Bloomfield, NJ Indian Fusion Wedding by House of Talent Studio

To keep the spirit of their culture alive, today’s newlyweds Jenny and Shawn changed their western wedding attires for traditional outfits before starting the propitious celebrations. Our bride Jenny shined in a deep red silk saree with golden motifs which matched the henna paisleys designs by Heena Das Beauty adorning her hands. Pedestals Floral Decorators took the reception décor to the next level with a silvery sweetheart stage framed with two splendid columns that displayed a bed of flowers at the top! The violet hues reigned during the night from the florals to the Palermo Bakery’s majestic white wedding cake decked with delicate lavender buttercream flowers and a perfect “Always and Forever” topper. In the middle of a romantic midst, Jenny and Shawn had a timeless first dance accompanied by Aldo Ryan Entertainment’s music which House of Talent Studio recorded with the rest of the fantastic moments that included a lovely dinner, the speeches, and the cake-cutting!  Get a glimpse of this cute pair special day in our full gallery!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
First time in New York...First time in Central Park...and I got proposed!!

I went to New York a few weeks ago thinking we were going to do our E-session that Friday and spend the weekend with the family. Little did I know Shawn planned a proposal in the middle of the E-session.

So after I landed in New York we headed over to Central Park later that Friday for our E-session. As we were walking around the park, I noticed Shawn was on his phone texting more than usual because when he is with me he barely uses his phone. I thought to myself “hmm I wonder what is going on?”, but I just ignored it and thought it’s probably his work or friends,(but it was our siblings who got there so early to decorate the place and trying to see how far we were from the spot, Love you guys!)

A few minutes later as we were getting closer to the spot, Shawn asked me if I needed to use the bathroom. I said no (little did I know he was trying to get me away so he can talk to the photographer, Sudeep about his plan). Since I said no, Shawn and Sudeep went to the bathroom and then a few minutes later they both came out together. I thought to myself, “Wow they waited for each other? “ After the bathroom break, we continued our shoot. We then took a quick break because we got tired of walking. As soon as Shawn and I sat down, the photographer said he will go ahead to find a good place to set up the camera and that he’ll call Shawn when he is ready. A few minutes later Sudeep called Shawn to head over. We got up and started walking over the Bow Bridge. As I was walking down the bridge, I saw candles and flowers by the boat dock to my right and I thought to myself “OMG someone is going to get proposed” and really wanted to see it but I thought we would run out of time since Sudeep is waiting for us. We continued to walk and then I noticed we were walking towards the proposal place that I noticed from the bridge and went “OH MY GOD!” That’s when it hit me. It was all for me… Words cannot express how happy I was. The place was so beautifully decorated with candles, rose petals and pictures of us and we had a whole audience screaming for us from the bridge. The funny thing is I was kind of mad at Shawn before all this. Before I came to New York I was wondering why he would set up an E-session without even proposing to me. I even tried to get him to cancel the e-session lol. But now I see it was all part of the plan and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect proposal.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
Wedding planning overall is never easy, especially for the big fat Indian weddings with multiple ceremonies on multiple days. My husband is Bengali Muslim and I am Hindu Tamilian so we decided to combine our backgrounds in every element of our wedding process. We served Rooh-Afza and Mango Lassi during our ceremonies as light refreshments - two traditional drinks of the Bengali and Chennai cultures, respectively. We also coordinated music, dress, and events that would cater to guests from both sides. Our pre-wedding events consisted of a traditional Bengali-style Haldi in Long Island and a Mehendi in Maryland. Our Nikkah, Brahmin wedding ceremony, and reception were all on the same day at Sheraton Mahwah, NJ.

Although it took a lot of time planning everything, we enjoyed making all of our selections and being creative throughout the process. My husband was very involved throughout everything and took care of so many details which made it a lot easier for me!

As far as venue, hair/make up, and décor - I've had a lot of friends get married around the New Jersey area and all of them had detailed excel spreadsheets with vendors listed. This made it a lot easier for me to narrow down my search and figure out what I wanted. The details sort of just fell into place, checklist after checklist. We had so many people helping us throughout the process so it never felt too overwhelming. My bridesmaids and maids of honor were amazing in taking care of so many things from setting up my parents' basement for my Mehendi to organizing transportation and housing for each other during our events which were in 3 different states! We also had the amazing help of our wedding coordinators (and good friends!) Mayank and Payal at Platinum Dream Events who helped every step of the way! I remember in particular one night when both of them were on the phone with us until midnight on a weekday helping us hash out details. Honestly, it takes a village to make a wedding come together and it truly was a spectacular and special experience. It made the actual day so much more worth it after all the effort.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I wore flowered jewelry and a sari from Bangladesh for the Holud, a simple colorful lehenga for the Mehendi, a maroon and gold lehenga for the Nikkah, a 6-yard and then 9-yard Kanchipuram silk sari for the Brahmin wedding, and a light teal sequin lehenga for the reception. I had my mom and my brother select my wedding saris in South India and I went to Delhi to select my Mehendi and reception lehengas and my husband's outfits. I knew that regardless of what I wore, I would feel amazing because of the people and the love in the room. The only preferences I had were a Nikkah lehenga that was deep maroon/gold and a reception lehenga that weighed nearly nothing so I can dance the night away! I was happy that I was able to find both within 1 day in Delhi with the help of my mom's best friend! I was initially hesitant about my light teal reception lehenga as this is not a very traditional color for a reception... but boy did I LOVE wearing it, especially for our first dance! I truly felt like a princess the whole day! Teal was always my favorite color but now I love it even more every time I see an outfit in that shade.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
I think our guests enjoyed the energy of our wedding, simply put. The air was just filled with exquisite joy the whole time. The messages, social media posts, emails, and phone calls after the wedding just overwhelmed us with so much love that we knew that our wedding day seeped with this feeling for everyone.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
I was carried into the room at 8:30 am by my brother and my cousin brothers on a Doli. The doors swung open. I saw a whole crowd of people that I love. And in the center of all of it was Ashif. He started crying immediately. But he was so handsome and majestic. To the side were my parents and Ashif's mom, also crying. And then I started crying. I will never forget that feeling. It gives me goosebumps right now. There was just so much love at that moment.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Brides - you are beautiful, loved, and celebrated. This is a big event and a big day for you. But spend some time during all the madness to zoom out. Take a deep breath. Close your eyes. Smile. Feel blessed and feel loved. It’s hard not to stress especially the days leading up to the wedding... trust me I know. But nothing is the end of the world. Realize that it will never be perfect but it will always be okay at the end of the day. Just have fun in the process and soak up the love on the actual day, because, girl... you deserve every bit of it!

Quickly after the charming ceremony, Harlori and Jaspreet slipped into their reception outfits to start with the party vibe! How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
We initially "met" through Shaadi.com after I made the first move and expressed interest, sending the first message in early April 2015. He lived in Dallas, Texas at the time, and I was in Phoenix, Arizona. However, we quickly moved on to phone calls, and the final weekend in May 2015, he flew out so we could meet in person. It was after that first meeting that I knew this was it.  Every moment of our time together was so much fun!  We enjoyed Napolitano style pizza, a jazz club, the local science museum, and an architectural tour of Frank Lloyd Wright's "Taliesin West." There was no awkwardness. We were on cloud nine and made a deal that we would both share the excitement with our parents.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
I was under the impression that I was going to Dallas, Texas to spend a weekend celebrating the groom's birthday with some of his closest friends. We headed to "Xcape Adventures" in Mesquite, Texas. This had become a routine celebration spot with the gang so I thought nothing of it. We had booked the Captain Skully room where we had 60 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles, and discover keys and combinations to escape. This game was no different from the others, through the first 45 minutes or so. Near the conclusion, in the final treasure chest, lay a puzzle box.  The groom's friends deliberately ignored it, allowing me to pick it up and feel victorious for a moment.  A poem was included, but I remained oblivious. I struggled to open the puzzle box, needing help from the groom. Inside laid an iPod Shuffle. I was a little thrown off by this clue that didn't seem to fit in with the others but proceeded to listen to the contents. I expected to hear Captain Skully's voice but soon realized it was the groom's. Overwhelmed by what was happening, it took me a few minutes to realize it was a song he had written, composed, and recorded just for the proposal.  He then got down on one knee, and popped the question!  Of course, I nodded yes.  And our team still got out of the room with time to spare! The occasion was made complete by a celebratory toast with dessert at his house, with his friends present.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
My mom and I had always discussed that the next time we would go to India would be for wedding shopping. I will say that deciding to do wedding shopping on a time crunch is exhausting, especially when you know you want your pieces to be fitted and ready to fly home with you within a two-week timeframe. However, my aunt and mom were very patient with me through the process, and we made sure to stick by what I wanted. Pink has always been my favorite color, and my friends know I love bright colors. I was also very particular about wanting a salwar kameez, to keep in line with a very traditional Sikh ceremony. We went through several stores within just a couple days, driving all around Delhi. But I remember looking in the mirror and finally feeling like THE bride when they draped this particular suit piece on me.  We then had the outfit stitched to my size with the help of Mrs. Ritu Mehra and her tailors at Ritu's Imagination: https://www.facebook.com/RitusImagination/

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
Many of them today cherish how simple we kept things, in particular, our decor. It was light but elegant. By avoiding decorating too heavily, they appreciated that they felt like they could focus on us as a couple. However, they also noticed and enjoyed our personal touches. At the baraat, we hired a New Orleans jazz band (Gabriel Brass Band) to lead the procession in a traditional Louisianan "second line" fashion.  My mother in law and her friends even made some amazing second line umbrellas, decorated with beads, masks, and feathers! My husband designed a "JH" logo -- our first initials -- for the handkerchiefs and chunnis at the Gurudwara, which his mother had made in India. After the ceremony, for the doli, our family had a blast "sending us off" in a rickshaw, or rather, a pedicab.  The groom's older cousin got to bicycle us around the Gurudwara parking lot for some pretty awesome pictures and video clips!

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
It was important for us to make this unique for yet another Indian wedding! With us deciding to have the events in Michigan, where I grew up and my family still lives, we decided that the welcome bags for the hotel guests would be packed with goodies made locally in the Great Lakes State (this idea was "borrowed" from my older cousin's wedding that had taken place a few years prior, also in Michigan).  We also wanted to highlight the beautiful and rich Louisiana culture that the groom grew up in. Our Sangeet was inspired by Mardi Gras, and we even had king cake balls delivered from Gambino's bakery. As above, during the baraat, the Gabriel Brass Band helped lead the procession in second-line fashion, with second line umbrellas designed by my mother-in-law and the Aunties from Louisiana. At our reception, while the theme was inspired by "under the sea" since The Little Mermaid still stands as my favorite Disney movie, we incorporated a touch of Louisiana by using a fleur-de-lis as part of our monogram for the evening.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Do what feels right, but maintain respect and honor the wishes of your parents, your future in-laws, and your husband. It can be a tough balance but try your best. After all, you wouldn't be planning this big day if it wasn't for all of them! I found that having a wedding planner is worth every cent for your sanity, and for you to be able to enjoy your weekend as much as you possibly can.  Also, finding tasks and roles for each family member/relative to help them feel more closely included should not even be an option.

Have a wonderful week, loves!

Atlanta, GA Indian Wedding by Wildcolors by Abi

There is no doubt that the beautiful union of Raashi and Akhil has made us sigh more than one time! It’s just so adorable how Wildcolors by abi brilliantly shot the simple moments of affection between these two and the cute stares into each other’s eyes that seriously warm our hearts! To celebrate their once-in-a-lifetime event, the newlyweds moved indoors of the Huntcliff River Club to have an unforgettable first dance that kicked off the wedding celebrations! For his big night, the downright dapper groom Akhil opted for a midnight blue tuxedo with black lapels and bow tie, just the right amount of glam and formality. Bride Raashi showed off her impeccable taste by choosing a full white lehenga outfit paired with an exquisitely embroidered jacket that she removed later on to have a comfier outfit to hit the dance floor. Pot Bharoon Atlanta delivered a gorgeous paisley wedding cake design with a cute cake topper of the newlyweds, it was later offered as the dessert for the tasty Indian dinner catered by culinary experts of Cafe Bombay Restaurant and Catering. What a truly memorable occasion! Peruse through our full gallery to see more of this good-looking Indian wedding party.

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
The yearly summer trips to Kisumu, Kenya were Akhil's favorite time of the year! Even though he had no clue he was about to meet the best thing that will ever happen to him on those trips (Yes, this is written by Raashi). He loved those family picnics and safaris his family and their friends went to during that time. Raashi, during those trips, was just another family friend in Akhil's eyes.

How We Met - Part Two (Fast-forward to 2014)

Fall of 2014, they reconnected at Akhil's cousin and Raashi's family friends wedding. Akhil being the bad influence he is (that's right), suggested they take tequila shots. Apparently, Akhil asked for Raashi's number later that night (Raashi cannot comment because...ahem... memory loss). Numerous texts and phone calls later, they decided it was inevitable they meet; which led to their euro-trip, Akhil moving to Atlanta, proposing and wedding festivities!

The man went all out! Fancy dinner date, helicopter ride around downtown Atlanta, and then back to my place where he had set up candles and roses all over. He then went down on one knee to pop the question!... and I said YES.

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
We wanted a very intimate wedding from the get-go! One thing we both decided on was a very naturistic venue which wasn’t very hard to find. We wanted an Indian wedding but a very western reception... and everything turned out just the way we pictured it!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
The bridal lehenga as well as my stunning reception dress was designed by the fabulous Nikhila Anchala! Check out her amazing work. She put forth such an effort and basically read my mind and knew exactly what I wanted from the moment we spoke. We worked together like magic. Her Instagram handle is @nikhila.anchala.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Finding amazing vendors to work with. From photography with “Wild colors by Abi” to lehenga planning by “Nikhila Anchala”. These amazing people bent over backwards to make it all happen for us.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
The intimacy of it, the venue and the food!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Seeing my fiancé waiting down the aisle for our first look pictures.

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
