Princeton, NJ Indian Wedding by Lightyear Studio

There are many Maharanis whose dream is to get married in the most over the top venue. Other Maharanis prefer to keep things simple but strikingly elegant for their nuptials. But there are some that decide to go big and get married in India with all the flair and color of the motherland. That was the case of Shruti & Kayur, who decided to tie the knot in the land of the Ganges and what a ceremony that was! Today, and thanks to Lightyear Studio, we are going to witness their celebration back in the US, starting with a lovely photoshoot and then a reception for the ages. The Hyatt Regency Princeton hosted both events and as you probably imagine, glam and elegance were everywhere. I am so smitten by the style of these two, especially Maharani Shruti's gorgeous sky blue and teal reception lengha. So dazzling! Want to experience something even grander? Head to our gallery of today for more!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
Met my husband when we both were still in our medical training, at the hospital, and although it isn't the most romantic place, we kept crossing paths. He asked me out on a date which turned into many and really "courted" me. I immediately knew he was the one and after that, everything fell into place!

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
He proposed to me in the most romantic and grandeur way at a prestigious library. He got my coworkers involved and everything was planned to the T. I walked into the library and was serenaded with music and his Bhangra dancing skills! He had our closest friends and family who flew from all across the country as part of the surprise as well and of course, I said yes!

Tell us how you went about planning your wedding, and your overall experience with the Venues, Hair & Makeup, Outfits, Decor Theme, and all of the other important details.
My Wedding was in Bangalore, India. Our Haldi and Sangeet were at my aunt's victorian style bungalow. I wanted everything to be a blend of both our backgrounds of the South and the North. With the help of my mom, we picked traditional South Indian flowers and focused on Lotus as my theme for the wedding and kept the colors more vibrant. My Haldi saree is close to me as it was a vintage heirloom Kanjeevaram saree of my aunt's that she wore on her wedding day. I also wore a traditional Kanjeevaram saree with lotus hand embroidery work on my wedding day along with vintage temple jewelry that remains a part of my family's collection. My mandap was set with shades of pink and purple along with a rose-petaled entrance.  We kept the reception classy as the venue in Shangri-La was beautiful to begin with. I had a rose flowered backdrop for my reception and wore a beige lehenga. My wedding was at the ITC Gardenia, Bengaluru and reception were at the Shangri-La. We decided to have another reception in New Jersey, our home town, at the Hyatt in Princeton, NJ. The theme there was to really keep everything on light pastel colors with a starry night theme. Our Decor was done by Abhishek Decorators and reception planning was done by eventsbyshrishti.

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I knew I had to wear a traditional kanjeevaram saree and my mom went to Kanchi to select the saree. The colors were traditional white with pink tones. The color was cool tones of pink and purple to reflect the Lotus flower.

What was the most enjoyable part of the planning process, and why?
Bringing both sides of the family together, especially to my hometown in Bangalore, India was a different experience.

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
That it was a destination wedding and such a colorful experience with an abundance of beautiful flowers and traditional South Indian flair.

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
Seeing my parents and my family put in so much effort during this process and having those late nights planning and organizing the event.

For events other than your ceremony, please tell us as much as you would like about the decor, style, dances, and all the special details.
The Sangeet theme was shades of green and took place at my Uncle and Aunt's home in Bangalore, the yard was adorned with lights and flowers and we had games and performances and then danced the night away, sipping on custom India drinks called "Turban Bourbon", "Shru-Tai" and "Whis-Kay". The Reception in the US was travel themed, and based on our entrance song, "Sky Full of Stars", with a starlit backdrop. We had a postcard like pictures from our wedding and travels and set them atop each gold charger plate, with an area for guests to write us a note, give some travel recommendations, or a few words of marital advice. In addition, our party favors were leather luggage tags adorned with the quote "And so the adventure begins...".

Stay for the lavish reception! We count on you!

Fairfax, VA Sikh Fusion Wedding by Photographick Studios

The final moment arrived and it was time for our couple's happily ever after! Of course, such new paths have to begin with a celebration! If there is a word to describe this reception, it would be elegance. Samantha & Vick's vision was this union between the east and west color aesthetics and the result was a grand gala that genuinely stood out. Maharani Samantha, on the other hand, absolutely stole the limelight. On her special day of magic, she looked drop-dead radiant. One of the reasons? The team from Bridal Elegance by Suman Khosla no less. They assisted with hair and makeup and as we will see in today's gallery thanks to Photographick Studios, the mastery of their work manifested in its entirety with this beauty. So, ladies, this incredible fusion gala is one not to miss! Stick around!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I was introduced to Gurvikram (Vick) through a mutual friend. We dated for 8  years before we got married. Vick was terrified of dogs growing up in India. I knew he was the one when we got our golden retriever (Bean) as an 8-week old puppy and he fell in love with her. He has been obsessed with her, and every other dog on the street, ever since.

When we lived in Philadelphia for graduate school, we used to take our dog for walks in Washington Square Park. One day he told me he was taking me for dinner and he wanted to walk through the park. As we walked through the park, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He had hired a photographer who captured the perfect photos. And of course, our friends then brought Bean to get family photos as well!

Wedding planning was crazy! We had an American wedding and Indian wedding, so it was double the fun but double the chaos. We had separate venues, hair & makeup teams, outfits, decor, everything. I mainly handled the American wedding while my amazing mother in law and sister in law handled the Indian wedding. We divided and conquered and everything eventually was completed. It was an amazing weekend thanks to everyone who helped, we couldn't have done it without them!

Was there a really special moment in your wedding that constantly replays in your mind?
The best part of the wedding was spending time with our friends and family. We all live such busy lives so it can be hard to see each other and connect. It was amazing to stand back and truly appreciate each and every person in the room and how much they mean to us. Our wedding would not have been the same without them!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
RELAX -- it will all be okay!! No one looks at your centerpieces anyway.

Anything else you want to tell us? We'd love to hear all about your other details! (jewelry, mehndi, venue, cake, bouquets, etc.)
Instead of a cake, we did a donut wall, s'mores station, and ice cream sundae bar. It was so much more fun and everyone loves a good donut!

Amazing, isn't it? More to come tomorrow, ladies!

Fairfax, VA Sikh Fusion Wedding by Photographick Studios

It is no secret that we have a thing for fusion weddings. They are always so full of mystic and charm that we just can't stop featuring them. Houston, TX Indian Wedding by SB Image Studios

The heartfelt ceremony came to an end and it was official. Meera & Prakash united their lives for eternity and an event like that had to be absolutely celebrated in big time. We have seen multiple times that this particular detail of the weddings is always as grand and colorful as anyone can imagine and this gala was no exception. The gorgeous couple came out looking absolutely stunning! Truly making the Stafford Centre vibrate! Maharani Meera's fashion choice was this beautiful and modern light cyan saree/dress that just knocked me out my feet. It perfectly matched with Raja Prakash's incredibly elegant royal blue tux! Just how it should be! One look at the venue and you could tell that Navi K. Productions planning and design work was so spot on. So, ladies, part two of this magical moment is here and you can't miss it. A loving shout out to our friends from SB Image Studios who were gracious enough to share their lense talent with us for our gallery, so let's get to it!

How did you meet your Groom and when did you know he was "the one"?
I met my Groom freshman year, at UT. We had both made the Raas team (Dirty South Dandiya). We were co-captains our senior year & that’s when things got interesting: we began dating! I’m not sure when I knew he was “the one”, but if I had to pick a moment, it’d be when he was impersonating Amitabh Bachchan from a scene in Mohabbatein.

Share the scoop on your Proposal Story!
Well, we had planned to go to navratri garba. It felt like any other weekend. I got dressed & we were “on our way”. We arrived outside of some building (I’m not from Austin, but my now-husband assured me they had changed the garba location this year)...there were peacocks in the parking lot & I could hear some faint music, but not garba music. I would later discern, it was a talented cellist playing renditions of Disney tunes. As we approached the park area outside of the building, I saw a board with pictures of us & it FINALLY occurred to me as to what was happening. We walked down a winding pathway which had more picture boards along the way, while my now husband recited poetic rhymes about us. At the end of the path he got down on one knee & popped the question, followed by a “yes!!” & brief moment of excitement mixed with panic..not knowing which hand to place the ring on!

How did you select your bridal lengha or wedding dress? Did you have a favorite color in mind?
I wanted a regal/royal look but also wanted to preserve some traditional elements. I looked for predominantly champagne colored lenghas with some pops of red. I was lucky enough to be able to fly to India to shop around & with the colors in mind, it was love at first sight. I ended up finding what I wanted in Surat (It happened to be budget friendly as well!)

What did your guests particularly love about your Wedding?
From feedback, our guests loved the overall Bollywood-esque feel of the wedding. We have some talented family and friends who put on high-quality performances from storyline dance numbers to musical performances at every event. We tried to add personalized touches as well such as photo invitations, photoshopped baraat Bollywood poster signs, bridal party baraat dances, custom wedding pamphlets, concept video, & our non-traditional first dance!

Do you have any words of wisdom for Brides-To-Be?
Hmm, my words of wisdom would be to spend money on the things you & the Groom or maybe your guest will truly enjoy & remember. Don’t think you “HAVE” to get certain things because of norms. We cut out a few “standard” items & instead went for the things that mattered to us. We did not have charger plates, a champagne toast, wedding cake or much stage decor for the reception. We did have an extensive dessert bar, fresh coconut water served in a coconut, & a canopy over our dance floor

Amazing wasn't it? Remember, ladies, more weds every day!

Houston, TX Indian Wedding by SB Image Studios

We know that you, ladies, want only the best for your inspiration and ideas. And that is exactly what we have for you today! Coming from Texas, this lovely couple decided to tie the knot in all Indian flair and glitter and our amazingly talented friends from SB Image Studios were there to capture it all for our gallery of today. The celebrations began early for our Maharani Meera. The traditional Sangeet was absolutely lovely and it gave the families a chance to mingle and get to know each other! Indian style! After that, the bride changed attires for the lavish photoshoot and I was completely blown by the tones used. This stylish pair rocked this tangerine tone of orange that was just so out there! The big moment was getting closer and the great Mirage At Lake Conroe was looking its best for the celebration, beautifully decorated by the floral wonders of Divine Decor of Dallas. So, ladies, this feature is an absolute must for all things Maharani. Shall we take a look?
