Happy Thursday dolls! We are overjoyed that you have returned for your daily dose of Maharani magic and today we are excited for the details of Ami and Mehool’s wedding extravaganza. But, before we get into all the fine details, we are with the Ami as she prepares for quite possibly the most critical part of the day - getting the bride ready. Formality Onsite Hair & Makeup by Tiffany was the makeup guru for this event and we have to give her props on her excellent artistry skills. Ami decided to keep the delicate tradition of her Indian culture consistent but wanted to incorporate a modern and romantic twist. Brides, the most underrated wedding garment is your dupatta! Securing the most luscious piece of fabric can breathe life into the most simple of lenghas. This is a vital point that Ami knew when she picked a light green dupatta to top off her bridal look. If you notice, there is not much greenery on her lengha skirt or blouse so, this bride knew she wanted to make a bold statement. Perhaps it was to make a valorous contrast with the saris of her bridesmaids, but, it was one look we adore. Just before she knew it, it was time for Ami to meet her husband. Monty Jain of L'Atelier Lumière International Photographie was right by the bride’s side as he captured all the memories hanging out in the gallery. How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I have known Mehool my entire life. We have been family friends forever. He lived in Montreal and every summer my family would make the long drive there from Columbus, OH to visit our family and friends there. However, I never thought in a million years thought I would have ended up married to him. It wasn't until I was much older and my mom and my cousin had been badgering me about finding someone. My cousin randomly one day called me and asked "What about Mehool?" and I said "No way! It would never work....Ok....fine. Give him my number". That is how we started our relationship. Even though we didn't get engaged until a year or so later, I knew within a month of talking to him that he was the one. I know relationships are hard work, but he made ours easy and that is why I married him.

He proposed the first time he came down all the way down to Columbus, OH to officially meet my parents as "the boyfriend". I had no idea what he had been planning. He had always said that before he ever proposed, he wanted to ask my dad for permission, so I figured it wouldn't happen for awhile. Little did I know...As I was getting ready for our date upstairs in my bedroom, he asked my parents for permission and had told him that he was going to do it that night! We ended up going downtown and ate dinner at one of the nice, upscale restaurants. He kept rushing me with my dinner and I kept wanting to take my time. I could tell he was being weird, but I just ignored it. As soon as we were done eating, he casually suggested that we go to one of my favorite places in Columbus, the Franklin Park Conservatory, but I kept trying to take him to other places and told him that it was probably closed. After many attempts, I finally agreed to go there and it ended up being open, so we ended up walking around inside. I kept trying to take him everywhere else but where he wanted. As we were walking around I ended up seeing a small table with rose petals and champagne and I turned around to him and was like "Omg Mehool! Look! Someone is going to get engaged!!" He casually ignored me and got me back upstairs to look at a Christmas tree made of poinsettias. As I walked over there, I saw him staring at a sign and I turned around to look at it too. It ended up saying "Will you marry me, Ami" in flowers. I was in shock and then I saw Mehool get the ring out and before he could ask anything or say anything I jumped on him and said "Yes!!" He then ended up taking me to the table with rose petals, we popped the champagne and celebrated.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I planned my entire wedding, with the help of my family. All of my vendors were wonderful to work with and they made sure my wedding was amazing. I knew my wedding was going to be large, so my choices of venues were already limited. However, I already knew that I wanted my wedding to be at the Hilton Downtown Columbus because of its modern and elegant look and it was definitely the right choice. The event coordinator from the venue was amazing and easy to work with. She made sure everything was perfect for my wedding.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I went shopping in India with my family. I kept an open mind regarding colors because I didn't want to limit my options. However, when I started looking and trying bridal lenghas on, I realized that I wanted red because all the other colors did not make me feel like a bride. Lets face it, I am definitely not a fashionista, so without the help of my aunt, mom, and especially my sister-in-law and cousin, I would of ended up wearing a paper bag. They helped me pick out all of my outfits and jewelry.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The planning was stressful, but definitely worth it. I am not the most organized person and I think I surprised everyone, especially my family and even me. My favorite part of the planning process was spending time with my family. My family was very involved in the entire process and I loved it. My dad came with me to every appointment, even with my decorator. However, I could not have done it without my cousin. She flew in from New Jersey multiple times throughout the year just to help my plan my wedding. Overall, even though I didn't enjoy every part of the planning process, my favorite thing about it was that it brought my family closer together.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Many of my guests have told me various aspects of my wedding that they loved, like the decor and the outfits, but I feel like they especially loved the overall environment and feel of the wedding. All our guests were laughing and dancing and just having a blast from the beginning until we were forced to leave.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
There are more than just one moment from my wedding that I loved. There were moments with my family members that I will always cherish, like my cousin's speech, my dance with my dad, hugging my mom and walking down the aisle and finally seeing my husband. All the tears that were shed and the joy that was shared will be something that we will remember forever. My husband and I always talk about small specifics of the wedding. Listening to my husband share his memory of the day just amazes me, especially because it has made me realize just how differently we all perceive things.
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
My decorator did a phenomenal job. She knew exactly how I envisioned my wedding and made it come to life. I wanted my wedding to look classic, modern, and elegant. I didn't want to use too many different colors in the decor. My decor for the wedding and reception was mainly white and gold, with just a pop of color. I just love how white and gold are such simple colors, yet they can make everything look so rich and beautiful. Furthermore, adding a little bit of color to decor, makes it even more vibrant. However, I did go all out for my garba night. I wanted that event to be vibrant and extremely colorful. My decorator used purples, pinks, and corals in the decor. As for my wedding, I kept the decor all white and gold because my decorator had just gotten this extremely beautiful mandap that words cannot even describe. Also, since I ended up wearing a bright red-orange bridal lengha and because I was the bride, I wanted to draw attention to me and my husband, so I didn't use any other color in the decor. I continued with the white and gold color theme for my reception. However, I added a little bit of color, by adding purple uplighting and purple and white orchids. Overall, I owe everything to my decorator. She worked through the night and the chaos and made my dream wedding come true.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
"Learn to let go of somethings." I quickly realized that I had to learn to compromise and pick and choose the things that were important to me because this wedding was not just for me, but also my parents and family. At some point, arguing and fighting was not worth it and ruined the celebration mood. Also, accept that things will go wrong on your wedding day. There is no such thing as a perfect wedding. I was surprisingly very calm during my wedding events because I just learned to accept that I done everything I could for my wedding and there is nothing else that I could have done. There is no point in worrying because everyone will only remember whether they had a good time or not.
