How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met during COVID-19 after my groom decided to join me in the film/TV industry. The more we went out, the more I found that he was a gentle, kind, and funny soul - who loved people with his whole heart. The more we went out, the more I felt at home with him.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Harold's friends (who also just got married to each other) are a wedding videographer/photographer couple. They told me that they were going to film a wedding at Untermeyer Gardens, a place that is close to Harold and my heart, and wanted us to walk them around so they could scout the area in preparation for the wedding. Little did I know that it was actually a ruse for Harold to propose to me! We decided to be silly and take photos overlooking the Hudson River. When it was my turn, I was instructed to turn around and look out to the river. Once the photo was taken, I turned back around, and there he was on one knee!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair and makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Planning a wedding was no small feat at all. We opted for a smaller wedding rather than a larger wedding with 400+ guests. We ended up inviting roughly 150 people and kept our pre-wedding ceremonies very small to immediate family only.

Scouting the venues was a fun adventure. We went to Glen Cove Gurudwara, and they were very open-minded and kind about hosting an interracial couple. Our reception was held at Vista LIC, and they took care of us every step of the way - a big shout out to Bill Kennedy for going above and beyond.

I got my HMU done by Makeup by Saima; she was a godsend who kept me calm and collected and made me look amazing. Not only is she superior in skill, but my hair and makeup did not budge ALL DAY from 4A-11P. Even with an outfit change!!!!!

Speaking of outfits, I got lucky and found an outfit online from Kapoor Designers. My husband's outfits were purchased from Shingar in Richmond Hill, and they worked with us in designing a sherwani/western suit hybrid.

We kept our decor low-key and fun. The venues we chose were beautiful in their own right, and we did not want to take away from that.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I've known since I was a child that my bridal lehenga would be a traditional red. After getting engaged, I knew a trip to India would be difficult. After endless scrolling on Instagram for inspiration, I stumbled upon a beautiful semi-stitched lehenga from Kapoor Designers in Gujarat. I decided to throw a Hail Mary since the website did not have many reviews and lucked out with an absolutely gorgeous product!!!! I promptly got it tailored, and my mother stitched on some trim on the arms (I wanted them longer), which added a lovely personal touch.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I found the whole process stressful, but the best part was watching all the hard work pay off! The event went off without a hitch and was absolutely amazing.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
A LOT. Most notably, our DJ (DJ AMRIT) was live mixing at our reception. It has been over six months since our wedding, and people STILL talk about how amazing the music was. He blended Dominican and Indian music together so well that the dance floor was lit the whole night!!! We also received a lot of compliments on food, from the breakfast and lunch at the Gurudwara (catered by Punjabi Dhaba) to the reception dinner (catered by the venue). It was flavorful and accommodated all spice levels.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Everything was amazing, but the highlight was getting married to my best friend.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.

My chunni ceremony and henna ceremony were held at home with immediate family from both sides. My family had a small apartment, so we kept decorations minimal but effective. We placed colorful drapes on the wall and had Moroccan-style pillows all around the house so people could be comfortable no matter where they sat. It was a cozy experience full of love!

We had a combined Haldi/Jago/Choora ceremony at the Royal India Palace, where we invited a broader range of family and friends. Our Haldi and Jago were done side by side. All in all, it was a great time to get people pumped up for the wedding!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?

Organization is key. I had a master Excel sheet that I created, which kept me on top of everything. It will be a stressful process, but know that once the day comes, everything will fall into place. Remember, the goal is to marry your partner, and as long as you accomplish that, the whole day is mission success.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Jewelry - Royal Designers in Jackson Heights curated all my jewelry. They are a lovely father/daughter shop and have beautiful pieces!
Mehndi - Henna by Inder. She was sweet and amazing! Her price is very reasonable, and I am still in love with the design she created for me.

Darlings, I hope you enjoyed reading about our Maharani brides and their inspiring weddings!

Valdosta, GA Gujurati Wedding by Oak & Gold Studios

The story of Tulsi & Prashill's wedding is back! Held at the magnificent Rainwater Conference Center, their wedding was the epitome of a fairy tale brought to life. With the meticulous orchestration of Events by Nandani, every element seemed to whisper the couple's love story. Thanks to Floral Designs by Her, the air was perfumed with roses and marigolds. Tulsi was a vision in her Ejaaz Coutour bridal finery, and Bhindi Jewelers Atlanta adorned her with jewels that sparkled with the promise of forever love. Stringed Petals crafted exquisite flower jewelry, infusing a traditional charm that was nothing short of mesmerizing. Glam by Amber Bava worked its magic, draping her in elegance with bridal draping, sari tying, and styling that echoed the grandeur of an ancient romance. As the celebrations unfolded, Maa Vimla Catering tantalized the palates with a feast fit for royalty, every dish narrating the richness of South Asian cuisine. DJ Prince Chishty took over, turning the gathering into a jubilant dance of joy. And as Oak and Gold Studios weaved through the crowd, their lenses didn't just record; they immortalized the laughter, the tears, and the love that filled the room, crafting a cinematographic masterpiece that would allow one to relive the day over and over. Enjoy!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met him through my high school friend's boyfriend, who was also his high school friend. He sent my Instagram handle. The moment I came home from work and saw my phone, it was full of a bunch of likes, so I also went and liked his pictures, but he only had 4. So I didn't want to seem too interested, so I only liked a couple. And he liked more of my pictures. So I messaged him, and he said he was returning the favor!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Our proposal was done with close friends and family. I told him where ever he did it. My sister had to be there! He made a plan when we went to visit my Sister in Jersey. We went to New York, and he had a proposal planned at the Edge. I was talking to him about this place and how I wanted to go there a few months prior to our proposal, and he made it happen!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Planning part: It kind of got really hectic trying to juggle work and planning a full wedding at the same time! I turned to Nandani. I met her for the first time with my parents and Prashill and loved her! She made the whole experience less hectic. She replied to all the emails and set up all the appointments. She even ran through what was needed from me during those meetings with each vendor.
Shopping was very exciting. I ordered my wedding outfit from Ejaaz Couture, and for the rest of the events, I designed them. Shopping was exciting since my whole family was there sharing opinions and buying everything together for the wedding. At times, it was confusing since we didn't know what to pick and worried if it would match, but it all turned out amazing!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Wedding dress? I was always into weddings and always talked about my wedding. I looked on Instagram for suggestions, and I knew I was very detailed and I had to love every part of what I was wearing. For my wedding, I knew I wanted a red but not a bold red. I saw the Ejaaz outfit in one picture but didn't see anyone wearing it. I always had my mind on it, and when it came to the time when I had to choose, it always pulled me to the one that I saw a year prior.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The best part of the planning was executing, haha. I loved it when we got done picking vendors, and we only had to worry about the small things, like decor and how it was decorated, suggestions on the food, or shopping and making sure everything was purchased and ready to use.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
My guest enjoyed how well it was organized and went through without any hiccups. Usually, we would forget something. Nandani is so great at making sure that each detail is perfect. She remembers everything I wanted and exactly how I wanted things. I was worried that during the event and wedding days, they may need me for something, but Nandani knew how I would want that done, so she made sure it was done before any issues came to me.
The guests enjoyed the food, and everyone LOVED it!!! We had food served to guests almost four times a day, including snacks and drinks. My Food Caters were amazing; they stayed on top of everything.
Everyone enjoyed how well it was executed, and since we were on a time crunch, no one still felt rushed. It all happened on time, and everyone was able to enjoy it!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
When I was walking down the aisle, I almost cried! I knew I had to be strong since my dad was walking me down, and he would cry immediately! The pheras only happen once, so make sure to give each other the most time and walk very slowly!!
The last thing is when we fed each other the Pada and Kajukatri. We made sure to add a special touch of us to it. We are very playful yet caring, so we made sure to enjoy it!

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Sangeet was my favorite event other than the wedding, It was the first event together that both sides were able to mingle and enjoy. It was very special to see how both families were able to laugh and converse together.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Please take it easy. There are times when I would panic, but now, looking back at it, it's done! The planning and the shopping, the events are sometimes always so stressful that we forget that it's going to be done too quickly! Make sure to always look at each and know that this is your time spent together and the memories you create!
Join us in celebrating the beginning of more adventures, and may love continue to inspire us all.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Our story started as an office romance! We both worked on the same team and sat three feet away from each other, so it was inevitable that we'd become friends. We first hit it off at a team happy hour, and eventually, these group hangs turned into on one hangs where we explored the San Francisco nightlife. That's when I began to realize there was something special about Ananth. Knowing he was "the one" didn't happen in a single instant, but rather it was a gradual realization that dawned on me. I'd always talked about finding a "dream boy," and with him, everything seemed to click into place in a special way that I'd never experienced before.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
On what seemed like an ordinary day, I woke up, got a manicure and bagel brunch with friends, and under the premise of meeting some friends of a friend visiting from out of town, I was lured to the tallest building in Philadelphia (somehow I found none of this suspicious). On the 60th floor, against a backdrop of gorgeous views and beautiful flowers, I found Ananth (who I thought was busy moving out of his California apartment that day), along with her family and closest friends. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, and naturally, I said YES! Somehow, despite an 11-page long Google doc outlining her dream proposal, I was still surprised - probably because of Ananth's decoy date and carefully planned moving truck photos he sent me to throw me off!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Our planning process began with the booking of our venue and main vendors, ensuring that we secured the key elements of our big day. After that, we made a trip to India to shop for our wedding attire and accessories. After this, we then turned our focus to the finer details. This included crafting a comprehensive timeline, outlining responsibilities, and making lists and spreadsheets for every aspect of the wedding. Staying organized was key, and this helped us keep track of everything efficiently.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
For our mehendi and welcome event, I wanted a bold, colorful, and fun look. I wore a dark blue glittery lehenga with floral beading in gold and pink.

For the ceremony, I opted for a more traditional look, which I wanted to be classic and elegant - I wore a red and gold kanjeevaram 6-yard sari as well as a yellow and pink 9-yard sari.

For the reception, I wanted for a modern and sparkly look and wore a pale pink lehenga covered in sparkles and intricate beading that caught the light whenever I moved.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning process for me was diving into the creative aspects of the wedding. It was the opportunity to bring our vision to life and add personal touches to make the day uniquely ours. Whether it was choosing the color schemes, designing the invitations, or crafting the decor theme, each decision allowed us to infuse our personalities and styles into every detail. It was a chance to express our love story in a visual and meaningful way, and it made the whole process incredibly rewarding and exciting.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our first dance was a perfect representation of us, infused with the vibrant energy of Bollywood. It even included a big, filmy lift that wowed our guests. It was a magical moment that captured the essence of our love and shared passions.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
One of the most memorable moments for me was the incredible surprise dance that my friends and husband had put together. It was a dance so quintessentially "me" that it touched my heart deeply. Their thoughtfulness and the effort they put into it made it a standout moment that left a lasting impression.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
For our pre-wedding event, the Mehendi and the welcome dinner, we aimed for a fusion of fun and elegance. During the event, my husband and I decided to make it a musical affair. We surprised our guests with a guitar and piano duet, performing lively Bollywood songs that set the tone for a joyous and vibrant evening. It was a personal touch that allowed us to share our love for music with our loved ones. We also had a playful "shoe game" that added a fun twist to the evening. The night continued with an open dance floor, where everyone joined in to celebrate and dance the night away, making it a memorable and spirited occasion.

For the reception, we focused on creating an atmosphere of sophistication and glamor - thus, our decor was classy and elegant, with sparkles and florals, and candles everywhere. The reception featured various elements, including Bollywood dances and heartfelt speeches from family and friends.
After dinner, we wrapped up the event with a night of non-stop dancing.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
1. Plan meticulously: Keep track of everything in a way that works best for you. Whether it's through lists, spreadsheets, or a wedding planning app, organization is key to managing the many details that go into a wedding.

2. Make it about you and your partner: Add personal touches that represent your love story and your personality. Your wedding should be a reflection of your unique journey together.

3. Don't stress about controlling everything: It's impossible to control every aspect of your wedding day. Embrace flexibility and the idea that some things may not go according to plan. In the end, it's the love and joy that matter most.

4. Don't do everything yourself: Share the workload with friends and family. They are often more than willing to help and contribute, so don't hesitate to lean on them.

5. Remember that even if things don't go exactly as planned, your wedding day will still be beautiful, memorable, and wonderful. It's a celebration of love and commitment, and that's what truly matters.

Witness the love, laughter, and breathtaking moments of South Asian weddings. Come back for more!
