Welcome back, dolls! It's not an Indian wedding without a bit of gold and glitter, and this next celebration started events off right with the perfect sangeet details! Matei Horvath Photography captured the shaadi of Shilpi and Maneesh in San Jose, California, and we're getting an exclusive on the happy couple's pre-wedding festivities at Napredak Hall, planned by Ajooba Events! The blushing Indian bride rocked the most stunning, gold anarkali suit (with baby pink peep toe pumps!), and was styled to portrait perfection by her professional hair and makeup artist, Artistry by Christal. We love the combination of colors between Shilpi and Maneesh's looks, the pop of teal from the groom's sherwani adds an enormous amount of bold style. Ravie Khattura, of Keyuri's, left her magnificent mehndi mark on this event, and when we get back, make sure you're ready to be dazzled by some seriously amazing Sikh wedding highlights like never before — from Shilpi and Maneesh's outdoor ceremony and the groom's baraat featuring Vintage Carriage Company! While you wait, check out some more pre-wedding wonders from their sangeet in the complete gallery!
Maharani Shilpi, on meeting the Raja of her dreams, Maneesh:
"I met my husband randomly at a bar in New York. We both happened to be in town for a long weekend. He lived in Philadelphia at the time and I was living in San Francisco. 10 minutes into our conversation, we both realized our younger brothers are best friends from college! Such a small world, but long story short that meeting led to our first date a week later in SF when he came for an interview for his fellowship at UCSF, to dating long distance for 9 months, to him moving to San Francisco, and then us getting engaged and married"
On Maneesh's incredible proposal:
"My husband is one of the kindest and most caring people I know and made sure the proposal incorporated many of the things I loved: my friends and family, my favorite view of San Francisco (the lights of the Bay Bridge), my favorite time of day (dusk), and, of course, my love of Bollywood.
He tricked me into thinking he had an important GI Faculty dinner in a rooftop lounge overlooking the Bay Bridge. My brother made a very convincing formal invitation. Several of his co-fellows assisted in legitimizing the ruse and attended the "dinner". After mingling there for a bit, he convinced me to go to the rooftop to check out an unobstructed view of the Bay Bridge. While we were gone, a bunch of our friends quickly converted the venue of the GI faculty dinner into a romantic scene just for the two of us (somehow only taking 12 minutes!). Upon arriving back downstairs, the scene was transformed and a hidden live band began to play some of my favorite romantic Bollywood songs. He then guided me along a path of rose petals to the balcony overlooking the city. There he gave me a scrapbook that I had given to him on our first anniversary; only, he had filled it's blank pages with his own photos and memories from our time together and had bound it into a hard-cover book. The last page of this book was left blank with the instruction that it be filled with photos from the "Day Maneesh Proposed..."."
On her favorite sangeet memory:
"During our Sangeet, when Maneesh busted out in a surprise dance performance to Ek Pal Ka Jeena (b/c he knew how much I used to be obsessed with Hrithik) wearing a mesh shirt, 6-pack tshirt underneath, and sunglasses, doing all the moves flawlessly! Everyone there was amazed!"
Meet me back here for all the need-to-know details from Shilpi and Maneesh's wedding day!
