Columbus, OH Indian Wedding by Photosaga

Happy Tuesday, Maharanis! The week is just starting and we never stop! Today we have yet another accurate representation of what Indian weddings are all about! Vinaya & Karthik decided to the knot with all the style in the world, but also, paying homage to the traditions they hold so dearly. The Bridgewater Banquet and Conference Center was the venue of choice for both ceremony and reception and we know what you are thinking! A fantastic choice, to say the least! What was also fantastic was Maharani Vinaya's fashion sense and multitasking abilities. Seriously, it is not that often that we have a bride that handles her own hair and makeup and all the decor choices! This gorgeous lady is truly a Maharani for the books! The newlyweds also wanted the best of the best for their guests. In order to do that, they recruited the fine talent of DJ Mavi Productions who brought a playlist with all the latest Bollywood hits and modern tunes! So, ladies, you can't miss this love-fueled jubilee coming to us thanks to Photosaga! Let's get to it!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met through our mutual friend while doing rotations in our third year of medical school. The attraction was there from the very start when first met at the dinner at our friend's place. He always says how he couldn't make eye contact with me because I was too pretty... We got to know each other in the hospital though, talking in the hallways, eating lunch together. Then we slowly realized we were seeing each other without our other friends. The attraction is basic and not difficult to find. My comfort, and a feeling of home, away from home, that feeling is hard to find and that's what we found in each other.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
We did a traditional proposal at our engagement event in front of our closest family and friends in Canada with a traditional Hindu pooja.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We both worked tight schedules and it so happened that we both were only "free" in March, so as much as I never dreamt of a winter wedding, a winter wedding is what we had with a huge storm two days prior to our big day. We picked Columbus Ohio (my husband's home town) as the wedding location since we got to have the engagement in my home town, in Canada. The venue choice was mainly based on the fact that they let us cater food from outside, as most venues within the area restricted bringing outside catered food into the venue. I decided to suit the season of winter, I would light pastels for a brighter warmer feel for our ceremony with creams and peaches and then for the night reception I choose a bold dark maroon and cream for a romantic feeling.  Hair and makeup I did myself as I dislike the feeling of wearing pounds of makeup and feeling un-like myself. I stayed true to myself and worse makeup to accentuate my existing features and kept the looks simple and wispy.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I wanted to keep my outfits very traditional with minor changes in the cuts. For my first saree, I wore a beautiful traditional red with gold detailing saree. And as I'm Malayalee and we normally wear cream silk sarees for the ceremony, for my second wedding outfit in which the mangalsutra was tied, I wore a traditional cream silk saree with the traditional Indian red trim and blouse. My husband wore the traditional dhoti. And for the reception, he wore a dark navy suit while I wore a dark cream/gold lengha with a pink shaal.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Planning was actually very hard to do seeing as my husband and I work almost 80 hours each, however, having our parents very involved and helping with the planning made it more enjoyable.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
They loved how traditional the ceremony was. Although it was long, the traditions performed were appreciated by most as most weddings these days no longer include such details.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
I walking down the stage during the wedding ceremony; my husband's face was covered and I wasn't able to see him as a sheet was held before him and I had all my best girlfriends and my sister walk in front of me. It was an emotional time to finally live the moment we waited for 4 years.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We had my haldi celebration at the Airbnb my family and I stayed at. We kept that simple with some decorations from a department store and some prayer items from my mom's prayer room from our home. The sangeet/mehndi night we again kept simple and rented out a room in a nearby Indian restaurant.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Not everything will go right on your wedding day, but that doesn't matter because at the end of the day you get to be married to your (hopefully) best friend.

Amazing wasn't it?

Ready, set, action!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We matched on the Dil Mil dating app and talked for two months before finally deciding to meet in person in Chicago. He was in residency in St. Louis and I was in medical school in Detroit, so that was a good halfway point for us. We had talked on the phone and FaceTimed several times before meeting in person so it felt like I already knew him. We toured the city and eventually ended up sitting by the lakeshore talking about our lives, our goals, and our feelings. Honestly, I think I knew then that he was the one. I knew this was something special.

More to the filminess of our first date can be found on our wedding website :)

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
The wedding planning process is without a doubt a very stressful experience, but it was completely worth it. We did not hire a wedding planner because my family and I love planning events and we wanted to go about this our own way. We searched for vendors in both the Chicago and Detroit areas because the wedding was in my hometown Kalamazoo which is halfway between the two. Now as I look back, I couldn't have asked for anyone better. Everything was perfect and exactly the way I dreamed/wanted it to be.

Our venue coordinators at the Radisson (Lindsay and Sam) were PHENOMENAL from the day we booked the Radisson Plaza Hotel until the very end. They didn't have much experience with Indian weddings, but we were excited and willing to learn. We met several times to go over details and timelines and they didn't miss a thing. They were so key in keeping all the events running smoothly.

For hair and makeup, Karishma Mehta of Makeup By Karishma was also a dream come true. I shared pictures and Pinterest posts of the looks I was going for, and she nailed it. Each event was totally unique and totally perfect. At first, I struggled with an Indian vs non-Indian makeup artist due to costs. In the end, I am glad I chose Karishma because she was able to set my jewelry and do my draping without much additional instruction, allowing my mother, sister, and other family members to also get ready in a timely fashion.

Last but certainly not the least, we had the BEST DJ in the industry. DJ Mixta (Micky Singh of Singh Innovations) served as our DJ and MC. We met several times over the course of the planning process to go over timing, entrances, intros, and song selections. He was our personal hype man and to this day our guests RAVE about his charisma and his energy. He worked closely with our venue coordinators to ensure things were running in a timely fashion.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I definitely wanted a more traditional red and gold look for the wedding. Red is such a bold color and just screams bridal, and I couldn't imagine getting married in anything else. I spent one day in Rajouri Gardens in Delhi, trying on different styles and designs, but nothing clicked. I eventually ended up at CTC mall which was recommended by a friend. Their selection was unbelievable. My bridal lehenga happened to be the last one I tried on at the end of the night, right as the store was closing. When they draped it on me and I twirled around, I didn't need to look any further. I just knew I had found the right one.

On the other hand, searching for my reception gown turned out to be more difficult that I imagined. I searched high and low through Delhi and Vadodara trying to find the perfect dress. I had always envisioned a "Starry Night" themed reception and wanted a dress to match. Ideally, it would be navy blue and silver. But with the color trends these days, that was almost impossible to find. After days and days, and dresses on dresses, I finally arrived at Sequinze. The shopkeepers were determined to make my dream come true and pulled out their very best. The gown I chose fit me perfectly. It was silver and sparkly, and could perfectly complement a navy blue backdrop. They paired it with silver jewelry set from their store, and I felt like a princess.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I'm a total filmy Bollywood girl at heart. I absolutely loved picking songs with special meanings for each part of every event and our DJ was key in playing them at the right times. I also loved choreographing some of the dance performances! Danced with my bridesmaids at the sangeet, choreographed the first dance with my husband, and put together a fun skit/dance for the bridal party to perform at the reception.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The DJ's constant energy and enthusiasm pumping up the crowd for performances, entrances, and the open dance floor.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
I have so many more thoughts and ideas, but it is impossible to share them all here. I would be happy to answer any specific questions by phone or email.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)

Bensalem, PA Indian Fusion Wedding by Raj Photo Video

Hey there, glam loving Maharanis! It is Friday and to kick start the party we have a gorgeous featured film that is all things glamorous. I tell you that! The Westin Princeton at Forrestal Village was absolutely at its very best to house the celebrations of Aditi & Peter. It had to be like that; we know that Maharanis want only the best of the best for their nuptials. Keeping that in mind during the recruitment process, our newlyweds received the assistance of Aishas Wedding Decor, who decorated the venue and the lovely path to the aisle of these two lovebirds. Just look at those floral arrangements! Truly a decor to die for! But, and most importantly, the princess of the night, Maharani Aditi was what I call a real Indian princess. Her fashion choices and styles were out of this world. That also thanks to Looks by Jassi who assisted with hair & makeup and the saree draping & styling. Seriously, you can't go bigger than this! Want a closer glimpse of this dazzling jubilee? Check out the fabulous images, and get charmed by this cute pair thanks to Raj Photo VideoHit play below and see you on the dance floor!

Garden Grove, CA Indian Wedding by Reel Initiative

Welcome, ladies, to a real-life fairy tale wedding! A couple of months ago, we had Nirvi & Neil's gorgeous picture gallery by Gary Cohelo Photography. It totally left us sighing so if you miss it, you can relieve it here! Today, we have the enchanting film of everything that went on at the Hyatt Regency Orange County, beautifully planned and design by none other than Best Dream Weddings by Vanessa Doménech. The gala was this sophisticated and colorful flair that truly showcased what Indian weddings are all about. Dances, family and lots of fun were just some of the ingredients of this union. Of course, Maharani Nirvi had to be just glowing for a day of such importance. Dolled up by Lulu made her presence known and assisted the bride with her impeccable hair and makeup. So talented! And if that wasn't enough, the reception party couldn't have been this ode to style if it wasn't for the team from 3D Sounds who brought the house down with all the Bollywood and western beats that surely did put a smile on everyone's faces. So, ladies hit play and enjoy the amazing visual work from the team of Reel Initiative.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met Neil in Orange County, CA when he was in town for his cousin's wedding. I knew he was the one when all his actions showed me he cared for others more than himself, he would make sure everyone else was happy including my friends and family, and when he always made sure I had hot cheetoes in the kitchen cabinet!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Neil proposed in Cancun, Mexico at one of our destination trips together as a dating couple. It was a complete surprise. He ended up flying my best friends and family to NYC after we arrived back from the trip for more surprised filled events that entire weekend. He definitely planned it out to a T.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
It was over a year of research, but I was incredibly happy with my vendors. I am so happy they put together our pastel color palette, our unique NYC vs LA city theme and really made sure our personal touches were there!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I knew I wanted to do a non-traditional color that still exemplified the simplicity, forward fashion, and style. I knew my bridal lengha was the one when my dad said it was.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The food, the reception LED video wall and the overall hospitality.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Our first dance was a skit that was unique to us. We incorporated it with different songs and sayings.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
It all works out in the end, don't stress too much!

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Here is my video clip summary if you would like to share it or gain better insight into the details. My mehndi pic has been submitted, it was a unique story of our LA vs NYC long-distance relationship and how we used credit card miles to fly to see each other! Chase even gifted us with a personal card and gift!

My jewelry was handpicked, real gold, and gifted to me by my mother and mother in law. I was so fortunate to wear heirloom pieces that meant a lot.

More glam and glitter yet to come!
