How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Ishant and I have been childhood friends since the age of 12-13 y/o. He would always come around me and try to flirt but I usually ended up letting it go. At some point in our relationship as we grew older, we became best friends. He was always head over heels for me and I recall I didn't have anyone to take to my senior prom so of course, I asked him. Well, the next day he decided to ask me out. By this time he had already asked me a few times and I kept saying no. However, this time I figured why not? It was then we officially marked the start of our journey at 18 years old and here we are still together, stronger than ever 10 years later!

I knew it was about time to move on to the next chapter in our life - if you know what I mean. We had already planned around what age we wanted to be engaged. I remember getting so anxious for him to make the next move. One day he decided to take me to a work gala in NYC. We got into the city a bit earlier than expected so, therefore, decided to take selfies, stroll the streets of NYC, grab a quick bite and go to happy hour. He started receiving continuous texts from his co-workers, so we decided to wrap it up and head to Skylark - where the event was being held. I kept looking over at his phone thinking someone I know may have had texted him, signaling that today is the big day since I was already dressed up but unfortunately no luck. It was also a Thursday so it couldn't have worked out, right? We get to our location and he provides the gentleman at the entrance with his work information so they could let us in and they did. I quickly ran to the bathroom to freshen up for the event. An employee of the place there was kind enough to show us our way to the rooftop area. The weather was perfect and there was a fun crowd awaiting our arrival. The city lights looked gorgeous from up top and the view of the Empire State Building was breathtaking - surprisingly the color of it that night- purple, matched my dress. I turned the corner to get to our seating area when I realized what was happening- this was the perfect set up! The walkway was lit up with candles and a beautiful heart was made out of red rose petals. I immediately started crying and before I knew it I saw him get down on one knee that night to ask me to marry him and without a doubt, I said yes!
I looked over my shoulder to realize that all of our friends and family were witnessing this happening while blending in with the rest of the crowd. Also, I later learned that he made sure we had a view of the Empire State Building because he was able to have them change the color of the building to match my dress- yes, I was shocked! Ishant wanted us to shine brighter than ever and everyone there that night to witness it.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Planning was not as bad as I thought, said no one ever! Ishant, my now husband, honestly planned majority of the wedding. We are a very relaxed couple and therefore we handle each other very well under stressful conditions. I had found my makeup artist and hairstylist 2 years in advance when they worked on me for a friends wedding. Being a designer on the side, I was able to make most of my outfits which was a lot of fun because I was able to play with colors, designs, and patterns to create my vision.
The venue we chose was Hilton Parsippany which was great because not only could it hold the number of guests we had but they were able to make last minute accommodations to the best of their abilities.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Cultural values and upbringing matter a lot to me and my husband. With that being said I always knew I wanted a traditional red lengha for the wedding and that's what I chose. I had designed in 1.5 years in advance to my wedding. It had touches of green and copper gold with peach.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning process had to be when both families came together repetitively to plan for the wedding from invitation labels to seating arrangements. It created memories and a bond that is unforgettable.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The guests truly enjoyed our outfits along with our performances/ speeches and food.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The anticipation in the cocktail area before making our entrance for the first time as husband and wife. We are excited to see what the world has in store for us and blessed to have one another by each others side from forever ago.
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
I grew up as a dancer and dancing runs in my family. Our families knew how much it meant to the both of us to have performances. We had a dance battle that both families performed to at the garba which was a surprise to the both of us! The guests were really enjoying it and stated it was a new idea that they had never seemed before but loved the old school Hindi dance off songs chosen.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Marriage is not just a bond between 2 people but a relationship between 2 families. Even though this gets said frequently its important to embrace each others love throughout the good times and the bad. It will only make your relationship stronger and oh yes, breathe... you ladies will be just fine!
Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
My handsome husband picked the cake which was lavender with an ombre effect and pearl design- exactly something I would've wanted.
