Naples, FL Indian Fusion Wedding by Jacqui Cole Photography

When this med student and nurse met, they didn't know that study dates would turn into the biggest moment in their lives. After many home-cooked meals by Zach, it was a walk down a Mexican beach when it all hit our bride and the pieces of a surprise engagement started coming together. After instantly crying, laughing, and saying yes simultaneously, the couple flew back to celebrate their engagement over the Christmas holidays with their families and friends.

The bride always wanted a destination wedding, but when logistics came into play the couple decided to keep it in Florida, so it gave them all the destination feels with more control over the planning process. A simple coffee meeting with Tracie Domino Events and Jacqui Cole Photography made the bride's selection easy. She said they instantly clicked and they were the best decision hands down.

The bride always envisioned herself in a yellow lengha. And, she was committed to finding the perfect one! After shopping trips to New Jersey, New York, and Toronto left her empty-handed. She went to Vancouver to find the special number. Vivah made the process easy and fun for the bride as she was able to create custom outfits for her Sangeet and Wedding.

From the live band at the reception to the upbeat melodies by Pavan Events and the Sangeet dances, this couple enjoyed every moment of their celebration.

"Do what you want and don't let others influence a decision just to make them happy – big families have lots of opinions but at the end of the day, it is your wedding so make it yours. Also, make sure to have alone time with the groom during the day – we had lunch alone together after our ceremony before getting ready for the Christian ceremony and reception and it was perfect."

Congratulations Marisha & Zach!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Zach and I met while he was in Medical School and I was working full time as a nurse while in school for my nurse practitioner degree as well. When we met and started dating a lot of our days would consist of a lot of studying together – and in our down time it was just enjoying each others company – Zach is an amazing cook, and always jokes that if med school hadn’t worked out he would have become a chef so most of our down time was spent relaxing with homecooked meals and Netflix. One of our first extended breaks together was about a year and a half after we had met, and we decided that before spending the Christmas holiday with our families, we spend a week in Mexico on our own. Thinking back on it now I could see all the clues were there but I wasn’t suspicious at all at the time. My friends all asked if “ I was ready for the trip with my nails done etc etc….” and would ask me about what I was wearing, and Zach was also being very protective of his backpack (that had the ring) – which was very out of the norm …. Zach planned a private dinner on the beach the first night we were at the resort and it wasn’t till we were walking down to our dinner that I realized what was happening. We still joke that we both pretty much instantly started laughing and crying as soon as he got down on one knee I don’t even remember what he said or saying yes – but overall it was perfection. We spend the rest of the week just relaxing on the beach in Mexico before flying back Christmas Eve to celebrate with our families for the next week!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I don’t even remember when but I know 2 people I had been following on social media for years before the wedding (and even before I met Zach) were my planner Tracie Domino & photographer Jacqui Cole. The day that we flew back from Mexico (post proposal) my parents actually couldn’t even pick us up from the airport because they were at another local wedding that Tracie was planning and I was furiously texting my mom about all the details. While on our layover I emailed Tracie and got her out of office message till after the holidays. I knew she only does a few events a year so I was just keeping my fingers crossed till that mid January time when she got back to me and confirmed meeting.

I was so busy with school / work that I didn’t see how I would have even done it without her.

I had always considered a destination wedding but with so many moving parts to the 5 day celebration we did – after lots of consideration we decided to keep the wedding to a venue in Florida. Like with choosing a planner there was only a handful of Florida destinations I would even consider – and they ranged from Orlando to Miami.

We also had to take into consideration dates – we settled on only a few weekends that would have worked in Spring 2020 – Zach would be matching into his residency program mid March and we would be moving somewhere undecided that June so we settled on April / early May. That narrowed down venues significantly – and the Ritz Carlton Naples, which has always been a TOP choice was very accomadating to all of our various venue/ballroom needs/ rooms/ dates and it was so gorgeous on the beach – so it still kind of felt like a destination we didn’t need to fly to.

When Tracie told me Jacqui Cole was avail that weekend it was a no brainer- I had admired her work on IG forever. We met for coffee one afternoon and spoke for hours and just clicked. Hands down best decision

Tracie made the wedding planning seamless – I have been planning and re-planning wedding ideas for years on pinterest and during all of our design meetings I essentially just pulled up my pinterest board and asked “can we make this happen” – and between Tracie and Amanda at MMD events – they made my dream wedding come true.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I always knew I wanted to wear a yellow lengha. I cant really explain it but I knew in my mind exactly what I wanted but between shopping in Toronto, Jersey, New York – I was just not finding what I wanted. Through some friends I kept getting suggestions to go to Vancouver so I took of a few days and went with my mom. It was also sucha seamless process. After visiting a few of the stores in the Surrey area I found a beautiful inspo lengha in a burgundy color – and using that as my base inspiration I fully customized the lengha. In the process I also designed the most amazinggggggggg sangeet outfit which I think I still love even more than my wedding lengha!
Vivah made it a real one stop shop because we customized all the grooms outfits, families, and bridal party kurtas and sarees. It was such a fun process.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Just the overall design process and seeing it all come together. Food and cake tasting was also super fun!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Grand Bevy – custom craft cocktail
The Band  -- we went with an Indian DJ for the sangeet night and he also coordinated the baarat for us as well – but for the reception we opted for a band which a lot of our guests had never been to a wedding with a live band so that was unique and enjoyable! It was like being at a concert!
Also all of our sangeet performances were on point! such a fun night

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Honestly the whole week – depending on what I think about – but it also wernt by too fast I am SO thankful to have had amazing videographers to capture all the moments that I just rewatch [almost] daily.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Do what you want and don’t let others influence a decision just to make them happy – big families have lots of opinions but at the end of the day, it is your wedding so make it yours.  Make sure to have alone time with the groom during the day – we had lunch alone together after our ceremony before getting ready for the Christian ceremony and reception and it was perfect. Just got to chill and unwind together.

Frederick, MD Indian Fusion Wedding by Raj Photo Video

Friday, Love-day! Maharanis, a new magical story comes your way, Kinjel & Sam's. My dears, let me ask you this, how romantic is it to receive a proposal at the same place where you kissed for the very first time? I think it is beyond romantic! That is how this journey began. We know an Indian Fusion Wedding can be hard to plan, but thanks to the dedication Golden Door Events offers, every detail of this celebration excelled our couple's expectations. Glen Ellen Farm is the venue where these lovebirds decided to start their life together as one soul, and they couldn't have chosen a better place to do it. Liz Decorations was in charge of the decoration of this place, and let me tell you; they put together a heavenly fairytale. Our bride and groom wanted to celebrate their love uniquely; that is why King Entertainment put their best musical touch and made everyone dance. Along with great music comes excellent catering. One of the top leading Indian catering companies, Rupa Vira's The Signature, prepared the most delicious meal that represented Kinjel & Sam's taste. Now, let's talk about how gorgeous our Maharani looked during the entire festivities! Kiya & Company and Couture Bridal of Maryland and their exclusive designs made Kinjel look perfectly charming. EMPOWDER by Amola Surya made her makeup and hair, and let me tell you, I adore the way she looked! We also have to mention how handsome the groom looked, thanks to Men's Wearhouse. He is genuinely Kinjel's one true love! Maharanis, the best part of this celebration of love is the most outstanding collection of memories put together by Raj Photo Video. If you check out the gallery, I promise you will fall in love with these pictures. They are an absolute visual delight you don't want to miss!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
My husband and I met when we were 18 years old and had our first date (and many more after) at Centennial Park which was a local park near our houses. We had just graduated high school in June 2012 and were about to begin our undergraduate careers in August 2012. He went to a different university but transferred over to Towson University (where I went) after our freshman. We knew this was it for us and wanted to spend more time together by attending the same university. He and I did everything together, and helped each other grow into the adults we are today. I knew he was "the one" around graduation time in May 2016. As I reflected on our time together, I knew I wanted to spend forever with him.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
He proposed at Centennial Park, where we shared our first kiss and date. It was the sweetest, most thoughtful proposal as he did it exactly in front of the bench we sat at. He even perfectly planned it to have my family and friends around the corner as he knew how important that would mean to me.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Our wedding was planned to be in May 2020 at another venue for the hindu wedding. Due to COVID, we had to move the wedding outdoors to help our guests feel more comfortable to attend. This was a huge undertaking given that we were planning our wedding at another venue entirely. We were so stressed and overwhelmed but persevered to have the wedding of dreams. I found an outdoor wedding venue and it was so dreamy. I knew I had to get married at Glen Ellen Farm for the hindu wedding, and we went ahead with the process. The Christian wedding did not change other than the guest count being decreased.

Given we were planning two wedding, everything was much more complicated when it came to planning. The Christian Mallu wedding was something I had never seen before so I had to learn all of their rituals and understand what will be happening. Same thing Sam had to do for the Hindu Wedding. While we had religious and cultural differences, our families showed no divide or differences and only wanted the best for us. They loved how we were cherishing our love rather than making our religion and cultures an issue. Our parents and siblings were so helpful, loving and accommodating to the entire situation. They were willing to redo all of the food tastings and see the new venue. All our our vendors were extremely accommodating with the changes and new set up. They were truly the dream team I've always wished for for my wedding.

I loved my hair and makeup every single event which was perfectly executed by Amola. She made me feel like a princess and her work is flawless.

My outfits were perfectly coordinated and the decor team blew us away, they were exceptionally great.

The food was also so unique and exactly how we requested. I highly recommend Rupa Vira for wedding catering.

The DJs for both weddings did an incredible job! During the Hindu wedding, Digvesh from King Entertainment announced my entrance so beautifully that I still have tears watching my entrance. It was majestic. He also did an amazing job during the Baraat and Reception in the evening. The Christian Wedding DJ, Tajinder Singh, was also exceptional and played the best songs all night!

RajPhotoVideo was the perfect team for us. They captured our events so perfectly and were so fun to work with. My husband owns a photo/video company of his own (TrueLifeStudio) and we wanted a photo/video team to capture our special week similiar to his style. RajPhotoVideo did just that and more! Highly recommend this team without a doubt. The pictures speak for themselves, they are flawless.

Finally, my wedding planners were outstanding. They did everything to make our special day perfect. They not only helped replan our wedding, but helped create a new rain plan the night before our wedding with my amazing husband who stayed up to ensure the mandap was perfectly aligned with the backdrop of the beautiful venue. It was so surreal, dreamy, and felt liked a movie.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I custom designed my bridal lengha, my husbands outfit, and our jewelry as I had a very particular vision in mind and could not settle for anything less. I worked on my lengha for 8-9 months, with multiple revisions and changes along the way. I knew I wanted to wear ivory with pinks, greens, and gold. I specifically didnt want too much gold overpowering my lengha and I wanted birds as a symbol of our unity, love, prosperity and peace in our marriage. Two birds together are in a flower garden, consuming nectar from the same flower. This is another expression of how we will be two hearts beating as one soul.

Once my lengha was complete, I coordinate my husbands outfit and jewelry to match it perfectly.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Desiging my outfits, sams outfits, and wedding party outfits.

I also loved selecting outfits for my parents, grandmother and brother, as well as his parents and sister.

It was so fun doing dance practice with my family and friends. That really brought the wedding spirit alive!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Guests loved the decor, cake, our outfits, the food, venue, etc. They honestly were blown away from our wedding and how well it was executed by our amazing planners. They did everything in their power to make our wedding perfect. Guests specifically mentioned how they could feel the love between Sam and I, and it felt like a movie the entire weekend. They also felt we were considerate of their safety and comfort during the wedding events. It truly touched our hearts as we thought through every single detail to perfection.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
1. Mehndi night with my close friends and family. Also getting my mehndi done as it was very special as my mami (a professional henna artist in the DMV) did my mehndi with so much love and consideration of what I wanted. It was so beautiful.

2. Haldi ceremony: it was perfectly executed as a joint haldi with my husband. Since my husband is Christian, we knew their tradition doesnt involve a haldi but we both are Bollywood fanatics and couldnt resist having our "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" moment from the song "Kabira". And yes it was on replay!!

3. My entrance during both weddings. The hindu wedding i was walked down by my mama and mami (moms brother and his wife) who are so near and dear to my heart. It was so special. During the christian wedding, my parents walked my down and it was a dream come true. Wearing a white dress was so magical and something I never thought I would experience. I consider myself so blessed and lucky.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Mendhi: It was an outdoor setup where family and friends could enjoy some music, dance performances, and kick off the weekend with joy and laughter. Since we did not have a garba/sangeet due to COVID, we wanted this event to be little liver then your typical mendhi night. Decor was stunning and my outfit was perfectly designed. Sam and I both did individual performances with our friends, and everyone had a great time!

Grah Shanti: Let me start with the decor! We loved it and it blew us away that we had such an amazing backdrop in our home for my grah shanti. Sam and I had a pre-grah shanti shoot at the Turf Valley Resort, and then I had my pooja. The pooja was so great to be surrounded by family and close friends. I started feeling all of the emotions during this event.

Haldi: Decor was so grand and i loved having a combined haldi event. Everyone told us this was the best haldi they have ever been to and it was an honor putting haldi on the groom. I felt so many emotions but couldnt help but smile, laugh, and dance the ENTIRE time. I truly felt like I had "the bridal glow" after this event and was ready to get married the next day.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
1. Don't let your differences interfere with love. Where there is a will, there is a way.

2. Being a COVID bride is one of the hardest challenges I've had to face. Keep your head up and walk into your wedding week with confidence. Trust your vendors and remember you only get to live through this amazing experience once so cherish each and every moment.

3. Always keep a smile on your face because you never know when the camera is watching!

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
I would marry my husband over and over again. He knows me inside and out, and would give me the world. He is truly my person!

That is it for today, me beloved Maharanis! Come back on Monday to start a new week with love and romantic stories.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
My husband proposed to me in nature! Him knowing I love nature, so he decided to propose to me at a beautiful park in the Chicago suburbs. He had the area decorated with roses and had pictures of us all over the Gazebo and proposed to me.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
After doing a lot of searching on how to get started we decided to get a wedding planner. We got lucky and partnered up with J2R who held our hands throughout the whole planning. With covid, we werent sure if our venue would even be open or allow the number of guests but everything worked in our favor. Planning for outfits was hard as we wanted to go to India and shop but I got lucky again and ended up ordering my designer outfits from Atlanta and nearby store in Chicago. My mom did family shopping all from India via videoconferencing and my best friend in India shopped for my jewelry. It was so heartwarming to see all the family members and friends putting in effort preparing up to our big day!  Since this was a two states wedding, myself hailing from North India and my husband from Kerala, we had a fusion Hindu and Catholic ceremony. It was double the work and double the stress, but we made it! My in laws bought the most beautiful Kerala sarees for the ceremony from Beena Kanan and Jayalaxmi. I am a nature lover, so the theme for the wedding was lush greenery. For the hindu ceremony, I was adamant about having an outdoor location and after doing lots of research, we came across Lincolnshire Marriott Resort which had lush greenery and a lake in the back. We were able to design a mandap full of roses and eucalyptus which came out just like I wanted. However, my vision for both ceremonies and reception was to make it feel a little bit like a jungle. Thankfully, everything came to fruition, the way I wanted and even got my pup to be part of my big day.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I always wanted to go the traditional red route for the the hindu ceremony. Its a color that never goes out of style. Now, the real deal was how do we get in touch with the Sabyasachi store since we could not go to India. Upon further research, we came across The Bollywood Closet who works alongside the Sabyasachi team in India and helps brides living in the US get their Sabysachi outfits. With me being a big Sabyasachi fan, my fiance at that time drove me to Atlanta, to get my outfit and it was a dream come true!!! The moment I walked into the showroom, I knew which one I wanted. For the Catholic wedding, we opted for a beautiful silver saree and for the mantharkodi ritual, a beautiful heavy maroon saree was used. These were both brought by my in laws from Kerala. However, the search for my outfits was not over. I have been following Falguni Shane Peacock for a while and knew I had to get my hands on their magnificent pieces. I got super lucky and got in touch with Studio East. They are a multi designer store based in Chicago for Indian bridal and party wear. I got my reception piece from them and could not stop admiring the piece the moment I saw it.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning was venue shopping! This is probably one of the most important parts of the planning!!! Going to different places and imagining our big day made it exciting!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The guests loved the fusion! This wedding truly brought the two states together! It was like watching 2 states all over again. Our reception was loved by everyone specially when the boys danced to lungi
Dance. Our different cultures definitely brought its own set of challenges during the planning, however, that made it unique and everyone got to see the beauty of both cultures.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
There is definitely a special moment that replays in my mind and it was during the pheras. It made both of us very emotional as we had come a very long way and our union was here. Our love story was not the easiest coming from different cultures and religion but through years of hard work, we were standing here around the holy fire and ready to be husband and wide. During the pheras, we had the same song that played during the movie 2 states, when the characters were taking pheras and thinking of their long journey. Here we were in the same spot as them. It was definitely a moment I couldnt forget.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Our decor remained pretty consistent for all our events- green and lush!!!! If I could, I wouldve had my events in a jungle.

For the hindu ceremony, the grooms family came in full on south indian style. The women wore traditional kerala sarees and the men wore mundus! For the catholic ceremony, my bridesmaids wore a beautiful white/gold anarkalis.

My friends and cousins put together different dances and I did a mix of hindi/tamil/malaylam dance to surprise my husband. The groomsmen killed the dance floor and gave power packed performances. They went so hard they got some lungis stuck on the ceiling of the venue which made the guests die with laughter.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Wedding planning as you know is very stressful but remember the end goal and not get caught up in little silly things. This moment flys by, so make sure to capture those moments and not let things get to you.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Most of my jewelry came from India, picked specially by my best friend. We shopped for jewelry in nearby Chicago as well.

Since I am a vegan, I made sure to have vegan dishes and desserts at all events. Our cake was tiered and we had vegan/non vegan layers on the wedding cake as well!
