How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Our first date was at Dominiks in Ann Arbor, MI. We were both Michigan alumni and wanted to be in a nostalgic environment and it turned out to be a memorable night. I remember having a great time with him and laughing most of the time. I knew he was the one the day he met my parents for the first time. He came home with a bouquet of flowers in hand and when I reached out for them, he stopped me and said, "Nope, these are for your mom." I knew my parents loved him because he really cared to make our relationship work, and that is how I knew we were in it for the long haul.
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
He proposed to me at botanical gardens in Ann Arbor. I was thinking we were just going to dinner with my friends and sister. However, after dinner, he told me he wanted to go buy some plants from the nearby botanical gardens for his dad. When we got there, it was dark and barely anyone was there. I was complaining about being there when I noticed an aisle of paper lanterns leading up to more lanterns that spelled out "Marry Me?" Then he got down on one knee and did his thing. No, I had no clue it was going to happen that night.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I started on the Knot.com checklist and then started looking at venues. The date was set after the venue was decided, and then by word of mouth I hired my decorator, DJ, makeup/hair artists, etc.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I went shopping in India with my parents in Feb prior to the wedding because I wanted options. I knew I wanted a classical look- burgundy, and gold. I never was picky about my dresses but I fell in love with the way the colors popped with velvet fabric. The reception dress was my dad's favorite.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Looking at venues was the best part because there are many options and it was fun to see what was out there.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
They loved our first dance indoor fireworks and cloud effect.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The first dance because we chose that song over a year ago and were very excited to finally dance to it on our wedding day.
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We hired a college bhangra team and that added so much hype in the audience. We loved that we opened up the dance floor after the team performed.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Stay focused on what is most important through the stressful planning process- you are going to be marrying your favorite person and that's all that matters in the end.
Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Our venue was Bentley Banquet Center in Wyandotte- and we were their first Indian wedding. Although I was nervous at first, the staff's hard work and dedication made my day perfect. The minor glitches don't even matter once the day has come.
I loved my Mehendi artist- Uzma Tarannum (uzmashennaart -Instagram). She was sweet, flexible, and an amazing artist. I asked for elephants on my feet and although she never drew them before, she still went for it and succeeded. The cake was from Shatila in Dearborn. The 4 tier cake was beautiful with handcrafted roses and edible glitter and tasty as well.
TGIF! I will be back on Monday!
