The bride on how she met the one:
"Maulik and I met 9 years ago at UC Irvine and started dating one year after we met. We started off as friends and I think thats what lasted us all these years. We met through some common friends at college and somewhere between our late night long walks and talks, we fell in love. When I moved away and we discussed the future of our relationship, it was the hardest thing we had to do. We decided to take it one step at a time and see where things go. A majority of our dating years were long distance because of work and grad school, but somehow we made it last. We talked a lot and made plans about the time we will get to be in the same city. We flew in to see each for weekend trips and I have some of my fondest memories during those trips. Anyone will attest to the fact that long distance relationships are hard. We had many ups and downs but we fought through them. I knew we were meant to be "forever" every time we helped each other pull through. We completed each other in every aspect of our lives. I think we managed to last this long, despite the distance, is because we were always friends first, and were able to talk about anything and everything, without reservations. Thats what makes a relationship!"
On the proposal:
" My 'boyfriend' at that time, planned an elaborate trip to Vegas to celebrate my graduation from Optometry school. Many of our friends joined and I was beyond ecstatic. One night, a bunch of us went to a fancy-pants dinner at Todd English's OLIVES at the Bellagio. He had booked the patio overlooking the fountains for dessert. He had a friend of ours ready to take pictures and he proposed when the fountains started playing. I think this is the only time in our 8-year relationship that he has managed to surprise me and he did it pretty well. It turns out this whole trip was planned around this proposal. I was scared, I was nervous and took a while to answer ! He gave me a beautiful proposal, we celebrated with opening a bottle of champagne with our friends. It was one of the most memorable nights and it ended with the most beautiful ring."
On planning the wedding:
One of my favorite things was adding little details to the wedding, that took it a little beyond the conventional wedding. Since I am an optometrist, and our wedding was outdoors, we decided to put together a table with sunglasses and cute chalkboard with a message for our guests. All our guests, from cousins, friends, uncles, aunties and even grandparents loved the novelty of the idea and wore their sunglasses with pride.
Maulik created a beautiful wooden sign for the wedding. We ordered the wooden planks with the text off Etsy, but Maulik took it a little further. He added a Pagri on side and Kaleerein on the other to add a little ethnic touch to the wedding sign. It looked beautiful and all our guests loved taking pictures with it.
Another little detail were the use of our pictures as table numbers during the reception. We picked a lot of our baby and adult pictures and decorated them in our reception colors of blue and gold. Maulik spent hours creating, measuring, cutting, and pasting each individual picture to yield the beautiful table numbers you see."
On her make-up look:
"I did a lot of research about hair and makeup before the wedding, since I didn't know much about it. My sisters helped me a lot through the process, and helped me pick out hair styles for all my events. I give credit for all my looks to both my sisters and the team of Cinderella Bridez. I got the ideas of my looks from my sisters and described them to the Erica and Bhargavi. They worked their magic on the day off, and made me feel like the most beautiful bride."
Can't wait for you to join me back here for the ravishing wedding reception!
