How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met at my store, we had a few common friends but we never spoke/met personally. That was the first time we spoke, exchanged numbers and from that day we had that instant comfort and connection. We did not date each other, as we both were looking for a life partner during that time, so we decided to spend some time together and further decide. Once we were sure about our decision, we told our parents about and they agreed to meet. They met and said YES!

Arlington, VA Indian Fusion Wedding by TLIC Media

Who could think that after meeting in OkCupid, things were going to work out? Lucky for our couple, they were able to keep their eyes open and know where love was. After a year and a half together, they decided to tie the knot and what a celebration that was! So romantic! As we will see in today's film thanks to TLIC Media, both of Jithu & Tyler's backgrounds were represented throughout the gala. The striking and colorful Indian traditions that we all love so much, stole the spotlight the moment Maharani Jithu came out rocking that gorgeous orange sherbet saree. Seriously, Raja Tyler's eyes say it all! Kudos to Styles By Swati - Salon SBS for an amazing hair and makeup work as always! We also know that our couples always want the best for their guests. When you have the catering services of our pals from IndAroma, nothing can go wrong! With a full tummy, it was time to tear the dance floor apart and celebrate the milestone.  Also, if you haven't checked the gorgeous gallery we had on our site just yesterday, you can relive it here! So, ladies, come and celebrate with us by hitting play below and get inspired!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met on OKCupid and after a few messages decided to meet up. He knew I loved beer and suggested we meet at a local dive bar but had no idea that he suggested one of my favorite beer bars!

We saw each other two more times that same week. By the end of the week, we both knew that we weren't interested in seeing other people.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
After almost a year and a half together, Tyler made sure to buy the ring on an auspicious day (generously provided by my mother).

Tyler picked up my parents from Dulles Airport after they returned from a trip to India, and asked my very sleepy parents for their blessing. My parents agreed and promptly fell asleep.

That night, also an auspicious day, Tyler took me to dinner at a fancy French restaurant, where we had a bit too much wine. Eventually, Tyler popped the question while I immediately broke into sobs. After crying through most of his proposal, I said yes!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Venue:
As our guests came from all over the country and from around the world (India, Dubai!). We wanted to give them a very DC experience. We chose Top of the Town for both ceremonies because of the sweeping views of Washington DC. We wanted our day to show great views of DC during the day and have a great rooftop area for the cocktail ceremony and reception.

Hair & Makeup:
I found my HMU team on Instagram and booked them immediately! They worked with me to create a modern Tamil bridal look for the morning complete with a fishtail braid covered in red roses and baby’s breath instead of the traditional jasmine flowers. The look for the Christian ceremony was delicate with nude lips and eyes and was transformed to bright eyes and bright pink lips for the reception.

Design:
We focused on simple overall designs that favored bright colors and atmosphere over more complex scenery. For this reason, we choose a relatively simple mandap (stage) and oonjal (swing) for the Hindu ceremony, and a simple, but classic, greenery backdrop for the Christian ceremony.

Flowers:
Our decor team came through with a wonderful selection of flowers. One of our favorite design elements was the way in which our decorator worked the colorful flowers of the Hindu ceremony into the greenery backdrop of the Christian ceremony and reused them for our centerpieces. It provided great continuity between the ceremonies and helped brighten up the Christian ceremony with just the right amount of color.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
We wanted to wear traditional attire for the Hindu and Christian ceremonies and wanted outfits that reflected us for the reception. We traveled up and down the entire US eastern seaboard and coordinated with family in India for our three outfits.

For the Hindu ceremony, I wanted to wear a traditional red Kanjeepuram silk saree.  With the help of my aunts and grandmother in India, the red saree was purchased from RMKV silks in Chennai over a 5 am WhatsApp call. Additionally, the saree blouse was custom designed and embroidered with Swarovski crystals in a temple bell design.

For the Christian ceremony, I chose a white wedding dress from Amazon after searching through traditional bridal stores and unable to make a final decision. I was drawn to a with lots of tulle and delicate lace details.

For the reception, I wanted a bright colored lehenga and selected a yellow lehenga with hot pink details from Ladlee in Atlanta, GA. Not to be outdone, Tyler got a custom made navy blue three-piece Jodhpuri suit from Om Fashion Boutique in Edison, NJ. We received so many compliments on our reception outfits and cannot wait to wear them again.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Honestly, being done with wedding planning was the best part!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests loved the baraat and enjoyed kicking off our wedding with dancing!

Additionally, we planned two surprise dance performances: one with the bride and her friends and one of the bride and groom dancing to lungi dance. Our guests went nuts when they heard lungi dance come on and were up on their feet with us!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The best part of our wedding was seeing our family and friends having a great time! My favorite story was about one of my best friends, Tyler's brothers, and one of my uncles roaming the hotel halls after getting back from a bar at 2 am and being gently scolded by my mother to go to their rooms. It was hilarious and also one of my favorite parts about weddings - bringing people together.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We imagined our wedding to be warm, traditional but fusion wedding.  Although we are a modern couple, with all the cultural clashes that come with that, it was important to us that both of our families felt comfortable and represented in our wedding.

Our rehearsal dinner followed this theme and was held at the Le Meridien Arlington’s outdoor taco shack, The Yard. We wanted a terrace space that would encourage our families to move around and interact with each other and a taco shack with picnic tables and lots of standing high tops worked perfectly!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
A wedding planner is a must! They are the professionals and have probably seen it all --late vendors, last-minute changes, the ever-changing seating chart! They are a great source of information and great listeners who can guide you through your vision.

Sometimes the details and material items can drive you crazy! Before we got into wedding planning, we wrote down three things we wanted our wedding to be: family, fun, and love. When we were stressing about small details like label placement on envelopes or the design of table toppers, we circled back to the three things we wrote down. It helped ground us and reminded us to focus on the important things.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
We wanted to incorporate our two families by having heirloom pieces be a part of wedding. I wore my mother's diamond earrings and my late grandmother's gold belt for the Hindu ceremony. For the Christian ceremony, I had with me the groom's late grandmother's handkerchief embroidered with our wedding date. This helped us weave our families into our day and made it that much sweeter.

More weds in no time!

Palm Springs, CA Indian Fusion Wedding by Matthew David Studio

Hello, darlings! I'm completely smitten by this adorable fusion wedding just like Nisha was smitten by Paul when they first met! We were lucky to get their wedding album by Matthew David Studio and featured it on our blog, you MUST check it out! And now we have their unique highlight video also by Matthew David Studio! This video really captures the essence of this adorable duo and I'm loving the retro idea, such a precious treasure that I'm sure it will be played many many times! This Desert Sunset themed wedding will surely inspire you and delight you as their guests were by Ronobir Lahiri skilfully playing his sitar, what a dream! Maharani Nisha was a Bohemian-Rajasthani style queen who managed to blend two cultures seamlessly including her mehndi designs by Hinal's Beauty Studio with the help of planning expert Sweet Emilia Jane. Let's join this beautiful couple through their most special moments surrounded by their families!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
After moving to Los Angeles from Toronto, Canada at 30. I moved to a new office and knew very few people in LA. I had always met people through friends in Toronto but in LA, in a new city, I decided to go online!

Of course, I had a very busy job that offers me the benefit of traveling all over the world, so it was hard to actually make time to date.

I finally connected with Paul on Match.com when he messaged me a very genuine, sweet message that I didn’t see until weeks later. He ended up in my junk box! You see, he was out my filters based on age and height. I had wanted someone 32-40, 6’-6’5”.  It turns out Paul was 41 and 6’8”!!

I got an Alert to checked my emails and noticed his message there. Once I read his message I knew that he was different.

Because of the travel, I didn’t end up meeting him until three months later but we had texted and chatted a little bit in between.

When I finally met him on a date and saw him, I was smitten and so was he. I found out he was also a Canadian, both born in Edmonton, Alberta.  We had the same humor, senseability, values, and love of life. I just wanted to be by his side from the moment we met. From that moment on, we were inseparable...

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
After dating for 2 years, buying a house and living together for 1.5 years, we were starting to build a new life in LA with amazing friends and family.

Paul knew I wanted to get married and start our own family we wanted to establish a foundation together.

So every trip and outing we had, I expected him to pop the question, but of course, Paul knows I’m too hard to surprise, so he had to catch me off guard...

One day, Jan 23, 2018, after eating a delicious meal with our friends, we all come and start talking about the importance of family and friends and building our life together, my little nephew, comes around with a ring box, gives it to Paul and he gets in his knee! In our living room, out of the blue!! I was shocked and elated and so happy it was in our home that we built with people we loved.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We wanted our wedding in California. The majority of our friends and family live in Canada and elsewhere, so we wanted to create a warm home away from home and to celebrate in one place for our two-day event.

Palm Springs was one of the places we traveled the most together in our relationships, so we knew the desert was the place to wed.  I love traveling to Rajasthan in India and wanted something to reflect that feel in California.

When we finally found our venue and all the little eclectic influences we knew that the place was it!

We fell in love with The Colony Palms and the idea of having the whole place to ourselves and loved ones to celebrate the occasion.

Indian weddings are not a common thing in Palm Springs so coordinating these details took a lot of time and thought. I wanted to maintain the beauty and the culture of a Hindu wedding but I wanted an aesthetic that fit a more Bohemian, Rajasthani style.

I made sure that our Pundit, Music, Food, Clothing, Entertainment, and overall feel was true to Hindu culture but the wedding planner, photographer were local Californian.

We wanted to honor the fact that we both had different cultures and create a fusion that highlighted our favorite elements.

Since we had a fall November wedding, the colors were peach, coral, burgundy, ivory, pink and gold. The overall theme was Desert Sunset.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Being from Canada, I knew that the best Indian clothes close to me were in Brampton Ontario.  Luckily I go back-and-forth to Toronto quite a bit for work and I was able to browse lots of boutiques with my mom before I found the right one.

I’ve always loved Bombay Trendz they have a very high-end fashion with reasonable prices and can do customization. I’m taller and their lenghas always fit my body perfectly.

I found both my henna and bridal Lengha there, as well as Paul’s wedding Shirwani. Because I have a creative job at work buying furniture my favorite part of the process was picking the colors and reconfiguring how I wanted it to look and fit in our theme and blend together for the events.

I wanted to make sure the wedding was full of vibrant color but I also didn’t want the traditional red because of our desert backdrop, so I opted for soft peaches, burgundy, and ivory.

I was most inspired by Varun Bahl and Anita Dongres high waisted skirts, tight floral embroidery and contrasting soft palettes.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Planning the outfits, the decor, and the rickshaw!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The guests loved all the details and the intimacy of the venue. The highlight was definitely our entertainment including Paul’s Band Hiway 2 playing at the Henna night, Ronobir Lahiri playing the Sitar at our cocktail event and The Belly Twins at the reception.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The most special moment was sitting under the ceremonial mandap with our Pandit, both our families staring at our loved ones knowing that our lives were bonded. Seeing both our families and cultures unite in this way was beautiful and felt meaningful and progressive.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Henna party included a fusion of California, Canada, and Gujarat with Mexican food for dinner, Henna, Garba, Dandia Raas in the evening ended off by a stellar performance by Paul’s Canadiana Rock band, Hiway 2.This was an introduction and collaboration for everyone to participate in both Hindu & Canadian celebration!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Have a vision for the day and make sure you have the right people supporting you, so you can be calm and relaxed through the process. I planned most of the wedding details alone in the first four months but leaned on my amazing Bridesmaids, my Mom and wedding planner six months before the final day.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Other than details given by wedding planner:

A lot of details and guest favors were ordered through my favorite store in Rajasthan, Anokhi.

The details of the block print were reflected in handkerchiefs and table napkins.

The jewelry was passed down through the family were ordered through India.

Bridesmaids outfits were from Priti Sahni.

Bicycle rickshaw ordered through Classic Home and fixed and decorated by our bridesmaids & groomsmen!

Happy Monday!
