New York, NY Indian Wedding by Karin von Voigtlander Photography

Back at the Tribeca Rooftop, tanaRi Events and Cress Floral Decorators were busy as bees getting the venue set up for Maharani Madhavi’s wedding reception. Karin von Voigtlander Photography caught all the wedding magic behind the lens. Erika Franco Makeup & Hair Design was back on task to doll up this Maharani. The bride and groom showed up fashionably late, escorted by Ecstasy Limousine. Dimple’s BombayTalk fed hungry guests, while those who had a sweet tooth munched on cakes and treats from Dessert Donuts: Erin McKenna's Bakery. Desi Junction DJs showed off their skills on the turntables, truly making this reception one memorable event! Head into the gallery to check out more wedding reception highlights.

Maharani Pritika on choosing her ceremony lengha:

"Believe it or not, my ceremony lengha was actually picked out by Vishal. Like most girls, I always had a picture in my head of what I wanted my lengha to look like on my wedding day. And unlike most guys, Vishal also had an idea in his head of what he wanted his bride to look like on his wedding day. Little did we know, our visions clashed, but I wanted to incorporate what he wanted into my look. I took him shopping with me a couple times to get an idea of what he liked. Lengha after lengha, nothing wowed us. Finally, we saw something that intrigued us both and I went to try it on. At the time we were shopping, he was really into the song 'Mast Magan' from 2 States. As soon as I walked out in that last outfit, the song came on and he stood there staring at me and finally said that was the one. It was then that I realized that what I had envisioned in my mind was nothing compared to the look he had in his when he saw me and I knew I had found my lengha."

On their first dance song:

"Vishal and I have different tastes when it comes to music so it took us months to figure out our first dance song. He really like Blank and Jones's 'Somebody Like You' but I just couldn't get into it. We went back and forth, sending each other songs but we could never agree on one. Finally, we came across the piano acoustic version of John Legend's 'So High.' The words portrayed exactly how we felt. It was perfect, we had a dry ice machine during our first dance and we felt like we were on cloud nine. We also surprised our guests with a Bollywood number that immediately followed our slow dance to a mix of Adnan Sami's 'Saathiya' and Jassi Sidhu's 'Veer Ji Viyohn.' Anyone that knows Vishal knows he is not one to perform choreographed routines, but he went out of his comfort zone and did it just to put a smile on my face."

From the groom:

"For me the most memorable/magical moment of the wedding was when we did our first look. I was standing in the hallway with my back to her and she tapped on my shoulder for me to turn around, and once I did, I lost my breath. I ended up tearing up seeing her in her wedding dress, she was beautiful. If you ask her, she thought I was actually fake crying, but I had to tell her it was far from the truth."

We're closing the week with a beautiful Indian wedding tomorrow, so come back to check it out!

Monmouth Junction, NJ South Asian Wedding by Fotobuddy Photography

Welcome back, Maharanis! For the reception, held at and catered by Rasoi III, our South Asian bride Pooja wore a stunning aqua and violet lengha from Ohm the Origin. The amazing Mansi from Makeup By Mansi created a beautiful berry-colored makeup look for our Maharani which went well with her lengha, dance outfit and fabulous mehndi by Bridal Henna Artist! We love the portraits Fotobuddy Photography took of the newlyweds, capturing their lively personalities! The couple also showed off their moves on the dancefloor, where Dhoom Events Indian Wedding DJ matched their mood with the perfect high energy songs! The decor was various shades of blue with bright pops of pink and white, and featured ocean-inspired details, and ChocaL8kiss Bakery created an adorable pink and blue wedding cake to go with the theme! For the rest of the reception, visit the full gallery!

Maharani Pooja on her first dance:

"We decided to surprise our guests with a slow dance that breaks out into a hip hop and reggae dance routine. I edited the song as though the DJ suddenly interrupted our first dance song with some party music and we even reacted as such. The dance was probably my favorite part of the wedding and reception night because of how much time we spent choreographing and practicing it, and it was wonderful to see how pumped up our guests were!"

On her magical wedding look:

"I like to call my wedding hair and makeup stylist (Makeup by Mansi) my fairy godmother because she completely transformed me! I'm usually not good with wearing makeup or fussing over my hair so I was not expecting the reflection I saw when I looked in the mirror that day after she was done with me! I had again used Pinterest and the Internet to find a few styles I liked. After booking a trial with Mansi, I met with her and she patiently talked with me about the different styles and what would work with my outfits and face. We used the look she created on me during the trial for my reception look and I asked her to recreate a style similar to one I found on her Facebook page for my wedding look. I actually felt gorgeous!"

On how her family and friends helped:

"A few of my best friends were really helpful with the event. One of them is an art director/graphic designer and her wedding gift to us was to create our save the dates and invitations. She created a mock IMDb page for our save the dates (as seen here) and designed beautiful print and web versions of our invitations that looked amazing! She and another of my friends helped me with putting together the centerpieces (we did these ourselves) and my other friend put together the entire guestbook table that featured our 'guestbooks' for guests to make the choice of either signing Jenga pieces or filling out Mad Libs advice cards. Several family members helped out to make sure other details were attended to so that Kunick and I didn't have to do as much running around."

On her favorite wedding details:

"There were so many amazing details about the wedding that both of us were so thrilled with. Every vendor was wonderful to work with and we received so many compliments on the food, music, our looks, cake, etc. I think one detail that we are still hearing about from our guests are the wedding magazines we created ourselves. We really wanted to make sure the guests had fun and that the event was catered to them. Many of the guests were not Indian and some were bringing along their children, so we decided to create a wedding magazine to keep them occupied and/or to help guide them in case they were lost during the ceremony. Some of the features included were articles about us, a few short stories we each wrote, messages from our family, and games. We had no idea they would be such a big hit and people are asking us to start a new business now as well!"

See you on Monday for more Indian wedding magic!

Maharani Hardeep on her favorite parts of wedding planning:

"The best part was cake tasting and picking out mini desert flavors and look of the deserts; [I also enjoyed] outfit designing, sherwani designing and lip singing and dancing for my music video."

On choosing her bridal fashion:

"Well, since I only had three weeks in India, I had to choose my lenghas fast. I figured, if I can get my reception and wedding lengha, the rest I can just order later. I always wanted to wear bright red. I found red orange to be perfect. I wanted just one color lengha for the wedding and loved what Faryal Makhdoom wore for hers so I figured, why not get something similar. For the reception, I had no idea what I wanted to wear. My mom said no white, so option number one was off the table. I love yellow but went with something that would stand out in low lights. Hot pink and yellow it was with a whole lot of sparkles. Yes, both dresses weighed more than me!

For my sangeet, I actually ordered it via WhatsApp from the same people who did my wedding and reception lengha. I wanted to wear a lighter color with bright chunni. I went with a gold floor-length anarkali with orange chunni. I [wanted]  the floor length anarkali to have tons of volume and it did. I loved it."

On the most magical wedding moments:

"The whole wedding was magical. The smile on his face as I entered the Gurdwara. The deep breath I took as I walked down the aisle (a little nervous but watching him smile made it all better). The saddest moment: Watching my little nephew cry. The funniest moment: He gave my sisters 10,000 pennies for the robin ceremony as a joke. The faces they made when they each had to carry the 60 pounds was priceless."

On their perfect first dance song:

"Ronan Keating, 'When You Say Nothing at All.' We both wrote down our top 5, and picked this one because we don't need words to talk."

On how her family helped make the day special:

"My father never danced in his life. He refused to dance at parties, but I told him he needed to dance with me since I am the last kid and he needed to do the father-daughter dance. That was the first time my dad danced. He smiled throughout the song. Since it was a longer song, my brother helped him by dancing with me for second half of the song. Both of them made it very special."

Meet us here tomorrow for an incredible Indian wedding!
