Ahmedabad, Gujarat Indian Fusion Wedding by Destination Photographers

Hi there, ladies! We hope you're ready to go on a trip half-way across the world! Today we're going all the way to India to join Steffi & Zeel during their wedding festivities! Kicking off with the Haldi, Destination Photographers captured all the beauty surrounding this vibrant event with on-point shots and a fantastic film already featured in our Video Blog. Anywhere you laid your eyes during this Haldi; there was beauty all around. But there is no surprise here because Steffi & Zeel had the best allies to make this a remarkable event. Event Tadka designed this pre-wedding event, while Aavkar Decor took care of the decor and floral arrangements. And what fabulous work they did! The colorful drapery and the ideal placement of all the ornaments created a magical setting that seemed almost surreal! And we cannot talk about beauty without mentioning our gorgeous Maharani. She was a vision of beauty in her yellow attire after being dolled up by Ulupi Parikh - Ulupi’s Salon & Spa. Simply Amazing! For more fantastic shots of this Haldi, head into our gallery. You're going to love it!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met at my store, we had a few common friends but we never spoke/met personally. That was the first time we spoke, exchanged numbers and from that day we had that instant comfort and connection. We did not date each other, as we both were looking for a life partner during that time, so we decided to spend some time together and further decide. Once we were sure about our decision, we told our parents about and they agreed to meet. They met and said YES!

Austin, TX Indian Fusion Wedding by Edward B. Photography

Welcome back, ladies! We are so excited to share Aanika & Andre's wedding ceremony with you! But before we take a look at this life-changing event, we have a small surprise! This time, we will be heading to the wedding ceremony in a vibrant and joyful Baraat procession that you don't want to miss. So, we hope you are ready to have some fun because you are up for quite an experience! We love how Andre decided to embrace a traditional style and show up at the Baraat procession riding a white horse from Fantasia Carriage! This colorful procession created a striking scene combining modern architecture with traditional Indian flair! The vivid colors, the music, and the happiness that surrounded this pre-wedding event got beautifully captured by the talented team from Edward B. Photography. And we cannot stretch how much we love every shot! After the arrival of the Baraat, our two lovebirds were ready to go inside the exclusive JW Marriott Austin to proceed with the wedding ceremony. Perfectly planned and executed by Pearl Events Austin, this wedding ceremony is one for the books! And this could not have been possible without the fantastic decor that Bouquets of Austin crafted for this life-changing event. The white linens contrasted with the golden details and the multicolored floral arrangements, creating the most beautiful setting for Aanika & Andre to tie the knot in the company of their family and friends. For a sneak peek of all the beauty and love surrounding this event, you can visit today's gallery! You are going to love it!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Andre and I met in pharmacy school when we were both part of the new student orientation committee. We realized that we lived directly across the street from each other and began hanging out during the summer, watching Game of Thrones and lots of movies together. I realized he was "the one" when I found out he loved Star Wars and music (especially Death Cab for Cutie) as much as I did! And when I learned that he was an intelligent and kind individual who made me laugh all the time.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
I knew that Andre was going to propose by the end of the year, and in December we both went to our respective home towns for Christmas break to see our families (I went to Austin, he went to San Antonio). The plan was to meet up in California after seeing our families to spend a couple of days skiing at Mammoth, and I suspected he would propose then. However, the day after I got into Austin my mom told me she wanted us to take nice family pictures, so that would involve me showering and wearing a dress. As I was getting ready for our family photos, I noticed that Andre had turned off his location sharing with me on iPhone - this made me immediately suspicious and sure enough, an hour later he called and told me he was outside my house! He picked me up and we drove around Austin visiting all our favorites spots - the UT Austin campus, our old apartments, and the park we used to take our dog. By this time I knew what was going to happen, so it wasn't really a surprise. However, what WAS a surprise was that when we got back to my parents' house a couple of hours later, his entire family and my family were there waiting to greet us with an engagement party - catered by Torchy's Tacos! Celebrating our new engagement with both of our families was the best part and totally unexpected for me.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Because we were living in California at the time of our wedding planning but our wedding was set to take place in Austin, we relied heavily on my mom's help with planning our wedding. She scoped out a lot of wedding venues before we flew into town for a quick weekend trip to make the final decision. She also helped us pick out the best vendors! We decided we wanted to have a spring/summer theme by incorporating a lot of bright and happy colors such as mustard yellow, coral, white, and green. We also wanted to incorporate succulents, as both Andre and I had recently gotten into gardening.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
My family is from a small state in Northeast India called Assam. In Assamese tradition, brides wear a white and gold mekehla chador during their wedding. I decided I wanted to wear a lengha as they fit my smaller frame better. My mom was able to find a very talented designer in Assam who crated my bridal lengha out of handloom woven Assamese paat silk. The final outfit was extremely gorgeous and I was so happy to be able to incorporate traditional Assamese elements into our wedding.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Food tasting was definitely a highly enjoyable aspect of the planning process since Andre and I love to eat good food! We loved sampling the different options, and our cake tasting was especially delicious. We also enjoyed picking our flowers for the floral arrangements. Both of our families have deep ties to gardening, and Andre and I had recently taken up gardening as well. It was really great to see what the amazing flowers and arrangements our florists were able to put together.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests really loved the endless celebrating throughout our wedding (all three days of it) and the food at our sangeet! One of my friends is still talking about the Indian food from the sangeet night! They also really enjoyed the baraat - we had to get a police permit to close down a street in downtown Austin so it was a quite an extravagant affair! Everyone enjoyed dancing up the street as random people stopped on the side of the road to watch the procession. Andre proclaimed that he had never felt cooler in his whole life than during the baraat!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
For both Andre and myself, the most special moment of our wedding was right after we were declared husband and wife. We processed up the aisle as our friends and family showered us with rose petals and our favorite song by LCD Soundsystem played in the background. We were both so elated to finally be married to each other, and it was such a purely joyous moment of celebration. Plus LCD Soundsystem playing in the background added our own special touch to the moment!

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Night 1: Juroon and Mehendi
On the first night, our families gathered at my parents' house for a traditional Assamese ceremony called a Juroon, during which the bride and groom's families come together and exchange gifts. Immediately following the Juroon we hosted the Mehendi party - my friends really enjoyed getting their Mehendi done and it was nice to catch up with people in an informal setting.

Night 2: Sangeet
We held our Sangeet at Trinity Hall in downtown Austin, TX. Trinity has an industrial feel to it, which we embraced and accentuated through the use of string lighting and hanging greenery. We also used geometric centerpieces with succulents to accent the hall. My aunties and my mother performed a few dances, including a traditional Assamese dance called the Bihu. My cousins also performed a few dances, and finally, all of my female friends, along with my sister, danced to a Bollywood medley. It was truly a special experience to be surrounded by so many of our loved ones, and to have them put on a show for us!

Day 3: Baraat, Ceremony, and Reception
The Baraat wound its way through downtown Austin to the JW Marriott entrance. We had a mobile DJ and a dohl player, and everyone had a really fun time! Our ceremony was a traditional Hindu ceremony and our priest did a great job explaining what each part of the ceremony symbolized to everyone. Our reception was so much fun and Andre and I truly danced the night away and had a blast!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Wedding planning can be extremely stressful, however, it's important to focus on the fact that you're marrying your best friend, and down the line, the small details that went wrong won't matter. What will matter is having that person by your side and celebrating everything you have with them.

We are heading to the upcoming wedding reception party! If you don't want to miss it, make sure to stick around!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Nowadays, online dating is the way most people meet. But, that’s not how we met. We took the more traditional route...paper dating (aka biodatas). His biodata was sent through a family friend. Little did I know, this would be the beginning of our love story. We slowly got to know each other via text and FaceTime, which our first FaceTime session lasted 6 hours! He was easy to talk to and we surprisingly had a lot in common (down to carrot cake being our favorite!). It was then, I knew he was a keeper!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
My groom, been born and raised on an island, we knew our engagement would take place at his home island, Saint Croix. Only after a short 6 months, we fell in love and took the dive into getting engaged. My entire family flew down to the US Virgin Islands to celebrate our engagement. Everyone knew about his proposal plans...except for me, of course. All this time, I thought the engagement ceremony would be his proposal. I was wrong. He proposed in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, next to Buck Island. With only crystal clear water surrounding us, he got down on one knee. He was smart...even if I had said “no”, I would have nowhere to go. Lucky for him, I said “yes”.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Our wedding took place in Seattle, WA. And lucky for me, my husband and I did everything together. Venue hunting was probably the most difficult task during the wedding planning process. A lot of the vendors we chose were recommendations from family and friends. Also, social media played a huge part in vendor hunting.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I’m thankful for my mom, she spent hours around Mumbai shopping for my bridal clothing. That also included being woken up at 2-3am for 2 weeks to pick out clothes through WhatsApp video. I knew I wanted to wear something traditional for the wedding (red and white). And for my Sangeet, my husband and I decided to wear similar colors and that worked out perfectly. And for my reception, I wanted to wear something more western so I went with a formal gown.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
One of the best parts about wedding planning was definitely all the hours we put into dance practice for the Sangeet. This brought all the immediate and extended family together to be part of the planning process and it was absolute joy!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
We were so happy that everyone loved everything the vendors provided eg. the decorations, food, music, our photographer/videographer, and florist. We had a lot of family flying in from all over the country and even from India. Everyone had a blast during our Sangeet, as in literally everyone was on the dance floor for hours!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
When I walked down the aisle to the mandap was my special moment. Seeing my future husband standing there waiting for me, all teary-eyed, made everything worth it.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We absolutely loved our decor for Sangeet and the reception. For the Sangeet, we went more towards Rajasthani style. Very vibrant colors, colorful camels as centerpieces on the tables, bright draping and beautiful Rajasthani umbrellas all around (the best part). For the reception, we went more fancy with blush pink draping and beautiful white flowers with gold columns. We had a dance floor for both Sangeet and Reception, and of course dhol players are a must! We had our special first dance with a fog machine. All the kiddos enjoyed the glow sticks during the dance party at the reception.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
I would say, just take your time and relax. The best advice I received during my planning process is that if anything goes wrong, your guests will never know. They won’t know what’s supposed to happen and what’s not. Keep that in mind the day of the wedding, because it definitely isn’t worth the stress. Delegating tasks as much as you can on the day of is super important. You can’t be everywhere so use your bridesmaids, family members, friends, etc. they’re to help! Also, truly enjoy yourself at your wedding, it’s YOUR big day. Lastly, sleep, sleep, sleep!

There are still more details coming down the road, so stay close for more!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met Avi in Philadelphia, while I was finishing up school and he was working. I knew he was “the one” when he bought me tickets to a Chris Brown concert only two weeks after meeting me (or, in all seriousness, the first time he met all of my family during Christmas because he felt right at home, as if he was family already, and the whole reunion just felt complete!)

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
After years of fantasizing about traveling to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world’s tallest building, Avi surprised me into traveling there together, wrote me a note to meet him at a restaurant near the rooftop, read me a poem (as he had done when he first asked me to be his girlfriend), and sang my favorite Chris Brown song. The night ended with phone calls to our families, dinner, and a surprise yacht ride across the Dubai Marina with an incredible photographer and panoramic views of the entire city. The proposal incorporated parts of both of us and to say it was a dream would be an understatement!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
When I went shopping for my bridal lengha in India, I knew I didn’t want red and gold - I wanted something different. When I reached the Aso Palav store in Ahmedabad, I saw a stunning wine purple maroon velvet dress that I couldn’t take my eyes off of. I also saw a stunning light pink dress with the most beautiful and intricate gold embroidery. I was able to combine both dresses and ‘work’ with a designer to customize my dream outfit.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
A special moment of our weekend that constant replays in our minds is our first dance to a cover of “Dusk till Dawn.” We took dance classes to learn different styles of ballroom dancing to showcase our passion for dance, and we incorporated Rumba and Bacchata into it. Although we had practiced for months, the actual moment felt like pure bliss. We weren’t thinking about the moves, the next steps, or if we would mess up the order of our dance styles. We just felt so connected, so royal, and so happy, flowing from one move to the next. Although there were many special moments throughout the weekend, this one was definitely a highlight for both of us!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
My main advice for future brides would be to never let the stress of wedding planning, family differences, or the hectic schedule of the wedding weekend take you away from the purpose or compromise your happiness. Take pauses to enjoy it, relish every moment, and realize that no matter what happens, by the end of it, you will have married the love of your life. And at the end of the day, that is truly all that matters.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
We would love to thank our incredible vendors! Liz Walters for the phenomenal decorations and for making our every vision and theme come to life, M4U Events (DJ Ravi, MC Ashish) for the most hype and incredible DJ and MC, Kundan Events for event coordination who went above and beyond to assist with every detail of the wedding, Bhavna’s Henna for the most intricate and personalized henna, Lightyear Studio for capturing our engagement and wedding photos with their most beautiful and creative visions, all of our caterers (Taj Caterers, Moghul, Rupa Vira the Signature) who had the most flavorful and variety of food all weekend, The Westin management, The Fiddle Diva for the most talented violinist, Buttercream Bakery DC for the most stunning floral cake, DJ FM for the most creative Selfie Mirror photo booth, Makeup by Adiba, Ramzah Khan, and Nabila Nayyar.

Just as we saw in the previous entry, this second installment starts with a romantic outdoor photoshoot that was captured thanks to the lens of Steve Koo Photography! How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Andres and I met in medical school under the romantic background of coffee and anatomy. As we got to know each other I realized he was becoming my best friend and who better to be “the one” than that.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
We were in Galveston, Texas visiting his brother. We had planned to go on a morning run along the beach, which I tried to get out of because it was chilly outside. Eventually, he convinced me to go and along the way, there was a cardboard box with a puppy inside. On the puppy’s collar was a note saying his name was Ollie and the guy behind me had a question to ask. I turned around and there was Andres on one knee!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Our first decision we made was to get a wedding planner because we were about to move to Chicago to start our residencies and knew planning a wedding in Dallas across the country would be hard. We met Meredith through a recommendation from a friend and everything after that was honestly pretty much easy! She got to know us and was able to make really personalized recommendations that fit our idea perfectly.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I entrusted that to my sister who was in India at the time. I knew I wanted traditional red for my Indian lengha and she designed the rest. It turned out perfectly. For my traditional American wedding dress me and my went dressing shopping alone after I had almost quit searching for one. Once I tried on the one we both knew instantly and got it on the spot.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Cake tasting, it was a dream come true for a sweet tooth like me.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think I everyone loved how we mixed our cultures throughout the night. Especially the mixes in music that our DJ, Dominic, played. It kept the dance floor packed the whole night.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Standing at the altar about half through our vows, church bells from a church across the street started playing and gave me goosebumps during an already priceless moment.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We did a lady sangeet at my parents' house the night before the wedding. It was as our way of showcasing as much of the vibrancy of Indian Wedding traditions into one night for us. The wedding reception we blended ou Mexican and Indian cultures through food and music. We had elotes during dinner, churros, chai, and kulfi for dessert. The music had mixed Latin songs with a dhol player playing.

Join us at the upcoming wedding reception, we are sure that you are going to love it!
