San Jose, CA Indian Wedding by Janet Love Photography

We are headed to the capital of Silicon Valley for Abe and Vaishali's Indian wedding celebration in San Jose, California! Janet Love Photography is kicking things off with the festive sangeet party at the Shannon Community Center. Per pre-wedding tradition, this bash is all about color! Vibrant gold and fuchsia fabric drape the stage, and charming decor is placed on every table, giving the sangeet a true Designer's Touch. The table height is low—ideal for the intimate cushion-styled seating. Stylishly dressed for the occasion is our Maharani looking delightful in a beautiful sari by the wildly popular Sari Palace! She is joined by her handsome groom-to-be looking wonderful in a dark suit and tie. We've got tons more to uncover from this D. Royal Engagementsplanned event, so in the meantime, check out the gallery to see more of the pre-wedding decor!

From the bride, on the proposal:

"Abe and I had just opened a law office together about a month before he proposed. The week of the proposal, we had a stressful filing due but were all finished with it by Thursday. Naturally we were both exhausted by the time Friday rolled around. I didn't think much of it when Abe said to me on Friday morning that he wanted to take the day off and have a spontaneous fun day. I figured he wanted a fun end to the stressful week. We went to brunch and then a winery in Livermore-- it was one of the wineries we went to on a date early in our relationship. Not surprisingly, the winery was pretty much empty on a Friday afternoon! We sat outside and Abe had saved a bunch of pictures on his phone from throughout our relationship. I still didn't think much of it as he scrolled through the pictures and we reminisced about our relationship. I guess I just thought he was being sentimental! The funny thing is, I have a pet peeve when we are on dates or having quality time and Abe checks his phone too much. So I saw that he kept adjusting his pocket and I blurted out "jeez if you want to check your phone so badly just check it!" I can admit now that I was WAY wrong-- he kept checking to make sure the ring hadn't fallen out! Whoops! After we look at the pictures, Abe asked me to take a walk with him in the vineyards. Now, anyone who knows me knows that I get worried about breaking the rules. So all I kept thinking was we were going to get in trouble for walking through the vineyards. As I kept looking over my shoulder to make sure security wasn't running after us, Abe was planning his next move! It turns out the distraction of not wanting to get in trouble was the perfect way to keep me unaware of Abe's nerves and plans! Once we made it through the vineyards, Abe suggested we take a selfie. We took one and of course my future hubby knew that I would immediately want to see the selfie to make sure I liked how I looked. When we were reviewing the picture, Abe said he thought something was wrong with the picture and something was missing. Then he said he had an idea of what might be missing and he pulled out the ring! From what I'm told, the things he said next were very sweet and at some point he asked me to be his wife, but I'll be honest I was in a daze as soon as I realized what was happening and I don't remember what he even said!"

See the bride getting ready for her big day, next!

From the bride, on the first dance:

From the bride, on her favorite part of planning:

"I loved sharing unforgettable memories, laughs, and lots of opinions with my mom and sister. My mom is a fantastic designer, incredibly hospitable, with a sharp eye for the finer things in life, and my sister is a very honest and the most elegant person I know, so wedding planning was that much easier with these two by my side."

On the wedding style:

"Corey and I were college sweethearts and shared almost a decade of memories together and so we wanted our wedding to be a reflection of timeless love. My mom and I had been planning this special day since I was little girl and when Corey proposed on April 5, 2014 all the details that we had been talking about for years fell into place beautifully with the help of our dream team of vendors just eight months later. Corey and I have opposite personalities. He is the quiet, level headed one and he often describes me as fun-loving and spontaneous. We kept that in mind and wanted our theme to be not only a fusion style wedding, but one with elegance and glamour. Corey helped with some of the fine details, but he let my mom, sister, and I enjoy this time together to organize a wedding we had been planning for years. We wanted a traditional Indian ceremony because of the beautiful meaning behind the Sanskrit words that would be uniting us that day, but wanted to write our own vows to each other as well. I had always dreamed of wearing a white gown for part of my wedding day and because we had an Indian ceremony I surprised Corey with a white bridal gown and veil. We danced the night away with our close friends and family and ended the most perfect weekend with a sparkler sendoff. Our special weekend was truly unforgettable thanks to our amazing vendors, our sweet friends and loving family."

On a special moment:

"Our vows were the special and emotional part of our ceremony. Corey and I had written them and given them to my sister, Sonali. She had read them over and approved them and was in charge of giving them to us during the Varamala after we placed our wedding garlands on each other and the priest placed a unifying cotton thread around us to bless our union as husband and wife. We both cried unexpectedly and so did our family and friends. After we took our first seven steps together as husband and wife, my dad unexpectedly said "you may kiss the bride," and with that we sealed the most magical ceremony with our first kiss."

On special details:

"It was really special that Corey's family and friends and our mutual friends put in the time and effort to dress for the occasion with sarees, kurtas, lenghas, and salwar kameezes. The mendhi night was so much fun and all the ladies were able to partake in the lucky henna tradition before the wedding day. "

The reception celebration is straight ahead!

Heating things up for their elegant Indian wedding reception are our lovebirds looking sensational in their post bash attire. From the bride, on the first dance:

"Our first dance song was a Thousand Years, by Christina Perri. I love pop/country and Pavan loves anything he can dance to. We listened to "top first dance song" playlists and decided this one fit us the best. We had also liked John Legend's, All of Me, but had heard it at 4 other weddings that year so decided we wanted to have something different."

Additional details:

" We had an amazing cake!!! We had 5 different flavors of which my favorites were golden butter with a white chocolate caramel mousse filling and almond cake with a chocolate strawberry mousse. My in-laws bought me a beautiful diamond necklace/earrings set that I wore to the reception. I wore a combination of my mom's and specially purchased necklaces for the wedding sari. My mendhi lady did such a good job. It took a little over 4 hours to complete both my hands/legs but it was so intricate and perfect. Per tradition, she hid the letters of Pavan's name on my hands so he had to find it before the wedding. I had initially wanted an outdoor wedding, but due to space restrictions and weather... I was told it was impossible. We found a beautiful "garden pavilion" at the Ritz Charles which was the best of both worlds... ie had a roof but glass on all sides. All of our decorations were well thought out to match the outdoorsy feel with corals, teals, white and we even draped the ceiling with pretty fabric. Unfortunately, it flooded the day before our sangeet, which was a blessing in disguise since it was hot and humid, and the inside "backup" room was air conditioned. Both our wedding and reception were at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis, and all the Hyatt staff/decor company/Tara Nicole Weddings did a great job flipping our wedding space into reception room within 4 hours. I carried a red rose/raspberry calla lilies bouquet, which my bridesmaids carried raspberry calla bouquets."

Hope you were taking notes, ladies! See ya next time!

From the bride, on the wedding style:

"I knew I wanted my sangeet to be "summery" so chose teal, coral and white as the colors. Our "garden pavilion" venue was going to compliment that quite nicely. However, for the wedding/reception, I wanted the event to be a mix of raspberry, purples, and pinks (super girly!) with some bling accents. Our decorators (Elegance Decor) did a great job making it all happen, making sure it wasn't tacky or overdone. We opened up my Mandap to be the backdrop of our reception stage, and had a gorgeous floral chandelier above the mandap."

On her favorite part of planning:

"At the end getting to be married to Pavan! I actually didn't really like the planning itself as it was super stressful, so I was very glad to have a planner to help me through the crazy time!"

The reception celebration is right around the corner!
