From the bride, on how they met:
"I met Samip in college. We both went to school in Boston and met through mutual friends. Although I did not know he was "the one" then, we kept in touch and both ended up in NYC a year or so after graduation for our jobs. Soon after, we found ourselves spending a lot of time together, laughing and strolling the streets of Manhattan."
On the proposal:
"We got engaged in Amsterdam, Samip was there for work and I went over for the weekend, since he had spent the entire week partying, I figured he had no intention of proposing but to my surprise, what was to be just a canal boat ride, turned out to be the place he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was so surprised, I asked what he was doing on the floor...He had also planned this amazing seven course meal to celebrate after, I don't remember anything that we ate unfortunately, just that I couldn't stop staring at my left hand."
On the wedding style:
"I wanted our wedding style to be glamorous but not over the top. For the actual wedding, I had seen a picture of an aisle with water and flowers, I wanted the room to be full of floating candles, flowers and water and it was just that. Our wedding was near Christmas time and one thing that I love so much is NYC during Christmas, the decorations and the joy that surround it. I wanted to create a Winter Wonderland in Sugar Land. The reception room was breathtaking, the flowers and colors looked amazing. We had an ice bar, ornaments and a lot of sparkle."
On the lenghas:
"I went shopping in Bombay, we have a lot of family there and visit often so it was something I had always planned on doing. I LOVE Indian designers and for years, even before I was in a relationship, had been saving pictures of various outfits that I had dreamed of wearing to my wedding. I went to a few stores but walked into Anita Dongre and ended up getting my mehndhi and wedding lengha from there, I love her style, it is so elegant and classy. I wanted my sangeet outfit to be full of colors and found the perfect lengha at Satya Paul. For the reception, I needed some sequins to go along with my Winter Wonderland and found the perfect champagne lengha from Sabyasachi."
On a special moment:
"I think that one of the magical moments that I will always remember was at the welcome event at my house. I was getting my mehndhi done and women from my side of the family and Samip's side were sitting opposite each other alternating singing marriage songs. Then my mom and his mom got up and started dancing with each other and the smiles and joy on their faces was so beautiful, it was so simple but really what marriage is about, two families coming together."
