Frisco, TX Indian Wedding by Biyani Photography

Welcome back, Ladies! As promised, we are back with more finery and inspiring ideas for you to get ready for the weekend! For this installment, we are presenting you with the marvelous wedding reception from Saranya & Nirav, our lovebirds from today. So, let us take you back to the grand Omni Frisco for this memorable celebration. The hall was entirely decored by Décor One by Nalini, who created an environment of celebration mixing traditional fabrics, ornaments, and delicate centerpieces. For this closing gala, Electric Karma International organized a magical night, and let me tell you that they took our lovely duo's dream wedding vision and made it a reality. Saranya, our beautiful Maharani, trusted her beauty needs to Ms. Painted Lady, who, along with JJ Drapes, designed a royalty look for her, making her look like an angel. Not to mention the fabulous Mehndi designed by Henna By Zohra, which was splendid! The night was epic, and everyone had a blast. DJ Riz Entertainment jumped to the stage and turned this gala into a real party with well-selected beats and lights, taking this reception to the next level. If you want to relive this marvelous moment, make sure to take a look at the great work of Biyani Photography, who captured every single detail and transformed it into a beautiful gallery. And if this is not enough, check out the blockbuster film by Epique Cinema, already featured in our Video Blog! It is a visual delight you don't want to miss!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We both decided to meet up with some friends at a local social event. Mind you, we had been to several of these gatherings over the past couple of years, so we really weren’t expecting anything different. I was talking with my friends and Nirav joined in on the conversation. We got to talking and he asked to add me on Facebook. It took him 3 weeks to start a Facebook conversation with me, which was a corny pick-up line--but I like corny!

We started dating long distance when I went to California to begin my clinical psychology Ph.D. program. Being halfway across the country made it much more challenging for us, though Nirav working at Southwest Airlines definitely helped! After 3.5 years and the multiple barriers we faced (personal, cultural, you name it), we realized that we have what it takes to conquer this life together. He never gave up on me and vice-versa, so I knew that no matter what life threw at us, we would figure it out together.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Now let’s be real…the real test was the proposal. I told Nirav that I’m pretty perceptive and it would be incredibly difficult to surprise me, but my main criteria for the proposal was to be surprised (you see why this was the real test?). Nirav knew that I’m not too fond of the mushy, gushy, sappy kind of affection. Thus, his escape room proposal was perfect. We planned a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona with our friends over Labor Day weekend months in advance. Since we always do a yearly trip with our friends, Nirav thought it would be the perfect opportunity for an unsuspecting proposal. He suggested doing an escape room (knowing I would say yes – before he was hoping I would really say yes). In fact, to make it less suspicious, he even joked to me and my family a couple of times about proposing at the end of an escape room (to which I annoyingly responded that it would have been the perfect proposal and he now somehow had to top that idea). He found an escape room with the goal of heisting a diamond and worked with the owner to include mementos from the past three years as clues throughout the room. When we made it to the last clue, I opened the case and found the diamond ring. Funny enough, it still hadn't hit me that he proposed because I was thinking it was hilarious that he had joked about this happening—only to turn around and find him down on one knee. I was speechless and beyond surprised. I didn’t know if it was real—and then my sister walked into the room and it all hit me!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
My grandmother asked me to be a traditional South Indian bride, and that is exactly what I wanted. We went to Chennai, India to find a South Indian bridal saree. I had seen a picture online of a bright orange/red mixed color that I loved, so we set out to find it and eventually found the perfect saree at Kanakavalli.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The most enjoyable part of the planning process was seeing our families work together to integrate and create a spectacular event full of love. He's Gujurati and I'm Tamil, so seeing our families showcase the most important aspects of our heritage into one fun-filled weekend brought so much joy to my heart!

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I believe our guests loved seeing both the fusion of Indian culture and the heartfelt meaning behind all the details of each event. We cherish our ancestors who fought like hell to come to America to give us a better life. Our families made sure that aside from the elegance and details, we showcased our gratitude to our family and friends who are responsible for the life we have today.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Seeing my family practice for the Sangeet dance. We had members come from near and far, and we knew we couldn't keep up with the adeptness of Gujaratis, particularly on Nirav's side. However, I had a few cousins in my arsenal that managed to wrangle our family together in a short period of time and teach them multiple steps. While we looked completely disorganized compared to Nirav's family, we had the absolute best time and I will always look back and cherish that time together.

If you were inspired today, make sure to come back on Monday as we have much more for you to enjoy!

Frisco, TX Indian Wedding by Biyani Photography

It is Friday, Ladies! We've reached the end of this fabulous week, and we are here to give you the last shoot of inspiration for this week. Today, we are pleased to bring you the magical wedding festivities between Saranya & Nirav. The grand Omni Frisco was the chosen venue by our lovebirds to tie the knot! Every single moment of this magical wedding planned and organized down to the smallest detail by Electric Karma International's crew was outstanding! They delivered nothing but excellence during the nuptials. And, let's not forget the fantastic decoration crafted by Décor One by Nalini, who created such a luxurious and warm environment that surrounded every corner. Everyone was captivated by the beauty that Saranya reflected during the ceremony as she looked ravishing thanks to the fabulous saree draped and tied by JJ Drapes and, of course, the gorgeous look designed by the talent of Ms. Painted Lady. This winning combination praised Saranya's innate beauty and made everyone sigh. It was spectacular! Lucky for you, we have everything captured in a phenomenal gallery, thanks to  Biyani Photography, who did a fantastic job portraying all the beauty of this ceremony. If you need a little extra, remember that you can also relive the cinematographic delight by Epique Cinema, previously showcased in our Video Blog. You are going to love it so much!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Venue: Fillmore, Detroit, MI
Decor Theme: Royal Palace, traditional South Indian

We wanted a venue where we could implement all South Indian traditions as well accompany a large number of guests. The most important part about Fillmore is that it allowed us to decorate the the venue  without restrictions and allowed us to have our own catering. The venue itself is quite traditional and encompassed gold architecture.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
It is South Indian tradition to wear gold with red/Burgundy kanchipuriam saree for wedding ceremony. The color is to symbolize purity, prosperity, and fertility.  The saree was purchased at Kanchipuriam, Tamil nadu. For the reception, the theme color was rose pink. Bridal lengha was by Tarun Tahiliani from Bangalore, Karnataka.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The decor was the most enjoyable part. I spent countless hours into research upon designs I had envisioned. I wanted something unique and exquisite. There was a lot of detail that went into each centerpiece, mantaps, design of the cake, etc.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Ashish first expressed his feelings to me at a secluded garden on Georgia Tech's campus (where we went to college) in 2011, and he knew that same spot would be the best, most sentimental location to pop the big question. He asked my parents for their blessing, and they were overjoyed! To plan the proposal, Ashish worked closely with my brother, Rohan. As a current student at Georgia Tech, Rohan convinced me that he had an event on campus on December 16, 2017 (the day of the proposal) that he wanted the whole family to be present for. On the day of the proposal, Ashish pretended to be at work, texting me throughout the day about what a busy day he was having there. In reality, he was working with Rohan, his sister and brother-in-law to intricately decorate and set up the proposal spot with rose petals, candles, lanterns, and of course, champagne. As I arrived on campus expecting Rohan's supposed "event", I was shocked to see Ashish waiting for me instead. I immediately started crying tears of joy, and Ashish took my hand and walked me to the garden. He had hired a photographer and a violinist who played some of our favorite romantic songs. He asked me to dance as we reminisced about our past 6 and a half years together. Then, Ashish got down on one knee and proposed. It was the easiest question I ever had to answer! We joined our families for a special dinner afterwards.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Choosing a bridal lengha is a big deal - it's part of all of your pictures, videos and memories! I was fortunate to have so much help from my mom with all of our wedding planning, including my outfits. She has an amazing eye and my taste emulates hers. I had been talking to a few designers, but nothing stood out to me as "the one". I knew I wanted red with green accents, and I wanted a design that felt modern but had traditional elements. During our search, Mom came across Chamee & Palak, a boutique in Mumbai, and I worked with them through WhatsApp and over the phone to design my dream wedding lengha (as well as three other outfits for my other events), customized to my preferences and size. They were amazing to work with, and my outfits were beyond my imagination. I loved that my wedding lengha was red, had green detail, and also featured a pink ruffle at the bottom that felt like a unique, slightly playful touch. I still look back at our wedding pictures feeling so grateful to have worn the outfit of my dreams!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
I'm not going to lie - food and cake tasting were both mine and my husband's most enjoyable parts of the planning process! It was so fun bringing our families along and getting to try rich, delicious food and cake. I went on a semi-diet before the wedding, so I welcomed the excuse to indulge. Also, many components of wedding planning can be stressful, but these were not in the slightest!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
As a surprise for us during our reception, my mom planned for family members from both of our sides to perform a medley of short dances. We loved the dances they did for us, and the time they all took to choreograph and practice beforehand meant so much. However, my favorite part was when the medley ended, all of our family members formed a U-shape around the dance floor and held hands, signifying our families coming together as one. They brought Ashish and me to join in, and although marriage itself symbolizes the merger of the bride and groom's families, the gesture was so sweet. I replay this moment in my mind often.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Wedding planning is likely going to be stressful for you. If you're anything like me, you've been dreaming about your big day for as long as you can remember, and you want it to be as close to perfect as possible. A few things that helped me were:

1. Hiring a day-of coordinator, if your budget permits. We had an incredible experience with Dhara from Pure Lotus Events. She managed our wedding and reception beautifully; we didn't feel any stress on the day of our main events. She communicated with us throughout our planning process and reminded my family and I of things we would not have otherwise thought about, she managed our schedule, and most importantly, she managed our vendors on the day of our wedding. We were not planning to hire a day-of coordinator, but I am so glad we worked with Dhara. I only have delightful memories from our wedding day.

2. Involve your fiancé in the planning. My husband was involved each step of the way, from choosing our venue, to invitations, to food (this one did not take any arm-twisting), our reception flow - everything. Involving your fiancé can be challenging when you have different ideas, but ultimately, it's one of the biggest days in both of your lives. What you learn from planning a wedding together is important as you plan other important things together later in life!

3. Be open about how you feel during the wedding planning process. Speak up about what is important to you and your significant other. Know that you probably won't get everything the way you've always imagined it in your head since South Asian weddings typically tend to involve both the bride and groom's families in the planning, and distinguish the must-haves vs. the nice-to-haves. If you can be flexible on some of the nice-to-haves, you'll likely find that you are able to manage your planning-related stress more effectively.

You've been dreaming about this day for a while, so do what you need to in order to feel the bliss and love you deserve to feel on your big day. Maybe you can get a massage with one of your besties a few days beforehand, take time to relax and enjoy your spa/beauty treatments, and just find little moments on the days leading up to your wedding that you can enjoy with your fiancé, even if it's going to get your marriage license. You will probably be surrounded by friends and family on the wedding day itself, so I highly recommend cherishing the opportunities you have to take it all in with just the two of you.

Dont miss the oportunity to get more inspiration. Visit us tomorrow for more!

On this first installment, we are taking you to the Grand Hyatt Regency – The Wynfrey Hotel to witness their pre-wedding celebrations that marked the beginning of this journey! I want to highlight how the gala was beautifully designed and planned by none other than Red and Gold Events, a team who made sure to execute every detail perfectly well. She came out looking gorgeous as she relied on Gunn Glamour Hair, Makeup, & Bridal's talent for her beauty needs. Anupam couldn't take his eyes out from her. How romantic! Both families gathered to celebrate before the big day, and what best way to celebrate than with the fantastic beats from DJ Riz Entertainment, their team lighted up the sangeet and turned it into a real festival. How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
We wanted a summer outdoor wedding so I decided a bold pink/magenta would be the perfect shade to complement the occasion. I traveled to India to do my wedding shopping with my parents and sister-in-law. Unfortunately, the shade I had in mind was not in fashion in New Delhi at the time I was shopping so I had to use my imagination and take a leap of faith with the lengha I chose as it was in a light grey shade. The store showed me a fabric in the exact shade I wanted and promised they could make the dress in the color I wanted. Thankfully it worked out wonderfully and I'm glad I took the risk!

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The best part of the planning process was how it brought me closer to Anupam and my family. We all spent lots of time chatting on the phone about every little decision and everyone pitched in to help. It meant the world how invested everyone was in making sure our special day was truly unforgettable.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Our guests loved the wedding venue, Sterling Castle! It was an outdoor venue with a castle, a lake, and a beautiful reception hall. Misty and Victor, the owners of Sterling Castle, did a phenomenal job transforming the venue into a tropical paradise with beautiful flowers and pineapples flown in from all over! They also decorated the pergola overlooking the lake into a lovely mandap for us to get married under.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Start as early with the planning as you can. Book the major vendors ASAP because the good ones get booked fast, especially on a long weekend! Enjoy the process and ask for help from your family and friends. Chances are they will actually love to help with some of the decisions. Don't fight with your fiancé(e) about wedding details because it isn't worth it. What matters most is that you enjoy the celebrations and cherish the memories with your family and friends. And invest in an amazing photographer and videographer because they will help capture those memories so you can treasure them forever!

Please visit us for the beautiful second event of this celebration!
