Rockleigh, NJ, Fusion Wedding by Jay Seth Photography

Following the lovely outdoor ceremony, Sima and Peter moved the party indoors to celebrate their big day with family and friends. Ostentatious met quirky elegance at Sima and Peter’s tasteful reception at the Rockleigh Country Club. Jay Seth Photography brought out the kooky and romantic in both Sima and Peter through their portraits. Sima was in awe of Jay Seth and said, “our photographer has such a calming presence and did a wonderful job! The videographers, Live Picture Studios, had never met Jay Seth, but worked so well that most guests thought they were one large company.” We were blown away by the frosty and ivory shades of the decor - Elegant Affairs Inc.  set up a wonderland of a stage by suspending crystal garlands from the floral arch backdrop. Loved the addition of the boxy lanterns on either sides of the couch that also served as a platform for floral arrangements and floating candles within cylindrical crystal vases. The chandeliers and candles in the ballroom helped create a romantic atmosphere, a perfect segue into the couple’s first dance and DJ-ing by IEDJS. Sonal J Shah did a fabulous job orchestrating this event. Since the ceremonies were both held during the day, the couple’s friends got together and gave them a sparkler send-off outside of their venue. Check out the gallery to be marveled!

Fireworks were the perfect end to this lavish wedding, and a tete-a-tete with the bride seems to be the perfect end to our synopsis. Sima gave us a ton of details into this bash, and we couldn’t wait to share it with you:

How did you meet your Raja and when did you know he was "the one"?

We met when I was in college and Peter was working at a bank in downtown Cleveland, through mutual friends at a rooftop lounge one magical evening. I knew he was a genuine, sweet, honest guy when he called me for the first time to ask me on a date. I said yes, and his very next question during that same phone call was if I wanted to also hang out for a second date later in the week. There were no games with him. I knew in that moment that he was very different from most guys. We looked into each others eyes, locked hands and the rest was history.

Do you have a super romantic proposal story or engagement memory?

Peter planned for my friends to join us for dinner in NYC (or so I thought). We were to meet at the restaurant, but I arrived very early. To diffuse the situation, Peter took me to a nearby bar for a quick drink: Pera Soho. We then walked to Aperitivo Di Palma in the West Village. At that point, I wondered if this was going to be "it". The big proposal. Pete could read my mind, and that's when he said that tonight was not going to be the night, but that it was coming soon and to accept his gift since I had been waiting so long for the proposal. He had bought me Christian Louboutin shoes! I showed my best friend this new gift excitedly, and when I turned back around, Pete was on one knee. And there was a bright, sparkly ring. I immediately said yes!! Then, his sister and my other friends popped out from behind the door. I was so happy and excited that I did not pay attention when we were motioned to the carriage house in the back. When I walked into the room, I was greeted by my parents, Pete's parents, my brother and his wife and my closest friends! It was the biggest surprise of my life!

Tell us about your wedding style. When you sat down to really figure out how your dream wedding would look, did you start with one central color, a palette of colors, or a theme that served as your inspiration?

We wanted an elegant and romantic wedding with a European flare. We chose the Rockleigh Country Club as our venue which looks like an Italian villa. The outdoor stone pillars and fountain provided the perfect backdrop for pictures. The endless chandeliers and marble dance floor provide such an ornate look. So much so that minimal decoration is actually needed. To provide a romantic feel, I wanted candles and crystals to line the entire room and tables. Further, we chose to have blush, light pink and ivory tones for flowers and other decor.

Did you and your Raja have a special song that you danced to as your first dance? How did you choose it?

We danced to Ed Sheeran's Kiss Me. Peter actually chose it. He also scheduled a dance class in SoHo to learn some moves for our first dance which was really cute.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details!

Our mehndi was held at my parent's home. Elegant Affairs did all of our wedding decorations including our mehndi which we absolutely loved. The saffron and green colors really went well with my parents living room. They set up a huge tent outside so have food and drinks. It was a great way to kick off our wedding weekend. For our cake, we went with My Daughter's Cakes. They were wonderful. The cake tasting included 15-20 different types of fillings, and 5-6 different types of cakes. They even made a special funfetti filling as we said that was our favorite flavor! They let us combine 5-6 different types of fillings with cakes for our final wedding cake. She also matched our wedding cake design to elements of our wedding invitation which was amazing. Very down to earth, friendly people!

Okay, somebody seriously needs to give this couple an award for coordinating their outfits so perfectly! For the Gujarati ceremony at Rockleigh Country Club, these two synced in festive white and crimson red ensembles. Sima donned ornate white separates topped off with a tulle embroidered dupatta, and Peter paired his embroidered white sherwani with a velvet burgundy dupatta and silk bottoms. Peter looked adorable in his pearl white mojaris! Elegant Affairs centered the decor around damask prints, and the aisle was adorned with dull gold column cutouts that held white and pink blooms. The massive stage backdrop consisted of three blush pink carved wooden panels, also in a damask design, resulting in a gorgeous arch that was festooned with a plethora of pastel peonies. The false ceiling and multiple chandeliers at Rockleigh Country Club’s false lent a grandiose feel. This multi-purpose venue worked perfectly because the couple simply moved the party outdoors for their Christian ceremony! Kudos to Sonal J Shah for orchestrating this wonderful event. The outdoor altar looked like a mini Palace of Fine Arts backdrop, adorned with white orchid stems in the back, and square paper lanterns made for excellent vases. “For some reason, our Christian ceremony felt like something out of a movie. It was wonderful being outdoors”, proclaimed Sima.  She looked like a princess in her lacy beaded white gown, half of her hair swept up with lots of big curls, and a champagne smokey eye courtesy of Cinderella Bridez. Revel in this double ceremony by heading to the gallery that has stunning photos shot by Jay Seth Photography!

Hilton, NY, Fusion Wedding by Jay Seth Photography

An east-meets-west wedding will always be delightfully engrossing to us because they not only celebrate the union of two individuals, but also two distinct cultures. We all know just how much planning and prep goes into a multi-event Indian wedding, especially when it involves two ceremonies, so when we see one that is so well color-coordinated, it makes us borderline euphoric! The planner, Sonal J Shah’s rendition of this multicultural wedding was a seamless blend of Sima’s Gujarati rituals and Peter’s American heritage. Jay Seth Photography gave us a ton of dreamy shots to obsess over, while Live Picture Studios filmed the amalgamation. We embarked on Sima-Peter wedding adventure through the first event, the Sangeet at the Hilton Pearl River in New York. At the risk of sounding corny, we have to say that Sima and Peter looked like dancing dolls in their matching teal ensembles! Teal is Peter’s favorite color, and he rocked his snazzy bandhgala kurta with small butta prints all over. Sima paired an aqua turquoise blouse with an ombre lehenga, all embroidered in beautiful gold beading. Cinderella Bridez gussied up our lovely Maharani with a sultry navy smokey eye, mauve lip, and styled her hair in big, loose side-swept curls. Moghul Catering pleased the palates of the guests with their delectable Indian cuisine. Elegant Affairs decked up Hilton Pearl River using splashes of regal and festive colors like purple, magenta, tangerine, and cerulean blue. The use of silk and satin linens, and their interplay with the butta work embroidery on the cushions and bolsters lent a Moroccan-meets-ethnic vibe to the Sangeet. With the sound of Dandiya sticks in the air, and dancy beats from IEDJS by Manan Shah made sure the Sangeet was a buck load of fun! If you fancy, run your eyes over this adorable couple’s gallery!f

We love receptions that look like an extension of the ceremony, because is there a better way to make everything look put-together? K.I. Weddings chose to retain some key elements from the ceremony, like the floral dome, the gold frames behind the mandap, and all the blush pink accents. Prashe Decor further primped up Meridian Convention and Event Center by placing a gazillion floating candles within individual crystal candelabras on the stage, and a whole lot of lavender lighting to bring out the glint in the crystal tablescapes. Four lovely white and gold tiers of cake sat on a square rosette-adorned blush pink base, a marvel in the name of a cake by Edible Artistry. Payal gleamed in an all-white ensemble with tulle embellished overlays, and twirled with her sweetheart who donned a black tuxedo paired with casual suede loafers. The soiree turned into a musical fest with singer Hemang Thakkar from Rhythm of Dreams, and Anis Chandani on the flute, and DJ Prashant Poudyal coaxed the guests into putting on their dancing shoes with his fab beats! The reception also featured an aerialist from Triad Aerial Artists, who performed during the cocktail hour, and a caricature artist created amusing drawings for the guests. “It was so much fun to come up with these particulars and watching them come to life on the day of,” gushed Payal! That concludes Payal and Viral’s wedding extravaganza, one that left us speechless to say the least. We caught up with Payal to get the inside scoop of her wedding planning and the entire experience. Here's what she had to say:

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I was lucky enough to be able to go to India twice last year in order to shop for the wedding. Unfortunately, I did not have any luck finding my "dream" lengha at any shop with ready made clothing. My cousin recommended a design studio that she had used for her own wedding and I decided to give it a shot. It worked out perfectly because I was able to choose the fabric, color, pattern, and dupatta to my exact specifications.

For events other than your ceremony, tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
I have done a lot of bollywood dances growing up, and one in particular that I performed at a competition was Saath Samundar. I still have the outfit I wore and my niece actually wore that outfit and did the exact same dance as me. The thing that made it even more special was the actual dance i performed was playing in the screen behind her.

We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
For the ceremony, I knew I always wanted to use a blush pink color scheme. Pink was my late maternal grandmother's favorite color(her name was also Gulab!). I also wore some of her jewelry on the wedding day and incorporated photos of her and my paternal grandparents into my bouquet. It was so important to me to be able to honor them and include them in one of the biggest days of my life.

Same place, same time, different wedding - come back tomorrow to be visually inspired!

If you confused Payal and Viral’s Welcome Night and Vidhi/ Satak for their ceremony, we won’t blame you - it was just that elaborate! But it was the Mehndi and the ceremony that turned things up a notch. Bringing in a whiff of ghazal and Sufi, Prashe Decor alternated a rich sea green with ochre yellow for the drapes, and the area dedicated to the bride featured yellow seating and embroidered pink bolsters. The indoor ceremony was a total sea change in terms of overall look, and K.I. Weddings perfectly carried out Payal’s vision of a blush pink color scheme. Pink was Payal’s late maternal grandmother's favorite color (her name was also Gulab!), so naturally, it was central to the ceremony. The entrance, aisle, and mandap, were all doused in roses and bouquets, with floating candles inside crystal vases adorning the aisle. Minimalistic chic gold frames with candles placed on the rim constituted the backdrop of the mandap, one that glowed owing to the overhead white floral dome with an accompanying chandelier. Just when we were barely done swooning over all the decor gorgeousness, Maharani Payal stole the show in an intricately embroidered blush pink blouse and red lehenga, topped off with a gold tulle dupatta. You could from one glance that the Kundan jewelry was no ordinary set, and Payal confirmed that they belonged to her grandmother. Payal’s girl squad coordinated in gold blouses and organza lehengas, also in blush pink, and the men were equally glamorous in their beige kurtas and baby pink vests. Meridian Convention and Event Center hosted this ball of a wedding, where Om Foods Catering & Nasta served authentic Gujarati delicacies to the guests. To be fascinated for the fourth consecutive event, check out the photos from their gallery featuring stunning stills by CB Art Photography.
