How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
The first time Viral and I met was at a mutual friend's engagement. Although we did not keep in touch then, we happened to see each other again while on a family trip to Charleston, SC and stayed in touch after. We talked for several months and finally met up for an "official" date while I was in South Carolina for work. Viral is a genuinely sweet guy and after seeing him interact with my family and friends I knew I could see him as my husband.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Although I initially had a vision for what I wanted the wedding to be in terms of style and themes, I quickly realized I would need a ton of help putting all my ideas together due to the size of our wedding. Our wedding was truly a labor of love. My parents and siblings were paramount in helping me come up with unique ideas and the rest of my family and friends were there to help execution process. A family member had worked with KI Weddings and I was able to see first hand how helpful it was to have a planning company to help everything come together seamlessly. All of our vendors were incredible to work with and made my dream wedding a reality.
I wanted my family to all compliment each other and match. For the men I made sure that their outfits went well with the ladies in my family which also matched mine. For example, for the satak we all wore green, and it turned out really nice, and we got a lot of compliments about it.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I was lucky enough to be able to go to India twice last year in order to shop for the wedding. Unfortunately, I did not have any luck finding my "dream" lengha at any shop with ready made clothing. My cousin recommended a design studio that she had used for her own wedding and I decided to give it a shot. It worked out perfectly because I was able to choose the fabric, color, pattern and dupatta to my exact specifications.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I loved planning the details the most. Our Welcome Party was a Bollywood theme so I had old Bollywood movie posters personalized to have our families' faces printed on them and the Groom's table had a custom Bollywood movie printed tablecloth along with bottles of Thumbs Up, Limca and fresh sugarcane juice. For our Reception, we had an aerialist performing during cocktail hour and we had someone to do caricatures of our guests. It was so much fun to come up with these particulars and watching them come to life on the day of.
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
I have done a lot of Bollywood dances growing up, and one in particular that I did at a competition saath samundar. I still have the outfit I wore and my niece actually wore that outfit and did the exact same dance as me. The thing that made it even more special was the actual dance I performed was playing in the screen behind her.
Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
For the ceremony, I knew I always wanted to use a blush pink color scheme. Pink was my late maternal grandmother's favorite color(her name was also Gulab!). I also wore some of her jewelry on the wedding day and incorporated photos of her and my paternal grandparents into my bouquet. It was so important to me to be able to honor them and include them in one of the biggest days of my life.
