How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Murtaza and I have been dating for 6 years now. We met in our community social center as co-instructors and became good friends. It was in the second last week of 2015 when he caught me surprisingly during our regular conversation and asked me to be his girlfriend, and I said NO!!
With his 2 weeks of persistent efforts, finally, on December 21st, 2015, he successfully managed to change my ‘No’ to a ‘Yes,’ and we have been together ever since! I knew since then that Murtaza was going to be the man I’d marry!

December 21st, 2020, was the best day of my life. My best friend became my Fiancé. We were visiting New York to celebrate our five years of togetherness. He told me that he had a fancy dinner planned and that we had to dress up all cute for the pictures and the dinner, and that he specifically booked a Limo to take us to the dinner. I was ready and waiting for our ride, and suddenly, there it was! All the NY TIMESQUARE BILLBOARDS, lit with our pictures!! When I turned around to look at his face, shockingly, there he was, kneeling down with a ring in his hand and popping the big question.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
We wanted to do a Mughal-inspired reception, so I went with the traditional heavily embroidered lehenga. I am a fashion designer by profession, so I designed my Bridal lehenga myself.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Getting to see all your dreams, all your efforts, all the minutest details coming to life.
I planned each and every detail of my wedding myself, from venue to food, from table cloth to life-size elephants, from giveaways to songs, every single thing that you can name it. So, seeing everything come together so beautifully on the final day was a dream come true!!
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The Food and Decor!!
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We had six events in total: Haldi, Mehendi, Pithi, Sangeet, Nikah, and Reception.
Haldi was our first event with all the fun and ubtan ceremony to kick off the start of wedding festivities.
Then we had our Mehendi, a traditional event where everyone applies henna. The most fun twist for this event was the Tambola night (BINGO). We wanted to do something fun, so we added Bingo night to our Mehendi event and handed out prizes to the winners.
Our Pithi event was a traditional Ismaili wedding event having all the wedding rasam.
Then we had the classic Disco Bollywood night, aka Sangeet. The whole night was just fun, dance and celebration. The main attraction of the night was the Singer all the way from Bollywood. Our guests loved it and danced to his beats all night long.
Then we had the Nikah, the actual Islamic ceremony of tying the knots.
Finally, Reception!! Imagine Jodha Akbar. It was a complete Mughal-themed reception with a gigantic and never seen before Mughal Era stage, with life-size elephants and all the Mughal decor. We also had small Mughal embroidered elephant statues for giveaways for our guests.
Darlings, I hope you enjoyed today’s entry. I'll see you next week for more happy endings!
