Cancun, Mexico Destination Indian Wedding by Weddingnama

We’re thrilled to share Dipti and Rikin’s jubilant reception gala in sunny Cancun! We’re swooning over the breezy ceremony setup at the Grand Oasis Cancun Resort by the design aficionados from Dipti Munshi and Latin Asia Destination Wedding Decor. We so wish we’d gotten an invite to this lux, beachy gala. We’re obsessing over the red and orange parasols and red mandap dotting the white beach side ceremony space. The sweet and emotional ceremony featured sunny skies, splashing waves, and the most delightful Indian bridal fashions. So gorg! After the lovebirds were pronounced husband and wife, everyone was raring to get the bangin’ reception party started! Guests chowed down on tropical bites and creamy desserts by Taste of India Cancun as a majestic sunset drenched the evening. While planning an international getaway can be daunting, Dipti Munshi and Oweddings helped the couple every step of the way for this sensational bash. As darkness fell, DJ Omar Figueroa Bautista played the latest and greatest Bollywood hits and set the dance floor on fire! The grand finale included dazzling sparklers that were the perfect symbol of Dipti and Rikin’s fiery and beautiful love story. Hurry over to watch this wedding clip by WeddingNama to catch all the loving moments between this gorg duo at their tropical paradise wedding! And scroll below for all the inside scoop by the bride herself.

Welcome Party / Game Night:

Our wedding weekend kicked off with an informal “bienvenidos fiesta” or welcome party. This event took place on a terrace garden surrounded by a beautiful coy fish pond. Since most of our guests had just arrived that day, we wanted to give everyone a chance to meet and greet. That evening, we handed out personalized welcome bags. It consisted of a welcome packet - a thank you message, itinerary for the weekend, map of the resort highlighted with where the events are going to take place, and helpful spanish phrases. It also had a few essential items, a handy hangover kit, and customized ladkewale/ladkiwale tshirts. We asked all our guests to wear these t-shirts to the game night which took place later that night to represent their respective side. This was the perfect icebreaker between both sides as everyone got super competitive and super comfortable with each other. Obviously, the ladkiwale team won by a landslide.

Haldi / Pool Party:

The haldi was a cute little informal ceremony held on the infinity deck with a breathtaking view of the beach. We asked our guests to be dressed in yellow which made for incredibly vibrant pictures. After the haldi, all the aunties and uncles stripped down to their bathing suits and jumped in the pool and we all spent the afternoon getting wild at the pool party.

Sangeet:

The sangeet was held poolside and was Bollywood themed. It had a laid back set up with white lounge furniture but very pop-art, colorful, and kitsch décor. We included the poolside cabanas as part of the seating arrangement so our guests could laze whilst watching the performances. The décor included vibrant pillows, kites, pinwheels, Chinese lanterns, neon parrots that Rikin and I spent countless hours cutting and gluing together (he still hates me for that). We lit up the surrounding palm trees with bright and multicolored up-lights and fairy lights. The highlight was the Bollywood photobooth backdrop that we created ourselves. Our guests really enjoyed posing in front of the unique backdrop with fun props that included lots of Bollywood dialogues. On one of our first dates, we watched the Bollywood movie Andaaz Apna Apna and since then it’s been a staple in our relationship. We pretty much watch the movie every month and frequently talk to each other in dialogues from the movie. Because of our obsession with the movie, we knew it had to be a part of our wedding. We created props with dialogues from the movie and used them as fun centerpieces and photobooth props as well. “Gogo ji, aapka ghagra” was my favorite! The evening comprised of jaw-dropping surprise performances by our guests. More than half of the guests that attended, put up a choreographed performance. Instead of doing speeches, our friends and cousins gave a “roast” of the bride and groom, sharing hilarious mishaps and jokes about us. My sister and bridesmaids put together an amazing skit about the couple that was made solely from Bollywood dialogues that had all the guests in splits. The performances were followed by countless tequila shots and an open dance floor. Our playlist that night was all bollywood with mostly our favorite 90s dhinchak music.

Wedding:

As the 1.2km of Cancun’s ocean and white sand beach have a magnificent beauty of its own, it was important for us to keep the wedding décor simple yet elegant. Our color theme was pink, peach and red with white flowers which looked striking against the turquoise water in the background. We knew it was going to be a hot day so we had to think of creative ways to keep our guests cool. We gave everyone bright parasol umbrellas that matched our color scheme. In addition to providing kulfis, ice slushies, and coconut water, we also gave personal fans that attached to your phone - these were quite a hit.

The groom entered in style on a jet ski and then danced down the beach with his baraat. The bridesmaids and groomsmen entered the mandap to a choreographed performance of “abhi toh party shuru hui hai”. We had a hindu wedding ceremony which was perfectly condensed to under an hour.

Reception:

Our reception was on the beach as well. There was a storm coming that night so the calm before the storm brought by an incredible breeze and you could tell the weather gods were smiling down on us. Our decor was an all white dream. Our goal was the create a classy and romantic setting. We choose white tiffany chairs, white chair sashes, white linens, white backdrop, white victorian sweetheart sofa, white bird cages, and white flowers with some peach and blush pink accents. We lit up the place with hundreds of candles and had multiple ornate free standing chandeliers marking the isle and surrounding the periphery of the venue. Our table placement cards were very unique. The evening started on a fun note as we put all our guests pictures with their table numbers in a tequila shot so they had to ‘take a shot, and take a seat’.

Words from the Bride:

Right after Rikin and I danced down the aisle as we entered the reception, my dad came up to us, gave us a hug and said “Look at what you have created, it’s incredible”. I couldn’t help hold back my tears. Seeing how beautiful the reception looked and how our years worth of hard work had culminated to this one, perfect night, was the highlight of the whole weekend.

Our first dance was choreographed by one of our best friends. It was quite a production as she had the task to teach us how to dance with our two left feet! We started with a waltz to “Aaj jaane ki zid na karo” which is easily my all time favorite song and paired it perfectly with fireworks. It went on to “Rukmini Rukmini” at the groom’s insistence which was rather scandalous but hilarious. We ended it with the Friends theme song “I’ll be there for you”, which is a daily staple in our life. This was followed by very emotional speeches by our parents, sisters and best friends that brought both of us to tears. After that each and every one of our guest got up and performed in a surprise flash mob to “Tujhko banakar ke le jayenge, badri ki dulhaniya” which was so amazing! Right towards the end of the night, we had a few minutes of rain which was such a blessing. The music stopped for a few minutes and all the guests embraced the drizzle and continued to sing in tandem and danced along till the music restarted. After the reception was over, everyone migrated to the nightclub in the resort and continued the party till five in the morning. After a while the night club DJ and the local crowd embraced our craziness and started playing Bollywood music. It was simply incredible - from what the two sober people remember since everyone else was entirely wasted.

Have a wonderful Thursday Maharanis!

Cancun, Mexico Destination Indian Wedding by Elevate Creations

We simultaneously felt relaxed and energized after watching the beautiful Cancun wedding film of Reepa and Shiv created by Elevate Creations! The festivities were jam packed and totally out of this world, from the LED accessorized dancers to the aerial artists to the fire dancing troupe. It was so heartwarming to see the couple and their guests throw all their worries to the wind and rock out during this epic beach side extravaganza. Envi Event Planning did a fantastic job planning the wedding, and all events flowed seamlessly. Though the beach side vibe was relaxed, the couple went full glam with their bridal looks! We’re such a fan of Maharani Reepa’s sleek updo and dewy makeup by Styling Trio, and loved how her red and lehenga popped so beautifully against the crystal clear water and white sands. Shivani then slipped into an angelic, beaded ombre lehenga for her reception extravaganza decorated by Latin Asia Destination Wedding Decor, and guests had the time of their lives dancing to banging beats and chowing down on incredible eats by Taj Mahal Cancun and Hard Rock Hotel Cancun. And everyone was awestruck by the magical fireworks display that ended the night with a literal bang. Hit play to watch this epic film, and if you want more beachy goodness, check out the full gallery by Peter Nguyen Photography, or scroll below for our full interview with Reepa. We loved learning all about this warm, loving duo and the behind the scenes action from this incredible celebration!

Description of the Day

Shiv and I had everything but a conventional relationship. If you let him tell you the story of how we met, then he would say that he was a man with smooth moves and had me from the second he sent me a message on Facebook. However, if you let me tell you the truth, he was nothing short of a creepy guy on Facebook trying to sweet talk me. Nonetheless, he won. I married the guy! And I must say, it was the best decision I have ever made.

Shiv and I had one goal for our wedding, to make it epic! So we decided to go to Cancun and have a destination wedding! Why Cancun? Well, why not Cancun? It’s a short flight from Atlanta, it has breathtaking beaches and it’s CANCUN!

We wanted to pick the perfect place, an all-inclusive resort where guests would feel like they were truly pampered and to give them a once in a lifetime experience, but most importantly for them to feel like they weren’t at just another Indian wedding. Thus, we found Hard Rock Cancun!

The best part about a destination wedding is the relaxing environment.I can honestly say that our stress level was very minimal. Shiv and I would wake up and almost every morning we would go get a massage, walk the beach, and have breakfast with whatever friends and family were around. One of my favorite things about my wedding was that all of our guests were in one spot. Any and everywhere I looked I was surrounded by loved ones.

Our wedding weekend began with a private VIP check-in that was set up with food and drinks just for our guests to enjoy followed by a welcome dinner on the Breeze Terrace that evening. The next day we had our Garba night indoors, inside the ballroom. Yes. That’s right. A destination wedding and I had an event indoors. But trust me, the guests appreciated an event indoors. We had a little surprise planned for our guests. As they entered the ballroom they were greeted by aerialists that were suspended from the ceiling, serving them drinks. Towards the end of Garba, we had a water drums show where my guests were able to engage and come up to play with the drums after the show was over. This was fun for the kids and adults alike!

Friday was the official wedding ceremony which took place on the south side of the beach; it was simple but elegant. The biggest surprise for our guests at this event was when Shiv and his groomsmen made a grand entrance via Jet Skis! Yes, one of the scariest moments of my life… having the man I am about to marry jet ski through the waves trying to get to the mandap. But as he approached the shore, DJ Hiren had the music blasting. Raman and Sahib had the dhols beating and the guests were dancing and cheering Shiv on. After the wedding, all of the guests retired to change their clothes and met us at Ipanema which is the nightclub located inside of Hard Rock. We were able to get DJ Hiren on the turntables and we danced all night. It was basically the pre-reception to our reception the next day.

Now for the reception. This was the last official wedding event and we had to make it one to remember. We had a cocktail hour followed by a fire dancing show before our guests were seated for the reception. This fireshow was amazing! My last surprise was not only for my guests but also for my now husband. During our first dance I was able to coordinate with Hard Rock to have fireworks go off over the ocean at just the right time. Shiv was completely surprised and my plan was executed perfectly!

Once the reception was over, the dholis escorted us and the entire wedding party from the rooftop terrace to all throughout the hotel and back to Ipanema. We had the entire hotel dancing to the instrumental performance by Raman and Sahib.

Throughout our entire wedding weekend Nadira and Elvia ensured that nothing went wrong and if it did, I to this day have not heard about it. Peter Nguyen, Stephen Renney and their teams made sure they caught every single moment, even if that meant they had to jump into the ocean fully clothed with all of their equipment. DJ Hiren, Raman and Sahib along with Johnathan and his team with Drums of Paradise gave us that wow-factor we wanted to make our wedding epic. Saku and her team did an amazing job decorating all of my events, indoor and out! Last but not least, the entire team at Styling Trio came out to make me, my bridesmaids, my family and my groom and groomsmen beautified for the events and did an amazing job. Yes, the groom and groomsmen had their hair and makeup done too.

All in all with the help of our family, friends and vendors, Shiv and I successfully executed our epic destination wedding!

Thanks so much for sharing Reepa!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!

Vinit had been planning our proposal for a VERY long time (as we were together for 7 years!!). It was supposed to be a girls weekend in Chicago, my home town. Vinit said he was going to go to New York the same weekend. Turns out, he was in Chicago as well! We were going to "brunch", but ended up stopping to take pictures along the lake, which looks towards the Chicago skyline. When we went to take pictures by the water, Vinit was standing there with flowers and a ring. We took pictures for a while and ended up by all of the boats. Vinit had booked a yacht for a few hours, and EVERYONE was there from all over the country (about 50 people). After that, they planned a dinner at one of the first restaurants Vinit and I had ever gone to in Chicago. It was absolutely one of the BEST weekends ever.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?

I wanted to sway away from the "all red" lengha for the wedding. I still wanted to be traditional, so I decided to have more white in the outfit. For the reception, I wanted to stick with the peacock theme, so I chose purple and gold for my outfit.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?

Most of the guests were from New York and Chicago. They absolutely loved that they got to make the wedding into a beach vacation. Most guests said our wedding was very unique, since a lot of it was held by the water.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?

There were two really special moments during the wedding. The first was when I surprised Vinit with a dance during the sangeet. The look on his face was priceless!! The second was during the reception. There was a surprise dance for me! My sister had put together a dance with ALL of our friends from all across the country to "sunshine in my pocket". Vinit was in the dance as well.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.

We wanted the Sangeet night to be a relaxing vibe. We had couches with pillows on the sand for our guests to lounge. The whole Sangeet was VERY colorful. The event was held outside, so the sunset was absolutely beautiful. For the reception, we had a peacock colored theme. Everything was mostly green, blue and purple.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?

Enjoy the planning process! I know it can be stressful at times, but go according to your own style. Also, let your hubby to be have some insight on choosing a few things! They'll feel appreciated.

Excuse us while we hit replay! Such a beautiful wedding film.

Costa Rica Indian Wedding by Jonathan Yonkers

We instantly felt refreshed after watching the beautiful Costa Rican wedding film of Shivani and Nikesh by Jonathan Yonkers! The festivities were jam packed and totally creative, beginning with a Lip Sync battle between Shivani and Nikesh. It was so much fun to see the couple rock out to their favorite songs and a perfect way for guests to let loose and get to know each other! Four Nineteen Weddings did a fantastic job helping to plan the wedding, and all events flowed seamlessly! Though the beachside vibe was relaxed, the couple went full glam with their bridal looks! We’re such a fan of Maharani Shivani’s half up bouffant and dewy makeup by Kashish by Hina, and loved how her red and green lehenga popped so beautifully against the crystal clear water! Shivani then slipped into an angelic white gown for her reception extravaganza decorated by Eventos Boadicea, and guests had the time of their lives dancing (and participating in an perfectly executed Mannequin challenge) to music by WDJCR while waves crashed in the background. Hit play to watch this epic film, and if you want more beachy goodness, head into the full gallery by Jonathan Yonkers! And make sure to scroll below for our full interview with Shivani! We loved learning all about this jet setting duo and the behind the scenes action from the main Maharani herself!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!

Well, this may be obvious due to the decision to have a destination wedding but the both of us LOVE to travel. The summer after our college graduation we both decided that it would be the perfect time to go backpacking through Europe before we joined the adult/working world. We spent our time falling in love with places like Venice, Berne, London, Cinque Terre, Dublin, and more but it was Paris that Nikesh decided to propose in! On the 6th day in Paris after spending days falling in love with the city we decided to go back to the Eiffel tower one last night. At exactly 1 AM (when the Eiffel tower lights up at night) he turned to me and told me that the last few days had been the most amazing adventure and the best time ever. He had hoped that we could live the rest of our lives with that sense of adventure and love – and of course, I completed lost it and said YES!!!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?

I actually traveled to Mumbai in December of 2015 with my parents, little brother, and grandfather to go shopping for the wedding! I knew that I wanted two things with the outfit that I chose for the wedding day: I wanted it to simple (not too heavy since it was going to be an outdoor beach wedding) and I wanted it to be something that would fit my “Costa Rica/Nature” theme! I have the most amazing family in the whole world – they literally spent three weeks going around Mumbai and looking for the outfits of my dream! At the end we stumbled upon a small boutique and that is where I found the outfit. I instantly loved the colors – I knew I wanted to have red on the outfit but I thought that the bottle green color was super perfect for Costa Rica! The minute I tried on the outfit I knew it was what I had been looking for!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?

I think that they loved how intimate it was. Over the entire three day wedding, we actually had the time to hang out and talk to our family and friends that made it out to Costa Rica. Not to mention, I think many of them were able to take advantage of being in Costa Rica and traveling around the country both before and after the event! What Nikesh and I didn’t want was a three day wedding that was super hectic and went by in a blur. Having our wedding in a country whose motto is “Pura Vida” really helped everyone be on a sort of “Island time” and just overall relaxed!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?

On the weekend of our wedding a hurricane was actually expected to touch down in Costa Rica! However, literally every day/event was perfect and the rain never bothered us at all. The most perfect moment was on Saturday morning before the wedding ceremony. It was pouring rain ALL early morning and we really thought that we might have to move everything indoors. However, my dad and his best friend refused and said we were going to have the wedding outside rain or shine because that is what Nikesh and I had wanted (tents and all!). An hour before the ceremony started, the skies literally cleared up, the sun came out, and everything seemed like it had never been touched by rain.

As I walked down the aisle with my mama (and then my dad) the waves, the beach, my future husband waiting for me at the mandap, and everything surrounding us literally looked like a dream and it was the most perfect ceremony that Nikesh and I could have asked for. At that moment, I knew I was the luckiest girl!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?

My biggest piece of advice is to TRY to go with the flow on the weekend of the wedding. I learned that having a wedding (and especially) a destination wedding means that things will not always go the way you planned – and this should be totally 100% okay. At the end of the weekend, it wasn’t the flowers that were selected for the centerpieces or the lights hanging on the trees that I was looking at/appreciating. It was the 120 family & friends that had flown all the way to Costa Rica to be with us and my future husband that I wanted to spend all my time & energy focusing on!! In a way, having a destination wedding can really help you achieve this!

So gorgeous right? We're ready for a beach vacay! See you all tomorrow!

Newport Beach, CA Indian Wedding by Aaroneye Photography

This sunny Newport Beach wedding of Payal and Amam was jam-packed with action, captured in an incredible film by Aaroneye Photography. Pre-wedding celebrations included a talent-filled sangeet, with the highlight being Payal dancing gracefully for her adoring future hubby! The Marigold Company helmed the planning and design duties, and seamlessly executed the numerous events. The ceremony day began with a bang, featuring a little token from the Dark Knight himself, as Amam led his baraat in a Batmobile. The photos by Greycard Photography of the groom in his larger-than-life mode of transportation made for some classic portraits! Amam couldn’t have made a cooler entrance, and the baraat music by 3D Sounds pumped excitement into the crowd, which only heightened as the ceremony began. The pristine grounds of the Newport Beach Marriott were dotted with palm trees, and the cerulean and white drapings on the elegant mandap swayed gently in the ocean breeze. The beautiful bride was primped and polished to perfection with hair and makeup by Dolled Up by Lulu and a vibrant red and cream lehenga. The natural light outside lit the bride and groom perfectly, and the traditional ceremony was meaningful and went off without a hitch! Afterwards, the quick-on-their-feet newlyweds couldn’t wait to get the party started! Payal and Amam’s reception was pure elegance, featuring a gilded wall of flickering candles and pink-hued florals designed by Kumba Entertainment. Guests were on their feet the entire event, cheering on all the incredible performances! When 3D Sounds hit the DJ booth, the party leveled up even more, with guests dancing to their hearts’ delight and taking breaks to take silly pics in the photo booth by A Little Scene! Check out the video below for all the action!

Beautiful wasn't it? We'll catch you tomorrow with another fabulous wedding video!
