Sugar Land, Texas Indian Wedding by Bella Lumi

Bina and Vishal met the old fashion way. In college, at a typical frat house party. However, that was it and the couple went their own ways and from that day on never crossed paths again. It wasn't until about 6 YEARS later at a friend’s BBQ that things really started to steam up and here we are; reporting this lovely couple’s wedding! As soon as Vishal popped the question, the gears really started churning with Rathi Menon Events spearheading wedding planning and design. The Pre-ceremony celebrations included a festive garba night. The bride channeled all her mermaid glam in a turquoise and gold floor length anarkali. Decor One began day 1 of wedding decor and the entire room was a haven that paralleled the furnishings of the inside of a genie’s lamp. No doubt Aladdin was a contributing element! The ballroom was lit with the sounds and lighting of a Bollywood affair and we cannot get enough of all these insanely gorgeous images! Naturally only a stellar venue would do and Sugar Land Marriott Town Square was the place to be with Bella Lumi flooding all the love in our full gallery with the upcoming wedding and reception.

Austin, Texas Indian Fusion Wedding by Studio Uma

Back at the Pecan Springs Ranch, Marquee Rentals was busy setting up for the grand finale! The bride and groom chose the auspicious venue in the hill country because of the incredible outdoor space with plenty of shade, flowers and comfortable bride and groom suites. The cocktail hour was Chinese-theme and decorated with red paper lanterns. I love how the guests painted the couple using Chinese calligraphy brushes while they ate Asian-fusion appetizers out of a food truck. The seating arrangements also served as the party favors: handmade chai tea sachets with Ambika’s family's secret chai recipe. The whimsical reception was a mix of everything: Indian food served family style, incredible desserts from Whole Foods. One of my favorite elements? A hot tea station that featured green teas that Robert's family brought from farms in Taiwan! The bride was a Bollywood babe in an ombre lengha that was so fitting for the venue! Get lost in all the charm yourself with our curated gallery by Studio Uma.

Austin, Texas Indian Fusion Wedding by Studio Uma

Here at Maharani Weddings we see A LOT of baraat ceremonies. However, Ambika and Robert’s take the buck, I mean, steer. We are in the gorgeous state of Texas today’s auspicious couple and boy, did they bring the Bollywood flair to gool ol’ Austin! Robert rode a longhorn steer to his altar from The Cross T Ranch and shocked family and friends. On the base of the outdoor gardens of Pecan Springs Ranch sat a whimsical mandap designed by Marquee Rentals. I love how the gorgeous venue wasn’t overshadowed with too much decor! After the Indian wedding ceremony, it was time to take advantage of the spacious quarters and get some charming portraits. See our favorites down below and head into the gallery by Studio Uma for even more Indian fusion wedding inspiration.

Austin, Texas Indian Fusion Wedding by Studio Uma

We have a personalized love story today celebrating Maharani Ambika and Robert. The bride and groom both live in San Francisco but decided to return to Robert’s hometown of Austin for the wedding because of the friendly people, amazing cuisine, music and quirky culture. Ambika is Indian American and Robert is Taiwanese American. It was very important that both backgrounds and heritages were celebrated and after meeting with Yellow Umbrella Events & Design. The bride began the gorgeous day with a beauty session with her lovely ladies. For her traditional Indian wedding ceremony, Ambika intermixed hues of dark pink and blue into her paisley infused wedding lengha. Coming right up we have an amazing baraat ceremony that you won’t want to miss! Get lost in the lovely gallery by Studio Uma!

From the Bride:

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!

A girlfriend had planned a photoshoot in San Francisco (months in advance) with a bunch of her friends for a project I knew she was working on. The girls and I got all dressed up, went to the North Beach area of San Francisco, and a photographer friend of ours took photos.  Halfway through, the photographer told us he wanted to relocate to Coit Tower.  When we got there, Robert was waiting, with roses, a bunch of placards, our photographer friend (and an audience of passerby!), in the same spot Robert had told me years earlier that he wanted to marry me. He had illustrated our relationship on the placards and the last one had an engagement ring embedded in it.  After he proposed, and I said yes, he blindfolded me and took me to our favorite wine bar in San Francisco where I found all of my family, his family (whom he had flown there from Austin), and all of our closest friends waiting to celebrate.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?

Robert and I visited India while we were engaged, so we bought our Hindu ceremony outfits in Ahmedabad. Though both Chinese and Indian cultures dress their brides in red and gold, I wanted to do something a bit different, so I chose an ornate lengha that was royal blue and bright pink, with ivory and gold detail. The design details on the lengha made me feel very regal, but not too uncomfortable or stifled, when wearing it.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?

Food tasting (dinner and dessert) because... duh. We tried a few different dinner caterers and many different dessert options and the vendors in Austin were very welcoming and delicious.  Robert and I love tasting different foods and this was also an activity that we could share easily with our family members.

The day before our wedding, I was determined to have a Lady Sangeet, but we wanted the men to be entertained too, so we sent them next door to start a pub crawl down Rainey Street. They had a great time and it turned out that some of our relatives are very generous after a few drinks! For the baraat, Robert was standing up on the back of this huge longhorn, in his sherwani, dancing to bhangra music. Those moments were so hilarious and energizing and unforgettable.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?

1) Decide upfront what you want your wedding to be about.  For us, it was about sharing our culture and our big step with our loved ones and having a big budget bash.  If, for you, it's about wearing the most beautiful clothes, that's great!  Prioritize that and make sure everyone involved (including you) takes that to heart.

2) Look for ways to keep your guests engaged. A lot of our friends are students and couldn't give us gifts, so I asked them to get together and make some decorations for the reception the day before our wedding.  This way, they met each other, made new friends, and contributed to our wedding in a unique and visible way.

See you in a twinkle!

Austin, Texas Fusion Indian Wedding by Studio Uma

We know for a fact that Michelle and Paraag’s fusion Indian wedding planning was a bit of a challenge. After all, planning different sets of backgrounds and ceremonies require a lot more coordination. The couple brought on Yellow Umbrella Events to help spearhead their series of events and the wonderful celebration ended with a reception party at the AT&T Hotel & Conference Center. The bride slipped into a white wedding dress that was fit for Cinderella. I especially loved how the elegant garment just ebbed and flowed as the bride walked down the aisle to greet her Prince Charming. No celebration would be complete without the sounds of the latest beats! Nachle DJ Entertainment was on board to ensure that not a single guest wasn’t shaking and grooving. Guests dined on fine cuisine rustled up in house while enjoying a delicious wedding cake from Michelle’s Patisserie. There are a lot more magical moments captured in our gallery by Studio Uma.
