Our Maharani Shaili on how she met the one:
"I met Hirak when we were in college at the University of California, San Diego. We didn't become good friends until the end of college and we graduated together. I went off to medical school and he started working and going to grad school, but we kept in touch. There was never an exact moment where I knew he was the one, we just gradually grew closer and our friendship stronger, until one day, I realized I couldn't stand the prospect of not talking to him or seeing him or laughing with him every day. I knew then that we had evolved into more than friends."
On her wedding style:
"The venue we picked was already beautifully decorated with these lovely chandeliers and floor to ceiling windows and classic fireplaces, so we had to do minimal decorating and I wanted to choose colors which would highlight the beauty of the reception hall, but also still be traditional. We chose mostly a maroon/burgundy and golden theme for the wedding with white and red flowers and a more neutral palette with ivory, blush, light golden and black accents for the evening reception. I decided the reception color palette pretty much on the spot when one of the cake tasting places asked me what our color palette would be and, relying on my gut, I said the first color combination I remembered that I had liked while looking at palettes online. I took that as a sign of it was meant to be and probably the easiest decision I made throughout the wedding, though certainly the most impulsive!"
On her bridal makeup:
"I had ideas of how I wanted my hair and makeup through countless hours on Pinterest, but I couldn't do an in person hair and makeup trial. My stylist, Oscar Naranjo from Ziba Beauty in Artesia, CA was so experienced that I described what I wanted in 2 minutes and he understood exactly and created the perfect look in no time."
On her bridal lengha:
"Since I was across the country completing my medical residency, I could not get vacation time to go to India to pick my outfits. I sent my parents pictures of dresses I liked that I had seen on the internet and they tried to find similar styles for me during their trip. When they could not, they found an amazing designer in Mumbai, Heena Shah of Tarjani Couture, who worked closely with them to personalize my mehndi, wedding and reception outfit exactly how I wanted. Since they were in India and I was in New Jersey, they would frequently FaceTime with me at 2 or 3 AM to show me different colors, fabrics, design options and to get exact measurements so the outfit would fit perfectly. It was a lot of work for my parents and Heena Aunty, but she made everything absolutely perfect."
Meet me back here for the lovely wedding reception!
