Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!

My husband and I share the same birthday, so last year he secretly flew in to Winnipeg (he lives in Calgary) on our birthday to surprise me. By coordinating with my sister and brother-in-law, he arranged to have me come to a hotel. There I was greeted by a woman holding a rose, rose petals and candles scattered throughout the room, and a violinist playing my favourite song. He popped the question and it was everything I could have hoped for and more. It was extra special because it was our birthday and being long distance, we hadn't been able to spend many birthdays together.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.

Being from two different cities we had to decide where and when to hold our events. We decided on the wedding in Calgary and an engagement party in Winnipeg (bride's city) 2 months prior to the wedding so that those that could not travel to Calgary could at least attend one wedding function. We then booked venues and vendors accordingly. Choosing vendors was quite easy. Every single vendor we booked was someone who we had experienced from various previous weddings. In the end, I loved everything, from the decor, to the makeup artist, to the DJ, and my incredible photographer and videographer.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?

I did all of my shopping in Amritsar, India. I specifically went to a boutique that my sister and cousin had bought their wedding outfits from - and believe it or not, I bought my wedding lengha within 3 hours of landing in India! I was looking for something pink and set aside 4-5 to try on. I knew instantly which lengha was the one as soon as I looked in the mirror. My mom and dad were with me and I could see that look in their faces. It was a very "say yes to the dress" moment. It was all over gotta patti and thus was extremely lightweight and fun to wear.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?

During the planning process: prioritize! Choose 2-3 elements that are extremely important to you and get your fiancee to do the same. For me it was videographer and makeup artist, for my husband it was reception elements (DJ, lighting, alcohol selection). During the wedding: enjoy yourself, live in the moment, and dance all the wedding planning stress away!
