Perry Hall, Maryland Sikh Wedding by Virdee Films Photo-Video

Happy Wednesday, Maharanis! Are you ready to revisit one of the love stories that we loved the most? We know you are! So, let's not wait anymore and enjoy this cinematographic delight captured by Virdee Films Production. Manjeet & Harman's wedding celebration already featured in this awesome gallery, and we all loved it so much as it was a breath of fresh air during the most crucial times of the ongoing pandemic. Back in January, Maharani Manjeet planned her wedding down to the smallest detail. However, the emergence of COVID-19 called for an unexpected change of plans. Two weekends before Manjeet & Harman's, the lockdown started, and this lovely couple had two options. They could postpone the wedding until a later unknown date or make the best of an unfortunate situation and celebrate their love with an intimate wedding celebration. Thankfully, they chose the second option, and oh boy, they had a wedding to remember! Instead of postponing the wedding date, they moved it one week ahead of what they had initially planned and united their lives in marriage through an intimate ceremony hosted at the Perry Hall - Maryland. And we know that planning a wedding ceremony is not easy, let alone under the current conditions they were facing. However, RJ Best Events took the challenge and orchestrated a magical wedding that everyone loved! All of this, while still managing to comply with the safety measurements regarding social distancing. How amazing is that! Our lovely  Maharani looked drop-dead gorgeous on her big day thanks to Glow By Herneet, who took care of her beauty needs. And we were dying to share today's film with all of you as it is a celebration of love and proof that love can face all sorts of challenges and still prevail. So, make sure to click the play icon below and get ready to enjoy it. We're sure it is going to take your breath away!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
He added me on IG 2 years prior but never messaged me. Finally 2 years later he messaged me on Instagram and we finally met each other a few months after messaging/talking on the phone. After getting to know each other, we discovered so many similarities between us amd our family. I slowly fell for him without knowing it, so when he popped the question, it was a no brainer for me.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
We were talking on the phone and he just asked me slickly, in the middle of a conversation, after I realized what he asked me, I of course said yes!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I was avoiding planning the wedding for a month and a half but I would stress about not having it done. One Saturday morning in January I sat down and called and booked decorators, MUA, film/video, DJ. I met the DJ and videographer/photographer at the Dulhan Expo in NJ in December 2019 so that made it a little easier. Just as I thought I was in the home stretch, COVID-19 had other plans for our wedding! 2 weekends before we were supposed to get married (3/28/2020), we had to make the decision to postpone until a later unknown date, or we could make the best of an unfortunate situation. We decided to move the wedding up to 3/21/2020- one week ahead, and move the venue to my parents house. I ended up planning the whole wedding again, in 3 hours!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I always wanted our clothes to stand out- not be the typical red for the bride, and ivory for the groom. I had my magenta salwar kameez made from Punjab from a boutique. And I pushed my husband to wear a blue sherwani, which was also made in Punjab, India.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The best part was meeting the vendors! I am a very sociable person, so I loved the interactions between my family and the vendors. And although I had to make numerous phone calls to each vendor to change the plans, it was an enjoyable experience!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The 60 guests we were allowed to have at our house (gathering limitations in place due to COVID19) loved the traditional feel they got from our wedding. They loved the simplicity yet elegance of having a wedding within our own home.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The very first time I saw my husband which was when I walked down the aisle for the jai mala ceremony. Everything else is a blur!

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
The bridesmaids had a dance planned, which unfortunately they couldn't perform due to the restrictions in place, I only had one of my bridesmaids at the wedding. We had to make a lot of the decor ourself as the big decorations weren't able to fit in our house, they were meant for our banquet hall.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
You can plan and plan and plan, but stuff always comes up (maybe not as big as a pandemic virus). Instead of focusing on how to get what you planned, always have a back up plan and be optimistic. Sometimes last minute plans are the best!

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
My mehndi lady was choosen a few months ahead of time and she was absolutely pleasant- Shazia in Gaithersburg, MD. Decorations were done by RJ best events in Towson, MD. My MUA was a family friend, and none other than GlowbyHerneet.

We hope you've loved today's film as much as we did. If you want to check more inspiring love stories, make sure to join us tomorrow!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Harsh and I met at Quinnipiac University during a South Asian Society meeting. My favorite part of how we met is that we really just started as friends, he was my best friend for while before we recognized how we felt about each other. To date, he is the one person I can always count on and knows exactly how to talk me through any situation (even when I was freaking out about wedding planning). I suppose I knew he was the one when I felt comfortable being my weirdo self around him. That comfort level is everything.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Harsh and I had done long distance for a few years so we always met at the same spot in Hoboken every Friday after work. Those were the best Fridays, we'd grab food, get some dessert, and then just sit by the water and watch the beautiful city skyline. So, when Harsh proposed, we were watching the same city skyline right before grabbing a bite to eat. Unfortunately, it was December and negative eleven degrees. But, fortunately, there wasn't a single person in sight and we had that perfect little moment all to ourselves. Afterwards, we grabbed a bite to eat at our favorite pizza place in Hoboken, Grimaldi's, and then went to my house where our whole family was waiting to celebrate with us.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I started with the big things like venues, catering, photography/videography, and decor first. Then moved into DJ, hair/makeup, mehndi, and outfits. I did a ton of research, followed a lot of different vendors on Instagram to get a feel of their work, and really made sure I knew the market/pricing. I had schedules for each day, informed my vendors and family of those schedules, and had every detail planned out of the events. Honestly, it was all so so worth it. I was shocked we stayed on schedule and that we were even able to enjoy the food at our own wedding! I really trusted the vendors we chose, they produced great quality work and were very efficient so my overall experience was really great. Everyone was so great about timing and about doing everything they could to make our wedding as special as possible. Would highly recommend all of the vendors we selected.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Our wedding was in the Fall so I really wanted to embrace some Fall colors. So, I chose maroon and blush pink for the wedding outfit, mustard yellow for the Sangeet, and mauve for the reception. I LOVED all of my outfits. I had zero time to go to India for them so I followed a lot of different vendors on Instagram and that's where I found Walia Jones. They made it SO easy for me and my outfits were custom made so beautifully thanks to them. I had a vision and they helped bring it to life. They completed the outfits and shipped everything very quickly so I definitely appreciated that. In general, I knew what I wanted, the style, the colors, and looked through a ton of pictures to customize the outfits how I wanted them. Loved my experience with Walia Jones and would highly recommend!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
To be truthful, I didn't enjoy the planning. It was stressful, tedious, and took up every weekend until the day of the wedding. However, the actual wedding weekend, I was the most relaxed I had been in months because all that planning and stress was finally paying off. My favorite part was starting the events and watching everyone enjoy something I knew I put a lot of work into. Other than that, the food tasting hands down was my other favorite part lol, Chand Palace did an excellent job with the taste and presentation. Very easy to work with them and they make some quality food.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The outdoor scenery at Brooklake Country Club. I think our guests took as many pictures outside in front of the golf course as we did. That view is so breathtaking and the day of the wedding was cloudy but the temperature was perfect. Since it was cloudy, our pictures came out perfect. Other than that, I think they enjoyed the food and DJ a lot.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
One thing I really wanted to make sure was special and done well was my mehndi. I wanted a certain symbol incorporated in it because it's something that means a lot to both me and Harsh. When Harsh and I first started dating, he gave me a necklace with a dopamine molecule and it was my favorite gift from him because I felt that he truly understood how much I love nerdy things like that. I love that I was able to incorporate the dopamine molecule into my mehndi. It was something we shared years ago and Mehndikalogie was able to make it part of my wedding day - it meant a lot!

If you want to enjoy more films as amazing as this one, make sure to join us tomorrow!

The long-awaited day arrived, and everything was just as our lovebirds dreamed about. She made the right choice by trusting all of her beauty needs to Color Impressions by Saba. So don't think twice and hit the play icon below to start enjoy it!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met Mohammad ("Mo") while I was doing my Master's program in Boston. He moved there for work. I was trying to be more social at the mosque, so I decided to go out with a group of people for bowling. Mo was working late that night, but one of his friends (who planned the bowling night) convinced Mo take a break and join us. That's the first night we met and hung out together.

When we met, it was an instant spark. As I got to know Mo as friends, I saw a lot of signs that pointed towards him being "the one". We got along really well, shared many of the same values and ideals in life, which for me was a rare find, and we supported each other with our goals and ambitions. There wasn't really one specific moment where I knew - I think there were lots of mini moments that confirmed that we were meant to be together through the course of our relationship.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
We both come from a traditional family! So there was no proposal. We had a very traditional engagement ceremony with our family and friends, complete with the ring exchange, dinner, and dancing.

He did surprise me with the most amazing date night, with dinner at the same place as our very first date, a walk through our favorite neighborhood, and dropping down on one knee to ask me to marry him.....A MONTH BEFORE our wedding. I guess all the hints I dropped about wanting to be proposed to post-engagement really worked.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Wedding planning was stressful because I was planning a 3 day wedding in Atlanta from Boston, but I started very early. I secured the venue, decorator, photo/videographer and caterer 10-11 months before the date. I relied mostly on word of mouth - vendors I knew have done an exceptional job in the past. I looked through Instagram and Facebook to see their work as well. I had a list of priorities where I knew I couldn't compromise on: food was a big one. At a desi wedding, the only thing that your guests care about is food. Photo/video was another priority because that's all that would be left to look at once the big day was over.

I will say, if I had to plan my wedding all over again, I would not change a single vendor. They were all so amazing to work with and they were truly amazing people that I got to know during that year of planning.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Most girls have a vision of how they want their dress to look like years and years in advance. I just knew I wanted my dress to be the traditional red. I had a few ideas (long top, skirt) but I was very open to other ideas. I traveled to Pakistan for my wedding shopping and relied on word of mouth about which designer would be the best one for me. The first (and only) place we went to was PLK (they're super well known in Pakistan), and that's where I got every single outfit designed (from scratch) for myself. Because I didn't have any specific idea or vision for the dress, I was able to mix and match designs, fabrics, shades of color, and styles for every inch of my wedding dress.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
THE FOOD. To this day, we have family and friends talk about how AMAZING food was at our wedding. I'm so glad I went with Asma's Cuisine. They catered my engagement dinner and I knew that day that they would be the only ones that would cater my wedding.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We had a very traditional 3 day desi wedding. The first day was mehndi, second was pithi/haldi + sangeet, and the third day was Nikkah in the morning with a reception in the evening.

I didn't have too many ideas for my decor, with the exception of the backdrop for sangeet and reception. Yasmin Khan of RoyalDekors really helped bring out my creative and visionary side and added her own experience and input to come up with decor that would look unique and beautiful for each event.

The dances at the sangeet were another favorite moment. Mo and my friends and our cousins did a 45 minute sequence of dances and a skit that portrayed our love story. We had a cousins/siblings dance for both sides, a girls dance, a guys dance, and a ShoMo dance followed by the skit.

Reception was quick because I really wanted to have a large amount of time dedicated to open dance floor. After our entrance, we had our first dance, cake cutting, speeches, and then we played the shoe game - you know, the one where we sit back to back holding one of each other's shoes as we get asked questions about each other - followed by dinner and dancing.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Start planning early. Us girls have a very specific vision of how we want our wedding to be for years and years. And if that is the case with you, it is best to start planning well in advance to secure your vendors who can make your dream wedding a reality. Come up with a list of things that you do not want to compromise on (for me, it was food and photo/video) and set your budget accordingly. I also think it's so important to try and take your wedding day one moment at a time. The day really flies by fast so enjoy it as much as you can!

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
My makeup and hair was done by Saba Jawed of Color Impressions by Saba. She was so great to work with. Because I didn't have a clear vision for each look, she really worked with me to figure out how to make each look for every event beautiful and unique. She made me look and feel like a Maharani bride.

My mehndi was done by Nikki Karimi from Beauty you Deserve and I LOVED her work. I really wanted mehndi that was very intricate and that's exactly what she did.

I also decided to get fresh flower gajray bracelets made for my sangeet night. Gardlands by Yasmin did that and I think she also did an amazing job. I showed her the color of my outfit and she made beautiful bracelets to match my outfit.

My cake was made by Nausheen Amir of Inspirations Unlimited. I asked her to incorporate my bridal lengha designs into the cake and she did just that. The cake looked spectacular and really complimented by bridal lengha.

We hope you enjoyed today's post, so make sure to visit us back on Monday! We have more for you.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I planned my wedding in a short-period of time (6 months.) So when I was planning I had to move quickly, I had been following my wedding vendors on instagram for sometime and as soon as a date was set I started getting quotes and finagling everything as quick as I could.

My wedding planning experience was overall very fun and hectic. I planned my wedding in under 6 months, after realizing the venue we had chosen only had that date, and nothing else for the next year or so! I had a great support system helping me plan. My vendors were amazing!! Especially my photographer & videographer. I had been following Ayesha on Instagram for a while and contacted her immediately after setting a date. Finding my videographer was a little harder, I was a little hesitant at first because he wasn’t “known” in the desi community but he did such an amazing job!!

Planning the decor was fun but a lot didn’t go in we plan. I fell in love with my stage after seeing it at another wedding on Instagram once so I insisted on using the same florist that did the same stage, but the experience was not as good as she missed many details we had gone over. Looking back she was the only vendor I wouldn’t recommend.

My hair & makeup were done by the same vendor! She was so nice and sweet. I had gone to her for a trial, my bridal shower makeup, & mehndi makeup as well. This was a great decision because by my wedding she was comfortable with my face and knew what worked for me and what didnt!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I had a wedding dress disaster!!! I ordered a dress from Pakistan originally,  but when it arrived it wasn’t what was advertised. So me and my mom got in a car the next day and drove to canada to find a dress. I went to a few stores, but I bought the dress that I first tried on. I loved the unique color, and the detailing.

My whole life I had planned that I would go to Pakistan to go dress shopping, but with the little amount of time that I had and because of budget restrictions, I chose to order my dress online. BIG MISTAKEEEEE. It was not what I expected, and after seeing it I knew I couldn’t wear it. Two days later me and my mom drove to Canada to visit bridal boutiques. That’s where I found my dress, it was the first dress I tried on. I always wanted to wear maroon, but once I saw my cranberry dress, I fell in love.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
For me the process of planning out the small details was the funnest!! I loved scrolling through my Pinterest/IG feed looking at everyone else’s wedding.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests loved our dessert table! It was so nicely put together & not to mention gorgeous. Our vendor mixed traditional desi desserts onto the table and I loved it! We also had a fresh jalebi maker in the kitchen!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
A really special moment for me was when my mom was helping me get ready! I loved hearing our siblings speeches.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
My Mehndi was super colorful and fun! I ordered the dance floor cover from Pakistan, and loved all the color and detail on it. I made the canopy I walked in under, and I made the Shai Supari Wall For our Mehndi, me and my Husband learned our dance in the car after our photoshoot!!! We probably looked like idiots in front of everyone but we had fun.  Me, my mom, my dad built our shahi supari backdrop as well as the canopy I walked in under.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Don’t stress & don’t over think it. Everything will work out. No ones even going to notice the small things you think are important. The venue completely messed up on my choice of linens and I didn’t even realize until I was looking at my wedding pictures.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Everything turned out great!!! My mehndi was done by a local mehndi artist!! A fun fact is she was the first person other than my mom to ever do my mehndi.

My jewelry was mix and matched between a local jewelry vendor and a vendor from Canada.

My cake was gorgeous & I loved it so much. I’m glad I decided to showcase it on my wedding stage.

What a fabulous wedding celebration! Don't forget to join us tomorrow for more!
