Orlando, FL Indian Fusion Wedding by Jensen Larson Photography

Roshni prepares for her big day in Orlando, Florida. The hair and makeup at Makeover Station line her heavenly hazel-green eyes with black liner on the upper and lower lash lids. The lips are a bold red and the hair is beautifully pulled up away from her flawless face. Adding even more artistic detail to her look is artist Tejal Henna with a lovely mehndi design. Our Maharani looks gorgeous from head to toe in her Anita Dongre lengha choli! You can see more shots, courtesy of Jensen Larson Photography, in the gallery!

From the bride, on the hair and makeup:

"I wanted something natural and timeless and Makeover Station really came through for me and my bridal party. I had pinned lots of potential updoes and downdoes on Pinterest, but ended up choosing a loose undo with curls so that all my hair was pulled back away from my face with a central parting so that the tikka could fall well. Uncannily, my hair style was very similar to the my mothers on her wedding day 29 years ago. For my beautiful bridal party which comprised my cousins and aunts, I let them choose a hairstyle and lengha of their choice to pair with a very natural cream bouquet which turned out beautifully."

On the bridal fashion:

"We went on a whirlwind power shopping tour of Mumbai September of 2014 for 5 days and found my wedding lengha by chance while at the Anita Dongre store. They had brought lots of new outfits back to the store after a completing fashion show in Delhi the night before for their new bridal line. We were walking up the stairs while one of the employees was walking down the stairs holding a beautiful red raw silk lengha and my mom and I looked at each other and said, "That's the one."

The cremony shots are coming right up!

From the bride, on how they met:

"Corey and I met in Calculus class in August of 2005. I was one of the displaced Hurricane Katrina students from Tulane was new to University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Corey sat behind me on my first day and he and I exchanged numbers for a group project and became friends. We were both pre-med and ended up being lab partners and taking many of the same classes. He asked me to officially be his girlfriend after dinner with a letter (I still have) on October 17, 2007 and the rest is history. We applied to medical school together after graduating college in 2009 and matched into our respective residency programs March of 2013. Corey has always been calming presence and made even the most causal of outings so special. He put up with all my moods, my midnight cleaning sessions, and entertained all my crazy ideas. I knew Corey was the one because he loved me for me, unconditionally, and most importantly took me as I am, and for that I fall more and more in love every single day."

On the proposal:

"My sister, Sonali, and Corey planned the most romantic proposal. I was actually trying to surprise Corey with a fun weekend getaway on Clearwater Beach during our intern year for his birthday in April of 2014. I had talked to my sister about ideas and she sneakily said that my mom had Hilton points that were going to expire soon and that she would take care of it and book the hotel for me and send me a confirmation via email. Later, I found out Sonali send me a photoshopped confirmation because Corey had booked the hotel the whole time to surprise me with a proposal at sunset overlooking the beach. I was so proud of myself for planning a surprise beach day with paddle boarding and jet-skiing and dinner, but Corey was scheming all along. We had early dinner because I had made reservations on the outdoor patio at one of his favorite restaurants for his birthday at Island Way Grill to enjoy dinner and the sunset. He was unusually nervous at dinner he ordered lots of rounds of drinks which was very unlike him and was eating really fast (faster than usual). After dinner, he insisted we go back to the hotel and watch the sunset which I was fighting him on because I had made these specific reservations outside to watch it at the restaurant. When we got back to the hotel after being annoyed in the car, I opened the door only find the carpet laden with rose petals, orchid flower arrangements, lavender scented candles, and tea lights that said "will you marry me?" He had champagne glasses engraved with our names and a photo collage all set up on our private balcony. As I was trying to take it all in I looked over and he was already down on one knee. He asked me how long we had been together and rhetorically answered 6 years, 5 months, 19 days. I was truly shocked and could not stop staring at the beautiful ring he had in his hand. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a flash and it was my college friend Hela who was a photographer who had captured all of it. We took a few engagement photos on the balcony and enjoyed champagne at sunset. I could not have asked for a more perfect proposal. Corey and my sister pulled off the perfect reverse surprise."

From the bride, on the first dance:

"Our first dance song was a Thousand Years, by Christina Perri. I love pop/country and Pavan loves anything he can dance to. We listened to "top first dance song" playlists and decided this one fit us the best. We had also liked John Legend's, All of Me, but had heard it at 4 other weddings that year so decided we wanted to have something different."

Additional details:

" We had an amazing cake!!! We had 5 different flavors of which my favorites were golden butter with a white chocolate caramel mousse filling and almond cake with a chocolate strawberry mousse. My in-laws bought me a beautiful diamond necklace/earrings set that I wore to the reception. I wore a combination of my mom's and specially purchased necklaces for the wedding sari. My mendhi lady did such a good job. It took a little over 4 hours to complete both my hands/legs but it was so intricate and perfect. Per tradition, she hid the letters of Pavan's name on my hands so he had to find it before the wedding. I had initially wanted an outdoor wedding, but due to space restrictions and weather... I was told it was impossible. We found a beautiful "garden pavilion" at the Ritz Charles which was the best of both worlds... ie had a roof but glass on all sides. All of our decorations were well thought out to match the outdoorsy feel with corals, teals, white and we even draped the ceiling with pretty fabric. Unfortunately, it flooded the day before our sangeet, which was a blessing in disguise since it was hot and humid, and the inside "backup" room was air conditioned. Both our wedding and reception were at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis, and all the Hyatt staff/decor company/Tara Nicole Weddings did a great job flipping our wedding space into reception room within 4 hours. I carried a red rose/raspberry calla lilies bouquet, which my bridesmaids carried raspberry calla bouquets."

Hope you were taking notes, ladies! See ya next time!

From the bride, on how they met:

"We met on Cinco de Mayo in downtown Indianapolis. I was out with my friends, and thought Pavan looked familiar. After a few minutes of talking, we realized that Pavan’s sister was best friends with one of my ‘big sisters’ growing up, Reisha. Two days later, we went out on our first date to Barcelona Tapas and then dancing at Sensu. Luckily, Pavan was already smitten with me when I left for India a few days later. We managed to talk 1-2 hours a day long distance (racking up a pretty hefty phone bill) for the entire month I was over there, even though I had to sneak away from my family so that they would not catch me talking to a boy. Pavan convinced my mom into letting him pick me up from the airport, by promising to bring me a peanut butter & jelly sandwich. We have been pretty much inseparable since then :)"

On the proposal:

"For our 1 year anniversary, we had planned to take Friday off of work to spend the day together. However, at the last minute, I decided I couldn’t miss another day of my pharmacy residency rotation and went to work (clearly had no idea Pavan was planning on proposing). Pavan ended up having to pull some major strings to make the following happen… He showed up to the hospital at lunch with a big bouquet of roses and told me he was taking me out to lunch. I refused to hold the flowers at the hospital and required major convincing to even leave for lunch. He took me to Barcelona Tapas, where we had our first date (hint #1). After assuring me that I had the rest of the day off, he took me to the Indianapolis Museum of Art where we had wanted to visit before moving to Chicago, and he had packed a picnic of chocolate covered strawberries & champagne (hint #2). Then, he took me to get massages, and was being even nicer than usual (hint #3). That night our parents were meeting for the first time, so a big dinner had been planned. However, on our way home, he called his parents who were conveniently stuck in traffic and mine were at the neighbors (hint #4). Once we got to my house, he led me outside which was decorated beautifully with roses and candles (thanks to my sister-in-law-Pooja!), and got down on one knee. Shocked beyond belief, he took me upstairs and I was surprised again by both of our families. My mom who never drinks recommended we go get champagne, and SURPRISE all of my bestfriends were downstairs waiting. (I clearly need new friends who don’t hide things from me!!) I couldn’t have imagined a better engagement, AND we got to spend it with all of our loved ones."

On the lenghas:

"My family is Marathi/Konkani so I knew I had to wear a sari for the wedding... despite watching hours of Say Yes To The Dress and wanting a white dress! I found some "ideas" on Pintrest, but figured I would know what I wanted when I saw it. We went shopping in Mumbai for my wedding outfits and to my disappointment I couldn't find much that I liked initially. I knew I wanted something bright for the sangeet. I ended up finding my wedding sari and sangeet lengha at Seasons in Mumbai. Another Marathi custom is wearing orange/green, which are colors that look absolutely awful on me. My wedding sari was red with off-white pleats with motifs, and a blue blouse which made my mother happy. I tried on many reception lenghas, but many of them were  too heavy for me to hold up comfortably. I also don't like neon colors or velvet, which were in style when we went shopping. I found my reception lengha at Kalki in Mumbi and had the blouse custom made. I thought I wanted a white lengha for the reception, but loved my red/orange ombre lengha so much that I didn't look back!"

On the hair and makeup:

"I already knew I wanted my hair half up for the sangeet, all up for the wedding and all down for the reception. I found many styles I liked on Pinterest, and tried many of them with my hair stylist beforehand to make sure they looked good on me as well. I don't wear a lot of makeup normally, so didn't want the makeup to be "too much". We went with some reds/neutral tones for the wedding/reception, and some brighter pinks to match my lengha for the sangeet. My hair/makeup stylists from Karen Hall & Co had me bring all my wedding outfits to the trial to make sure everything looked nice together."

On friends and family helping:

Some of my friends did dances at the Sangeet, but the two biggest surprises were 1) my Dad's college friends from IIT and their wives danced to Fevicol Se from Dabangg 2 which was AMAZING! 2) Pavan and our family/friends did a flash mob to Chumak Chalo during the reception which was so fun."

See the bride getting ready for the big day, next!
