From the bride, on how they met:
"I, Anum, met my now husband, Ammar, at a mutual friends wedding. I had just finished my first semester of my first year of law school down in San Diego and had come back home (Diamond Bar) for winter break. I think it was one of the most organic meetings I have ever had with anyone--we are at the dholki the night before the mehndi--I'm sitting, clapping, enjoying the music and laughter, and I hear someone next to me crack a joke. I think I was the only one that turned around and laughed, said a few words and resumed to the festivities. Although nothing really happened during the wedding, Ammar and I certainly felt something, which transformed into something concrete over the next few weeks after the wedding. Text messages turned into all-night phone calls, phone calls turned into an actual date at Mama-D's in Newport Beach, which turned into a promise of wanting to be with each other for a lifetime. I think we realized how deeply we felt when Ammar drove to San Diego twice on the day of Valentines. Nothing says like "I love you" than committing to driving on the I-5 twice in one day--during rush hour!"
On the proposal:
"I had a really rough day at work. I was interning at this law firm in downtown San Diego for the summer and Ammar was back in Orange County. We usually met up during the week in San Clemente, which was halfway between us to have dinner, hangout, etc and on June 11, 2014, that was exactly what we had planned to do. I had just left work and was walking back to my apartment when Ammar called. He sounded excited, we talked about our plans that night, when he abruptly pulled up next to me in his car! I was in complete and utter disbelief. He told me that he just wanted to surprise me and have dinner in San Diego since I had a long day. We started driving and it wasn't until we had boarded our sail boat down in the marina and were sailing during sunset with a beautiful view of downtown San Diego, when I realized what he was going to do. He took me to the corner of the boat, got down on one knee, and was literally speechless (which is very UNLIKE him!). We both started laughing, he eventually managed to ask me and we were both in tears. I could not have asked for a better proposal. We had spent a lot of time in San Diego in the beginning of our relationship and it had become our home away from home. Our engagement party was held at my house on June 22, 2014. It was a mixture of family and close friends. The summer backyard setting was ideal for our peach and gold theme with romantic music and lots of excitement! It was indeed a memorable day."
The wedding reception is next!
