plan the wedding in the Summer of 2019 when we went to Mumbai. We started with what I enjoyed the most...shopping for our wedding attire, of course. The wedding was set to occur in May 2020 in an outdoors setting hence we wanted light colors with intricate floral designs/embroidery for the AM ceremony. For the reception, we wanted an ode to the roaring '20s and went for a Gatsby vibe, with more elegant geometric patterns. Our vendors were finalized quite early on, but unfortunately, we had to make numerous changes due to rescheduling the event twice over in the era of Covid.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
After walking through multiple boutiques and showrooms, I came across my ideal wedding outfit at the Anita Dongre store in Mumbai. I presented my vision to them and they graciously agreed to customize the color scheme, down to the thread work for my lengha. The ivory lengha with accents of green and blush foliage was perfect for our theme when paired with the blush pink blouse. We stumbled upon Krésha Bajaj's showroom on a whim searching for the Gatsby-Esque gown I had envisioned. Krésha Bajaj's ivory lengha was the perfect fit with its elegant yet intricate design; which paired perfectly with Tapan's white Tux. The look was complete with the final magical touch by my amazing MUA.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The wedding planning process was quite stressful as we were both in residency in different states working very different schedules during the pandemic. The one silver lining was this process allowed us to work diligently together (although virtually) and share a "normal" task in what seemed like a chaotic, abnormal, and unpredictable time.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The ability to celebrate together after social gatherings with loved ones had gone on a hiatus. Although the ceremony was more intimate than originally planned, everyone fully enjoyed the entertainment (notably our amazing DJs), food, and the general ambiance of the Legacy castle. We have beautiful candid pictures which have captured these moments. This was also made possible by our day-of wedding planners who greatly assisted in making the day run seamlessly. The

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Tapan said: The Bridal party (Bridesmen and Bridesmaids) walked out with our portraits displaying the memories over 11 years of dating. There were 11 pictures each corresponding to a respective year/memory which made me very nostalgic. It made me very emotional as I eagerly awaited her entrance.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Oftentimes we forget the big picture while planning the "perfect big fat Indian wedding." It can be stressful and nerve-wracking but at the end of the day, your big day will be filled with invaluable memories. Don't forget to prioritize your mental well-being while you are catering to needs of your loved ones.

My dears, keep coming back for more!

Happy Fri-Yay Maharanis! I hope you are ready to be dazzled by Kimberley & Vedesh's lovely twelve years old journey! So, let's get this entry started! Our charming couple hosted an adorable ceremony and cozy reception at Leonard's Palazzo to celebrate a new chapter of their life as husband and wife. Maharanis, we know that organizing and creating a personalized décor for your big day can be stressful because you might want to transfer the most meaningful moments of your relationship into your wedding day. Still, this event was not the case at all! These lovebirds trusted the one and only Ruban Events team to plan and design the couple's special day. The professionals at Blossom Marimuthu also harmonized with that team to create the most extraordinary ambiance, and the results amazed every guest! They did a perfect job working together! I adore how they managed to blend every detail with the venue perfectly. Maharanis, another part of this wedding I want to give my heart to is how our lovely Kimberley looked! She combined the big four "musts." Gorgeous hairstyle and enchanting makeup by Beauty by Tamanna, exclusive dresses from Nazranaa NJ and Beauty by Tamanna, and the most glowing jewelry from Kirni Designs. Plus, a very delicate Mehndi design by Henna For All. Kuddos for these teams! I give them my heart simply because they made this Maharani look radiant, comfortable, and most importantly, perfect for Vedesh to stare at her all night long! J'adore Love Photography team was present to record a film worth watching a million times and capture the most adorable moments throughout the event. Thanks to their magnificent job, we have put together an exclusive gallery for your enjoyment. Go check it out!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
My cousin thought we would be a great match and was playing cupid at the age of 12. She introduced us via AIM & myspace in 2009 when we were in middle school. After the exchange of screenames & profiles, we spent endless nights on the phone and lots of video calls with old-school Zoom called ooVoo chatting the night away. We decided to make it "official" after getting to know each other for a few months. Somewhere in the middle of those few months of getting to know one another, it truly hit me that he's the one - he literally checked everything off of my silly "the-one" list and the butterflies just never stopped. We were the true definition of "young and in-love <3"

I had moved temporarily to Florida for a few years during high school. He began flying me out back to NYC during breaks and holidays to spend time with him. In 2014, I graduated high school and decided to move back to NYC to be with him and to further my university studies. It was only a matter of time where we realized we're not getting any younger and it's time to make things more official. So we decided to introduce our families to one another.

To our surprise.......our families already knew each other from back home in Guyana and were village neighbors. We couldn't have thought of such a coincidence or meaningful way to solidify that we were meant to be.

For our 5 year dating anniversary, we took our first couples trip to Jamaica.
He surprised me with this romantic dinner on the beach, a violinist, and a photographer to capture the special moment! Before you know it, he was down on one knee and popping the question.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I began planning for the wedding right before the covid pandemic hit its peak in late 2019/early 2020. This day has been in the making for such a long time so I knew exactly where I wanted my outfits from, who I wanted to do my makeup & hair, who I would like for my henna, etc. etc.

We had this fantasy of hosting 250+ people for a ceremony and reception. We even starting touring venues and almost went through with booking for all events. Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned and for everyone's health and safety we decided to scale back and have an intimate ceremony.

We always planned on getting married in September. Our dating & engagement anniversary fell on the same date and we wanted to continue the trend - September 25th.

Both of our favorite numbers is 12 - and 2021 was our 12 year dating anniversary. The date felt perfect to us! So we planned and aimed for 09.25.21 - pandemic or no pandemic.

A year in advance, I began reaching out to vendors to start the process. My first vendor booked was the Hair & MUA person because I knew she would be booked to capacity. The next vendor was the photographer. After securing those individuals, everything came into place. Then came our initial consultation for the outfits, the decorator, the florist, the venue, you name it. We took baby steps and allowed ourselves enough time to plan for any disasters.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I started inspiration boards everywhere - instagram, Pinterest, facebook - anywhere I saw bridal lehengas that I liked. I wanted to take a traditional approach to the color and stick with burgundy. I was always fond of a specific designer - Nazranaa in Iselin, NJ. I was constantly looking for new designs from them and pinpointing what I love and what I want to avoid.

I visited the store 11 months before my wedding date to get an idea for what I'm looking for. I tried on 4-5 outfits and really liked one but still wanted to keep my options open.

Three months after that first visit, I went back with my husband and fell in love with the same dress I really liked on the first visit. The only decision I was left to make was which color I wanted because the store had a beautiful pink version and the color in my mind was a traditional red/burgundy. The owner & designer convinced me to go with my heart and choose red/burgundy since this is the perfect opportunity for a bride to wear red versus pink can be worn to any event.

I walked out of that store that day with my customized dress being brought to life!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part was working with so many vendors including small businesses. I worked with many professional and kind individuals who made my special day even more special. These individuals were patient and very accommodating - which can be difficult in such an industry. Even after my event, I still continued to foster relationships with these vendors and I must say that has been one of the best takeaways from the wedding!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
My guests loved the creativity behind the event and decor and that it was customized to be traditional yet modern.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The most special moment was when it all came together and the anxiousness of how the day will look goes away. To be able to look at my groom and I in the mirror and say that the day has finally come is what constantly replays in my mind. Finally.....after 12 long and beautiful years.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Social media will be such a huge part of planning - you can get so much inspiration from so many different platforms. Please do your research months ahead of time and come prepared with ideas and suggestions for your vendors/wedding party. Your inspiration and ideas that you want to implement will benefit you and save so much time and planning. Being indecisive and open to options can delay and create lots of confusion & unnecessary stress.

My dears, keep coming back for more!

Endwell, NY Sikh Wedding by House of Talent Studio

Hello, Maharanis! Get ready to enjoy Kavan & Anoop's lovely wedding in today's Platinum Guide Blog.

photo #336317

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met Anoop years ago when we were kids. We used to attend the same overnight Sikh summer camp. Through that camp his family became good friends with one of my family's good friends. Anoop and I became friends and got to see each other at gatherings and at camp. We found out we had many common interests. We bonded over our love of football, food, and travel. He always knew had to put a smile on my face from 3 states away. I knew he was the one when he would spend his weekends off from work in cold, snowy upstate New York visiting me in grad school.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
We got engaged the day before my birthday. It was only a month after I had moved to Virginia. Anoop had planned for my parents to come visit us. He knew I wasn't fond of my birthday or making it a big deal. Even so he insisted I got out and get something new to wear for dinner. The week leading up to my "birthday dinner" Anoop was taking a lot of phone calls outside. The day of the dinner Anoop was on the phone outside, talking about how he would come pick someone up later. Eventually it was time for dinner, I became annoyed when Anoop disappeared before dinner and didn't tell me anything about the evening ( I hate surprises). He also chose a restaurant that was 1 hour away from our house. When we arrived at the restaurant Anoop met me and we went to the rooftop, while everyone else stayed downstairs. Up on the rooftop I had to close my eyes and Anoop led me to an area that was beautifully decorated with flowers. He got down on one knee and proposed to me with a cherry Ring Pop. It was a long standing joke between us that he could propose with a Ring Pop and I would say yes, as long as it was cherry. After the proposal we were joined by both of our families, and siblings, and a few very close friends. He also surprised me with bringing our 3 month old puppy, Bennett. A photographer was there to capture  the whole thing. Afterwards we all had an amazing dinner together.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We got married in my hometown, which is a small town in Upstate New York. There is a small indian community. With it being a small town our decisions on venue was simple. We knew we wanted our Reception to be at a hotel for the sake of convenience for our guests. The DoubleTree hotel was the prefect place for us. The ballroom was grand and the hotel was modern. DoubleTree cookies are also Anoop's favorite so it seemed like a no brainer for us. Hair and makeup was also a no brainer for me! I had a friend recommend a friend of hers and when I met Mari, I just knew she was the right person for me. She understood my vision of what I wanted for my hair and makeup. She took my "natural but glamorous" direction and brought it to life. The rest of the planning for decor and theme was all in collaboration with my mom. We talked about the other weddings we had been too and what we liked and didn't like. We also found different ideas on the internet,

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
When going into looking for a wedding lengha, I knew I didn't want something traditional and red. I have a lot of family who lives in Canada so we had gone to visit them. During our visit my mom insisted we go and look at some shops to get ideas for when we went to India. When we went into the first shop I steered completely clear of anything red. I tried on a few different lenghas but I knew I wasn't planning on buying anything. But when I tried on one lengha in particular I fell in love. It was a  beautiful peach color with silver bead work. I took it off and we moved on, but I couldn't stop thinking about the peach lengha. We left the store and I still was thinking about that specific leghna. That is how I knew it was the one! We went back the next day and It came home with me! As for my reception outfit, I actually ended up buying it from a virtual consultation because everything was closed during COVID. I knew I wanted something that was different and I wanted it to be easy to dance in. The store I worked with was great, I shared pictures of things that I liked. I then told them what color I was interested in and my budget. We then had a video call where they showed me 10 options. From there we narrowed it down and they sent me individual pictures and videos of my top outfits. After I picked my gown, they walked me through taking my own measurements via video. They even helped me design a custom duputta to match. The gown arrived and it was perfect!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think our wedding was super special both us and our guests because of the timing. Our wedding was the first time that people really were able to gather again after 18 months of COVID. It was such a happy joyful occasion because we finally got to celebrate our love with ALL our family and friends. The wedding brought a sense of normalcy back to life. People from all across the country were finally able to safely gather together. Another thing our guests particularly loved was our DJ and entertainment team. Shoutout to DSD Lighting and Events. Monish and Himanshu were incredible. They did all the music and audio from our Sangeet,  Baraat, to the Anand Karj and the Reception. They kept the dancing floor rocking all weekend long.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
