Kicking off the start of their beautiful wedding revelry Joanna and Shawn tied the knot at the Claremont United Church of Christ on a glorious bright summer day! Before the solemnity, the brilliant team of Lin & Jirsa Photography captured the first look eye-popping photos and the gorgeous bridal party! I am swooning over the bridesmaid’s perfect saree color and the groomsmen sharp looks, but my absolute favorite is Joanna’s dramatic mermaid wedding dress that featured a sensational skirt and the blushing makeup that beauty genius Dolled up by Lulu created to enhance her natural beauty! California's leading decor firm Three Petals decorated the church pews with charming tulle and baby breath to make the bride and groom’s entry and exit the sweetest! Pakistani weddings are truly exciting and Maryam and Huzaifa’s charming nuptials were definitely not the exception! Sukoon Captured shot all the thrilling moments, starting with the beauty rituals of the beautiful bride. Maryam slipped into a mesmerizing design with delicate embellishments that created ecstatic intricate motifs. The look was flawlessly draped and tied by the beauty professional Makeup by Ana B, who also created a soft and subtle makeup that accentuated her natural beauty. The dapper groom Huzaifa made an awesome arrival riding one of the gorgeous steeds from Diana's Wedding Horses and was ready to marry the love of his life! Following the Muslim tradition, this lovely pair married in an utterly dreamy Nikkah ceremony at Najmi Masjid where a large assembly gathered to witness the plethora of rituals that sealed the union. How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met at a young people get together through our mosque in Chicago. We just met because we had a lot of mutual friends and then randomly a few months later he sent me a Facebook message telling me he had a dentist appointment...

I knew he was the one when I was having a dramatic and non-rational meltdown about losing my water bottle. And the next day I had an Amazon package of the same exact water bottle on my doorstep from him.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
It was my dental school graduation weekend and also my brother's engagement party weekend. I was already pretty upset because my brother was stealing my weekend. But Huzaifa made it all work by making me sneak out to what I thought was a graduation celebration from with just the two of us. When we arrived at this adorable restaurant I had been wanting to go to for years, our table was decorated with donuts and a plate that said marry me? I turned around and there he was down on one knee asking me the easiest question I have ever answered!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Soooo I am a huge planner. I literally thrive in planning. A lot of people told me I neeeeeded a planner. Especially because of the size of my wedding and my crazy huge family. But I really couldn’t give up control. Huzaifa and I also didn’t want to burden our parents too much with having to do a lot of planning. So even though we were living our crazy NYC lives. We managed to do a majority of our planning on our own. While Huzaifa had his wild finance world work schedule and I was trying to survive the first year of residency, practically every evening and weekend we were in full planning mode. Luckily I have a lot of friends and family that got married in the Maryland area so I was able to use their research and recommendations to formulate a list of potential vendors. Of course, doing this all remotely from New York was a challenge, but we made frequent trips to Maryland and were always connected to our vendors to make it work! Our vendors all came together amazingly... and probably sensed all of my anxiety in my frequent emails to them and were able to handle everything for us the weekend of. Huzaifa and I have a similar style and vision and our goal was really for our guests to have a good time and bring everyone we love together in one place, with that goal in mind everything else just fell into place.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
Huzaifa’s mom was integral in the planning and designing of my actual wedding lengha. I gave her very vague ideas of what I liked and she was able to work with designers in Pakistan and make a beautiful one of a kind outfit. On the other hand, my designer for my wedding reception dress and I were in constant contact. This event I had much more of a vision for my outfit. We spoke a million times and my amazing designer although new to the designing world pulled off my vision better than I could have ever imagined. I had ideas of wanting to wear an all gold gown, but I wanted a twist and my designer pulled off a beautiful unique dress. She hand drew my design and communicated with the designers and tailors in India who continually sent me videos and pictures of my outfit slowly coming to life.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
To be honest... I am an organization freak. So really I loved all the planning, of course working and reworking the table settings a bajillion times was the hardest thing ever. But honestly, I loved all of it. Having Huzaifa’s help was also a lifesaver, it taught me a lot about him and how well we work together and that truly made it much more fun

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think they loved our unique venue. The American Visionary Art Museum had some cool unique elements that normal Indian/Pakistani weddings often miss because they usually are so big they have to be in hotel ballrooms. However, we were able to find this venue that gave us the best of both worlds and gave our guests some fun art exhibits to check out along the way

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
During our actual wedding, inside our mosque during the ceremony, Huzaifa and my dad held hands as my dad gave me away. It was a beautiful moment for me when they spoke, the two most important men in my life love me so much, and I could see the mutual trust in both of their eyes and I will remember that forever

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
My decorator really made it happen. I had pretty vague views of exactly what I wanted, when I tried to explain it, it made no sense. However, I also wanted it to be perfect. I love the vintage distressed look, but I also wanted to wear all gold. Which kind of didn’t go together, and I explained to my decorator that I wanted the juxtaposition of vintage next to glittery glam. Which to the normal person probably makes no sense, but somehow my decorator and my dessert table company made that vision come to life

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Relax! Breathe! Nothing is the end of the world and feel free to ask for help. You truly can't do it yourself, and you will be surprised by how much your husband to be wants to help they just need some guidance on what they can help with

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
I was so lucky that my Mehndi artist happened to be my amazingly talented cousin who actually has her own mehndi company. I barely had to do any research for this because it was an honor for my own cousin to do my beautiful mehndi!

One big celebration and a just married couple ready to party are coming up next!

Kansas City, KS Indian Fusion Wedding by Mojica Photography

Hello ladies, Friday is here and we wanted to give you an extra dose of inspiration to stay with you through the whole weekend! Meher and Alex's fusion wedding was an exceptional display of India’s traditions with some touches of western elements that are reflected in Mojica Photography‘s beautiful imagery. To start the wedding celebrations, the lovely bride, Meher was the core of an intimate mehndi party where her hands and feet were embellished with intricate whirls and paisley by the henna artist from iDev Event Company LLC. The celebrations moved quickly to the Sheraton Hotels and Resorts - Overland Park for the grand Sangeet night that preceded the big day. The magical Lodge at Ironwoods was the perfect location for bride and groom to hold the traditional rites of exchanging rings and multicolor garlands that KP Designs and Events created for the nuptials. The lovely ceremony overlooking the woods had a romantic addition thanks to the heavenly harp music of Erin Wood Harpist and Matthew Tobin which gave a special touch to the day! See all the magic of this ceremony through the images in our full gallery!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We met at the London School of Economics. I knew he was the "the one" when he took me to see the pandas at the zoo (and was just as excited as I was).

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
At the zoo! We first started dating in DC and one of our early dates was to the zoo. We since moved to New York. Alex arranged a weekend back in DC where we went to all of our old date spots.  When we got to the zoo we reminisced about when we first met, how much fun we had sitting and talking for hours at brunches (and still do!).  When we got to a secluded part of the zoo, he popped the question. And I said YES!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Color was very important to me. I wanted bright happy colors. I also wanted to spend money only on what I cared about. We also wanted to blend all our traditions, east, and west. The Lodge was the perfect venue. We knew the minute we got there, that it was our spot. From there we worked with Kaylie at KP Events and designs to blend the red barn Kansas western look with touches reflecting my Indian roots. The theme for the ceremony was sunshine, from the colors of my dress and bouquet to the golden decor and even walking out to Here Comes the Sun. It was perfect. The reception was more traditional but mixed with a romantic summer evening theme.  The colors were jewel toned with shades of purples and magentas. The decor was candle centric to bring out the romantic vibe, and it worked out beautifully.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I had sunshine in mind from the start. I knew our wedding would be about happiness through and through and sunshine brings pure happiness to mind. For the reception, I knew I wanted jewel-toned, a perfect color for deep summer.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
The planning dates with Alex. We would set aside time over a home-cooked brunch and work through what needed to be done, sipping on tea, and loving every moment of it.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think they enjoyed the blend of cultures. Our officiant, my cousin, did a beautiful job celebrating our diversity as a couple, and a lot of our guests commented on how well he officiated for us. And the horse. Everyone always loves the horse at the baraat.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Sitting next to my hubby to be on the joola (swing) at our sangeet and looking at him knowing it was all about to begin. We had done it and done it together. I couldn't have been happier.

Seeing his goofy grin as I walked down the aisle was pretty priceless too.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
The mehendi was at my house where I grew up and we invited the groom's family for dinner. We had a beautiful tent set up outside and lights everywhere. I loved my Mehendi outfit, it was teal and orange. It was a perfect start to the festivities.

The haldee was also at my house, indoors because it rained. There was just the right level of maasti. My favorite moment was looking around and seeing all my aunts, uncles and cousins running around laughing teasing each other. There was so much love and happiness in the room. I felt so blessed.

The sangeet performances were perfect. My best friend and cousin, both named Sonia, emceed the evening. It was a mix of speeches, dances and other performances. One of the most fun moments for us during the wedding was performing a surprise dance that we had been practicing together a few weeks before. It didn't matter to us how it looked, we were so happy practicing and eventually performing for everyone together.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Enjoy every moment. Let yourself be showered in love and doted on. You deserve it.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
My bouquet was the most beautiful flower arrangement I had ever seen in my life. I couldn't stop staring at it. I had not expected that! Kaylie is an incredibly talented florist. Every floral arrangement was put together with such care. My hair flowers were incredible.

Our cake was a simple three-layered cake, two layers were marble and one was almond. We thought the marble was a nice touch - a vanilla and chocolate mix.

I absolutely love s'mores and the Sheraton did an amazing job making s'mores happen at the reception. They also took such care to ensure that the British dishes my hubby wanted were prepared to his satisfaction.

More big moments of Meher and Alex in our next feature!

Harrisburg, PA Indian Fusion Wedding by Ishan Fotografi

Ritu and Andrew’s Indian fusion reception at Sheraton Harrisburg Hershey Hotel was chock-full of bridal inspiration. We are big fans of mixing dramatic sunset hues with golden Indian accents, and Mandaps by Dhoom combined these two concepts seamlessly for the reception decor. The royal furniture and hundreds of flickering candles against pink and navy chiffon draping was a gorgeous contrast. Guests jumped for joy when Ritu and Andrew made their grand reveal. Ritu was a vision in a beautiful navy lehenga with jewel toned floral accents, delicate kundan jewelry and picture-perfect beauty details by Makeup by Chelsea, and Andrew was as dapper as could be a fitted tux. After the sweet and joyful ceremony, Ritu and Andrew were ready to get the party started at their reception soiree. The newlyweds were a breathtaking couple as they swept across the ballroom for their emotional first dance. Kudos to Bridal and Events for planning such an incredible weekend with the lovely couple. Guests had a fantastic time noshing on bites by Taj Mahal Restaurant and rocking out to music by Elite Entertainment. Check out the gallery below for more radiant photos of the festivities taken by Ishan Fotografi.
