How did you meet your Groom, and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met through family friends. A mutual friend of ours introduced our families to one another, and from there blossomed a friendship between both families. They introduced Majid and me to each other. Over the course of a year, we spoke and got to know one another, and from there came long conversations, laughs, and excitement for our future. He was “the one” when I received a phone call from him and heard the excitement and nervousness in his voice before the surprise proposal.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
It was an absolute surprise to me when he proposed. He was visiting with his family; normal conversations and dinner is what I was expecting. It wasn’t until midnight when our families gathered in one room waiting for us. I walked in, shocked, to flowers and sweets laid out on a table, and he had the ring in his hand. It was a beautifully intimate celebration with our loved ones.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Once engaged, our families decided on a date 3 months ahead. Now that’s quite unconventional, having such a small time frame to plan a wedding, but it was a miracle. My father and I managed to sort out the entire function ourselves. We found venues for our henna night and baraat function, despite many places not having availability on such short notice. Hair and Makeup cut really close to the wedding (3 weeks prior), but thankfully, Sania Raja, by a miracle, had just opened up availability on our wedding weekend, and I was the first to grab it. Outfits were sorted by my mother and me a few weeks after the engagement as we traveled to Pakistan for 3 weeks and searched nonstop for the perfect clothes. I noted the designers and shops we visited, and it was up to 40 places. Talk about chaos… but so worth it. My henna artist was Anjali (Solah_Shringar), and I found her once I’d come back from my outfit search. As chaotic as everything was, it all played out into a beautiful event. Photography and Videography were crucial; if nothing else was working out, I knew I needed quality photos and videos of the wedding celebration to keep forever. That’s when I came across TLIC Media, they did such a great job of capturing the moments and working with me to create a schedule for the day.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I’ve always loved the red bridal look, but the bright red I knew was not for me. As a kid, I loved the super ornate dresses brides would wear, but just enough where it wasn’t too over the top. I love extravagance. A big poofy lengha was the goal, but I knew it had to be maroon. My bridal dresses were my Mohsin Naveed Ranjha. After the tough search, I walked into their designer store and laid my eyes on the perfect dress. It turned out the dress was brand new and hadn’t been worn by any brides, and wasn’t it production? My heart was set on this dress, and by another miracle, the dress was made for me within 2 months. It was perfect, the colors, the patterns, the contrast dupattas, it was everything I wanted it to be.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The best part of planning was working with my photography team to sort out the day. I had a general idea and created an outline of what was to happen, but TLIC helped me finalize every little detail with timing. It was great to work with professionals. the days went by so smoothly and organized I was stress-free.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
My family and I received so many compliments from our guests and vendors about the events. Everyone loved the food, the music, the decor, and the venues. It was a blast. The dancing, entertainment, and atmosphere were so much fun for everyone, and I couldn’t have been happier to hear about it.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Truth be told, I was never the type of person to have my wedding planned out in my free time; I never browsed any ideas, dresses, rings, decor, or anything. So when the time came, I was panicking; I had no idea what to do or where to look. Eventually, after countless Pinterest scrolls and Instagram ideas, I developed a vague idea of what I wanted and how I wanted it to look. I love flowers and knew I wanted flowers incorporated into the decor. With color schemes, I wanted to switch it up by contrasting and complimenting the dresses I had for the events. It was tedious but worth it.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Take it day by day, ladies; if I can sort out a 3-day ordeal in 3 months, take all the extra time you have and makes your dreams come true. Don’t compromise on your day; if you don’t like something, do force yourself to settle with it; just keep looking for the right dress, henna, jewelry, cake, decor, etc. It’s your day, so be sure to be happy with what you choose.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
My jewelry was by Damas. I was particularly the biggest fan of the stark yellow-gold color, and I came across this choker-style set that had more of an antique look to it that complimented my baraat dress beautifully.

For someone who had no idea what I wanted for anything, I did learn quickly what I didn’t want. I relied on my intuition and gut feeling to tell me if it was right or not.

Today's journey is over, but the love story is just beginning! Don't miss our coming events here!

Playa Mujeres, Mexico Fusion Wedding by Federico Salmeron Photo

Greetings, sweet ladies! Check out Jigna & Alex's wedding on the Platinum Guide Blog. You'll love it!

photo #383624

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We used our amazing planner @Preetiexclusive to help us find all of our day of vendors, including venue/HMUA/decor and theme.  Alex and I brought Pinterest boards and Google docs with photos of inspiration for what types of look and feel we were going for, and Preeti helped us figure out what we could achieve with the vendors in Mexico as well as our Resorts catalog of offerings. For outfits, I followed a bunch of designer Indian brands as soon as we got engaged so that I could get inspiration on bridal outfits as well as stores where I could find affordable options.  My mom and dad also took a trip to India to find affordable outfits for some of our events as well as matching outfits for our immediate family.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
My bridal lengha was actually not as big of a purchase as my sangeet and reception outfit. I knew I wanted a classic red dress that was timeless, so I went pretty basic. For the other events, I wanted to go for something more trendy or playful. For my sangeet, I got a pastel embroidered lengha from Chamee & Paalak, and for my reception, I got a white and gold floral embroidered lengha by Seema Gujral from ShopKynah.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the process was working together with Alex to make decisions on what did and didn't matter to us for our wedding. We knew we wanted this wedding to be intimate and fun, so we prioritized the things that would make lasting memories rather than trying to please others.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests loved the food and the fun at our wedding. Our caterer @PatravaliCancun brought amazing flavors for us, and our DJ @DJAmbition brought so much hype to our wedding. Because our guest list was atypically small, each and every guest got to know each other and spend time with us - which is not common for a lot of South Asian weddings. That intimacy made this event all the more memorable and special.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Alex (the groom) makes his own music, and we had his Best Man perform his original music at the wedding. @DJAmbition also surprised us on the dancefloor during our reception with his original music. It was an incredible feeling when everyone was singing along and jamming out to his own song. It felt like he was a rockstar!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
This is your day, don't let it become about other people.

Witness the love, laughter, and breathtaking moments of South Asian weddings. Come back for more!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Well, we both swiped right! I had always pictured meeting someone organically but caved into the Dating App scene which truly paid off in the best way possible. We initially spoke online (via chat / text / FaceTime) for a few months before meeting in person. Fun fact, he officially asked me to be his girlfriend, his fiancé, and finally his wife all in the month of November! (years apart of course). I knew he was the one when Mayur had swam to my rescue. I had fallen off my jetski in the middle of sea in Miami when all of a sudden I see Mayur swimming towards me in an attempt to save me. His bravery and love for me had really shined through.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Wedding planning can be exhausting but hiring the right vendors makes ALL the difference. Every single one of our vendors was professional and so much fun to work with. We started off by first choosing our dream venue, The Legacy Castle, in New Jersey. Once our date was locked in, it was much easier to filter through vendors who were available for that week. Each and every vendor was carefully curated by myself, Mayur, and our parents.  We split up responsibilities – I took on HMUA, Mehndi Artist, Decorator, and Floor Wrap. Mayur handled DJ, Dhol, Photography / Videography, and Day of Coordinator. Our parents focused on the Caterer and Hotel accommodations. I know it can be daunting to do it this way but as a typical type A personality, this was the best decision so that no one person felt overwhelmed.
I really owe the décor theme to our Decorator, Partyland Sajawat. We gave Sachi full creativity rights to design each event and she absolutely stunned us!
Our Photographer / Videographer, Paperboys, had sent us a questionnaire, asked for inspiration photos, and zoomed with us a few weeks prior to the wedding. These series of events helped them understand what best way to capture our vision and it helped us gain comfortability with our lead Photographer, John. Expressing love and passion with your significant other in front of people who are taking your photos can be a bit awkward. But with the right Photographer, it can be effortless and fun.
The best part about working with an incredibly experienced and talented DJ like Platinum Roadshow is that Mayur and I did not have very much we needed to discuss with Raj. He knew all the right beats to play and when to play it. He also brought along one of the best MCs who gathered the 300+ person crowd with ease. We simply provided Raj with our detailed time table for the events so that he knew the schedule ahead of time.
I met with a few MUA and although it can be expensive, I definitely recommend a trial run with your top 2 choices. Each MUA has their own aesthetic so you’ll need to find one that aligns best with your vision. I wanted to still feel and look like me. After months of researching on social media, I finally came across Makeup by Galina who made me feel so beautiful inside and out.
If there’s one thing guests will remember, it’s food! Benares Catering did a fantastic job using high quality ingredients and hiring a professionally experienced team. Our guests were thrilled to see the variety in appetizers and entrees!
Last but not least, our Day of Coordinator, Eventify, was the biggest blessing in disguise. We met via Zoom calls once a week for about a month leading up to the wedding. They were a tremendous team of confident women who coordinated our wedding & reception day from start to finish in a smooth fashion. Mayur and I were stress free as they allowed us to focus solely on the greatest moment of our lives.
We really owe our sincerest thanks to every one of these vendors who showed up on time, gave it their all, and absolutely killed it for all of our events!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Wedding cake tasting for sure – we both have a big sweet tooth and there wasn’t anything stressful about this process at all! We simply enjoyed eating yummy cakes and laughing about the craziness that had consumed us from the planning.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
It officially hit me that I was standing next to my HUSBAND when our MC announced our entrance at the Reception. Walking down the steps towards our grand entrance, we were welcomed with so much love and hype from our family and friends. The crowd was screaming in joy while Mayur and I danced to the live Dhol player and our DJ playing “MIA by Drake” in the background. It’s a moment I’ll never forget and will always cherish.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
All of that hard work and effort you put in for months to plan will come down to the week of the wedding, which will fly by in an instance. There will be things that won’t go according to plan and will be completely out of your control. So instead of surrounding yourself with negativity, enjoy those precious moments where you’re surrounded by your loved ones. Soak in the fact that you’ll be marrying the love of your life.  And most importantly, don’t skimp on your photography / videography vendor. You’ll want a bunch of beautiful photos and video to look back on for years to come!

Our magical journey is over today, but don't forget to be back for more inspirational stories here!
