Tomorrow is a special day for Maharani Megha and Maharaja Kevin as they will be celebrating ten years of dating bliss! We couldn’t have imagined a better pre-party gift than displaying their nuptials for the world to see and it is a celebration that won’t soon be forgotten! Although the couple had been dating for nearly nine years and had talked marriage, Kevin still managed to make his proposal a surprise. Heart be still. The couple’s nuptials, which included a fusion wedding, was a week long affair that encompassed mehndi night, sangeet and two ceremonies: western and customary Indian rituals. Let’s dive in, we have a lot to discuss! The couple opted to intertwine both of their backgrounds for a cultural induced celebration blending Megha’s Indian background with Kevin’s Persian upbringing. Because of the multiple day events and two different ceremonies, an excellent wedding coordinator was imperative. Bridal & Event Lounge was the ideal choice for this celebration. BEL not only provided direction, they also bedecked the Hyatt Regency Orange County in stupendous floral and decor. Maharani Megha donned a flock of bridal wear that included a stunning red and gold bridal lengha, an elegant and subtle fitted ivory white wedding gown and for her reception party - a gorgeous baby pink lengha choli with soft gold embroidery. Helmed by her side to perfect each of her bridal looks was the extraordinary Angievacamakeup who nailed all the different bridal looks, making this gorgeous gal picture perfect for Aaroneye Photography. One of my favorite elements of this multi tiered wedding extravaganza is the mehndi night that took place at the Yorba Linda Community Center. Beauty by Rachana’s traditional henna approach completed Megha’s bridal look for both ceremonies. This cinematic love journey caught by Aaroneye Photography is mesmerizing, hit play to relish in these memories!
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Throughout our 8 years of dating, I had given Kevin hints here and there of how I wanted a proposal. One of the biggest wishes I had was that I wanted my close friends and family there to celebrate with. As our 9 year dating anniversary approached, I had a feeling the proposal was going to happen but wasn't sure how or when. I assumed that since we were going out of town, it would happen on the trip. A week before, he asked if I wanted to go to dinner with his parents. I agreed and we planned to go to Orange Hill restaurant. He kept telling me to make sure I looked nice because his mom wanted to take nice pictures of us to send to his family in Iran. We arrived at the restaurant and got seated at a table overlooking the city. As we sat down, Kevin's mom called him saying that they would be late as his grandmother wasn't feeling well. They said to order and eat without them and they would meet us after. After eating dinner, Kevin got up to wash his hands and said he would tell the server our dessert order as he would be passing her on the way. I didn't think twice and just agreed. 2 minutes later, Kevin, along with 35-40 of our friends and family rushed outside near our table. A cake was placed in front of me that read "Megha, will you marry me?"..and Kevin was down on his knee with a ring in his hand. I couldn't believe it! I knew the day was coming but I absolutely did not think it was happening that night at dinner. I was startled and didn't know what to do. I can't even remember what he said to me as I was in such a state of shock. As I finally realized what was happening, I said yes..well, more like nodded and whispered a yes. I couldn't believe it. After all these years I was getting to marry the man of my dreams! I was so excited that all my friends and family were around to celebrate our special moment with us and that Kevin really had been listening to me all those years. Kevin had planned an amazing night that was so perfect for the both of us to be surrounded by the people we love. I'm so grateful to all of our family and friends for taking time out to be a part of our special day.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
After being to so many weddings, we pretty much knew what vendors we wanted for our wedding. We didn't have to shop around too much. Our biggest thing was finding a venue to accommodate approximately 700 people for the reception in the Orange County area. We also needed a venue that had enough rooms because at least 200 people were coming from out of town and would be staying at the venue. Once we walked into the Grand Ballroom at the Hyatt Regency of Orange County, we fell in love.
For decor and hair and makeup ideas, I mainly looked on Pinterest for inspiration. For our Indian ceremony, I wanted our mandap to be a little open so that people sitting in the back could see more of what was going on. For the Persian ceremony, our theme was mainly a color theme and our decorator took it and ran with it. We chose the pieces we wanted on the sofreh, but we did not know what the final product was going to look like until we walked in before the ceremony for pictures.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I went to India to select all of mine and Kevin's outfits. I knew for the sangeet, Indian ceremony and reception, I wanted a lengha and for the mendhi I wanted something a little flowy. For the Persian ceremony, I looked for dresses to buy but it just wasn't working out. Instead, I opted to rent a dress from a small shop in Orange County.
I knew what colors I wanted for each outfit before starting the process. My aunt is great at finding outfits for me so I used her expertise as well, to help guide me to finding my perfect outfits.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
One of my favorite parts of our weekend will be the reception. Standing on the stage, looking at the crowd of hundreds dancing with glow sticks, jumping up and down and just enjoying the moment, will always stand out in my mind. As much as our wedding was for us, we also kept our guests in mind and we did as much as we could to ensure that our guests had just as much as fun as us.
I just love these memories caught on film! Head back tomorrow for another love journey with Maharani Weddings!
