Today we’re excited to dive into the wedding celebration of Sabreet and Arun. This feature is extra special because these lovebirds have been together since they were sixteen years old! Fast forward twelve years later and we have the most magical wedding weekend to share with you all. Sabreet told us, “This is going to sound cheesy but I knew I wanted to marry when we first started dating when I was 16. I remember falling for Arun because he always made me smile and laugh. I am looking forward to spending the rest of my life with him because I know one day we will be sitting on our front porch sipping on lemonade and reminiscing on how we lived a life full of laughter together.” Arun also gushed about his lady love, saying he knew he had to marry this special lady after she took care of him after a health scare! He told us, “Aside from being there for me every step of the way through my rehabilitation, when I saw the way my parents and her interacted, and the love and respect she treated them with, I knew right then and there this was the only girl I ever wanted to bring into my family." The couple had two sacred wedding ceremonies, and looked picture perfect for each in shimmering Bollywood fashions. Event Envy created the perfect ambiance and decor for each event, and we’re swooning over every pristine photograph by Akbar Sayed Photography. Peruse the full gallery for all the glorious moments. How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met the love of my life when I was in high school at the age of 16. Our story is an old tale about a Punjabi girl who meets a Malayalam boy, boy flirts with girl, and the girl falls hopelessly in love with him. Our journey is a remix of the West Side Story and the Indian movie Two States. We would both get in trouble with our parents for being young, stupid, and in love but I think it all worked out well :)
I asked Arun as well so he can share his story about how he knew I was the one. Below are our responses :)
Sabreet: This is going to sound cheesy but I knew I wanted to marry when we first started dating when I was 16. I remember falling for Arun because he always made me smile and laugh. We have been dating for how many years now? 12 years? There have been plenty of ups and downs but I knew I really wanted to marry Arun about 3 years ago when he was there for me and my family for one of the hardest times of our lives. I do not know what I would have done if he was not there by my side. Arun is my constant. He has been there for my highest highs.. high school/college/grad school graduations...even if you had to watch me graduate alone because my parents didn't know about you yet LOL...to getting my first job, getting into a doctoral program etc. to my lowest lows. He never gave up on me and always loved me even when I least deserved it. He is the one constant thing in my life; I can always count on him to be there and to never change. I am looking forward to spending the rest of my life with him because I know one day we will be sitting on our front porch sipping on lemonade and reminiscing on how we lived a life full of laughter together.
Arun: We’ve been dating so long now that I can’t even remember who said it first. However, I’m pretty sure as 16 year olds, we had been talking for maybe a few weeks (at most) before one of us blurted out the words I love you. The thing is, I don’t think either of us really knew what love entitled until we got to our mid 20s. It’s commitment, it’s dedication, it’s consistency and above all else it’s a tireless work in progress from now until eternity. So, needless to say we’ve “loved” each other for some time now. As far as when I knew I wanted to marry her though? I would say for me that probably came about 3 or so years ago, when I had a fairly serious health scare that ironically enough finally forced my parents to meet Sabreet. Aside from being there for me every step of the way through my rehabilitation, when I saw the way my parents and her interacted, and the love and respect she treated them with, I knew right then and there this was the only girl I ever wanted to bring into my family.
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Arun gathered his and Sabreet's closest friends and family to assist with his proposal. He handed everyone a Photograph, each one a significant memory in their relationship. As she made her way through the stations, she was handed a photograph and read the associated caption. Once she made her way to Arun, the rest was history.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Arun & I planned everything together. Our overall experience planning was wonderful because we're a great team. As we looked around and researched all of our vendors, the most important thing to us was not the cost but the customer service that our vendor was providing us. We looked at how our vendor would communicate and talk to us above all. While all of our vendors were great, we loved our videographers and photographers the most. We actually feel like we will be keeping in touch with them because they feel like a part of our family now.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I am a sucker for traditional Punjabi bridal lenghas. The pressure was real when I went to India because I had to pick not just bridal outfits for myself but also for my groom and my younger brother who was getting married a month after me. I fell in love with my punjabi bridal lengha the first time I tried it on. I went to India with my Mom, Massi, and Naniji. As soon as I put the lengha on (that I ultimately chose) their eyes started tearing up so I knew this was the one. As far as the bridal sari I wore for my Kerala Hindu Wedding. I left that completely up to my mother in law. I asked her to get my something blue. As a Punjabi woman, I had dreams of what my Punjabi bridal outfit would look like my whole life and I wanted to make sure I gave my mother in law the same opportunity to make her dreams come true for her only son’s wedding. I ultimately let my mother in law pick a sari from Kerala. Once I saw it, I fell in love with it.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Believe it or not the most enjoyable part of the planning process was actually the hard difficult tasks that we had. I work full time and am getting a doctorate at the same time. While we were planning our wedding, there were definitely moments that put us in overtime. When I was extremely stressed out, I saw how my new family, my parents, and my fiance helped and cared for me. What I learned while planning my wedding was how lucky I am to have the family I do and how fortunate I am to be able to listen and learn from my parents about why we do the different traditions we do during a wedding.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
All of my guest told us that they loved the Doli from the guruwarda, the hindu wedding, and my father and daughter dance at the reception. From the gurdwara, I had a traditional doli where my brothers picked me up and took me to the car that Arun & I were leaving from. The hindu wedding was amazing because of the amount of flowers we had. Our guest were continuously throwing flowers at us throughout the duration of the wedding. As far as the reception, my father & I along with Arun and his mother danced to our favorite Disney song. Several of our guest were sobbing and it made both Arun & I giggle because we thought they were crying at our dance moves LOL.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Arun's smile. Every time I got nervous or felt overwhelmed, I looked at Arun and his smile always gave me peace and helped me relax. Weddings can be stressful! Especially indians wedding when you have two ceremonies but Arun never let that get to him. I am lucky to have him.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Planning sucks but enjoy every moment of planning your wedding... it will teach you how well you and your future partner work together. My biggest advice for the wedding day is just relax, take a deep breath and realize how much you are loved by your future husband and both of the families that are coming together. You are loved more than you know, enjoy that love not only on your wedding day but every day after for the rest of your life.
Hurry back lovelies! Reception magic coming right up!
