Long Island, NY Indian Fusion Wedding by Unique Visions Studio
How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Mike and I were set up by a mutual friend at school (University of Delaware) almost 10 years ago. We started dating my senior year and then I moved to NYC while Mike stayed in Delaware to complete his master's degree - we were long distance for 2 years and the second Mike moved to NYC, I knew I couldn't imagine being apart from him again!
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Mike picked me up from work to grab a drink before we were going to a Kygo concert. Instead of grabbing a drink first we went for a stroll where he proposed in Battery Park. I found out later he was supposed to propose the day after in Central Park where we had one of our first real dates but once he found it was going rain he knew there was no chance of getting me to the park without being suspicious. He also planned a surprise party for our immediate family and our closest friends at Tavern on the Green in Central Park.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We had such wonderful vendors that really supported us in building our dream wedding! When we went to our first appointment with Glamorous Events with my PowerPoint presentation of inspiration for the decor I wanted for all three events, instead of thinking I was crazy they executed it perfectly. Our DJ from BWD events helped us create the perfect playlist to balance Mike's favorite EDM songs with my 90's reggaeton requests all while simultaneously catering to our Punjabi and Jewish guests. Salwa Photography and Unique Visions captured all our favorite moments while making us feel so comfortable with cameras next to us in our most intimate wedding moments.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Mike and I had a #hinjewwedding, instead of blending our Hindu and Jewish wedding ceremonies we had both! So I went the traditional route for both ceremonies; I wore a red lengha for our Hindu ceremony on Friday and a white wedding dress for our Jewish wedding on Saturday.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Being engaged! Realizing we were planning OUR wedding, we truly felt the excitement as we made the wedding of our dreams come to life!
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
We are still so flattered by all of our guest's compliments - they loved our decor at the Sangeet - we went for traditional bright India - lots of colors, Mendhi stations, a rickshaw to take pictures with, a Bazaar full of bangles and purses. For the Hindu wedding - I could not hear more about how Mike's Baraat and how amazing he looked like an Indian groom on a horse and his dance moves! For the Jewish ceremony and reception our guests loved everything about our venue, Flowerfield, the grounds were stunning and they were blown away by their catering!
Was there a really special moment at your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Mike and I snuck out of our reception and took a moment to ourselves to walk outside and admire the party from afar and it was so special to take that minute for just us and to stand back and appreciate all of our friends and family on the dance floor celebrating us!
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Try to enjoy being engaged - it all goes by so quickly, it is so easy to get stressed and caught up with the planning process. Mike and I planned specific moments during the process that was just for us - whether it was going to a vendor appointment alone, booking a spa day, or just going for a picnic in Central Park. It is important to remember you are not just planning a wedding, you are getting married!
Wait to see what we have prepared for your Friday, so stick around!
