Vienna, Austria Fusion Indian Wedding by Sergio Mazurini

I am so honored to bring you this beautiful destination fusion wedding straight out from the 2017 Maharani Weddings Magazine pages! A magnificent setting for a magnificent wedding! We are whisking you away to the capital of Austria, a seriously beautiful city for a destination wedding celebration. And yes, here is where Aditi and Jeff joined their lives. The couple initiated their wedding journey with a fantastic Sangeet night at the Kunsthistoriches Museum followed by a traditional Indian ceremony at the exclusive ambiance of the Stadtpalais Liechtenstein, in the heart of Vienna. With such an amazing venue there is no need for a big décor, the ethereal yet chic ceremony mandap created by Doll Blumen, is the best example of this affirmation. Our pair shared their wedding festivities with a group of privileged guests that observed the gorgeous union, among them was the talented Sergio Mazurini, who produced a breathtaking footage for the couple to enjoy and look back on over the years. Following the Indian union was the western nuptials where Maharani Aditi glowed in a white wedding gown and Jeff patiently waited for her in a well-tailored black suit that also matched his large entourage outfits! Manuela Princic orchestrated and planned this classy love story that seems endless! Following the religious unions, the most anticipated event took place at the Garden Palace of the Palais Liechtenstein where Planet DJ Productions fueled the party with the best beats until dawn! Remember to stop by the best photo selections of this destination affair in our previous feature in our main blog! With that being said, scroll down and hit play to watch this utterly romantic film by Sergio Mazurini!

I can't wait to share more beautiful images with you, Maharanis!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?

I met Jeff through my brother, Anish. They were really close friends at UMich and Jeff ended up being one of the groomsmen at my brother's wedding. While me and Jeff always knew each other, it wasn't really a close relationship by any means. It was around the time of my brother's wedding (back in 2013) that Jeff and I started really hanging out. It wasn't anything serious, but he'd come visit NYC often, and our friendship really grew from that. In December 2013, It was a fateful weekend trip to Vegas, where his group of friends and my group of friends partied together, and Jeff and I became more than just friends.
I knew Jeff was the one during a friends trip to Miami for Ultra weekend. It was totally innocuous but we were all at a pool party and just watching the way Jeff took care of me and my friends and everyone around him made me realize how lucky and happy I was. I then proceed to slip out an “I love you” in conversation with him, which I then immediately took back in a panic. It’s an insane moment when you realize that this is it.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
The proposal story was a little wild! Jeff dropped a surprise trip to Amsterdam, my absolute favorite city. I was a little taken aback by the random trip, and I even asked my mom if she thought this could be a possible proposal. It was her answer that really took me off the trail. “Well if he’s proposing that’s news to me. He better talk to your father and me before he proposes!” At that point I thought, there’s no way Jeff is proposing, he knows better than to not ask for my parents’ permission.
The plan was for me to fly to Brussels and meet Jeff at the airport (as he had arrived the night before), eat some of our favorite Belgian Frites, and then drive straight to Amsterdam. I took a nighttime flight there and landed in the morning. I was a complete wreck from the travel and we decided to take a quick nap. It was after we freshened up and packed up, Jeff asked me to grab our passports from the safe cause he couldn’t get it to open. Thinking nothing of it, I went to go grab our passports. I crouched down and opened the safe and I jumped back. Inside was his phone flashing a light on the most beautiful engagement ring. I almost thought it was a mistake that I saw this. But I turned around and Jeff was right behind me and asked me “Well…” and I looked back at the ring and saw a hand-drawn picture (Roger the alien from American Dad) that said, “Let’s Just Do It!!!!!!”
The surprises didn’t end there. I found out, after calling my parents, that they’ve been WAITING for our phone call and of course they knew. Jeff has talked to them a few months back. They were absolutely thrilled. However, the craziest news of all came back from NYC, my niece, Arya, had been born the same exact day. It was the absolute best day of my life. When we finally got to Amsterdam, we opened the door to our Airbnb and inside were my two best friends, Kerri and Michelle, waiting for me. Jeff had flown them out for the weekend. I don’t deserve him.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Planning this wedding wasn’t easy but we had really great help — our parents, friends, and family. Jeff and I had gone on a trip to Vienna the January before our wedding to pick out our venues. We wanted our venues to reflect the beauty and grandeur of Vienna. Every single place we saw was more beautiful than the last. We chose the Liechtenstein Palaces (City and Garden) for our Indian ceremony and reception. We had a vision of Jeff and his Baraat dancing (with our dhal player) through the streets of Vienna. It did not disappoint. One of my favorite events at any Indian wedding is the Sangeet. Something about the culture, the dancing, the colors and music. So when we first walked into the Kunshtistoriches Art Museum, I was completely blown away. I just knew that I had to hold our Sangeet there. Our Christian ceremony ended up being a last minute venue-switch. After learning that we actually had way more guests coming to our wedding than we originally ever thought (this was the best discovery of all time), we had to find a new venue. We found an opening at the Kursalon, literally a month before our wedding and jumped on it. It was incredible. A beautiful music venue which worked out perfectly for us because Jeff’s mother (a talented musician) played the piano for us during the ceremony.
Our decor was really kept as low-key as possible. The venues themselves were so incredibly ornate and beautiful that we were lucky enough to not have to do much with them. We kept our flowers local and besides having a mandap built from scratch, there wasn’t much we had to worry about by ways of decor. However, one thing we did splurge on was a massive screen at our reception. We wanted to play music videos during our reception and make it feel like a massive rave. It was pretty awesome.
Hair and makeup was beyond easy. I’m not too picky when it comes to my personal appearance, but I did have my makeup and hair person in mind for years. Dharti had done my sister in law, Tania’s, hair and makeup for her wedding and we’ve been in touch ever since. I wanted someone who not only knew how to do makeup and hair really well, but also had a personality that went well with mine. She calmed me down and made me feel like a princess.
For us though, it was having Ateet and his team there that really made the wedding special for us. We’ve known him for years and I’ve known forever that he just HAD to be the DJ at our wedding. His team is no nonsense, smart, dependable and they know how to throw a banger. His team kept our reception going until after 4am. It was the party to end all parties.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Instagram. I was on Instagram trolling through outfit and designer and whatnot. I knew I wanted something very traditional for my Indian ceremony, but at the same time, I wanted something really different and modern for our sangeet. My reception outfit was so intricately designed and the silhouette was exactly what I was looking for. I went to India before my wedding to check out all the shops in Mumbai and I ended up working with my mom’s cousin, Shruthi Sheth. She’s an incredible designer and she made sure that she would deliver the exact type of outfits I was looking for. My Sangeet outfit came from Jade. My Christian ceremony white dress came from BHLDN. It was a cool bodysuit and skirt combo. It was lightweight and fit in with our venue. Did I have a favorite color in mind? No. I mostly just wanted my reception outfit to be different from all my guests.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The best party about wedding planning was going to Vienna with Jeff. Although it was a really quick weekend trip and I had to get back to the office the following Monday, we had such a good time frolicking through Vienna and really discovering all the possibilities for our wedding. We were still a the early stages of wedding planning so we didn’t feel as under the gun so we ended up having a blast. A little mini-vacation before all the craziness would begin.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
We think our guests just really loved being in Vienna. They all took advantage of traveling all the way out there and a bunch of them made vacations out of it. Or maybe it was a massive bottle of Belvedere we had passed around during our reception. You never know!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
It was during our first event, the Christian ceremony. When I started walking down the aisle and I made eye contact with my mom. Tears streaming down her eyes. It just really hit me that this was actually happening. It was really emotional.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
I performed a special dance for everyone at my Sangeet. I mixed it myself but it had a good mix of Bollywood songs and EDM. It was something that I had worked for months on and was really proud of. We were really lucky to have my mother and her friends perform a dance for us, Bollywood and garba-style. Jeff's friends and groomsmen did a dance. My friends and family and bridal party all participated in their own dance. We all had such a good time.
My uncle, Anop Vora, performed our Jain ceremony. It wasn’t something he had ever done in the past but he brought so much heart into it and I’m just so thrilled he was able to do that for us.
We had bottle service at our reception. We’re pretty proud about that. We may have almost killed our guests with that little feature.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
As crazy as you get during your wedding planning, just remember that the wedding isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning. Make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons and that you and your fiancé are equally putting in work for it. It helps to share the burden.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Jeff was on a horse and carriage during his Baraat, complete with a police escort while they all danced through the streets of Vienna to Liechtenstein City Palais.
We got our cake from the famed Demel Bakery. It was a three tiered cake, with our initials on it.
Jewelry was all curated from my mom, Jayshree, prior to the wedding. She's got an eye for good jewelry. I picked up a lot of my wedding ceremony accessories in Mumbai, during my trip shopping for clothes.
We brought Bianca (@hennabybianca) to put mendhi on all our guests during our Sangeet. She also assisted Dharti to help support on hair and makeup for my bridal party.

Cancun, Mexico Destination Sikh Wedding by Fine Arts Studio

Welcome to paradise Maharanis! Nikki and Ashish had the wedding weekend of their dreams in front of the crystal waters and white-sands beach of Cancun, Mexico! Our newlyweds gathered their closest loved ones at the fabulous Villas Del Palmar Cancun, where they chose to host all of their wedding events. The first step to become husband and wife comprised a beautiful haldi ritual in front of the ocean that took place before an energetic Sangeet celebration night, also overlooking the ocean! Maharani Nikki, followed not only fashion but also tradition, wearing a swoon-worthy coral lehenga with a blue choli with heavy embroidery for her big day! Luckily, Monga Sangha traveled all the way to Cancun to make sure our Bride looked extraordinary for each event! The solemn ceremony was flawless and super intimate. Every tear and laugh of the nuptials was filmed by the destination wedding cinematographer Fine Arts Studio, who helped the couple make tons of memories. Getting married internationally can be stressful, nevertheless this exotic elopement was carefully planned and designed by KP Style Events who were on top of everything and made the entire weekend run smoothly! The magical soiree was full of white florals and tasteful adornments. I’m so obsessed with the elephant topiaries provided by Euforia! Total inspiration. For his first night as a married man, groom Ashish wore a well-tailored black tux jacket and black trousers that made him shine at the dance floor! After raising their  glasses, all guests danced thanks to Encore Entertainment, who rocked the party along with a fantastic saxophonist, Rivera Sax, who gave the night a special feeling. Hasten to watch the amazing compilation of this Cancun Wedding!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
It all started with two swipes right and an app called Dil Mil.

People say that love usually finds you when you're least expecting it and that was the case for us.  Both of us downloaded Dil Mil (an Indian dating app) hoping to find that special someone, but at the same time, neither of us had high hopes.  Little did we know that downloading the app on our phones would change our lives for the better.

It was December of 2015 and after a lot of swiping right and left, we both matched.  Nikki was in Seattle, Washington and Ashish was in Fayetteville, North Carolina.  After finding out where the other person was located, Nikki was a skeptic and didn't think the distance would work, but Ashish being persistent insisted we continue talking and see where things go.  After less than four weeks of texting back and forth, talking on the phone, and video chatting, Ashish made the decision to fly out to Seattle and we met in person.  We were both full of excitement, nervousness, and doubt for our first meeting, but the minute we saw each other at the airport, we both knew we made the right choice.  Our first date went better than we could have expected, we got along great and conversation was effortless.   By the end of Ashish's trip, we both knew that we wanted to continue this journey together.

After a year of flying back and forth, across the country to be with each other, Ashish proposed to Nikki in December 2016 in Seattle.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
My husband and I both knew we wanted to do a destination wedding and celebrate with just our close friends and family so we started the search for a resort.  We wanted something that was big enough to accommodate our guests and events, but also small enough so that everyone was together and could get to know each other and not be spread out throughout the resort.  We found Villa Del Palmar in Cancun and loved the venue.  Having all the guests and events in one place made things so much more convenient for our guests.  The wedding coordinators at the resort were super helpful and we were able to plan the majority of our wedding communicating with them while still in the US.  My hair and makeup artist, Mona Sangha from Vancouver gave me different looks for each of my events and helped to bring my vision together.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I went shopping with an open mind for my bridal lengha but knew I didn't want anything red and was more looking for pinks and corals.  I tried on outfit after outfit before deciding to do a custom piece.  I took inspiration from 3 different outfits that I tried on and we sketched out my wedding piece.  My husband's outfit was a blue atchkin with gold throughout so I decided to go with the blue for my top and the coral for the bottom.  The outfit turned out beautifully and was exactly what I envisioned.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning process was doing our first site visit.  We booked our resort and planned the majority of our wedding without seeing the resort in person.  Two months before the wedding we did a site visit and were relieved that not only did the pictures online reflect the resort, but that the resort was even more beautiful in person.  During this trip, we walked the grounds and saw where each of our events would take place which made everything even more real for us.  We also did the cake tasting during that trip so I was pretty content to say the least :)

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think the guests loved that the resort was smaller and guests from both sides were able to mingle and get to know each other easier.  By the end of the weekend, everyone knew everyone and had had some conversation with each person which isn't an easy feat for an indian wedding of any size!  I know I definitely enjoyed seeing both families really interact and get to know each other and creating the feeling of one family.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
The Sangeet was held on the beach and was a pretty traditional setup with lots of colors.  There were multiple friend and family dance performances from both sides, and I even did a dance.

I love elephants so we decided to go with an elephant themed reception.  My husband even surprised me with two large elephants on the sides of the stage which I loved and was NOT expecting (Still not sure how he pulled it off without me knowing)!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Try not to stress about every little detail on your wedding day and really enjoy every minute of it.  You, your partner, families and friends have all spent thousands of hours planning for this day and it will be over before you know it.  So just have fun and celebrate your marriage and the start of a new chapter in your lives!

Have a good one, loves! Don't forget to keep hunting for more wedding inspiration!

Mississauga, Ontario Indian Fusion Wedding by Film Style Weddings

I always feel inspired about couples who incorporate and blend both families’ faiths and heritages. Interfaith marriages can be a little complex to plan, but Suman and Sunny masterfully planned a beautiful Sikh and Hindu fusion wedding with the help of Pam Litt from N.Trin.Zik who worked alongside with super talented vendors such as Diamond Décor who created a unique floral and décor concept for each event, guests will never forget! This Ontario couple started off their pre-wedding events at Caterina's Palace, with a vibrant sangeet that celebrated the coming together of the two families. The couple’s first blissful union was a Sikh ceremony held at the Baba Budha Ji Gurdwara followed by an elegant Hindu wedding ceremony at The Grand Olympia. Film Style Weddings created an unbelievable footage that captured both unforgettable ceremonies from beginning to end. Maharani Suman breath-taking look was perfectly executed by beauty expert Reet Khara and Groom Sunny exuded elegance and style in his special day, that is what I call wedding inspiration! After Suman and Sunny honored their religious identities, this duo headed towards the splendorous Versailles Convention Center where they delighted their guests with old fashioned cocktails, jazz music and a cirque-du-soleil inspired show! After everyone danced and cheered the night away, the newlyweds made their guests even happier with some delicious late-night snacks that helped friends and family to keep partying all night long. Maharanis, accommodate in your seat, hit play and see for yourself all the color, traditions and love of this wonderful Indian fusion wedding film by Film Style Weddings!

Riviera Maya, Mexico Indian Fusion Wedding by Dean Sanderson Weddings

Happy Valentine’s Day Maharanis! On this wonderful holiday, we’ve brought you an extra special wedding film filled with hearts, roses, and an adorable couple. Khomarie and Saieid’s wedding feature compelled us to pause multiple times while viewing, in order to take a closer look at each lovely moment captured by Dean Sanderson Photography. The effort this couple put into blending various elements of their diverse Hindu and Muslim backgrounds clearly showed. The combination of the rich traditions, picturesque locale, and plenty of glitter and glam resulted in one sensational soiree! A clear highlight was definitely Khomarie’s bridal outfits, featuring oodles of sparkling details and accessorized with layers of royal jewels. Bridal Rang by Samiha dolled Khomarie up for each of her events, and she looked absolutely ethereal throughout the proceedings. After traditional Hindu and Muslim ceremonies, the couple and their guests were all set to party the night away at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya. We were head over heels for the gold draping and abundance of luminous lighting created by Latin Asia. It was truly the perfect mix of elegant, chic, and modern. Please click play to watch the magical moments from this elegant fete!

Saieid and I went to Orlando, Florida for our good friends' wedding weekend. We decided to extend our stay and make a little mini vacation out of our time away. I am a Disney fanatic, so there was no way we were going to Florida and not visiting Disney World. Beforehand Saieid planned out an itinerary including Universal Studios and Disney and I was so excited! We spent a fun filled day in Magic Kingdom and right before we left he insisted that we take some selfies next to Cinderella's castle. We took our selfies and out of nowhere Saieid got on one knee, I was so surprised, excited and speechless. It was indeed a "fairy tale " proposal in the most magical place in the world.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.

When people hear "destination wedding" they think oh it must be easy. Planning a traditional Indian wedding away from home was very hard but very doable. Hard Rock was very accommodating to everything I needed. But unlike most weddings planned away I had 3 ceremonies and a reception; so it required a lot of attention. I made sure to go through every single last detail several times and ended up traveling with 14 suitcases to make sure we had every element needed to perform a traditional Indian wedding.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?

Choosing my outfits were one of the hardest things I did in planning! I wanted to be different but its hard to be different when your following traditions. Finding a different red lengha and a different white dress was a challenge. For my reception dress, I just couldn't decide whether to get a fitted dress or a princess dress. I always imagined having a big poofy dress but I also loved the way a fitted dress looked. So i got both! The dress I wore was by YSA Makino and came fitted with a princess overlay skirt. So I got the best of both worlds.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?

For many of my guests this was the first time they were attending a destination wedding so they didn't know what to expect. I tried my best to keep the entire wedding traditional even though it was away from home. We had 160 + guest attend our wedding and they were all so thrilled with the experience. I think people loved the fact that they were on a vacation and attending a wedding at the same time. Everyone was so relaxed, didn't have to worry about driving anywhere, cooking or cleaning. Just came to entirely unwind and attend a wedding.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?

Prior brides used to tell me all the time, enjoy planning because when it's done you're going to miss it. My advice to future brides to be is... enjoy planning because when its done you're going to miss it! While planning, I thought how in the world could you miss something this hard!? But the truth is it should be enjoyable and when it's all done all you have to look back on is memories and you also will never know what to do with all the extra time you'll have! Soak every moment in, focus on you and your fiance and making yourself happy. Don't stress too much about being " different." Indeed everyone has their own unique ways on doing things but it's extremely hard to be different when a standard traditional wedding asks of certain colors, themes and ideas. HAVE FUN!

Have a wonderful Valentine's Day Maharanis! Make sure to read up on our Platinum Guide Feature today, where we've highlighted a sensational 50th anniversary party!

Hauppauge, New York Wedding by KSD Weddings

Welcome back, beautiful Maharanis! Viewing the tear-jerking wedding video by KSD Weddings made us believe that soulmates exist. Suman & Kristof met in graduate school back in 2008. They happened to be the perfect match and one day Kristof proposed after a multi-course fancy dinner at a high-end restaurant in San Francisco. Their wedding video begins by zooming in on tons of glittery details, such as a beautiful statue of Ganesha, stunning jewelry, and unique Indian wedding attire prepped to be worn by our handsome groom. Just as the Jai mala was to get underway, the heavens offered a blessing - rain! Fear not Maharanis, Erganic Design was on hand and they swiftly moved guest inside for an unforgettable ceremony at Benares Restaurant in the name of love. Our lovely bride was dressed in an adorable orange and gold lehenga and BridalGal had done an amazing job on Suman's hair and makeup that stayed dazzling throughout the day. The celebration was coordinated by pro’s from Erganic Design and Suman felt at ease during the entire planning process. Stylish events outfitted the Hyatt Regency Long Island in pink, yellow, and white floral arrangements and kept the lines simple and classic. The lively and dedicated crowd danced to Magic Mike DJs all evening and the smiles on their faces show that it was a memorable experience for many. We wish Suman and Kristof all the best of luck on their journey as husband and wife, so click play and watch their magical day unfold.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?

I meet Kris during graduate school in 2008. We were friends for a year before we realized there was something more there and we started dating by 2009. Things were so easy and natural between us that I didn't think too much about where we were heading. One day a few months into dating, it occurred to me that I might marry him.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!

Kris arranged a beautiful, multi-course dinner at a high-end restaurant in San Francisco called Quince, which included a trip to the kitchen to meet the chef! I had no idea he was going to propose that night, although he told me to get dressed up - something he never says. But because he hadn't proposed by mid-evening, I assumed it was okay to loosen my belt and keep eating! He surprised me with a ring while we were walking away from the restaurant, and a party with our nearest and dearest afterward. It was truly a surprise.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.

I'm the rare bride who will say that planning wasn't so difficult - I've been to so many weddings, my older sister is married, and I believe in sticking to the formula and not getting too creative to minimize stress! I found my vendors through a mix of recommendations from friends and some online research, but not too much. I wanted everything to be great, but I didn't go out of my way to be different. My vendors were all experienced and well-known, so I felt that I was in good hands. Instagram and Pinterest, however, are a mixed blessing - great for inspiration, but also a bit of a rabbit-hole!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?

I went to India (New Delhi) for my shopping, with completely different ideas of what I wanted and then walked out with. Seeing what you love on Instagram is very different from actually shopping and seeing what is in stock, knowing how much time you have for original designs vs. alterations, etc. I was supposed to get a traditional yellow sari for the ceremony - ended up with a deep orange lehenga! I was always uncertain about my reception lehenga and repurposed it for my Haldi/Sangeet, and ended up placing an order with an Indian designer (Shymal & Bhumika) instead. Didn't regret it!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?

Shopping, of course, and the anticipation.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?

There was always food. Even during the ceremony. One can never go too long at a party without food!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?

Our Jai mala was planned to be on the outdoor garden patio of our venue, followed by the ceremony inside. Just as I walked onto the patio for the Jai mala, it started to rain. I thought - I'm having a "monsoon wedding" and that the heavens were actually showering their blessings! Cheesy, but it was funny and amazing - it didn't at all put a damper on things. I laughed my way to the stage as the first drops fell, and laughed my way running back inside. It was the most memorable moment for me.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?

Relax! The memories will be where things are slightly imperfect and unexpected.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)

Instead of a traditional guest book, I ordered a "guest map" from Etsy, which our guests from various states/countries could sign based on where they came from. It's a wonderful souvenir!

We adore this couple and their story! Cheers to love!
