Carrollton, TX Indian Wedding by Vek Photo

Hello there, ladies! Head over to our Platinum Guide Blog to enjoy Ziyana & Prem's lovely wedding!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met my husband on Dil Mil. He was living in NY at the time and we matched and talked for a bit and the conversation died down. Then months later we reconnected and started talking again. He flew down to Dallas to see me and it’s been history since.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
So every time he came to Dallas he took me to a random restaurant for date night. He never told me where we were going but he would always tell me how to dress. In October 2018 he told me he’s going to take me to a fancy restaurant and he told me to dress up. I’m extra so he didn’t have to tell me twice. I texted my friend Chippi a dress that I found and she straight up said it’s ugly. She made me change into something else. You’d think I would have some idea now but nope. So I finally wore the outfit chippi agreed on. He took me to reunion tower and after dinner he told me let’s go up and see the view. I was like no I don’t want to mess up my hair but he insisted that we do. Me being the clueless person I am was annoyed and said ok fine but I would be mad if I messed up my hair. We went up there and when he went down on one knee I said omg yes and tried to snatch the ring from him. I freaked out for sure and before he could ask I kept saying yes. He finally asked in between my screaming and my brother, his sister and her husband, my best friend, Prem’s best friend and his wife, my cousins and most of my friends flew in to surprise me. I was in so much shock I didn’t even know what was going on for a while. When I finally came to my senses I freaked out again because everyone was there. It was a surprise proposal for sure. He did good

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Planning was the most stressful part. I had a great planner and if it wasn’t for Shelley I would’ve been lost. All my vendors were so great and I can’t say enough things about them. I knew Riz before the wedding and one of the first people I called was Riz and he was super helpful. For makeup I was super picky and I went with Ishnae and omg they’re the sweetest people you’ll meet. They book up so quick and I literally booked them before I booked my venue. For decor we went with alpha and I was blown away when I walked into my reception hall because they went above and beyond. We picked Vinnie from VEK photo for photos and he’s very well known and he helped us get our videographer Ali from Aria. Ali and Vinnie are definitely considered the A team.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I went to India for wedding shopping. I got a South Indian Saree for the wedding and that was all my mom. She helped me pick it out. The reception lehnga was a huge mess since I picked it out from India. I got it from India but after I got back home I hated it. A few weeks before the wedding I found this Instagram page named mayasboutique and I got in touch with the owner Jenny and she helped me pick out my reception lehnga. It was so pretty and Jenny was super helpful. I wanted to stay away from red for reception but this lehnga was so pretty I ended up wearing red. I also ended up getting my mehndi outfit from her. My whole decor was peach and gold. The bridesmaids wore peach lehnga and the groomsmen wore peach tie and socks.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part definitely have to be shopping. I had so much fun picking out outfits for the bridesmaids. The bridesmaids had two outfits. They wore traditional kasavu Saree and jewelry for the ceremony and for reception they switched to a lehnga. I custom made the lehnga in India and it was the best. I picked out the fabric and stitched the outfits for them. I also picked out their jewelry and it was honestly so much fun. For ceremony the groomsmen wore peach kurta with mundu and they all looked super traditional and for reception they wore a suit that my husband picked out. We had our little ring beaters wear matching mundu and kurta with the groomsmen which was so cute. The junior bridesmaids wore red outfit to match with the bridesmaids blouse in the morning. Dressing up the bridal party was my most favorite part about the wedding for sure.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
DJ! Everyone loved Riz and Freddy. They kept the crowd entertained all night. Prem’s friends from NY raved about how great the DJ was. Everyone raved about the food too. My family friend Sunny uncle from India garden catered and everyone kept saying how great the food was. I’ve known sunny uncle since I was a kid and he went above and beyond for us. Also, we had a taco truck to end the night and everyone kept saying how that was something different they’ve never seen before.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The actual ceremony part for sure. It was something special for both of us and we loved how traditional it was. Prem wrote me a letter and I didn’t expect to cry so much as I did. It was so sweet and I definitely messed up my makeup.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Don’t stress. Everything would be ok. Nobody is going to remember the small details and everyone is going to remember how happy you were. Hire a planner!! Don’t cut cost on that please. I was happy because the day of my wedding because I knew “Shelley got it”

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
I’m a huge fan of Disney movies. When we started dating we used to love watching beauty and the beast. I told my henna artist Samira who is very very talented that I love the movie. She actually drew beauty and the beast on my henna. Everyone who saw it was amazed by how perfect it was.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
When I was visiting home during my freshman year of college, I really wanted to go to this party with my friends.  Luckily, one of Rishi's cousins introduced the both of us at this party.  It was an instant connection once we started to talk about a TV show we both like. Little did I know that at the age of 19 I was going to meet my soulmate and best friend.  After 8.5 years, I still think about that day when we first met and feel extremely blessed to have such an amazing relationship with him.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I have been planning for this day since I was a little girl, so of course I knew what I wanted (well at least for the Christian dress).  Luckily, I had a lot of support when I went shopping for my dresses.  For my Indian bridal lengha, I knew it was the one once I saw it in Nazranaa.  It was everything I wanted--a velvet and burgundy material.  When I went to Castle Couture for my Christian wedding dress, it was a bit more complicated because I was so overwhelmed with the dress selections.  But, I knew I wanted an off white, lace wedding dress with either 3/4th or long sleeves, so that helped narrow it down.  After trying on several dresses, I felt super indecisive between a few dresses and wanted to sleep on it.  So I went back a few weeks later and thank gosh Matthew Christopher was there for his trunk show! Once I tried on his dress, it was everything I ever dreamed of since I was a little girl. Lastly, for my reception wedding dress, I was able to get it customized.  I wanted it to be a very glamorous one piece dress that was a representation of both cultures (with of course a lot of sparkles). I think they were able to nail my vision because I could not wait to wear it once I saw what it looked like!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part was definitely the end of the night on the dance floor! I finally felt all of the pre-wedding stress lifted off of my shoulders.  I was able to see all of our ideas come together and everyone having a great time.  I had a dream team of vendors and I honestly would not know what I would do without them through this whole wedding process.  I literally bugged them all the time whenever I had a concern or question.  They made my wedding day a dream and I could not thank them enough! I was actually upset at the end of the night because I did not want that to be the last time I ever saw them since we grew so close and truly considered them to be friends.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests loved the way we incorporated both of our cultures. For the Hindu ceremony, we had the traditional Baraat and Indian food, and then we transitioned to the Christian ceremony in the afternoon.  We also had a Mariachi band during cocktail hour, which everyone loved! Our venue (The Palace at Somerset Park) had amazing food and drinks as well.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Brides-to-be—It is super important to establish a connection with your vendors! Definitely do your research because some vendors may not have the same style or vision that you want for your wedding day.  Also, be patient and remain calm. Stuff that you are unable to control will happen, just go with it! On your wedding day, things may run late, your dupatta may keep falling off, guests who said they would attend do not show up, you slip during your first dance, you do not eat anything until the end of the night, but at the end of the day NONE of that matters. You literally do not care because you are too excited and happy to let it bother you, so have fun! All of the stress and planning will be worth it because at the end of the day, you are marrying your best friend in front of everyone you love.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
We would like to thank all of our amazing vendors, family, and friends for being a part of our special day! We are so blessed to have such amazing people in our lives.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Chaitanya and I studied in the same school but were never in the same group until we met again in class 12th tuitions and it all began from there.
We started dating in 2010. We used to meet almost everyday and for both of us it was our first relationship that we were ever in. He had even introduced me to his family almost in a week's time!
we have literally grown together, matured together, gone through ups and downs together, but we NEVER wanted to give up on each other! That is what made both of us realise that this was it. This is what keeps us going yet after so many years.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
So since we had been dating for quite a long time. it was time to make things official. So in 2017, Chaitanya and i with a few of our cousins took a trip to Dubai. I had no clue what was in store for me. The first night in Dubai, he took me to the Palazzo Versace hotel where he had booked a suite. This was it. As soon as i entered that suite, the whole floor read "WILL YOU MARRY ME?'  in rose petals. The next thing i see was Chaitanya on his knees with a ring in his hand asking me to marry him. To be honest, i froze for a moment until i heard someone say GO and after a big YES, we partied all night. Thats how he proposed me.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Our wedding took place on 10th February,2019. We had good enough time to plan our wedding and give importance to details. We also didn't want too many functions. we mainly had 2 functions - Mehendi followed by a Sangeet and then the next day was the Wedding.
Since our wedding was in the month of February, we wanted open venues for our functions as the weather in Mumbai would have been really nice. We first went to Jade Garden, Worli, and all our family members loved it and we even finalised it in a weeks time!
As for the Mehendi & Sangeet venue, we closed in on Aqaba.

Since i am not too fond of make-up, I wanted my make up artist to be absolutely minimal on me and Meera Mehta executed it perfectly. i was very very happy with all my looks!.

For the outfits, i always wanted a traditional look for both my functions.
For me, jewellery also played a very important role. I did have something particular in mind. Once i entered the first store, i got exactly what i was looking for and went ahead with it

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Unlike most of the brides who choose red for the wedding day, I wanted something different.
I always wanted to wear an ivory or a gold lehenga.  After a lot of visits to many stores, I finally got the lehenga that i always wanted! The colour was what i had imagined and so i went ahead with it. It was my wedding lehenga and I continued to wear the same  with a different draping for my reception.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I always wanted be there in every step of the planning process because this time never comes back and i wanted to enjoy it to the fullest! A lot of people were helping me to make my special day even more memorable for me. We started planning a lot in advance so we could give special attention to every detail. And just planning your wedding is truly enjoyable in its own way!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
So on our wedding day, we did want to do something different, Something unique which not many would have witnessed often. So,we created this food concept  called "Bharat Bhraman" with the Chef which would take the guests through all of INdia's states and highlights each states' staple food! WE had a map of India drawn out with its staple dish! And, till date we still get a lot of praises for that menu.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
There are a lot of moments that play in your head specially when you think about your wedding day.
For me, it was that moment when i was walking towards the mandap. He was sitting right there. All those  butterflies in your stomach come right back. All those 9 years of dating have finally come down to this ONE day that we both have ALWAYS waited for! It was just  overwhelming  and both of us were in tears when we just right there together in the mandap!

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
For the decor of all my functions, I was blessed to have my sister-in-law Disha with me. She just went ahead with what she thought would look good and i absolutely trusted her judgement.
She alongwith Aditi Hamlai (Fireflies DEcor) at Aqaba came up with a royal theme. It was all about a combination of red and gold and vintage frames. Aditi understood exactly what we wanted and it was an absolute pleasure to work with her!

For the wedding day, it was again all Disha with the decorators GAurav and Priya (Saffron celebrations). This time they came up with an Enchanted Forest theme.
GAurav and Priya had a Fabulous job with my mandap and my reception backdrop. It was full of baby breaths and flowers! I was absolutely in love with the decor on that day. It all looked so pretty!
With Saffron Celebrations, it all got decided so smoothly and the OUTCOME says it all! IN fact. the guests were in absolute awe of the decor too!!

also, for the house decor, I always wanted dream catchers to be a part of the decor. Trinketree by Ushvi Shah came to my rescue and made me some some really pretty dreamcatchers- just the way i wanted them!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Try to enjoy the whole process of planning your wedding but also try not to get stressed out.  Remove some time with your partner to do stuff - go on dinner dates, go for a movie etc. ENJOY each and every moment because this time will never come back!

That is all for today, darlings. Make sure to join us tomorrow for more!
