Another perfect match Maharanis! This time, Making the Moment Photography brings us the best of Shelly and Kiran’s big Indian wedding with an insanely beautiful same day edit film! Before taking the plunge, the sweethearts threw a series of vibrant events in which the Sangeet night was the most exciting of all with traditional songs, food, and colorful dresses. The exclusive Hyatt Regency Louisville welcomed the newlyweds with upscale amenities and provided one of their best halls to host the much-anticipated ceremony. The soul of the festivities arrived and lovely Shelly reincarnated an Indian princess with the magic touch of Bellesadivina by Gayatri. The beauty team helped the gorgeous bride by draping her stunning red lehenga and creating a superb hair and makeup look for her ceremony and upcoming reception. As the festivities drew to a close, Opening Minds Entertainment gave the right vibe with their energetic music to create the high spirited ambiance that reigned all night long! Check out the inspiring feature film below!
How did you meet your Raja and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met early on in medical school and have never stopped laughing since then. I knew he was the one when he made everything more enjoyable, including the most stressful times of school.
Do you have a super romantic proposal story or engagement memory?
Kiran proposed to me in the Barbados which was something I would never expect. He took me for a surprise vacation during our second year of residency and proposed on the island. When we returned home I was greeted by all of our families and friends and a surprise engagement party!
Tell us about your wedding style. When you sat down to really figure out how your dream wedding would look, did you start with one central color, a palette of colors, or a theme that served as your inspiration?
I love cherry blossoms, so I knew I had to have those at my reception. We wanted to stick to a blue color theme like the ocean and trees that matches the natural beauty I admire. Our wedding mandap was a sweet blush & mint green which really went well with our beautiful trees.
What did you enjoy most about the process of planning your dream Indian wedding?
The most fun was the food tasting, traveling to multiple cities to shop with my mom, dancing after so many years, and making so many memories with all of our family who helped tremendously!
How did you choose your lengha or lenghas? Did you work with a certain designer? Did you spend hours on the internet first?
I found all of my wedding clothes here in America due to limited time in residency. I loved Bombay Bridal in Jackson Heights, New York. I also loved Indian Couture & Miss India in Edison, New Jersey. Enjoyed shopping at Ziva Bridal in Chicago, IL for some other events as well! I knew for my wedding lengha I was going to red and I always wanted a gold contrasted chunney, which Miss India specially made for me.
Looking back, was there a really special moment that you remember from your wedding that stands out as the most magical?
Walking down the aisle with my brother, Cohin.
Did you and your Raja have a special song that you danced to as your first dance? How did you choose it?
Yes! Our names Shelly & Kiran put together was our hashtag #SheKira so we started our first dance with Meant To Be by Florida-Georgia line and transitioned into Hips Don’t like by Shakira! We took salsa lessons and it was a blast!
How about hair and makeup? Did you already have a style in mind or did you work with a specialist to find your perfect look?
I worked with Gayatri Kalia, we talked for months and exchanged tons of ideas. I wore flowers in my hair for every event except the reception. She really made everything so easy for me and made me feel so confident in how I looked!
Did family or friends help out with certain special details that really added to the event?
Yes, my massi group in Louisville, KY is amazing and was there for me throughout the wedding week. I had multiple events that were all amazing, I felt like the entire community of Louisville was so helpful and excited for us! I had tons of India make it to the states for the first time which was an unforgettable memory for all of us.
Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Mehndi was done by bella henna, based in Cincinnati, OH. I highly recommend her to anyone who loves intricate designs. She is very talented with very symmetrical & delicate designs.
The venue was the Hyatt Regency who was an amazing partner throughout this process. They welcomed each of us with gifts in our rooms and valet services included.
Happy Monday, dolls! Make sure to check out Shelly & Kiran's wedding photos in our blog by Making the Moment Photography!
