How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met on an online dating app. I don't think there was a specific "moment" that I knew. We've stuck together through thick and thin, and over time I knew he was the one because of how he showed up for me everyday: unwavering, committed, loving, and strong. It was also so reaffirming to see the love and compassion he always showed my family and friends. He is everything I've ever wanted. I am truly lucky to be his wife.
Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
It’s a funny story because I designed the ring + booked the venue before he proposed. It was in the middle of the pandemic, and I knew that if I waited any longer, I’d lose the venue I wanted. Every other wedding we went to in 2021 was on a weekday, because no weekends were available by the time they booked.
While we dated, we spent a lot of time at my parents’ house, which was also the home I grew up in. We made so many memories there with them. He chose to decorate the backyard with lights, candles, and photos of us. My best friend took me out to dinner that evening, and I had an inkling something was going on because she asked me to dress up with her - and she doesn’t usually dress up! I entered our home through the backyard, and immediately our favorite song started playing. I saw Stephen walk out in a suit - he looked so handsome. I looked up to see my parents standing on the porch. Stephen got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. It meant the world to me that he made sure my parents were a part of it, and that he planned the entire thing to be in a place that held such meaning for me. It was a beautiful evening!
How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Unfortunately, my original idea (a custom design) was ruined by a set of tailors I had initially hired. I had always loved Sabyasachi’s style and design, and ended up ordering one in a similar style last minute. It ended up working out, but we cut it really close! I didn’t have a favorite color in mind, but I knew I wanted it to be traditional, so we went with red.
What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I think the real pay-off was when we finally got to see the venue in person for the first time. We had to book to grab the date before we actually got to see it in person (especially because it was a destination wedding). It was so beautiful, and there was a ton of relief realizing it was true to what we had seen in photos. Meeting the vendors was also amazing - they were all incredible, especially our planner Amanda, and photographer Nat WongSaroj.
What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think they enjoyed the venue, Paradise Point Resort and Spa - more than anything else. We also received comments on how good the food was, how seamless it seemed, and the intimate, personal feel of the wedding overall.
Upon asking one of my bridesmaids, she shared that: "Stealing the groom's shoes, watching your mom walk you down the aisle, the cold sparks that went off when you shared your first dance!" There was even a moment when a second bride who was getting married that same day crashed our reception dance floor with her groom - and it was so fun to dance alongside them!
Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
My mother survived 2 strokes in the past few years. For months, we were practicing her walking me down the aisle. And when she finally did, it was absolutely unforgettable. There were bubbles, it was golden hour, and I was being walked down into the next chapter of my life with a lady nothing short of a warrior.
Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
While your wedding day will involve all sorts of details and logistics, remember, at the end of the day - this is celebrating you and your love. And that's all that matters. Don't fret the small stuff!
Also, ask for as much support as possible - and delegate as much as you can!
Keep coming back for more love and romance!
