How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Adish and I met through a mutual friend while we were in college. We were part of a large friend group but started spending a lot of time together when we both moved to New York after college. As we got to know each other, we realized that we shared many of the same values, goals and of course humor! A friend recently told me at our wedding that Adish was nervous to take our friendship to the next level because in his own words "she's someone I can see marrying." So I guess he knew pretty early on! For me, I knew he was "the one" when I realized that if I could, I wanted to share every moment of my life with him, happy or sad. He's my person.
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
I always told Adish I wanted to be proposed to with a puppy. Unfortunately that didn't happen but he did get me a flower bouquet shaped like a dog that day, so I guess that sort of counts!
Our proposal took place in Adish's favorite restaurant in his hometown, Guiseppe's, on their outdoor patio which overlooked the lake. It was a complete surprise. I actually thought we had walked in on someone else's party until I noticed all the pictures had Adish and I in them! We celebrated with friends and family right after!
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Location was very important to us as my immediate family lives in Long Island and Adish's in Massachusetts. By choosing Greentree County club, which is located in Westchester, we were able to have a beautiful ballroom and ceremony right by the water without having our family travel too far.
Second, after an event, all the aunties and uncles always talk about how good the food was so we knew we had to go above and beyond. We were so happy with the tailor-made menu Sukhadia's provided us- it was delicious!
I think one of the best decisions we made was having a day of wedding planner to coordinate all the details and events. Sunita and Tejal from Glamorous event planners executed our events perfectly. They even helped us with decor by setting up a lounge area during the reception and a jazz band during cocktail hour, which everyone loved! Shobha from Alankaar events provided us with a beautiful mandap set up.
Since Adish and I have many common college friends, our wedding was like one big class reunion. Dj YOGI made sure everyone was on their feet and having a blast all night long. By the end of the night, he honestly felt like another family member to me and his effort and enthuse in his job was incredible.
Choosing the right photographer and videographer is one of the most important steps in planning a wedding as we continue to look upon their work in the years to come to remember all the beautiful memories. From our initial interaction with Javed and Nayeem from NYNJ photography, we knew they were the only ones who could have us be natural in front of the cameras. As you can see from the pictures, they had a incredible job capturing not only the moment but the emotions involved. For hair and makeup, I wanted to keep my look very simple and elegant. After a few trials, I felt Sanjana Vaswani of SV Bridal Concepts really got my vision. I felt beautiful and confident at my wedding and reception!
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I knew I wanted to go with a traditional red colored lengha for my wedding dress and also the nine-yard sari as tradition in the Brahmin culture of Adish's family. It was really important for me to respect the traditions of both sides of our families.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think our guests favorite part was our Sangeet cruise of the Manhattan skyline. As we had many guests traveling from India and across the country, we wanted to give them a taste of how beautiful New York, the city Adish and I fell in love in, really is!
The cruise had spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty. It was absolutely breathtaking.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
A truly special moment for me is when my uncle surprised me at the wedding.
My aunt is not doing too well and we had gone to visit them the weekend before the wedding. My uncle told me then he would not be able to make it as he had to stay and take care of my aunt. I completely understood but knew how much everyone would miss him.
When I saw him during our wedding weekend, I knew he pulled out all the stops so he could be there. We missed my aunt a lot but were constantly facetiming her so she wouldn't miss all the fun!
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Don't stress too much! There were things that did not go as planned during our wedding but I wouldn't change any one of them looking back. It’s okay to sit back and enjoy your day and give some responsibility to family and friends- they will be more than happy to help!
Have a lovely Thursday Maharanis!
