What else can be greater than California during springtime? The freshness of the air and the warmth of the skies truly are an incredible scenography for the celebration of the union of two souls and backgrounds. That was indeed the case with Nisha & Ankush's nuptials. The amazingly vivid colors of the sarees, the mystic smells of the incense and the ancient chantings were just some of the characteristics that gave this wedding, that extra touch of magical flair. Our couple needed to be relaxed for their big day but weddings can be everything but relaxed! Lucky for them, Best Dream Weddings by Vanessa Doménech knows how to run things extra smoothly and assisted with the planning and design of the gala. Seriously, when a planner like her has your back, be sure that things will go amazing! Of course glam was present at all times. Going from the traditional Baraat, thanks to Enchanted Carriages, to the reception at the Hyatt Regency Valencia, everything was just so full of love that we had to share it. How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met through a mutual friend. Ankush was studying in Mexico and I was living in Sacramento. Our first date was in Los Angeles. Ankush took me to an area where we could see the lights of LA. We had wonderful conversations but soon we realized the car battery had died. Stuck on a mountain and the only thought the came to our minds was to call my brother, who was also visiting, and was a mechanic. We both knew then that we wanted to see each other again. I knew he was the one when our phone conversations lasted 8+ hours and it continues to be as long 10 years later!
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Ankush flew me down to Los Angeles. He spent all day spoiling me. For dinner, he took me to dinner on the hilltop. In a private area he reserved, Ankush got on one knee and proposed. Ankush thanked me for being so patient and expressing how happy he was that we made it so far.
Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Planning a wedding, we had to hire a wedding planner. Ankush has a big family in Los Angeles and I had a small family spread in England and all over California. I was living in Sacramento, California at the time. A few months later, I ended up getting a job in Los Angeles. Prior to moving, Ankush’s grandmother passed. Then one month before the wedding my grandfather had passed away. We knew we wanted to incorporate our grandparents on our special day. We booked the Hyatt in Valencia, California. It was close to our home and we loved how accommodating the venue was for us. The family would have plenty to do and the hotel was accommodating to our guests. Hair and makeup were so relaxing. In the morning, we finished 30 minutes early and spent time talking and relaxing. My outfit was very light with heavy thread work. I had one red chunni covering my head and a blush pink drapes on my shoulder. Our theme was a secret garden with lots of fresh flowers. The most important details were being family-oriented. I walked down the aisle with my parents and my grandfather who was so excited to go. I feel our grandparents were there in spirit.
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I wasn’t sure what I wanted but I knew I wanted a beautiful red. I wanted to look simple and classy. I questioned my bridal jewelry because it was mint green. But when everything came together it looked beautiful. I felt royal.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning process was getting my outfits and working with our wedding planner.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests loved how beautiful our two wedding ceremonies were and how it felt so family-oriented.
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Our first dance always replays in my head. Ankush’s cousin sang our first song. Everyone was brought to tears.
For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
Our sangeet was very classy. Ankush’s family had a lot of performances. The night before the wedding was also very simple but meaningful.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
To enjoy the process and to not stress about every single detail. Also, hire a wedding planner!
Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
I went very frantic with my jewelry for the wedding and simple for the reception. Mehndi I booked as soon as I was engaged. I follow his work on Instagram and I knew instantly I wanted him to do my bridal henna. The cake was simple but we got owl cake toppers. I painted an owl picture for his birthday and every card we get for each other is owl themed. My bouquet I pressed after the wedding.
Part two in a bit!
