Avon, OH Indian Wedding by Making the Moment

Welcome back, dolls! We are in the middle of the week and features just keep getting better and better. We can hardly believe it! Today, sailing from Avon, Ohio, we have the elegance, glam, and glitter of Priya & Rahul's nuptials. We are in love with this couple, especially with Maharani Priya's modern and traditional style that just took our breath away. The gorgeous bride, for the ravishing Sangeet at the Emerald Event Center and the photo shoot prior to the ceremony, chose to wear a stylish deep blue lengha with beautiful fuschia flowers gently placed in her hair. She was looking absolutely amazing! We adore the contrast between the colors chosen. The talented Kajal by Kimberly and Ashley Rogers were in charge of dolling up Maharani Priya and what a great job they did! Imagine the lucky groom's face the first time he saw her! Cherished moments for sure. Raja Rahul wore an elegant matching deep blue sherwani with golden and fuschia details for the photo shoot and the traditional gold and burgundy for the ceremony. Our lovebirds definitely have a fine taste only true Maharanis know about. All of this happening and the always on point crew from Making the Moment captured and stored every second of our couple's dreamed day. Want to get dazzled? Join us for the first installment of today's featured gallery!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I officially met Rahul in my junior year of college. We were on a fusion Indian dance team together. First and foremost we were friends. Then after we both were done with dance and finishing up school during our senior year of college we started dating. I think I knew he was "the one" when we became a long distance relationship. We put in the work and called each other every day even if it was for 5 mins. He understood me in ways that most people didn't. The biggest qualities I look for in a guy are is he personable, loyal, sense of humor, honest, and gets along with friends and family. He checked every box and the rest was history!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
We got engaged on November 19th, 2016! We had been together for 6 years by then. My parents and aunt were coming into town to look at houses with us. Or so I thought. On Friday we all went to dinner with Rahul's parents. Then on Saturday afternoon, we planned on going to a restaurant downtown for lunch. Mind you the weather was all over the place it was 60 degrees on Friday and 30 degrees and snowing Saturday. The restaurant was on Fountain Square and the wind was blowing so hard so I was running towards the restaurant to get inside. Rahul was behind me with my parents. He called me to come back to show me something on the square. He got down on one knee, I thought he was tying his shoe so I was annoyed that he called me back in the cold. But when he looked up he had a box in his had and opened it to a beautiful ring! I was shocked and elated. I couldn't believe it was happening. I don't even remember what he said. I just hugged him and started tearing up and realized I never said anything. So I just started saying yes! Rahul's dad and brother were secretly taking pictures of us when we got engaged. My sister who lives in Chicago came running out and hugged me I was so surprised he had put all of this together for me! When we went inside the restaurant all our friends and family had gathered ready to celebrate our engagement with us. They had all watched us get engaged from the balcony. He did such a good job and really made it special.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
I planned my entire wedding. It was an enormous task but I definitely had help from my mom. Considering we lived in Cincinnati and the wedding was in Cleveland where my parents live. We booked our venue a year in advance. We booked the Emerald event center in Avon, it is connected to a Marriott residence inn. I wanted a cool venue with a hotel attached plus it was down the street from my parents where some events were. It's was perfect. The venue staff was very professional and when we were in danger of booking the entire hotel they arranged a nearby Marriott for additional rooms. I got all my outfits in India in Delhi and my husband got all of his in Mumbai. The trip to India was amazing it was Rahul's first time going so it was definitely an experience. My makeup was done by Kimberly from kajal by Kimberly. She was so sweet and cheerful and helped me not freak out while getting ready. Ashley Rodgers did my hair she did an amazing job everyone loved all my hairstyles. We had two different decorators for the events. Both did a great job and were easy to work with. Food was supplied by Jaipur junction they did such a good job, making fresh Naan outside. We also did some Filipino food because my husband is half Filipino. Love loved our DJ (opening minds) he did an amazing job everyone could not stop dancing. We had a day of coordinator who was also our florist too, Isa used her special talents so I didn't have to worry or make sure everyone was where they needed to be. Lastly Making the Moment was our photographer. Their attention to detail was so awesome I felt like a movie star who had a production crew following me around. The pictures came out insane!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I knew I wanted my bridal lengha to be traditional colors. We went to several stores around Delhi and didn't find anything in the first few days. But finally, we found one store that I got my lengha in. At the time dark maroon and peach was the style which I disliked. Then I finally found my dress with the wow factor and a dress that made me feel like a bride had threi bling and it was red.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Loved talking with our photographers it was fun planning where to take pictures and what we wanted to do. I also liked picking out my décor. I had a completely different idea when the process started then by the end we ended up with light pinks instead of the dark colors I was first envisioning. It was awesome seeing it all together. Also picking my dresses out with my mom and aunt was very special.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Majority of people said the food was amazing at every event we had. Next was the music and DJ. And last was the decor and flowers.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Walking down the aisle toward Rahul a seeing that he was crying as I was walking up. Second was my father-daughter dance. My dad doesn't show his emotions very often but during the dance, he was tearing up. I will never forget that.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
During the sangeet, we wanted a fun cool environment. We used bright colors and sat on a swing. The ceiling of the venue had different colors that could be displayed so we had fun with that. The reception was to be elegant with rose golds soft pinks and greens. I was thinking more midsummer nights dream for the theme. We had a few dances during the Sangeet which I was in one of them. Also, there was one dance during the reception that I made a surprise appearance in.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Everyone says don't stress... Well, that's easy to say but you will absolutely stress up until the day of the wedding. It's totally normal. Best decision I made was having a day of coordinator. She made sure all the things were in place on my gift table, all valuables collected and bouquets in the right places. Also at the end, you will want to re-live the entire weekend again it was a blast and didn't want it to end.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
I did a white rose with red tips as my bouquet to play off my all red lengha. During the entire weekend, I wore bangles that my mom had from her mom that I never really met since she passed when I was very young. My mom loved the idea and made me feel like my Nani was there with me.

Stay with us for part two of this beautiful wedding.

Our cute couple, Amanda and Hemal cozying up for an inspiring pre-wedding reception shoot by A.S. Nagpal Photography! The camera genius captured the newlyweds in an intimate moment where they closed their own love padlock as a symbol of love and as a memory to treasure for a lifetime! They celebrated in style! From our bride's intricate mehndi by Mehndikalogie to her gleaming outfit and the groom's sharp look, they both look incredibly good! How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met on a dating website called How About We. The idea of the website was to complete the sentence "How about we..." with a date idea so you could find people will similar interests so that even if you didn't hit it off on the date, you would still be doing something you both enjoyed. He swears he contacted me first, but I'm pretty sure I clicked on him. Our first date was to the Met museum here in New York on April 20, 2014. It was an okay date, but neither of seemed super interested in each other. It wasn't until the third date that we really hit it off. On that date, he mentioned wanting to stay in NYC permanently (a lot of the guys I'd met had wanted to move somewhere else in the future, which I wasn't interested in) and that's when I thought "this one could be a keeper".

It was on August 14, 2017, our official 3rd anniversary (of when we had the "what are we" talk). We'd already decided to get married around summer 2018 about a year or so earlier, and we'd actually booked our venue back in February, so it wasn't a surprise. We went out to eat at a restaurant that we both liked, which was where we'd gone on our first Valentine's Day. Then we walked around the South Street Seaport, which is where we'd spent a lot of time the first spring/summer that we were together just sitting and talking. Then when we got home he proposed.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We'd sort of casually decided around Spring of 2016 that we were probably going to get married around Summer 2018, so I started researching venues and how much things would cost in December of 2016. We knew we were going to have a medium-sized wedding and that it had to be over a weekend in the summer when school wasn't in session (he's a teacher), which meant we didn't have a lot of venue options in terms of size and dates, so we actually ended up booking our venue in February 2017, before we were actually engaged. I'd thought about having a wedding planner, but as a designer, I had a very specific aesthetic in mind and I didn't want to hear anyone else's ideas because I knew that if it was someone else's idea I'd eventually question whether I actually liked it or not, and I didn't want to end up feeling like it wasn't really what I wanted. I did my own hair and makeup because I don't really wear a lot of makeup in general and was worried I'd end up looking too overdone on the day. I told my friends I only wanted to like 10% better than I did on a normal day, and that I didn't want to look back at the photos and not recognize myself because I was so done up with hair and makeup. For the decor, I designed a modern looking mandala that became kind of like our logo. I wanted a lot of colors, so I ended up with 6 colors plus gold, and everything was based around those colors. I designed all of the invitations, programs, name cards, etc, as well as the website since I'm a digital designer professionally. I also arranged all of our floral arrangements (which were actually made up of fake flowers) myself and learned just from watching a few YouTube tutorials. For the favors, I wanted to have hand-painted candles to give to everyone that could also be part of the decor. I found some on Etsy, but they were too expensive, so I ended up hand-painting about 120 candles myself. I also bought and folded all of the napkins since the venue didn't have the exact shades I wanted and I wanted them to be folded in a specific way. I joked to my fiancee (now husband) that our wedding was the world's largest arts and crafts project ever undertaken by a single person. When we were looking for officiants, I wanted to have both a Hindu pundit and a non-denominational minister there to represent both families, and I knew it had to be done in an hour or less since we only had one day to do everything. Everyone kept telling me that it couldn't be done, so I ended up writing out the order that everything would go in and kind of arranging how the ceremony would work so that it felt like both families' traditions were honored.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I wanted an American-style dress that would feel familiar to my family and friends but also wanted to add an Indian twist to it. I ended up buying a simple, light gold sequined dress from David's Bridal and then bought a red saree with gold sequins on it that I used as a dupatta to wrap around the dress. I also added bangles and had henna covering my arms. My husband's parents had actually bought his outfit when they were in India for his brother's wedding several years before we met, and I knew it was gold and red, so I was trying to match that without actually seeing it. Luckily, we ended up matching perfectly and it actually looked like it was coordinated quite well!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Definitely the cake tasting. I'd known for a while that I wanted to use Baked NYC for our cakes, and I'd already kind of decided that I wanted to do a cake bar idea instead of a regular, tiered wedding cake. I'm a huge fan of desserts, and cake in particular, so I wanted this to be a highlight of the wedding. I didn't really care about how they looked, but I cared a lot about how they tasted, so that was the main thing I was focused on. I wanted to do the cake bar idea so that we could have a bunch of different flavors and people could have something to choose from. It also ended up being substantially cheaper than a tiered wedding cake. We ended up getting a Salty & Sweet Cake (chocolate and salted caramel), a pistachio cake, a coconut cake, a strawberry and cream type cake, and a chocolate and coffee cake. I actually wanted to get more, but Hemal talked me out of it, which is good because we had way too much cake in the end.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
We got a lot of compliments on the ceremony and that people loved how we blended things together without it feeling like we skipped over anything important.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
I really liked the reception. It was a relief to have everything important over with and we could just relax and talk to people.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
We had one big event for the baraat, ceremony, cocktail hour, and wedding. Everything was on the same day since almost everyone had to come into the city from other states and we didn't want them to have to stay for multiple days for it. We also aren't big on being the center of attention, so anything more than a full day sounded exhausting to both of us. We did have a small thing the night before so Hemal's parents could do a religious ceremony with him and we also had henna and dinner. It was pretty casual and low-key, which we both really liked since we knew the wedding day would be a lot bigger and we didn't want to be tired for it.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Start early, especially if you're doing a lot yourself, and if you have a really specific vision, don't involve too many other people who will have strong opinions that you'll have to fight with.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Nope.

Astoria, NY Indian Fusion Wedding by A.S. Nagpal Photography

Hello sweethearts! Today we unveil the beautiful fusion nuptials between the lovely Amanda and Hemal, courtesy of A.S. Nagpal Photography who was there in the front row to capture this lovely pair's most important day! The couple went for a unique fusion wedding day that gathered two ceremonies in one at the exclusive Renaissance Event Hall. The wedding spree began with a lively Baraat where Dhol expert, Neil Desai, announced the groom's arrival and continued with a non-denominational ceremony that paid homage to the bride's western culture and was immediately followed by a charming Indian ceremony to honor Hemal's heritage.  Bravo! To this smart bride for planning and decorating herself the exceptional event that displayed a fun bold color palette of flowers and sweet deets! She got some extra help from Drape Kings to arrange the golden drapery that created the beautiful wedding mandap to harbor the union! Our brilliant bride, Amanda also created her own wedding hair and makeup day-look, she picked a sequin gown that matched her fusion wedding theme and hired the sought-after mehndi artist Mehndikalogie to beautify her hands! Delight yourself with more deets of Amanda and Hemal's marriage! See you in the gallery!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We both attended the same Alma Mater, University at Buffalo and through mutual friends we started talking and the spark started when we met each other in person on a summer day. As I approached him, with the feeling of excitement and butterflies in my stomach, I saw him holding flowers and the sweetest smile. From that moment, our love story began.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Aashish and I were taking a trip to Punta Cana in Spring 2018. I was so sure as well as everyone else that he would be proposing on our trip in paradise. I had the perfect outfit, the perfect makeup, and nails and was patiently waiting every day for the big moment. To my disappointment, he did not propose to me there. Two months later, on a hot summer day, Aashish persuaded me to accompany him to a Pharma conference on Governors Island, N.Y. or at least that’s what I had thought. Prior to, I was in NYC attending my cousin’s graduation party and was not prepared to think I would be engaged as well as not having the attire to attend a conference. I had borrowed a blue dress from my cousin, my mother in law’s purse, and an antique piece of jewelry. As we walked through Governor’s Island, Aashish did not seem serious about his conference which started stressing me out. Until we reached Outlook Hill, the highest elevation on the island overlooking the entire bay of beautiful NYC. With the intense heat and my frustration building, I turned around and saw him on one knee asking me to spend the rest of my life with him with the most gorgeous diamond ring. Of course, I was caught completely off guard and surprised, with the same butterflies I had the first time I saw him. At that moment, I said YES! And I finally had something blue, something old, something borrowed and something new.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We contacted a wedding planner to get a general idea of a checklist that would be required for our engagement. From choosing a date as the first important item to smaller but important details as well. Maharani Weddings also gave us a comprehensive list of venues, hair & makeup artists, DJs etc. We began contacting and making appointments with all the vendors we were interested in. As the weekends passed, our exhaustive list was becoming complete. As we neared to the end of our list, we saw our vision and hard work become as true as we imagined. The photographer was the best friend of my fiance who did an excellent job. His professional, respect and dedication made our event as memorable as we experienced it.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
For the morning ceremony, I wanted to wear summer colors. So after many unsuccessful shopping trips around NJ/NYC area, I found this gorgeous coral pink/ blood orange lehenga with turquoise green with a beautiful lemon yellow dupatta via a facetime shopping session from a store named “Wedding” from Surat, Gujarat, India. For my evening outfit, I had found this gorgeous navy blue gown with gold embroidery on Pinterest. I looked for it everywhere but was not able to find this in any store. I came across Lehaar collection, from one of my best friends. Chetna Ranat and her team from Lehaar collection was able to create an outstanding lehenga based on one picture. The best part was that she involved me in every step of the way. I was involved in picking the fabric, deciding on the color shade to finalizing embroidery design.  I was stunned at the final product. Absolutely loved it.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I had asked my fiance what part did he enjoyed the most during our planning and as the romantic he is, he had said: “Spending every moment with you, whether your angry, happy, sad, and hopeful”.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
They enjoyed the food and the details to decor and color, but most of all they loved dancing away til past midnight, they loved our DJ and the fact he kept everyone so well entertained and on their feet, they just couldn't come off the dance floor. They kept asking for more and stayed past the nights end.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Our first dance as a newly engaged couple. We danced on our favorite song “All the way” by Frank Sinatra and celine dion. And in the middle of the song, when it goes All the way.. Aashish lift me up and held me in the air and in that moment I felt like the luckiest girl in the world.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
For our engagement reception, we decided to wear navy blue in our outfits so we wanted to go with decor that compliments our outfits but does not blend in. So we decided on gold and white and just hints of navy blue. We had two speeches, one from the bride to be’s dad and one from the groom to be’s sister. We have two dance performances, one from the bride’s niece and nephew and one from the groom’s nieces. The most special performance was the one that aashish’s sister, Sejal and I planned to surprise Aashish. We danced on Baji Rao Mastani’s Deewani Mastani.
