How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
This handsome man walked across the bar and caught my eye. I leaned over to tell my friend that I had just spotted an attractive man. I never caught him looking over at me so I figured he wasn't interested. As he and his friends were walking out of the bar, he smiled at me, said hi, and asked to sit with us.  We chatted for about 30 minutes and exchanged numbers. Learning that he was 8 years younger, in the military, and that he was about to start his new assignment in Korea, I didn't think it was going to go anywhere. I just thought we would have a few days of fun and he would leave. Well, our first date turned into a week and a half long magical adventure. He was different from anyone I had ever met and we were smitten but we decided a long-distance relationship was not for us. That all changed, after weeks of talking on the phone for hours while we were apart. We quickly fell in love.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Well, it's not as romantic as you would think haha. We were on the phone, planning his trip back to the states and I mentioned how we should drive up the coast to Big Sur. I said something like "Big Sur would be a beautiful place to elope" and he said, "let's do it". This scenario is the perfect picture of us as a couple, spontaneous, free-spirited, and adventurous risk-takers.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
This was my second wedding and I did not want it anything like my first. Isaac and I wanted it intimate and special. I had 5 weeks to plan the whole thing!- photographer, wedding outfits, location, videographer, flowers, everything! Even though it was an elopement, I still wanted it done elegantly.  Being in the wedding industry myself, it was easy to find photographers that we wanted to work with. Marlies Hartmann is one of the most talented women I have ever met, but what makes her so special is not only her work but that she is kind, generous, and downright fun. She was such a special part of our day. I had never been to Big Sur so I bombarded with questions and she was the one to recommend La Ventana to us. We fell in love with the place! The natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean and Big Sur were all the decor we needed for our wedding. I would have to say the toughest part was finding a florist. There is only one in Big Sur and she is a bit difficult to get in touch with. It ended up working out but it probably stressed me out the most. For our outfits, I took a risk on a designer I found on Etsy. She executed my designs perfectly, and had everything shipped to me within 4 weeks! Our outfits came out better than I could have imagined. D Stone Jewelry provided me with the most stunning bridal jewelry to match. Of course, I did my own makeup but I booked a very talented woman from Glamology Beautylounge to do my hair. There aren't any vendors in Big Sur so I found her in Salinas. We ended up booking our videographer last because we weren't even sure if we wanted one but it was one of the best decisions we made! The video is stunning!! I wanted to create our dream wedding and it was just that. Our best friends married us on a bluff, overlooking the Pacific ocean. It was perfection.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Isaac is not Indian but I knew I wanted my Indian culture incorporated into our clothing. It just had to be fusion. I am Malayalee Christian and typically we wear bridal gowns for our weddings. I wore one the first time but this time I knew I wanted something out of my Bollywood dreams- an outfit that is simple, elegant, but also made me feel sexy so I had to have the high slit and cleavage. I wanted off white to stick to the traditional bridal look. So it was traditional but with a modern twist.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I loved designing our clothes! Fashion has always been a passion of mine and it was really fun to see my vision come to life

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
We didn't have many but that was the best part. They loved the intimacy

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Yes, there was a moment when I just took it all in- the ocean waves crashing, the crisp air, the sight of us overlooking the ocean, my best friend in front of me (someone who had seen me through my best and worst times), my love holding my hand reciting his vows. It was pure magic. I remember thinking wow, I get a second chance at love, but this time I get to do it my way.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
My advice is to do it the way you want it. Weddings these days become so much more about everyone else, instead of the couple. To me, a wedding is about celebrating the couple's love and union and it is important to remember and honor that. Also, enjoy the day! Things always go wrong but just flow with it.

That is all for today! See you tomorrow for more!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Senior year of high school, a friend of mine was at my house in mid March. We were 17 and thinking about prom. Who we wanted to go with, what color we would wear, when is the earliest we could go shopping for a dress. That same day, my friend used my phone to call her friend Shivam. He had gotten into a minor car accident earlier that day.

The next day (now having his phone number), I decided to text and check up on him. From that moment on, we didn’t stop talking. And nearly 12 years later here we are!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
This may sound crazy, but in hindsight, I planned our wedding around the three layer pearl and gold necklace I wore on my wedding day. My Nana Jaan (maternal grandfather) gifted it to my mother and she wore it on her wedding day. From the moment I saw it, I could see myself walking towards my future husband wearing something that is so special to me. Because of the style of the necklace, I knew I wanted our wedding to be very traditional, classy, and slightly Mughal.

I’m shocked at how everything fell into place so perfectly. We picked the Marigold as our wedding venue exactly six months before the reception date and the mehndi venue just three months before the event date. Then came my clothes.

For my makeup, I had reached out to Mona Chebli and Priyanka Babariya. Mona has done nearly all my friends wedding makeups in the past, and Priyanka has done my makeup for a photo shoot years ago so I knew I could trust them both. One thing I am happy about is choosing two different makeup and hair stylists. Mona loves a very glowy, shimmery, ethereal look which worked out perfectly for my mehndi hair and makeup, while Priyanka knew exactly what I wanted when all I told her was “dark brown smoked out sultry eyes and a neutral lip”. Kinza Amer is another person I blindly trusted to do my reception hair. I showed her just one picture five minutes before getting started and I couldn’t have asked for a better look.

Lastly, our decor was done by Partyland Sajawat. It is run by a mother-daughter team. Sachi is the extremely creative daughter. She's all about new concepts and not reusing old designs. We wanted the three arches and she had them custom made for us exactly how we wanted. Sachi did the most elaborate work compared to other decorators and she actually took the time to sketch out our vision, whereas the others just scrolled through their photo albums to show us what they've done in the past. Our decor was 100% customized by us and Sachi.

Our overall experience was not so bad considering we chose to plan three big events in just six months and we proudly did it all on our own, without a planner. We are lucky to have amazing friends and family who helped with so many of the little details that helped in a tremendous way.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
For the mehndi lehnga, I chose to go with Mohsin Naveed Ranjha. I chose each of the three pieces separately and the end result was simply stunning. My earrings were from BlossomBox which had arrived just the morning of the event! And the matha patti and jade ring were borrowed from my childhood friend and maid of honor.

My reception gown was much harder to select. I had seen a beautiful mauve pink shade that I loved and knew that it would look beautiful as a fitted gown with a long train, covered in silver bead work. After rummaging through countless websites, Instagrams and Facebook pages of designers, I reached out to Marium from @theluxurious786. I was a little apprehensive to trust someone with my reception gown, but Marium came with rave reviews. I sent Marium the style I wanted along with the mauve shade and from that minute on I blindly trusted her to work her magic. The gown was exactly what I had hoped for and the intricate beadwork was exquisite.

Both my mehndi lehnga and reception gown came on the Wednesday before the weekend of our events, which could be quite stressful, but I know in the end everything works out if it’s meant to, and in this case it did!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Customizing absolutely everything! When does one ever get a chance to have a 450 person event where every detail is created by them? I grew up drawing and painting and I now create custom cakes as a creative outlet. From making mehndi thaalis to sketching my wedding gown, every detail of our wedding screamed Shaza & Shivam. Working together to create the wedding of our dreams was an incredible process.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Take a second during your wedding to step back from the friends and family and photographs and take it all in. All those months of planning go by in the blink of an eye. Don’t sweat the little details, and give people the benefit of the doubt when you think they’re not stepping up to help you.

That is all for today, darlings! Have a great reast of the day!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Jeff and I had multiple close encounters during our lives before we first met. First, we were both born in the Syracuse, NY area (he in 1988, me in 1992). Our families actually know one another from that time, but his family left to move to Seattle, WA when he was 3. After we both grew up, not knowing each other, we both attended Duke University for undergrad. Given we only overlapped one year, we never had the chance to meet there either. Next, we overlapped in Washington DC while I worked for Microsoft and Jeff was at Georgetown Law - we only lived a couple of blocks apart, but still never crossed paths. Finally, a year after Jeff moved back to Seattle, I accepted a job at Microsoft in Seattle as well. We met through mutual friends at at a barbecue, and Jeff asked me out to dinner a week later. It only took a couple of dates for us to realize this was something special.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
In August 2018, my sister (who I am best friends with) and her boyfriend, were visiting us in Seattle. Jeff knew it was important that family was around when he proposed. We went to have a picnic with wine and cheese at Gas Works Park, overlooking the Seattle skyline in the afternoon. While we were hanging out, Jeff got up to take a phone call and walked 20 feet away. After a few minutes, he asked me to come over and join him on the call, I assumed it was his mom. When I walked over there, he grabbed my hands and got down on one knee, and proposed. Next thing I knew, a photographer appeared, as well as one of my best friends from college, and about 10 of our closest Seattle friends. It was the most perfect proposal for me.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I was lucky that my mom and sister were in New York, and could help me choose venues, visit sites, meet with vendors, etc. - They were a huge help and often have better taste than me! I knew I wanted to get married in the NY area since it's where most of both of our families live. When looking at venues, I fell in love with the metropolitan feel of NYC venues, and loved the InterContinental Barclay the most. The team was incredibly helpful, we loved the style of the hotel, and the location was perfect. The hotel offered us the penthouse suite which was perfect for taking our wedding photos on the day of.
We also had the most amazing planner - Tara M Events, who helped us choose every vendor. It was seamless because she has worked with these vendors for weddings before as a v-team. I had Anita Shah for H&M, she understood what i wanted without much direction from me, and her team did an amazing job on my family. We got our outfits from Mumbai - lehenga from Sushma Creations and Jeff's outfit from Telon. We worked with Elegant Affairs for flowers and decor, Shobha from EA was the absolute best. She understood our vision - blush pinks, flowers, and gold accents. This matched with our outfits which also stayed in the light pink and light green pastel family. Lastly, we had food from Moghul - and although it was one food vendor, they made each event unique in their own way. Lunch was indian street food (kathi rolls, dosa, chaat, etc.), cocktail hour was fusion apps (wonton tacos, kebabs, lamb chops, etc.) and dinner was more formal Indian food (daal, lamb, chicken, fish, etc.). We chose our cake from Magnolia Bakery, who worked so well with us the entire time and were so gracious during our cake tasting - we went with a marble cake with mocha buttercream inside.
Our invitations and stationary were done by Azure Invitations - and everything was perfect. Our guests really loved the grand nature of our invitation and the wedding ceremony program in particular.
We wanted this to be an Indian wedding that blended two cultures and two religions: Indian and Korean cultures, and the Hindu and Christian religions. We had an amazing Hindu priest and Christian pastor, who worked together during the ceremony to respect both families. We had a traditional Hindu ceremony, but also read our vows and heard a short sermon from the pastor.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Sushma Creations was recommended to us by a close family friend from Mumbai. Even though I didn't know what I wanted, i knew everything she had as absolutely beautiful. When I got there, it only took me about an hour to find the lehenga. I tried on traditional red, other colors, pastels, etc. - ultimately loving the light pink pastel lehenga with lots of detail. I wanted to be feminine, less traditional, and unique.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
My favorite part was doing the food and cake tastings with Jeff and my family. We had so much fun trying different dishes, picturing how they might be served, and choosing the right blend of menus for each event. Jeff and I absolutely love food and all things related, so it was fun to be wined and dined as we prepped the menu for the big day. Moghul and Magnolia Bakery were both incredible hosts during our tastings and made sure we were happy with our choices, both during tasting and day of.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests particularly loved the way we balanced two cultures in our wedding. By having a priest and a pastor, as well as traditional Hindu and Korean elements, we were able to showcase the richness of both of our cultures. Many guests said it was a perfect example of how this can be done with other religions and cultures as well. Azure Invitations (Andaleeb) did an amazing job with our wedding program - it was a beautiful floral pamphlet that explained every single step of the Hindu and Christian portions of the wedding. It helped educate our guests so that they could follow along, and we received a lot of positive feedback about that.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Our first dance was one of the most special moments in my mind. Jeff and I took lessons for our first dance for about 2 months prior, but on the day of, felt that what we learned was too formal and not our style. Five minutes before the reception, we scrapped the entire dance routine we learned, and made it up ourselves. We were natural, laughing, having so much fun, and being ourselves. Our guests could feel the energy as well and it was the best decision we made!

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
For our wedding reception, we changed into western style bridal outfits. Our decor was still from Elegant Affairs, and we incorporated black, white and gold for a formal feel. My white dress was from Olvi's and Jeff's tux was from Burberry. We danced to Beyond by Leon Bridges for our first dance, and Isn't She Lovely for our father/daughter and mother/son dances. We entered the reception to "Came Here for Love" by Sigala, which was a fun upbeat song. Our band was On The Move Entertainment - they had the entire room dancing and on their feet, most people barely sat down other than to eat. It was one of the best bands at a wedding we had ever experienced! We didn't give them a playlist and they knew exactly the vibe we were going for.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Definitely! I would advise brides to avoid saving work until the end, and try to get a little bit done at a time. It was nice to have about 12-15 months to plan, and space out the various tasks over that time, especially between multiple vendors. I also think having a wedding planner is so essential in staying organized, knowing best practices, and having overall support.

That is all for today, darlings! See you tomorrow for more!
