Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
The proposal was beautiful: We went on vacation in Maui, and just towards the end of our trip, he surprised me with the proposal as we were taking a walk on cliffs overlooking the ocean.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The food and music were fantastic; our guests generally had a great time, and we heard very positive things about that in particular.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Our reception decor was based on summer sunset colors (a connection to our proposal story). One unique piece of the decor was the centerpieces: We alternated tables with beautiful floral arrangements with tables of vases filled with oranges.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
One of the most special parts of our wedding was the jewelry. My husband’s father is a jeweler (DiaJewels Inc.), and they designed my rings and evening jewelry, as well as my mangalsutra. It definitely made wearing those pieces feel special. We also truly could not have done it without our coordinator Penguin Events; they made everything (even amid inevitable day-of crises) run so smoothly!

My loves, that's it for this entry. Remember that we have inspiring stories every day. I will see you!

Scottsdale, AZ Gujurati Wedding by Vellora Productions

Hello there, sweeties! Are you ready for a big, elegant, and colorful celebration? We know you are, so get ready to dive into Khushboo & Hamil's wedding, as it was a cornucopia of beauty and traditional flair! This beautiful and romantic celebration, thoroughly planned and designed by Urvashi Mishra, began with a Sangeet Event held in their hometown at the Pearl Banquets & Conference Center, where they did not have as tight of a guest list, and their dog could attend this event as he could not come to Arizona. Khushboo wore a colorful lengha from Seema GujralNihal Singh Live Dholi and Areu Blue enlivened this incredible Sangeet. Everyone had a great time! As for the wedding, it was simple and elegant thanks to the astonishing decor crafted by Bloom and Blueprint and VP impressions. The Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa At Gainey Ranch was the venue of their choice as it had everything the bride and groom wanted mountains, water, palm trees, and a golf course. Khushboo stole the show walking down the aisle dressed in a red lengha from Falguni Shane Peacock and Studio East6 and looking like a goddess thanks to the exquisite makeup and hairstyle designed by Makiaj Beauty. And let's not forget the unique and creative Henna artwork by Henna by Purvi. The ability to create custom designs on the spot was an unforgettable experience for this Maharani. If you loved these ceremonies as much as we did, you would be thrilled to know that we were invited to the reception party where DJ Chat from DJ Sunny Entertainment fired up the dancefloor playing the best Bollywood hits that put everyone on their feet! This beautiful invitation we just received was designed and crafted by the talented team at The Royal Collection, who are well-known for their unique and delicate designs. Their goal was to create invitations that perfectly and elegantly encapsulated the theme of this wedding. If you can't get enough of this lovely couple, you might want to spend extra time admiring today's jaw-dropping gallery by the incredible Vellora Productions. Amazing! We know you will love it and get tons of inspiring ideas. You will not regret it!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Khushboo and Hamil's love story began at a family friend's 50th birthday celebration. Despite having crossed paths before, it wasn't until they found themselves among the guests at Hamil's father's milestone birthday celebration that they truly connected. The two spent the entire night in intimate conversation, bonding over their shared love of travel, food, and their British heritage. They soon went on their first date at Khushboos favorite Ramen restaurant and the rest, as they say, is history.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Their romance continued to flourish as they explored the world and shared new experiences together. And it was during a surprise engagement trip to the mountains of Colorado with Khushboo's closest friends and Hamil's family that Hamil popped the question. After a few days of indulging in the finest amenities, they returned home to a surprise engagement party planned by their families.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Excited to start planning their wedding, Khushboo and Hamil knew they wanted a destination wedding. After considering several locations, they finally settled on a beautiful resort in Arizona, a place they both loved and offered a breathtaking mountain and golf course backdrop for their outdoor wedding.
Their vendors and wedding planner helped them create a four-day wedding extravaganza that perfectly reflected their sophisticated tastes and interests. From the Cinco de Mayo tacos and tequila welcome party, to the color schemes and decor, every detail was thoughtfully curated to showcase the couple's impeccable style. And of course, their beloved Rottweiler, Dexter, was also incorporated into the festivities.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
My mom ideally wanted me to go with a traditional red, I was a bit hesitant but wanted to make her happy so decided to look into red options in addition to lenghass that had some red in it. I knew I wanted to get my wedding lengha from a designer but was not planning to go to India. I was lucky enough to live close by to Studio East 6. An Indian couture fashion boutique that carries a majority of big name designers from India. I knew I didn't want anything with heavy sequence or beading on the lengha. It was during a Falguni Shane peacock trunk show hosted by studio east 6 that I found my dream red lengha. My mom was the one who found the lengha, it was the perfect color red and was filled with gold foil work. I knew I didn't want the lengha to have embroidery so when I saw the foil I knew it was the one. With the help of my mom, best friend and Studio east I was able to find my dream lengha.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Our wedding planner, Urvashi, made the entire wedding planning process so seamless, fun and easy. She thought about details we would have never dreamed of and gave us fun unique ideas based on our interests and personalty. The most enjoyable part would have had to be the site visit. We had a great time exploring the venue and trying all of the amazing food during the food tasting.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests raved about the food, decor and detail to planning through our entire weekend. Our Wedding planning, Urvashi Mishra, made sure the guests were taken care of from the moment our wedding started to the brunch before the left. Prior to the wedding she made suggestions that would make the weekend memorable for our guests. During the wedding weekend Urvashi and her team made sure that the weekend ran flawlessly. Everything ran on time, guests and family members were where they were suppose to be. From our first event to our last the guests were always raving about the food Crafted Cuisine had prepared. Chef Kaushik and his team made sure all the food was made fresh and in live stations. Finally the decor, VP impressesions went above and beyond to work with Bloom and Blueprint to make sure the entire wedding weekend represented us through and through. Each event's decor represented my husband and I to the fullest. Our guests were all brown away by the thought and consideration that went into all the decor.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The entire wedding weekend was incredibly special however, there are a few specific moments that play in my mind. At the sangeet we got to share our entrance with our dog Dexter! It was great having him physically be there for one event. Another moment at the wedding was when the brides mom surprised the couple with a live painter and a painting of them at the mandup. It's something the bride had always wanted but had cut due to budgeting. It was the perfect surprise for the couple to remember their perfect day.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
As specified, the decor represented the bride and grooms personalities and interests though and through. The sangeet was based around the grooms favorite color and all of the bride and grooms favorite foods. The Pithi was on what looked like a putting green. The welcome fiesta represented the couples love for Mexican food/culture/music whilst still representing their Indian roots. The wedding had mountains In the background like the bride wanted and was on a golf course and water like the groom wanted. The reception had a black and iridescent theme with a candy bar and cigar station which the couple loves. My bridesmaids preformed an amazing dance to the all the brides favorite songs and songs that represented the couple and their love story. The groomsmen preformed an attention grabbing dance that had all the guests clapping and dancing.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Make sure you enjoy every moment of the process. From initial planning, to the site visits and tastings to the actual wedding weekend. Time flies by faster than anyone can imagine and you really want to enjoy every moment of it.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
The wedding was filled with surprises for both the guests and the happy couple, including a surprise live painter, performances, and a cigar bar set up in a private lounge. It was a celebration that truly captured the love and personalities of Khushboo and Hamil, and left everyone feeling enchanted and inspired.

Our blog has exciting new details from upscale traditional weddings every day. Don't miss any!

Claymont, DE Fusion Wedding by Lauren Maggiore

Welcome back, Maharanis! Are you ready for a new love story? We know you are! So get comfortable, pour a glass of your favorite beverage, and get ready to enjoy all the glamour surrounding Nina & Rodney's wedding! We are starting this inspirational journey by examining a solemn ceremony inside St. Elisabeth Church. After all, the long-awaited wedding day arrived, and these two lovebirds were more than prepared to link their lives in marriage. After the emotional moments, they had a traditional-vibrant, reception party at The WaterfallSunbursts & Stardust conceptualized this event perfectly, while Mama Te Events enhanced the experience with heavenly decor. This winning combo created the perfect environment for this reception. Our beautiful Maharani stole the show looking like a princess after being glamorized by Blo Blow Dry Bar. We love her traditional and glamorous look from Irini's Originals, LLC! Nina was looking for delicacy, precision, and glamour on her bridal henna, so she allied with Alvie's Henna Art, and we love the result! Her gorgeous designs are worth a standing ovation. She used top-notch products to protect her skin and make her design last all night! But a party is only a party with music and an excellent lighting scheme, and Luxe Event Group did an incredible job for this couple. They always ensure that each event is handled professionally, down to the last detail. Their DJs specialize in South Asian and Indian weddings but cater to all crowds and musical tastes, and along with DJ Suraj, they put everyone to dance the night away! All the guests enjoyed the delicious cake from Desserts by Dana. This reception party was beyond words! For more amazing shots of this event, head to our full gallery. We've compiled the best photos captured by Lauren Maggiore for your enjoyment. We know that you are going to love every bit of it. Enjoy it!

It was a miracle! They provided luxury event coordination and planning services! The on-point decor by Mandaps by Dhoom created a soothing environment. Both Sonam & Sumit looked ravishing together. Still, it was our beautiful Maharani who stole the show! She said, "I do," looking like a goddess after being glamorized by Maliha Khan Makeup and Make Me Up by Jessica. We cannot stress how much we love every bit of her elegant and glamorous outfits designed by fashion gurus Sequinze and Meghna Jain Modish. She looked both captivating and inspiring! How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met through a mutual friend around 4-5 years ago, very coincidentally.
I have always told my friends from before college that I only see myself with a Punjabi husband in the future just for laughs; however, who knew this would manifest into reality?
I knew he was the one the day we went on our first date. The interaction was not uncomfortable. We instantly became friends and had so many things in common. I am so happy to have met the love of my life!
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
I wanted a small proposal, but living together made it hard for him to hide the planning and details from me. I did find out he was proposing around June 2021. It was a beautiful proposal but a very hot summer day in Longwood Gardens, PA. Our whole family came for the surprise, and the funniest part was him forgetting his lines during the actual ring part- it was hilarious.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
The planning started initially for a destination wedding, hoping for close family and friends to attend. However, once creating our guest counts, we realized many of them would not be able to attend.
I reached out to NP Events, LLC, and Ankit Oza was there for me from the absolute beginning. He planned my entire wedding, including vendors, within two months. It was a miracle!! He made sure we had the best vendors and venue for our dream day.
Decor: Mandaps by Dhoom - our family members have used their services before; therefore, it was a very easygoing process to pick and choose for all the events (we had quite a few events, and they made this happen for us, including two Mandaps for two back to back ceremonies)
DJ: hands down, Platinum Roadshow made each event an absolute blast. For the reception, we had DJ Amit, who knew our vibes - we are from Jersey and grew up with the Jersey shore-type music, and Amit definitely turned our reception into our exact vision. We even had a dancing LED robot!
Venue: The Palace at Somerset Park was perfect- they had multiple ballrooms and outdoor areas where we were able to have different events
Hair/Makeup: Maliha Khan Makeup was my personal bridal hair and makeup. There are no words for how she made me look and feel about my events. Absolute princess! We used Payal Jessica Shah for the bridal party and family members, and they did an amazing job getting everyone ready on time for the big day.
Bridal Henna: Henna by Pallavi, professional and very good at her talent. I was concerned with my forearm tattoos which she did amazing with covering and blending in with the rest of the designs.
Signs: we used @girlthatmakessigns (Niti Patel) from Instagram. I went to her last minute to create various songs for the events, which she did complete within a 1-week time frame and had them at my doorstep with the best pricing. Highly recommend.
Catering: Moghul Catering and Rasoi I Restaurant in NJ are the best for catering and listening to your wants and needs. We had the best food items, and all of our guests enjoyed each event.
Overall we loved each and every vendor who went above and beyond for our wedding weekend. Wedding planning itself was very stressful. However, it is all worth it in the end. I also wanted to mention our families and cousins who worked very hard to make our weekend special.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Bridal lehenga(s) shopping was probably the easiest part of the whole process! We went to India for all the bridal shopping in Baroda, Gujarat- Sequinz. I was there from about 10 am-6 pm and chose each lehenga for each event.
I had two ceremonies, Sikh & Hindu; therefore, I had the luxury of wearing TWO whole bridal lehengas! I chose white and pastels for the Sikh and a traditional heavy red lehenga for the Hindu ceremony. The bridesmaids all wore white with pink jewelry to keep it neutral for pictures.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the wedding planning was wedding shopping! I took a trip to India and was glad I did so, as I was able to find more choices for my vision.
We also enjoyed food tasting and planning the morning wedding ceremonies, as well as learning about the two different cultures and traditions.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests absolutely loved the catering; we received many compliments on the food, which was perfect at each event since there were 5. It was here to choose so many different items and not repeat, but we made this happen!
Our guests also enjoyed experiencing the different Sikh and Hindu traditions as they were able to learn about each one.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
My special moment was walking down the aisle and seeing my dream wedding come alive. It was absolutely magical walking in with my two mamas and mamis. My husband's grandfather, who is a very special person to my in-laws, was initially not going to attend, the family surprised us, and seeing that smile on my husband and mother-in-law made this weekend even more special.
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Mehndi: we hired The Sangeet Lady (Navdeep Tucker) to come and sing at this event as it was more informal. My main goal was to get out two families acquainted, and Navdeep did a great job by singing traditional wedding Boliyan and inviting both families together for a night of singing and dancing.
Haldi: We had a combined haldi event, and it was a blast! Our friends and families decided to spray us down with water guns in the 40-degree weather, but we made it through!
Sangeet: We combined our cultures by having garba/raas for the initial hour, then did dance performances and followed by the traditional Jaggo event. Let’s just say by the end of the night; there was a lot of money on that dancefloor.
My best friends Suhail and Ana from high school did a special dance for us and surprised us by including his beautiful kids Anayah and Alayna in the dances we grew up doing. We also had ice gola come, and everyone enjoyed the traditional street flavors.
Reception: no words for this day! We had a dancing robot, huge LED screen TV, 360 videos, and 321 nitrogen ice cream. The reception vibes were amazing.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
For brides-to-be: the wedding planning process is very stressful, especially if you are doing it alone. I highly recommend a planner for support and trying to be calm throughout the process (which is hard).
Everyone will have opinions but remember this is your big day, and it has to be how you and your significant other want it. Enjoy the process because, ultimately, it goes by very fast, and so will the wedding weekend.
I highly recommend taking ALL the pictures you are able to throughout your events. These memories are something you will want to cherish forever.
Maharanis, I hope this wedding will inspire you to jump aboard the wedding train. Have a great day!

Rochester Hills, MI Indian Wedding by Sky Films & Productions

Hello, beauties! Don't miss the lovely story of Ashna & Kais in today's Platinum Guide Blog.

photo #363585

How did you meet your Groom, and when did you know he was "the one"?
Kais had recently moved from Washington D.C. in the Summer of 2010. Walking around the hallways of our high school at the start of the school year, we ran into each other multiple times. We would always see each other at lunch, sitting at two different tables, glancing and smiling. I never really made any small talk. Months passed, and we reached October 2010. My brother was having a birthday party. Bored out of her mind, I was sitting/talking to the boys while enjoying pizza and cake. In comes Kais, ready to pick up his brother, who coincidently was at the party. In true Indian fashion, my mom asked, “Offer him some food.” Our first words to one another ended up being, “Would you like some pizza or cake?”. This brief encounter led to more talking at school and a blossoming friendship.
Our friendship grew over the years, and we became a part of each other’s constant friend group. From celebrating proms, graduations, birthdays, and so much more, we became inseparable. In October 2013, coincidentally, at another one of my brother's birthday parties (which happened to be on my actual 20th birthday), things changed forever. I received a call around 12:30 pm from Kais asking if I wanted to study. Anyone who knows me knows that I have a countdown to my birthday from the very beginning of the month EVERY YEAR. I answered the call and yelled, “I DON’T STUDY ON MY BIRTHDAY”; and hung up. Kais called back, pretending as if we didn’t just have that conversation, saying, “Happy 20th Birthday”. After talking for a bit, I went back to enjoying the birthday party and celebrating my birthday later that day at home. To my surprise, the doorbell rang around 6:30 pm that night. It was Kais, with a Grande Mocha Frappuccino in hand, waiting to wish me happy birthday. He came inside and ate some of my birthday cake while watching some tv. During the conversation (randomly), the question was asked, “Will you be my girlfriend?” I think we all know the response!
Our relationship, which was a majority long-distance, flourished throughout the years. Kais went away to college at MSU for 4 years, while Ashna stayed at home attending Wayne State University. At least 1 weekend a month, Ashna would drive up to East Lansing to visit Kais and spend the weekend with all of their friends. The special weekends would always include their signature college date night food; a large pizza and a 2 Liter pop. Kais would then come home for a weekend, allowing both to see each other almost every other week. The relationship grew as the years passed, making memories that would last a lifetime. Times got a lot tougher when Kais took an amazing opportunity to attend the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical School in 2018. As hard as the distance would be, we knew that it was best for his career and that the relationship was strong enough to make it through. Daily phone calls, text messages, video calls, etc., got us through some of the hardest times. Date nights still included having some pizza virtually while watching tv shows or movies. Every time we would meet in person, whether in Alabama or Michigan; for a day or weeks, we made the most of the time we got. Our relationship got stronger during this time. We began to understand that if we could do this and still be happy and in love, we could conquer anything.
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
During the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kais was able to come home and spend some quality time with family and friends. Everyone who knows anything about medical school knows that during 3rd year, having a little bit of time off is almost unheard of. We decided to make the most of it and spend A LOT of time with one another, making each other and our families part of our “pod.” We would drive around for dates without getting out of the car and have picnics in secluded areas where people could not be seen for miles. Every year, Kais and I had a tradition of going ice skating at Campus Martius Ice Skating Rink in Downtown Detroit. Anyone who knows Kais is aware of how much he hates anything to do with the cold. However, this is one thing he would do for me (Ashna) every year. On February 28, 2021, Kais and I decided to go around on one of our drive-around date days. We drove to Downtown Detroit and saw people skating at the ice rink. Due to COVID, we had not been this year, and I did not know that it was even open to skate. Masks were being enforced at the rink, so in true Ashna fashion, I asked Kais to go. He surprisingly agreed. We walked to the rink, where there was a sign posted that tickets were all sold out for the evening due to limited capacity requirements. Bummed, I began to walk away, upset that we couldn’t go as it was the last day they were open for the year. Kais followed me, yelling, “Where are you going? We have tickets.” I was shocked and super excited as I realized he had planned this out prior to us getting to the rink. We got our skates and began skating around. Kais, not being the best skater, was actually doing a pretty good job keeping himself up; I was impressed. Shortly after taking a couple of rounds, we decided to take a break on the side of the ring. I stopped fully and was looking at the Christmas lights still displayed around the ring while Kais skated up. The next thing I heard was a “thump.” I thought to myself, “Great, here we go again. He fell”. I turned around to help him up, and to my surprise, he was down on one knee ©©© Surprised was an understatement. Time was standing still. Everyone at the ice-skating ring had stopped and was clapping. I turned around, and a group of our friends had gathered, along with our siblings and a bunch more friends present on Facetime from around the country, all there to celebrate our special day. I could not have asked for a more romantic proposal <3
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Venues: In terms of finding venues, we wanted something more intimate for the pre-wedding and wedding events versus larger and unique for the reception.
--SVBF Temple (Wedding): We went with the temple setting for the intimate Hindu wedding ceremony as it fits all the criteria we wanted. We wanted a temple that was beautiful for photos and had a more modern aesthetic. They were able to provide the services we requested and were able to make proper accommodations for our wedding. We were also able to try the delicious food prior to and come up with a customized vegetarian menu for the wedding lunch.
--Meadow Brook Hall (Reception): When searching for a reception venue, we wanted to pick a place more unique than just a hotel banquet hall. We needed something that would allow for 200-250 people and be able to serve/provide food from both cultures (whether through them or catering). The most important was a place that had a personality and history of its own. Meadowbrook Hall fit all our criteria and was absolutely beautiful. We were able to go for an initial tour and tasting prior to the big day. They had their own catering service, which was able to provide stations of food for dinner accommodating both our Indian and Arabic cultures, along with Italian dishes, various salads, appetizers, and phenomenal plated desserts. Meadowbrook Hall also provided us with a day of coordinator who was in constant contact with our wedding planner throughout the planning process. We were able to schedule many meetings with the staff in order to have every detail of our reception made perfect.
Planning and Decor
--Marigold Wedding Planners / Decor: When it came to picking a wedding planner/decorator, we needed someone who was able to see our vision, stick to our budget and provide the wedding and reception of our dreams. Marigold Wedding Planners was able to do all this and so much more. They beautifully executed the decor to match but not clash with outfits worn by not just us but also our immediate family. They were just a phone call a way when it came to any wedding/reception-related matters. They did onsite visits with us for both the wedding/reception venues. As well as taking care of all our vendors, creating timelines, and sending them out in order to coordinate day of events. They were prompt to let us know of any changes. However, they were mindful not to stress out the bride. From planning to decor to floral, I could not have asked for a more flawless experience than Tina and Marigold Wedding Planners.
Hair & Makeup
--Krishna Salon & Spa: For hair/makeup services, I went with Krishna Salon and Spa in Farmington Hills, MI. I chose them as I have known Krishna for a large portion of my life, and she has been serving my family for many years. I trusted her to do my hair/makeup as she is not only good at what she does, she knows what I like and what would look good on me at a more personal level. She was able to take my more minimalistic makeup approach and make it wedding glam. She was able to highlight my natural features without muting it behind loads of makeup. During the hair/makeup trial, she took her time trying out multiple hairstyles and makeup combinations to make sure I was happy with the final product. The overall wedding and reception look turned out to be exactly what I had envisioned.
Photography/Videography/DJ
--Sky Films and Productions: For photography, videography, and DJ purposes, Sky Films and Productions was an easy choice to make. We wanted someone who was offering a bundle deal and was able to provide enough coverage for all 3 days of our wedding event. Gagan with Sky Films and Productions was prompt in answering my initial inquiry, and a written-out brochure with packages was sent right away. It was very simple to book them for our wedding weekend, and we were also lucky enough to be able to use them for our engagement photoshoot. We were so pleased with how our engagement photoshoot worked out that we could not wait to see how our wedding went. They did not disappoint. Our pictures from all 4 events, as well as the videography, were impeccable. The drone footage they took gave us beautiful views of our entire wedding and reception venues. Gagan and the team also provided DJ services for our wedding and reception. They were able to keep the crowd on their feet the entire night. The mixture of Hindi, Arabic, and English songs was perfectly spaced out and allowed everyone to participate and enjoy the night.
Outfits: With the COVID Pandemic being in full swing during our wedding planning process, all our wedding-related outfits were bought online. We were able to contact small shops through larger corporates like Etsy, as well as to contact larger designers in order to custom make outfits for the bride, groom, family, and bridal party. Negotiations were mostly done over the phone through Whatsapp.
-Bridal Lehenga: "KalaNiketan"; Mumbai, India
-Reception Lehenga: "Megha and Jigar" custom-made lehenga India
-Grooms Tuxedo: "ISAIA" custom-made tuxedo
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
For my bridal lehenga, I wanted something more traditional. Being a Gujarati wedding, traditionally you would wear something red. I began my search on various websites and landed on the store 'Kalaniketan", which had many traditional lehengas available. When running it by my mom, she told me that she and my grandma had both previously shopped at the store, for other occasions, including some of their wedding outfits. I thought it would be nice to buy my bridal lehenga from there and keep the tradition within the family. I found a lehenga that I loved, which was red and pink with gold embroidery work and accents. It was absolutely stunning and completely hand stitched. It was the dress I always pictured myself wearing. Felt like a princess on my wedding day.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part for me of the planning process was seeing everything coming together. Growing up watching Bollywood movies, you always kind of have a standard to which you want your wedding to be held. In my case, I had a rough idea of what I wanted and needed to implement that the best I could with a set budget. Marigold Planners, along with my mother and sister, really helped in making this process much easier. They were there for the support and ideas, as well as to help make conscious decisions whenever needed. Individually deciding on decor, flowers, lighting, etc., was hard when you didn't have the final picture. Planning outfits for us, as well as our family and friends that doesn't clash with the decor; was a milestone in itself. However, when it all came together, the final product was the dream I had envisioned. Everything was to a tee and looked like it was all supposed to be put together the way it was presented. Seeing this made every fight, disagreement, and shed tear worth it.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
FOOD! We had a total of 4 events (haldi, sangeet/mehndi, wedding, and reception. For my family, food is the most important thing when it comes to an event. We always want our guests to be able to enjoy good food, no matter what the occasion. In this case, it was important for us to have a variety of different food at each event but not repeat the type of food or specific entree more than once. We decided on food themes for each event that correlated with the type of event as well as the people attending.
For our intimate Haldi ceremony we stuck to a catered traditional Gujarati food menu, including different curries, rice, roti, etc., as well as more Gujarati staples of khandvi, dhokla, and undhiyu.
For our Sangeet/Mehendi night, we wanted to cater more to the demographic. So more people who were not Indian and who ate meat. We decided to go with a full Indian catered menu comprising more traditionally known dishes. These included chicken tikka masala, chili chicken, gobi manchurian, chili paneer, various vegetable curries, dals, rice, naans, etc.
The Wedding Ceremony was held at the temple, meaning all the food had to be vegetarian. The food was all-encompassed with the temple and was cooked by volunteer chefs in the kitchen. the spread consisted of both North and South Indian food and definitely had the homemade touch.
The Reception was the largest event that we had, with over 200 people in attendance. We needed to make sure to include dishes from both India and Tunisia, as well as making sure not to step over cultural and religious boundaries. With that being said, we had no red meat and no alcohol at our reception. For our signature drink, we went with a mocktail mojito. For appetizers, we had Thai curry samosa, spinach with lemon-zest and feta in phyllo, tandoori chicken satay with raita, and horn island gulf shrimp. For dinner, we decided on a station-style setting where everyone could go station-to-station and get the food type they would like to eat. We had 4 stations comprising a salad station ( 4 different types of salad), an Indian station, an Arabic station, and an Italian pasta station. People enjoyed this so much as they were able to go and choose from over 20 different dishes from all over the world. They were able to go at there own pace and were able to try things they may have never thought to try before. Plated dessert was then given at each seat comprising of wedding cake, chocolate torte, crème brûlée, and NY cheesecake.
By the end of the wedding celebrations and till this day, people come up to us and admire the food and how much they ate at our wedding. People enjoyed themselves to the fullest, which was our main goal when it came to the food and arrangements.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
There were many special moments that replay in my mind from our wedding. Starting from the first dance, daddy-daughter dance, various family/friend speeches, dances, etc. All these moments, as well as just having all our loved ones around, really did make this week extra special for both of us. However, in terms of my most special moment from the wedding week, it would definitely be Our First Look. I had not seen Kais's sherwani prior to the wedding day, so when we arrived for our first look and I opened my eyes, I was stunned. He looked like a real MAHARAJA. Everything from the sherwani, jewelry, shoes, and the turban was just mind-blowing. Walking up to him, I could not keep thinking about how much we had overcome throughout our relationship and how we finally made it to this day. The tears in our eyes summed up exactly how we felt at that moment.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Relax, and don't lash out at your loved ones. It may not always seem like it, but they are on your side.
Our magical journey is over today, but don't forget to be back for more inspirational stories here!
